Kikaiwa: The Cluster[Pics, Trailer, Poll, Spotlighted and all that stuff...]
Archive: 52 posts
*Big sigh* I finally made it. After a month of work i finished this logics beast.:arg: But now for the level. "Kikaiwa: The Cluster" is basically a collection of four bosses. But not the normal "jump-over-some-plattforms-to-reach-a-brain-bosses". Every boss has a special concept making it very unique and you can choose the order in which you take them down. But now for the bosses in the order i made them: Quake: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/3685/medium/1_Quake.jpg This boss uses his electrified "hammer" to make the earth tremble. The spreading wave shoots you high in the air. At first this is not a serious danger until the gasified barriers come into play... Fishmoth: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/3685/medium/1_Fishmoth.jpg Weird name? Yes indeed! But this boss somehow remindet me of a silverfish and "Fishmoth" is just another name for these cute little bugs The boss however pops out of two holes(totally random!) and attacks you with bombs or plasma balls. While you attack it with the paintinator its attacks become more aggressive and the few bombs it spits at the beginning become a devasting flood of bombs! Carbon: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/3685/medium/1_Carbon.jpg (yeah the picture is... deformed) This tank avoids and follows you. The artillerie montated on its back brings you death from above. The armor is so thick that nothing can get through it. So how the hell do you defeat it? Blind Turret: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/3685/medium/1_Blind_Turret.jpg This boss is likely the most unique of all four. You neither shoot nor walk around. You just... sticker! Kept in a relatively slow vehicle which you move by stickering its ends, you fight this huge turret with enormous fire power. Sounds harder then it is since the turret is blind. But you should avoid the spinning sensor since it shoots straight away when it notices something moving out there... If that's not enough to convince you to play this level then watch this trailer i made: YouTube - Kikaiwa: The Cluster I still want to remind everyone that i share my possibility to capture videos from the PS3. So don't be to shy to request (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=9552) a video for your level. That's it folks. After i finished this now i'm gonna concentrate on my logics tutorial series (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=8833). I added a poll about this. I'm thankfull for every usefull feedback. This logics are very stubborn and often go gaga while lag. So if you expirience any strange incident please let me know so that i can perhaps fix it. EDIT: Oh i almost forgot to thank the people who helped me testing and improving this level. These are: ThommyTheThird, Yarbone, Snowspot, Ccubbage, Zwollie, Fjonan and Feloneouscat. THX to you all | 2009-04-23 23:54:00 Author: Vanemiera Posts: 329 |
Oh my dear God those were amazing, I'll be playing this soon. I'll leave my feedback. | 2009-04-24 00:36:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |
Those are some very very impresiive looking bosses. The Fishmoth one looks like one of the creatures from Flow. I'll have to give this a try next time I'm on. | 2009-04-24 00:37:00 Author: Sosaku Posts: 146 |
Looks great. Not gonna watch the video yet though. | 2009-04-24 00:38:00 Author: moleynator Posts: 2914 |
... wow :O ... Yeah gonna try this... You're REALLY good at enemies ... Now you just need to make some for our project MUHAHAHAHA... well bosses I mean... | 2009-04-24 00:39:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |
Okay, now that the "gonna play it" people have spoken, here's one that HAS played it... WOOHOOO! GREAT JOB! Figuring out how to clear each section was the hardest part - but this level has some fantastic gameplay and some great puzzles - AND some great use of stickers. I have one small suggestion that might frustrate players - the boss where the cart with the button zooms towards the boss - the camera angle here makes it difficult to judge jumping onto the button. Maybe panning a bit in the other direction would help. But that's a VERY minor suggestion. Loved it - 5 stars and a heart. | 2009-04-24 00:52:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
Oh, was there a button I was supposed to press on the tank? Yeah, couldn't see it. also died on Fishmoth and the wall wouldn't open... So yeah, didn't finish it. but I didn't need to to know that this was completely awesome =D | 2009-04-24 01:05:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |
How do you destroy the sticker dude? I don't get it... | 2009-04-24 01:06:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |
