Level inspired by DKJestrup!

Archive: 8 posts

DKJestrup started this thread- https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=10749
which inspired me to create a new level, with a nifty mechanic.

as you come across obstacles, you have to use tools given to you in order to finish the level. You will only be able to use each tool once, and depending on where you use the tool, you may or may not find bonus points. in some instances, if you really botch it up, you'll even have to use our "give up" which will allow you to bypass the obstacle, but you have to die or use the "give up" command in your popit, thereby lowering your score.

the tools i plan on using are: stairs, springboard, axe, anvil, jetpack, and catapult.

The easiest way i can describe it, is to compare it to "lemmings."

anyhow, let me know what you think. Production begins tomorrow, and as soon as i get a few of the obstacles and solutions worked out, i'll post up some pictures.

I like the idea, could lead to a potentially unlimited replays. It would be good if you use something that will get you say 10 points in one place, but 15 if you use it somewhere else. So it's not just used in one place to get a bonus.
I understand your thinking and it is very "Lemming"-like in the gameplay. I think only using something once could limit your options though and make it quite a short level. I think that two or three times might work out better.

So you sticker here with sticker a, and object a appears?

That would be cool. Mind if I playtest? I'll give you some ideas too if you want?

You could make the solid ground (rock), and have a layer of 1 big grid wide 1 big grid tall dissolve blocks with grab switches on them? That would be cool?

I think you shouldn't limit it too much. Make it you get less points the more you use, so you have to be strategic?

Yeah, seeing as it was my idea, I'll help out a bit if I can!

I saw a level with a similar idea, where you had thinks like a bit of floaty, a rotating motor bolt, a sponge, a dark matter etc. Parts of the wall had sticker switches on, and depending on what you used, it would spawn that item. I like your idea of one-use items, and variable points depending on which one you use, though. How could you do it so you only get to use it once?2009-04-26 15:01:00

I'd let them use each item 3 times, but points for those who use them less.2009-04-26 20:41:00

wow! i walk away for a day, and BAM! some great feedback. DK, once i get the level playable, i'll send you a key to playtest it.

3 times eh? could make for a longer level... if anyone wants to see about another game that i was thinking about with this, its a game called "grow" and "growrpg" (the rpg one makes more sense) it's free, just google it.

anyway, after a bit of buildtime, i'll have to axe the axe, and come up with something different... the axe only works in a few ways... but i got all the others built

well it sounds like a lot of fun... and a lot of complex logic =/ i'd love to test it when you've got it running

Do you already have the way the "emitting" system will work? because if you don't i think i have a few ideas on how you could get it to work, and could whip up some pictures (so i dont have to type it all lol)
