(1 player only.) How far can you throw your jetpack? Earn more points the farther you fling it! Compete for the high score!

76-99Kw8rAw

You get three tries per game, and after the third toss, your scores for all 3 are added up.

Tell me how well you do. It's hard the first few times, but if you play it repeatedly you'll get better.

TIPS:
If you're having trouble spinning the jetpack, try rotating the opposite direction. I have less trouble spinning counter-clockwise.

You can spin it faster if you hold X.

To get the best distance, fly up as high as you can, and throw it just a little bit above the horizontal.

UPDATED - Version 1.10:
-Changed scoreboard so the player now waits in a somewhat interesting scene while points are calculated rather than having to fly a long way up to stall for time
-Added music

I have to say this is a fun and kind of addictive score challenge. So far my furthest is 43 (i love the DONT PANIC! sign and the subsequent cultural reference- theres a reason for the 42 in my name ;p) and a total score of 4650 (3rd, woot! XD). You're right though, with practice you improve (my early shots were all low 20s- now they're mostly low 30s). Ive seriously played this 10 times already, and i'm playing again already lol (i keep having to change the scores i'm typing as i beat them). Personally, i reccomend throwing it "underhanded" (counterclockwise) as the resulting jetpack is angled slightly up as opposed to the slightly down for overhanded. I also reccomend shooting a little lower than above the horizon, as if its too high, it loses a TON of momentum when it slams into the glass run. Your tutorial jetpack was cute BTW

One thing i'd reccomend fixing is that you can still swing it straight down (whoops lol) and when you do that, i wasn't sure if that counted or not. You might want to make a zero sticker for that area if thats the case.

5 stars and hearted, now brb getting hi score, kthxbai

I really like this game. It's fun and addicting, and very unique!

I wish you could actually have the music from FFX though. It really added to it in the video.

I was wondering. What settings do you have on the grab-able sponge to make it act like that? And how do you make the player automatically get the points?

All in all, this is a very well polished level. My only suggestion would be to color the pink floaties in the end...

lopl, i love doing that whenever i have a jetpack on (spinning it and tossing it)
Seems like a good concept for a minigame, i'll definetly have to check this level latter.

i had to play this just to see what background you used
i seriously didn't recognise it at all xD

i never knew the wedding theme had that weird ledge at the beginning

the minigame is really good too, but i can't really think of much to day about that ^^
it's really fun though

So far my furthest is 43 ... I also reccomend shooting a little lower than above the horizon, as if its too high, it loses a TON of momentum when it slams into the glass run.

If you insist! I've hit the maximum distance (55) a few times with my method though! The friction on the glass and air resistance are what slows down the jetpack so ideally you want to minimize the friction with the glass by flying up high and throwing very slightly up.

One thing i'd reccomend fixing is that you can still swing it straight down (whoops lol) and when you do that, i wasn't sure if that counted or not. You might want to make a zero sticker for that area if thats the case.

If you throw the jetpack down or backwards so it lands in the area where you start, you can pick it up again and throw it again until it goes past the horrible gas border. Only the maximum horizontal distance counts (so if it were somehow to land at 42 and go backward, it would count for 42).

I wish you could actually have the music from FFX though.

There is a copyable Zanarkand music level floating around, but I'm not a big enough fan of the song to bother adding it to my level.

I was wondering. What settings do you have on the grab-able sponge to make it act like that?

I used one of Shiwayari's "state switches" (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5159). (the one that has two pistons pushing a block of glass in the middle)

I set both pistons to flipper motion (out) and hooked the grab switch (one shot) up to the left piston. Then I put a magnetic key switch on the elevator (one shot) and hooked it up to the right piston and added matching keys at the top and bottom of the elevator. Then I set one of the magnetic keys on the switch to on/off and hooked it up to the piston on the elevator.

This way it basically has two "states," moving and stopped. The elevator at the end of the level works the same way, only it doesn't have a key at the top to cause it to stop, so it goes up and back down.

I did it this way so I could get the smooth acceleration of an on/off piston. In theory you could do something like this with multiple pistons in series to make a multi-floor elevator that accelerated smoothly.

