About Cool Levels

Archive: 32 posts

LittleBigPlanet has it's own Cool Levels page. It's great for bouncing around different levels aimlessly - there's usually at least one new gem that you haven't seen before. However, it's also usually surrounded by a lot of "unCool" levels (such as Ramp) and it's difficult to discern between good and bad levels until you actually start playing.

LBPCentral has a Cool Levels page as well, but you won't be sifting through bad levels to find something fun to play. If you're looking for a level that's guaranteed to be innovative and interesting, you'll find it on our Cool Levels page. How does it work? When a Level Showcase thread reaches 20 replies or more, it will be automatically promoted to "Cool" status and moved to this forum. That means that nearly every high-quality level will be promoted to Cool status eventually.

But wait! What if someone's level isn't very good, but people leave feedback in an attempt to help? If it reaches 20 replies, does that mean it's a "Cool" level even if it wasn't very good? In our eyes, yes. In order for any level to reach 20 replies, it's Creator must be making changes based on feedback. If a Creator is not doing so, our members won't post feedback - what's the point if the Creator isn't going to take it into account? Due to that, if a Creator is willing to improve based on our suggestions, then his/her level is Cool, regardless of the initial quality.

Nice job on the update. (Ramp is a fantastic level)

You might want to change it to his/her level is cool. Contrary to popular belief, there are girls on the internet.

I know - I was actually changing that when your post appeared. I tend to edit threads constantly, even after I've posted them. I must reread and revise at least 10 times before I'm satisfied.

Or change it to "her/his" just to make the female creators feel special (remember: Ladies first!) .2009-04-24 01:22:00

But mods and admins will still be able to moderate the Cool Levels forum no matter what happens. 2009-04-25 19:00:00

Ramp? Bad? What are you guys talking about? It isn't bad, it's a heroic failure.

I like the new set up, by the way. Allows other levels to be noticed as well without being drowned by popular threads.

Well, that was long enough ago that nobody knew better. Now the general consensus is "if the level is bad and the Creator isn't responding positively to feedback, don't post".

So can anyone just post a level in the "cool pages" and call it a day?
I see the "new thread" button there, so can it happened?

I don't do it cause I want to earn it with my level "The Descent" (shameless advertising)

Click the "New Thread" button, it will tell you you aren't allowed to make a new thread in here. When your level gets 20 replies in the level showcase, it automatically gets bumped up into this sub-forum.

don't worry, Javi. Decent is GREAT and will be making the cool page before you know it. I don't see how it can miss.

I ended up here because I was worried my f4f had been eaten up by the net-monster, or somthing, when it was no longer in the showcase page. Turns out, it's safe and sound right here (whoof!).

Im having a hard time getting people to play my most recent level: King of Bounce. 22 plays in 2-3 weeks is not cool. :/

I would direct you to this thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=10692).

I had a quick look at your other posts and they`ve either been in your own threads or in a general chat thread.

This means you`re an unknown entity (ooh mysterious!) around here. You`re not likely to get loads of feedback if people don`t know if they`ll get it back or not.

Play other levels, give feedback and you`ll get plays and opinions soon enough.

Who is this Ramp character and why does everyone hate him so?

P.S - I really hope my level can make it to the cool level status!

Ramp is not a character, it`s a ramp! Just a level made in the beta that became the most played level in LBP and all it consisted of was a ramp and a skateboard.

'Cool levels' is a bit of a mis-nomer on these boards really. Your level will move from the regular section of the showcase to the cool levels once you get 20 replies in your thread. It has nothing to do with if your level is cool or not. The name just comes from LBP.

Question - Currently, my signature has a link to my level thread. If my level is moved to the cool levels page, does that mean my links will become dead? What I mean to say is, does the URL of a created level thread change once it is moved?2009-08-13 20:23:00

No it doesn't.

The reason being that the thread url is based on the order of the threads being made, so the first post ever made at the forum will be number 1 no matter which forum it is... though the LBP giveaway is gone forever, I think, so no thread 1 <_>

So yeah, basically, it is the same URL no matter which forum it is moved to.

Okay, sweet. I thought that numbers had something to do with all of that but I didn't know for sure.

Thanks for the help!

I guess its just me.. but I don't think ramp is bad at all!

I think we have to appreciate levels by the time they were posted. When I first played LBP, one of the first community levels that I played was Ramp. I remember that I had lots of fun in that level. Obviously now in retrospect the level isn't up to par to the current levels. But I remember that at that time, every one was making simple levels with yellow hanging sponges and called them detailed. Ramp stood out and that's why it got played so much.
The same thing happened when I played "Dead Space" for the first time. I was in complete shock and couldn't begin to understand how DarknessBear had made that level. But now, it's not as impressive. I mean, it's still excellent but not jaw-dropping like the first time.
These are levels that break the mold and then people get "inspired" by them and make something better. As time goes by, levels are getting more and more complex and detailed. So I don't think you should be so hard on Ramp. I can't wait for the next jaw-dropper!

Well, that's just my opinion..

Pleas excuse me if this is a dumb question but...

What if somebody posts a reply to their own thread just to tell somebody they finished something?

You said that if it has 20 replies then it gets added to cool pages does it include the reply of the creator.

Grrrrr!! I thought it was after 450-500 views!! Noooo...
Hmmm there is sometimes a lot of "bad" replies on some levels.

So basically a "cool level" could have 20 "This level sucks!" comments and now its cool! XD
Or could just have a random chain conversation that deviates from the level itself.

man.. I'm just mad about the views thing..

It looks like PSN isn't going to be up for at least a couple more days, so try not to get too restless. Surely downtime has made creators concentrate on their levels OFFLINE, with no n00bs or online connection issues. Long story short, as soon as PSN is back up pretty much everyone is going to publish their level straight away, this will cause the 'cool pages' to actually be cool for a couple of days, maybe a week.

My advice to you would be to wait about a week, then publish your level, this will cause it to be very popular, as all the 'cool levels' will have been overplayed by everyone.

If PSN isn't back up in a couple of days or whatever, don't cry about it, just keep calm and carry on.
