Idea For My Epic Zombie Saga =)

Archive: 12 posts

I've writen a story in the Artwork and Creativity thread. It's called "Hamsalad's Undead Hope." Some of you may be familiar with it, if not check it out; if you know some of the community here it should be fun for you, as it is community based. (See my sig for the story)

Well, to get to the point I have also made a couple zombie levels and I am in the process of a third (well have been forever really.) and am just picking it up again. And I got an idea to recreate my story or something close to it with levels. I think that could be pretty fun but might be tricky.

Some guy made a zombie series and it was pretty good; he had some really nice zombie cut outs eating people (if my PS3 worked I'd send you them).

I'm sure you can do much better than him but what was really good was it was cinematic, zombies reaching out the ground with their hands, zombies bashing against a cage wall to get you (this was a front on view, not from the sides).

Keyword: Cinematic

Make the zombies good then everything else is gravy.

Hmm good idea..... I like the cinematic thing. I don't really have any in mine yet. I have a pretty cool intro for it so far. But if I expand on this I can make a few levels. I think my zombies look pretty good I might want to consider revamping them but I like them. Thanks for the idea !2009-04-24 17:16:00

Oh wow please make this.

As Shermy said, good visuals are a must (my main failing). A great thing to do would be using the GLT to create some nice effects, eg, flashes for explosions.

I make pretty good visuals....I actually havn't used the GLT yet. I havn't created in a while, I'll have to experiment. I can publish what I have o fthe level so far for the people in here that want to check it out. This level is going to be smaller because I used too many materials XD ....I'll have to see where this level would fit in the storyline, I might do a prelude to where my story starts2009-04-24 17:31:00

Ah ofc now we have GLT we can pull off great effects

Have the player walk along and it start to get foggier, then fades, foggier, fades then all of a sudden you stop the player moving (drop a box on them or something, make sure they don't see it) then fullscreen fog, sound of monsters then all clears and you're surrounded!!! Just like a Bioshock moment.

You can also do stuff like have the player get bitten by a zombie and then use that lovely red tinge to show the player blacking out and make them on a timer so they have to get a cure or they die (use a gas panel to sweep the area).

wow more awesome ideas....I forgot about the fog for that...I'm totally going to mess around w/ that tonight. I'm going to add fog every time you go outside on the streets. Im deff going to have to experiment w/ that tool2009-04-24 17:56:00

Also, if you have an explosion, you can try adding flashing to the GLT for a good effect, and a dimming fog afterwards. Also important to notice, destroying a GLT mid-transition can create new fog colours, distances, and darkness-levels.2009-04-24 18:02:00

Setting will be important too. Set up plenty of areas to surprise/scare players. Unseen sounds, subtle movements, flickering lights. Half of the reasons I find some levels scary is because they set the right emotional/psychological mood for me as a player. Keep players a little off balance a little edgy - ya know - mess with their heads! Can't wait to see it.2009-04-24 19:58:00

Ooo another idea

Player gets grabbed by zombie and the screen fills with thin layer foreground claws to make it seem like they are being surrounded.

Also a development on my red tinge idea; you could use it as a 'zombie cam' so quickly flash to a very bold red with a scary sound effect to make the player feel like a zombie attack is imminent then you can play them easily, go for an obvious attack or leave them panicking then they see a friendly after a bit then *BAM* zombies!

A development on the fog, have a shadow of a zombie cast onto a wall, bring in the fog, it disappears and the shadow is gone! Then suddenly a zombie leaps at the player; could even chuck in a thin layer face as if it's coming towards the screen.

Been playing Bioshock so lots of scary ideas comming.
