Games you're insanely good at for some reason

Archive: 38 posts

Recently, I plugged up my Dreamcast again (with the VGA adapter, it looks awesome) and booted up The House of the Dead 2 because it's been a ridiculously long time since I've used my Dreamcast. I used to be amazingly good at THotD2 when I was younger; I somehow managed to beat the entire game without losing a single credit or missing a single hostage...and I did this more than once. The only enemy that could hit me was the freaking final boss. Now, I can barely get to the final boss on my fourth credit, and if I'm lucky, I can get by him with two.

Shmups are also cool once you get good at them. When I first started out with the genre, I could barely get passed the first effing stage of Gradius. Now I can get to stage four on a normal playthrough without getting hit.

Yeah, I've found that going back to games I used to play a ton, I'm somehow better than I was. Especially games that require timing like shmups.

But the one game is Virtua Fighter 4, which is strange because I'm garbage at fighting games. I remember being at an arcade when it came out playing by myself when this kid came up and just joined for no reason. Ended up beating him like 3 times in a row. More people come, beat them all. Finally this older guy shows up and finally beats me his 2nd try and looks all smug at me.I think I sarcastically told him 'good job' and walked away. The entire situation was funny considering the whole time I just wanted these people to leave so I could play the single player in peace!

Wow totally opposite for me. For some reason I can't hold a N64 controller like I used to, so I suck at any game that requires skill that I used to be awesome at when I was a small baby whale.2009-04-21 08:12:00

Well, you know that game DotA? It's a map in WCIII: Frozen Throne which is surprisingly popular here. I play it online sometimes, and I sucked at it. I was getting owned everywhere, and ended up just watching my brother play.

I then played with my friends and I own them pretty bad. I don't know why, I suck when playing with strangers, but I'm pretty good playing against people I know. But after a few years of not playing, I'm now a noob :o

I'm in the world's top 25 players of Gripshift. I finish Cruisin'USA in the arcade with only one game.

Actually, racing and platformers are where I perform the best.

Hmmm, i'm good at most games (bar RTS & RPG) really but not insanely good at anything. I got the Big Boss Emblem on MGS4 so that's some skill I guess. I'm fairly good at football games too, despite rarely playing them.2009-04-21 19:59:00

I don't know about 'insanely good' but i've completed my favourite game ( Front Mission 3 ) 8 or 9 times at 40-50 hours gameplay each time so i must be doing something right.

Your mention of the Dreamcast reminded me of some great games I played on that.

Skies of Arcadia was a fantastic rpg but one game that I was really enjoying was Shenmue which was an epic saga with some really innovative gameplay and a wonderful story and characters. I played the first 2 instalments and was really looking forward to the next chapter when the news came in of the Dreamcast being scrapped. What a real shame that was because the console was awesome for it's time and the games, Shenmue in particular, were some of the best games around on any console.

The biggest disappointment was that Shenmue wasn't continued and ported to the PS3 because as great as the game was it made it pointless having bought and played the first 2 games because the whole idea was to continue the journey and solve the mystery which was totally engrossing.

This along with the loss of the ABE series are for me the 2 biggest disappointments in gaming history.

Battlefield bad company!
at the height of my career i used to get like 20/8 Kill/death on most matches =D, my best was 2/23! That game has many aspects that are perfect (and with perfect i mean like how every other shooter should be), and some parts which are completely dumb... But the good aspects kept me going and made me a pro at the game despite that i usually never get so good that i can compare myself to other online players.

Edit: Oh, and i'm insanely good at a warcraft 3 map too, it's called Line tower wars and is the best towerdefence game you'll ever find. I (almost) always win.

You can just tell this thread is/is gonna be full of people just boasting about themselves xD Guaranteed-to-make-people-happy-with-themselves thread...

All the dreamcast games are pretty easy to be great at tbh
Powerstone and Sonic Adventure being the first 2 that spring to mind
On the suspected boasting front, I'm pretty much guaranteed the top of high ranked games on COD4... But then again.. that's what everybody says.. They pick out their top games and pass them off as their average xD I can honestly say my average is about 2:1, but sometimes I go through bad games and get 1:2 or great games and get 5:1 - 10:1, just depends really, not a hard game to be good at

Agreed, nothing wrong with stroking the old ego every once and a while. Anyone here play CoD:WaW online? I like to think I'm pretty good at headquarters and the zombie game.2009-04-21 21:25:00

GUITAR HERO!

I'm no good anymore, though. Haven't played in a long time. Now all those flying colors make me dizzy.

Hmmm... not many really. I mean I'm good at games but dunno how good I am. I'm pretty good at Fifa and Pro Evo I guess.

I suck at Shmups and top down shooters (Gradius, Everyday Shooter etc.). Also not great at RPGs though they are kind of easy, just take the time to grind and you can overcome any boss even if you suck.

I'm probably best at Action/Adventure games, Platformers and Stealth games.

Fallout 3. I set it to Very Hard, and I can just wander around killing anything in my path. I have so many caps I don't know what to do with, and more ammo than you could shoot. Oh well.2009-04-22 21:25:00

That's weird. I'm playing on normal. Caps, ammo, weapons and health are all constantly in short supply.

I played it on normal and it was kind of challenging until I got way OP but very hard seems like it would be nearly impossible. But a tip to get caps. Always take as much sellable crap as possible. And when you can't carry anymore but run across something good drop things of lesser value to replace them. And of course go back to a town and sell them. But always take crap just to sell it2009-04-23 22:12:00

I've always been above average in playing games, but never have been above the top 10%. That being said, I'm doing extremely well in LBP so far; I aced every level without too many tries.

Can't really say I'm extremely good at any game. They are all limited by my fingers not doing what I tell them to do. Imperfection of my fleshy digits is what kills me, not my tactical knowledge or timing. XD