While avoiding the guns by stickering your vehicle forward, the thing spinning around the circle keeps opening those doohickies and you need to sticker the red dot areas to close them until you kill the boss. I have NO idea how to explain what the real names of the doohickies and thingamajigs are. | 2009-04-24 01:09:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
Holy crap... that was amazing! You put, beautiful detail, with some epic fights, and amazingly original bosses. I have got to say that those were probably the BEST bosses I have ever versed. As I said above, the detail you put into the level was amazing, and looked beautiful! The whole area looked amazing, and so did the bosses! I loved your little Eye on a Gear thingy, that made it seem much more organized. Each of the bosses little icons looked really cool, and showed what the boss was like before you got to it, without showing the actual boss! Outstanding! I LOVED how you didn't just have straight boss rushing, you actually had some awesome little games to play as you make your way towards the boss. My favorite one was probably the sticker vehicle! Your ideas were REALLY original, and I mean it! I have never seen anything were you use stickers to move a car and shoot a boss, (Aside for the MGS pack first level.) and the Quake boss was amazing! (Must have taken you a lot of gadgets to make him work!) The boss Carbon was pretty amazing, and slightly easy at the same time. It took the car to pass me once for me to figure out how to defeat it, then I was a ninja! The fish boss was probably the hardest, but it was still amazingly fun, with awesome paintanator action! The ONLY thing I think the level should get is an Infinite Life checkpoint, which would easily bring your hearts and plays up. It would also be less stressful for those you get stressed because they only have one life left. Overall, an amazing level with brilliantly original bosses, that really show what you can make with LBP. Would have given you more, but, 5 stars and a heart!!! I shall go play your other Kikaiwa levels for sure! | 2009-04-24 01:09:00 Author: Kog Posts: 2358 |

I did it for a while and it finally died. Maybe a big suggestion - have some kind of meter mechanism to tell how hurt the boss is. | 2009-04-24 01:20:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
Yeah I was about to ask if you could put in a health bar or something. | 2009-04-24 01:27:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |

cool man! You finally finished it I'll play it again sometime.... and get a record.. or something >_< | 2009-04-24 05:49:00 Author: Yarbone Posts: 3036 |
I have one small suggestion that might frustrate players - the boss where the cart with the button zooms towards the boss - the camera angle here makes it difficult to judge jumping onto the button. Maybe panning a bit in the other direction would help. Yeah this also gave me some problems. But at his point i had the choice if i keep the better camera sight for the bombs or the reload cars. Since the boss is pretty easy once you know how to hurt it(you can make one great combo stoping it from shooting again). So i decided to keep the angle this way. The ONLY thing I think the level should get is an Infinite Life checkpoint, which would easily bring your hearts and plays up. It would also be less stressful for those you get stressed because they only have one life left. The infinite life checkpoint has the potential for ruining any challenge in LBP. I think that the most important part of a game is that you can actually fail and learn for the future. Also, what's the point of bosses you can't lose? I mangaed to increase the difficulty slowly to give the player the time to find the weakpoints. That would be all bollocks if the player can't loose anyway. Yeah, I was doing that for days, it should tell you that your hurting him, even though it does make a weird noise. I did it for a while and it finally died. Maybe a big suggestion - have some kind of meter mechanism to tell how hurt the boss is. I see your point guys. But i'm also wondering if i can make the damage indicator more obvious. It blinks and makes a painfull noise.(the painfull noise EVERY boss makes). So you should know that you are doing right. To the healthbar... where should it put this? Also i think you two have noticed that the sensor is deployed only if the player has already damaged it two times. So that should be enough to get the trick. Thank you for all your feedback. Makes me feel like all the work was finally worth it. | 2009-04-24 08:14:00 Author: Vanemiera Posts: 329 |

Makes me feel like all the work was finally worth it. Well true, but what if you go to that boss first? THat's what I did and I had no idea if I was hurting it, or if I was just maybe changing the direction of the sensor. Really had no idea, maybe what you can do is have it so the health bar is right above his brain? Or if you don't want to go with a health bar, you can have it so you tell the person before he gets on the very first cart something like " All red areas must be stickered in order to complete your objective" Something subtle that informs the player on what to do. As for the tank, I don't find it a problem anymore, after you get the timing and hang of it, it's actually VERy easy, as for the cannons you can honestly look up and tell if they're going to go far or land near him. So yeah, 5 stars and hearted both the level and you. Good job. | 2009-04-24 08:26:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |

