Count Snickerdoodle's Evil Lair

Archive: 7 posts

Count Snickerdoodle, one of Little Big Planet's most notorious(/only) crime lords, invites YOU to come visit his lovely evil lair! Come make your way over crumbling rooftops, dangerous dungeons and horrible hallways!

This was the first level I ever made, waaay back when the game first came out, in fact when it was still in beta if I remember correctly, and I just finished it this morning. That doesnt mean it's my longest level, or my most intricately thought out level or anything like that, but I still love it for it's silly/spooky atmosphere and for Count Snickerdoodle himself, who remains my favourite SackBoy even to this day. This level has no enemies, it's all an obstacle course to try and get to the end without falling victim to one of The Count's traps.

Checked it out this afternoon and thought it had some great stuff going on in it.

Loved your lighting in a few areas - especially the moonlit roof area - very pretty, and the erie green glowy walls. Loved the sense of humor you gave Count Snickerdoodle. Fantastic character development in just his text bubbles. Also some really nice detail work in your decoration - always a plus when I'm playing a level.

Few things I wanted to mention that I had some difficulty with. There is a rubble drop on the roof that 2 out of 3 times drops spikes right on the player as they cross the threshold of the sensor. I'd either make the sensor radius a tad larger to give the player a sporting chance at avoiding it or take out the first set of spikes. Felt like a "cheap" death when it happened. Also - I wasn't quite sure what to make of the 2nd kitchen area. I'm guessing it was too much thermometer at work so you had to pull it out but mentioning it, while a little humerous what with all the labeling of rooms talk, seemed like it was mostly out of place and confusing. I'd pull that comment out and put something else in that room... not sure what but you're witty - you'd think of something.

Over all a really fun level with a great sense of humor. I gave it 4 stars. Thanks for sharing it!

Fun level. like Morgana, i loved the humour, and a the lighting. I didn't have a problem with the roof area- it killed me the first time yes, but if you looked for it, you could see it coming. I wasn't sure if this was intended or not, but a fair amount of your spikes aren't glued down, thought i might point that out in case it was unintentional. The second Dining Room was also a little bland, but it goes with the "story" so it worked with me. All i wanted was more! It felt a little too short to me, but i guess that'll have to wait until later . Until then, i can harbour dreams of waltzing through the atrocious attic, and climbing the brutish belltower and dropping down the cruel chimbney into the devious dancehall.2009-04-26 08:32:00

Ok, finally got around to checking this out and I had quite a lot of fun.... mixed in with quite a lot of swearing. It's not that it's frustrating, just very difficult sometimes. I completed it on my first try though

Pros:
+Excellent lighting
+The count, he was quite a character and some of his speech bubbles made me laugh out loud.
+Most of the challenges were at a good difficulty
+The design of the castle/mansion
+The picture I got with him!

Cons:
-A little too difficult at times, I felt.
-When I played, the rubble on the roof only fell once. I thought this was good, but I'm not sure whether this was meant to happen.

Overall I rated it 4 stars and tagged it as "difficult" (but I didn't mean it in a negative way, because I really had fun).

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I am definatly going to make some changes to the roof, and later on down the road keep an eye out for some new rooms to be brutally murdered in!2009-04-26 18:31:00

I love the name Count Snickerdoodle so I'll check this out asap.

Ok.

Pros:

-It looks good. Has a funfair gone wrong vibe about it.
- It`s funny! Actually made me laugh out loud a couple of times.

Cons:

- At times it`s unfair. Spikes are often hidden in darkness, candles are placed at jumping height, right next to spikes so that when you try jump over the spikes you find yourself landing on the candles instead and get burned.
- The roof top is a cheap death. I was walking alond and was killed with no way to avoid it. If you are going to force a death on players I suggest using an infinite life checkpoint as it would be a terrible way to end the level. For whatever reason, I kept dying at the part before that where you jump between rooftops (my fault for being rubbish) so the rubble put me onto my last life. Had I died on a hidden spike after that i would have not been so kind at the end with my star rating!

Anyway, I liked it so gave it 4 stars and 'hilarious'.