And how do you make the player automatically get the points?

When a brain is killed, it gives the player 50 points with no multiplier. (a multiplier accumulates but doesn't apply to those points.) If you hook up a magnetic key switch set to one-shot to a brain, that kills the brain. So, I just stuck a switch with its radius set to nothing, reversed, set to one shot, onto the brain, captured that, and emitted it once per 1 unit of distance the jetpack was thrown, per throw.

There's a point-giving mechanism along the whole top of the level that you can catch a glimpse of if you throw the jetpack almost straight up fast enough. I'll show it if people request it.

i never knew the wedding theme had that weird ledge at the beginning
That ledge isn't normally solid, Sackboy falls right through it, so I added some dark matter inside it. Parts of the background enter the foreground in at least 5 places in that theme.

I liked this. It`s a good idea and I`m a fan of minigames in LBP.

2 minor things that came to mind when playing were:

1) It could do with music. I`m all for going with silent when the occasion calls for it, but this is a minigame, not a 'thriller' or anything. Some nice upbeat music would goa treat.

2) Does there need to be that long fly up to the scoreboard? It`s possible that the lack of music accentuates this, but it`s just an empty space, with floaty bits in to make it semi interesting. Could you lower it down a bit? It just means you leave the level on a kind of downer after what was a very entertaining experience up to that point.

I was thinking about that, I just forgot to add music because if I'm creating a level and I add music right away I get sick of it by the time I'm done with it. I may add a music randomizer so that it doesn't get annoying on repeat plays.

I did that to make sure that people got all their points. It takes something like 20-30 seconds for you to get all your points after pressing the button and if you reach the scoreboard before it finishes spawning all the brains, you get ripped off for part of your points! If anyone can think of a better solution I'd like to hear it.

THAT'S AWESOME... and so is your level!

^even better is that I can almost fully play that song from FFX!

Honestly, if you could pull it off, some custom music for this level would be awesome. Maybe not FFX music, but whatever you want. I'm just getting so tired of hearing all the same songs. Even if you randomized it, I've still heard them all about 3 million times

if the gap at the end is there out necessity then it's no big deal. it does still feel a little flat mind you. maybe just put some decorations, or screw about with the global lighting to make it more visually interesting.

have players fly past some photos of your scoring mechanism maybe.

Just had to drag myself away from this delightful game... Just wish you could set up controls so you could let go of a button to let of of the jetpack, for example.

Very addictive, and very fun. Thumbs up, 5 stars, a heart and imaginary peanuts from me.

Very clever level! I tried it out and it was so fun I played for 10 minutes. I had a blast with this, and I'll be back for more. You use great mechanics, and they worked flawlessly for me.
I would recommend this level to anyone. Great work!!!

Just tried it today and it's fun! Really unique concept too. It was funny when I saw what to do on the level because Silverleon does that with his jetpacks all the time when we playtest! Funny to see it on a level though.

Loved the Hitchikkers reference! (Big fan - we have a social group here but don't do much other than mention the social group. lol)

I was in the level with 3 other players and it did get a bit crowded. Might be fun if it fit to make multiple "lanes" for multiplayers to go head to head. Not sure if that's feasible but it would be fun!

Gave it 4 stars - thanks for sharing it!

I loved it! Really nicely put together, the tutorial was excellent, not too long, very informative. Though as said before that flight up to the scoreboard is a bit long and kinda pointless.

Otherwise, excellent! 4 stars!

Since enough people complained about the long flight, I will change it so it just gives a message not to reach the scoreboard until the score stops increasing, or make it automatically release the scoreboard if possible.

I tried adding a random music selector but it broke the level since my thermometer is close to maxed out (the scoring mechanism breaks when the level overheats). So, I'll just have to select one song, sadly. I wish Mm would give us the song from the new tutorial levels!

I'd love to make the level multiplayer-capable (or make a multiplayer version) as Morgana25 suggested, but the level is totally maxed out, so unless I made a drastic reinvention of the scoring system (feasible but annoying, this one took a long time to devise) it wouldn't be possible.

Thanks for the feedback!