Aww, couldn't finish the level since my car broke down After beating the sticker boss one of my wheels snapped, and.. i couldn't return | 2009-04-24 15:45:00 Author: ThommyTheThird Posts: 440 |
I don't have much time at the moment, but I played this level yesterday and just had to at least say how great I thought it was. - I didn't run into any problems in the level and there were so many things that I had never seen done before that worked so well. The sticker section was probably the most unique/different from anything else I had played and I really liked how you set it up with having to open up the door with a sticker and slowly letting you know/ getting you used to the fact that you are going to be stickering in that section instead of the usual platforming. - There was just a lot that I liked, just about everything really, but as I said ... not much time at the moment. But it's easily one of my favorite levels I have played on LBP thus far. I was also surprised that I was only the second person to finish the level yesterday when there were twenty some plays because it didn't seem overly difficult to me but it also looks like some people ran into other problems which prevented them from finishing the level. Anyway, really impressive work on this level with some really complex stuff going on for your bosses. Loved it 5 stars/Heart. | 2009-04-24 19:24:00 Author: Coreymill Posts: 85 |
Aww, couldn't finish the level since my car broke down After beating the sticker boss one of my wheels snapped, and.. i couldn't return Yeah i had this once too. But i managed to get back and thanks to the alternative path i was able to get up again. I tried to prevent this by placing invisible dark matter but i fear that this could result in other weird bugs or just blocking the vital parts. | 2009-04-24 21:42:00 Author: Vanemiera Posts: 329 |
Ah well no problem. But that was my best run :O I beat the other 3 bosses in record time... Now that i finished the level i had a teribble run.. I took way too long with Carbon, and i wasted atleast a minute trying to bounce on the platforms (To get from Quake back to the beginning).. mnaged to get a nubby score of 130k... | 2009-04-25 13:17:00 Author: ThommyTheThird Posts: 440 |

Aha! I finally finished this last night, umm one problem, seems as though you made Blind Turret way too easy, he didn't shoot at me once... Like literally, he didn't even shoot, even when the sensor went across me, nothing happened. Lol, don't know what happened, but your new edit must of caused something, or I'm just tooo fast for the sensor lol. Anyways, favorite boss has got to be Quake, that thing is pure awesome. Followed by Fishmoth, then Blind Turret, then the armor dude, that guy is amazingly difficult. | 2009-04-26 21:12:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |
Blargblargblarg... I seriously have to play this! I loved your infinite environment train level, and plus I seriously owe you for the filming! Will give you feeback when I can. | 2009-04-27 00:34:00 Author: Pitcard Posts: 779 |
You think you can beat the creator? Bwahaha! >: D No seriously let's have a fiery contest who can hold the highes score:hero: - I had like 120K my first time through the level, but played it for the second time a little bit ago and got 150something K. So someone go ahead and beat my high score so I have something new to beat, that score should be pretty easy to beat. | 2009-04-27 08:58:00 Author: Coreymill Posts: 85 |

LOL - you have totally kicked my butt with this one. I'm going to have to try and finish this a few times before I can get through. It's really interesting though. | 2009-04-28 19:59:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Hmmmm... I'm gonna have to play this a few times, so I might as well get a decent score ... I'm fairly crap at speedrunning though ^^ I always like to take as much time as possible to admire the scenery. First I'd like to say this is a masterfully designed level, with some really beautiful gameplay. There's a lot of thought put into each boss mechanic and they're all unique. The best bosses I've seen in lbp so far, although I don't really go searching for boss levels. You've put the mgs materials to great use, its got a pretty cool style especially the vanemiera trademark eyeball-cog! A couple of issues maybe you could fix: -I think it'd be nice if Fishmoth showed some sign of taking damage. Maybe you could have a life gauge. Or even better, have this segments brake off and expload when you've shot them up