HELP! advice for my level..

Archive: 11 posts

not exactly going to spill details but...

would it look bad if the storyline wasnt that good?

like its a good storyline.. just lots of missing information..
and the information would be given in part 2 of the series.

is that bad?

*edit*

like you go through the level not knowing whats going on, then someone comes to you saying, if you want to escape, do as i say, ill fill you in on whats going on once we escape. or something like that..

and it ends at the escape!

i dont see how that could be a bad thing? Thats the type of thing that drags players into looking for your second level in the series Of course, you might have to give em enough to string em along...

there are plenty of levels out there with little or no storyline, and ones that are so involved that they span across several levels are pretty cool if you ask me.

ty but uh... its more of a movie, (no real action till part 2, which i only have a vague idea for...

AND ANOTHER THING.....

is it ok to use the collector boss as a security robot in my level? people say using ingame things makes it look bad, but this might be a good exception
(i have no thermometer to make a good boss, and the collecter is a robot, that would work as security)

well... movies are unique? thats still interesting...

as to your other thing... well, nothings STOPPING you from putting it in as a security robot... but its always much cooler if you can use something that MM didnt. maybe try browsing other levels, or ask if someone else has one/can help you make one When you say you have no thermo... how much is that? XD cause a boss doesn't need to take up that much thermo to be good.

10%... thats like a full bar of the thermo, isn't it? o.o that should be plenty of space to make a robotic monstrosity to guard your premeses! Like i said, ask around, maybe someone has one up their sleeve already. I'd help, but i really should be doing my essays XD2009-04-22 05:11:00

I'm not 100% against occasional MM content on a level but something like a boss or enemy that's an MM construction immediately makes me think you either don't have the time to build your own or didn't know how to build your own. (I'm not saying either is true though - It's my own personal bias) I think a lot of players would't mind it so much.

About not getting any info at all in the level till the end. Maybe just a teaser at the beginning to draw the player in, then keep it all secretive till the end. I've played a few levels that go this way and it's never bothered me at all as a player.

Good luck with your level!

Really, the story isn't an important aspect for a level in my opinion.

Gimme great gameplay, great polish, good visuals and that will excuse any lack story.

this is the story...

*BIG SPOILER*

*SERIOUSLY DONT READ UNLESS YOU WANNA SPOIL THE SURPRISE*

and the title is, why sacks hate space, you volenteer to help out nasa, and they wanna take you to space, you say no, they knock you out and take you into training, you fly off, into the moon base, find out your going to be experimented cuz there trying to create the ultimate creature! *obviously your going to hafto kil it in part 2* and then an alein tentacle slithers about, pulls a switch, killing the scientist. and opening your cage door. you continue through and open the cage for these aliens, and they break a vent open, for you to pass, you get through, the security system tells you theres no sacks allowed past this point and the path closes, so you continue the other way passing odd creatures, and notice one of them is chewing a hole in the wall, YOUR WAY OUT! you fall through the hole and end up in another section, the security system says, YOUR LAST WARNING, PLEASE RETURN, when your alien friend from before blasts open the wall from the other side.
he tells you "listen to me, you have to take this elavator down, and go re-wire the genorator, once done come back to make your escape. this should bring the security system back to normal, AND WHATEVER HAPPENS DO NOT LISTEN TO THE SECURITY SYSTEM, untill it has been re-wired, it is trying to get you killed..

then you go fight the security bot, rewire it, go back, through the elavator, *BOOM*... wall breaks and a strange dark gas seeps out..

keep walking... room shakes...

"WARNING, WARNING, TOXIC SPILL DETECTED, AUTO DESTRUCT SEQUENCE ACTIVATED... 5 MINUTES UNTILL AUTO DESTRUCT, FIND THE ESCAPE PODS IN SECTOR D.
make your way there, once there you take an AMAZING escape, (took almost a month to get it working right...and it only works for 1-2 players cuz of wieght issues)
crash land into your house ending the level saying

..."to be continued"

start of #2, you wake up and its 1 week later, you go upstairs to see your roof is still missing from the crash... lol...

then your aleins come to get you, and fill you in on the details...

STILL THINKING OF WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN,..

then your probably going to have to sacrifice yourself to destroy the ultimate creature, making you spawn "behind the scenes" of
the end.
its gonna be a scene where a guy is in bed flipping the last page of a book, and says, "and thats why sacks hate space"

i can make bosses, (good ones) but i need like a template sortof,

for example.... i won metal gear, (it was just him...he didnt do anything...)

i got him to some-what follow you, shoot a deathray at you from the little electric beam on his back, launch missle from his back and hit you, shoot bombs/missles from his mouth, and launch bombs into the air, and the fall in a
___*_____*_____*____*____|

type pattern from his back!!!

but to start from scratch, a 3 yr old can beat me lol....

which takes me to this question.......... CAN ANYONE MAKE ME A GOOD ROBOT (THE SIZE OF THE COLLECTER APPROX) AND ONLY USE 1 MATERIAL? (ill customise it after, but i dont have much thermo left...)
