Survival challenge: Cyber platforms v1.3

Archive: 6 posts

Level name: Survival challenge: Cyber platforms v1.3
PSN ID: Jidery
Dis: Try to survive the cyber platforms in this exciting survival challenge! (Also my first ever survival challenge)

There are 6 different colored platforms Green, blue and red that are suspended. You start the challenge by hitting the start button, moving the gate and the button away. Each platform does a diffrent thing.

-Red: Drops little cylinders of fire, easily jumped over.
-Green: Periodically lights up and drops several bombs forcing you to be off the green, or you die instantly
-Blue: Periodically drops to the floor.

After about 30 seconds things start to get crazier.

After 30 seconds:
-2 lazer cannons are brought into the level, one on each side, shooting at sack boy with a slow travailing lazer every 5 seconds. Easily avoided by going to the middle of the level

After 1 min:
-Red platforms occationaly drop fire and electric cylinders. Causing more of a challenge.
-Blue platforms drop much faster, and stay down longer
-Green platforms should now be at full speed.

After 1 min 30 second:
-A new lazer is introduced in the middle of the level, shooting at sack boy every 1 second.

Things to do:
-Add instructions
-Add a "Start" sticker to the button

Sounds impossible lol!

I'll try it:

- Where are the in-level instructions? I'd be lost without your post! Add a speech bubble outlining what the player has to do.

- Visuals, extremely bland. Give it more of a theme; in space? In a temple? On a boat? You can keep the gameplay, but you would be better with some kind of theme.

- There is little/no variation in what happens. You could look for a randomizer switch. Ask in the help forums if you don't know how.

- Put the platforms in the front plane, you can accidentally kill yourself by jumping down. If they were in the front plane this would be impossible.

+ The gameplay was pretty good, when you got into the swing of things.

- I'd emit more bubbles at once, so you can get your multipliers going. Atm the amount of points you get is pathetic!

- Use some more sound effects! You could have buzzers, etc when bombs fall etc.

- The platforms should be touching, atm there is a sackboy sized gap between them, very annoying.

- The plasma moves a bit too fast, too often

- The blue platforms seem to fall at random, sometimes they light up and nothing happens, other times they fall straight away.

- Use a big camera zone?

- When the blue platforms fall down it's hard to jump across them, maybe make the platforms smaller.

- I'd make the fire drop from higher up, so we have more warning.

- The bombs, 2-3 would be sufficent per blasting lol! It will kill any sacks that aren't vigilent, and the let you continue, instead of being a massive barrier!

Overall, I think the 3* rating is appropriate. Tagged repetitive.

Tried it out and I have to agree with dkjestrup - without the thread I would have been totally lost as to what was going to happen. You don't need to explain all the mechanics in an intro - just some basics (Stay on the shifting platforms as long as you can while avoiding lasers, fire and bombs) for example.

I couldn't find my rhythm on it either - feels really random and nerve-wracking to me.

In terms of the look - it's pretty cool. I like the VR materials and the way you've blocked off vertical areas of color.

I've not built a survival challenge but since it's your first I'm actually really impressed. It just needs a little more tweaking I think and it will work better.

I rated it 3 stars - Thanks for sharing it!