enough. Its probably a lot of hassle to go back and design this, but I think it'd work really well, so its up to you. Its not much of a problem as it is, I just found it a pretty lengthy boss fight, and there wasn't much indication if I was actually doing him damage or not. -The ball catching mini-game before the Carbon bossfight was really cool. But at first I thought you had to keep passing the balls back and forth to open the door, maybe this is just me being an idiot. Maybe you could trigger a camera that shows that the door has opened. -On the jumping obstacles before Quake, you can get crushed just by running straight into the jump pads. I think its alright to leave it this way though, its obvious how to use them after you've died once. -I wasn't really sure how to use the sticker car. You just sticker the direction you want as fast as you can right? And I also wasn't sure what way the boss was able to sense you. As Whaaale said, when you pass its sensor, you sometimes won't get shot at at all, but sometimes it just pwn's you straight away. Thats about it for now, all just little tweaks, nothing drastic Your level as it is, is absolutely beautiful and deserves attention! You are one of the most technically imaginative creators around dude My favourite bosses were Quake and Carbon, I loved the ammo car that detonates. Very classic boss fight. Oh... one thing I've been meaning to find out: Where or how do you get those VR Training materials??? I have the mgs pack, and have unlocked most of the stuff in it, but never really felt I needed those materials... just wondering if you need to unlock them or are they already in your popit? | 2009-04-28 20:26:00 Author: Pitcard Posts: 779 |
Hmm.. managed to score 151k, but i messed up carbon.. And i need loads of practice with Sticky I just can't do it right.. I die atleast twice the fight, which somehow Zooms in the camera, and making you unable to see those hit-spots that are far away... :S I'll pwn you someday Van, someday.. | 2009-04-28 20:46:00 Author: ThommyTheThird Posts: 440 |
Thanks for the feedback Pitcard. I'm going to add a soundeffect at Carbon's puzzle. Hehe. I'm happy that i gave you something to bite for a long time Thommy But i saw that you broke my record on Sponge Dynamo. Unacceptable! | 2009-04-28 20:58:00 Author: Vanemiera Posts: 329 |
Heh, that score is there for a looong time Van I think it's about a month ago that i set that score Btw, you know what's unacceptable? My score on Jaeyden's TyeDye His record is 128k, i got 146k XD | 2009-04-28 21:16:00 Author: ThommyTheThird Posts: 440 |
Wow! These are definitely some of the most unique bosses I've seen anyone create in Little Big Planet! The way each one has it's own unique challenge leading up to the battle is awesome as well. I can't even begin to imagine what is going on behind the scenes for the bosses and their attack patterns, well I can imagine, but I can't imagine being able to sort it all out! My personally favorites were Fishmoth and Carbon. I just loved the attack patterns of both and the method to defeat Carbon was very cool, although I always died after hitting the button, so I didn't get to see the effect, but with some practice, maybe I can get out of there on time. While I enjoyed Quake's attacks, I found him to be a tad frustrating, but he looked amazing. Blind Turret was a great concept and for the most part worked very well. The only issue I had was that after death, you have to access the sticker tool again, which is just a bit slow (not your fault of course) and when he's almost beat, his sensor moves faster and faster, meaning you have less and less time to get a sticker back out. Just a tad frustrating, but like I said, great concept and it looked fantastic. Overall it was a great challenge and while I didn't beat them all in one go, I'll be back to conquer them! They're all just so cool! Outstanding job! | 2009-04-28 21:43:00 Author: mrsupercomputer Posts: 1335 |
Bwahaha! I just achieved a score of 158.871. Top that Let's see who can beat me Bah! I tried again but only made it to 156,411 For whatever reason Fishmoth just sat under in the water for like 10-20 seconds a couple times without coming out and it really slowed me down >_< I shall have to try again later for the high score. | 2009-04-28 22:21:00 Author: Coreymill Posts: 85 |
