Level Collectors

Firstly, this might need a new name because of the obvious prior use of the "Collector" in the Story mode. Or you might think that that makes it the perfect name. Essentially the idea is a way for people to find good levels better, by establishing a group of people who rate and comment on levels where you can establish if you trust their views or not. I think this would be very difficult to get around with H4H rubbish, because anyone who rated a bad level highly just wouldn't get respected. How it would work: 1. You would have the option of declaring yourself a Level Collector within the game. If you do, you could set a paragraph of text about what you like, how you rate, what you look for. 2. At the simple level then, Level Collectors wouldn't have to do anything else except rate and tag levels as normal. There would be a new top level choice on level selection. They could be rated and hearted, and the best ones would be shown on a moon. Once you have selected a Level Collector, you could see the levels that they have rated, like the results of any search. Higher rated, hearted first. 3. To make things a bit better, more involved Level Collectors could do more. They could set up their own Categories "Vehicles", "For Kids", "Races", "Challenging", "Silly but fun" which they could put the levels they play inside (there would be a default "Unclassified") - they would be effectively rating within the category. 4. Level collectors would get highly ranked and hearted if people agreed with their ratings and if they went to a lot of effort to classify and comment on levels. 5. There would be two main ways to work as a collector: a rater (where everything you play gets added to your collections and bad things just have one star), or a collector where you are looking at themes and you only add certain levels. 6. There would need to be options for collectors to change categories, comments and ratings. 7. There would be a "Ask this collector to play my/a level" option which would send them a message with level details easily clickable. 8. A side effect would be that it would be a great way to distribute groups of levels, i.e for MM Picks, the guys who run LittleBigPodcast and the Community Spotlight/Level Showcase. Much easier to say "Check out our Podcast 14 picks under psnname collector", than give psnnames per level and hope you got them right. i didn't really read that properly because i'm falling asleep, but it sounds a little too complicated and would be hard to organise i think MM should browse some community forums like these and people can nominate good sensible reviewers.. which could be hired as a voluntary review crew and maybe given a few extra features like pushing a level they feel deserves more plays to the top of the lists or giving it a gold aura to show it's recommended.. and maybe the ability to contact MM ingame for suggestions/recommendations it'd be cool if players who feel their level deserved more plays could maybe send a shortcut for their level to the reviewer easily so they can check it out. and of course the reviewer would be able to block requests by people they find are spamming them with H4H levels | 2009-04-21 16:06:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
well i belive that is the sort of thing that the review league does only not incorporated into the game itself. Maybe we should start an official review commision on lbpc based on the rules you suggested. because i agree with you completely, the rating system needs some work. | 2009-04-21 16:39:00 Author: redmagus Posts: 667 |
I think that's probably right. In fact I think for rich text comments, you'll never be able to beat the forums, but my feeling is that the number of people who play the game is vastly more than the number on these forums. Imagine if things were exactly as they are now with reviews and showcases on the forum, but also that these groups of levels and ratings were available to all users in-game. Apologies if the description looks a bit complicated, I was probably a bit asleep as I wrote it. It isn't that bad I promise, but I think if you tried to write down the way the search or rating works now, it would look very complicated, but you soon get used to it. is there anything like that on lbpc already? cuz if there isnt we should seriously consider setting one up, its a really good idea and i didnt think that your explanation was that complicated | 2009-04-21 16:48:00 Author: redmagus Posts: 667 |
I think this is an extremely complicated suggestion and that it wouldn't ever be implemented anyways since it would involve some major redesign. We don't need a complicated and detailed system just like that. The promotion side of levels and proper rating problems could be solved (at least partially) with just a couple of fundamental changes to the game's design. . | 2009-04-21 18:09:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