Time for my review :kz: I know you already heard a lot of my impression of the level but I want to post it anyway, so you have to review my level. First of the visual style is really amazingly well made. It fits the neon sci-fi theme and sometimes broken up by your stickers, I like that. You worked a lot of good ideas there and concentrated on your bosses. Nothing too fancy, the details are absolutely right for what you wanted. Spot on. The bosses are all very well made and challenge the player for a unique way of fighting them so I will take them on one by one: Fishmoth: Since I know how he was when I first saw him, you made the best out of it! I was not just standing around for hours on end (slightly exaggerated) but hat to be careful and keep my eyes peeled, you made the randomizer really well there. The only thing I am missing, is some kind of health bar since the bar on the fish itself is barely visible, but it would just be a convenience and does not change the way I think about this boss, really well done! The elevator up and down with the two different "mini games" are a lot better than what I saw the first time around. You make it just right to give the player different things when walking the same path twice. Earthquake: This boss is just amazing. The idea is unique and really great realized, it looks absolutely nice but once you figure out how he works he is almost too easy since you force the player to move to the left only in the last round. Up until then you can always stand on the very right, get flipped up and grab the lever immideately, took me only a few seconds to beat him. So my hardcore suggestion would be to force the player to switch sides by either force him to use the other lever on the enemy once one is used (so that they reset only when both are down) and/or spawn the gas plates the way, that the player cannot win by standing on the very right all the time. Blind Turret: The idea was much appriciated but ... I did not die a single time. The slow moving ... thingy that was "chasing" me never even got close since I was driving behind it. Except for the occasional explosions once in a while this was the weakes boss in case of visuals, pacing and difficulty. Don't get me wrong, I still like him and it is a far better boss than most of what I have seen but still the weakest of four great ones. I don't know what I did wrong (or right in this matter) but also ... it could use some kind of more challanging behavior and/or some more action on the visual side. Tankthingy: This one is another brilliant idea and in comparison to the others was not too easy. It was ok, maybe a little frustrating since it is unpredictable where he is going to shoot. The camera angle is a bit too tough and makes half the difficulty present which is kind of "cheap" since I do not like the feeling of being bad despite being precise because of the level designer not wanting me to SEE what I am doing. What you could do against it, would be changing the checkers on floor and wall to change color (like one row black, one row white, black, white etc.) so that i can see "Ah, i am standing on the white line, the cart is 2 checkers away from me i got to jump ... now!" so you give the player a very clear visual clue and take the difficulty back to precision jumping instead of trial and error. One thing, once you have the tank on the very left, and succeed in jumping ONE load cart, it is almost too easy to wait for the next one to jump on. I almost made all the hits in one run since the tank is immobile and not doing anything and the cart has not the path to speed up. I do not know if this is wanted but it takes away the "hardness" of the tank once you know the trick. Which brings me to the most hated part in the level and you know what it is. **** this freaking sponge thingies. Not did I stepped on the buttons a lot resetting the whole thing by accident, no, it is almost impossible for me on the way back from the tank, to make one smooth run through that section. I am telling you, I would have quit that level right there if it was not a creator I know. I still think this part is way to frustrating and not challenging in sense of "you have to figure it out". No you get so ultimately punished for doing it wrong so that you have to start all over again. A BIG issue is still the size of the sponges. The should be as big as one sackboy so that it is not possible to grab tha thing on the far end side from which you cannot or only very difficulty jump from one sponge to the other. This is so impossible because you cannot correct your possition. Every try would flip the thing up and since you have to flip AND jump you can just start right there again when grabbing it wrong. Fix this section and you get your well deserved 5 stars. I lost half of the timer running just in that part and cursed a lot while doing it. After all your level is top notch, very impressive machines, easy to get into. I like hard bosses that succeed on the thin line between difficulty and frustration and yours have the potential for it. I would reccommend this level to everyone that has a knack for bosses and machines. 4 Stars and a heart. | 2009-04-29 08:34:00 Author: Fjonan Posts: 359 |
Bwahaha! I just achieved a score of 158.871. Top that Let's see who can beat me I got 159,837 - I was surprised I got that high of a score because of a few parts that took me longer than normal ... but mostly because I missed one of the bombs w/ the buttons on Carbon so I had to wait through another cycle. | 2009-04-30 04:49:00 Author: Coreymill Posts: 85 |
