I remember you made a sketch for sky town, robot town, and you had one with this style
it's awesome seeing your drawings come to life!

I personally thought the visuals for this level were amazing, it feels like you're exploring a giant art form
although there isn't much challenge, this more than makes up for it for me

I really liked it when it looked as though objects in the background were passing through each other because they were the same colour, it gave it a really nice 3d effect.
And the variety of settings really gave it the feeling that you were exploring and finding new lands

A few things you could improve is making it longer and creating a larger variety of interesting backgrounds, and possibly making it more challenging
Maybe you could add some hidden sections too

I was in the garden enjoying the sunshine when I saw the pics for this, I immediatly came indoors and fired the PS3 up. Heres what I thought as I play.

+ Awesome visuals, the trees and vines really set it off and the church looks fantastic.
+ Your platforming sections are also good, nothing I hav'nt seen before but again the visual style really helps it along.
+ I was very impressed by the contrasting village just after the platforming. I loved how all the level has a very twisted and slightly askew look to everything.
+ Liked the rolling ball section and the windmill that came after it
+ Great section with jumping up the various planes

- It came to end much to quick, wheres the rest of the level, what you had was fantastic

Very good but very short is all I can really say, are you adding more the level in the future?

****, beautiful and hearted in case you decide to more

You REALLY need to add more

An extremely cool looking level. Really love the style you went with for it. And I wasn't too upset with the length myself, and I assume with all of those cutouts and custom shapes you might not have the ability to make it a whole lot longer. However, I did think that the ending seemed a little abrupt, I am not sure how you can make it seem more 'satisfying' at the end, but that's really the only complaint I have.2009-04-20 17:59:00

Pros:

- Looks great. The fences and vines really impress.
- Decent challenge. Not difficult by any standard but wasn`t just walking through looking at pretty scenery either.
- Well made. I was never stuck, I never got caught on a piece of background, or fell off a ledge because I couldn`t see where it ended etc.

Cons:

- It`s short. Took less than 2 mins to get through on my first playthrough.
- The music. The music is quiet, which is fine, but all i can hear is the noise of the toxic gas over it. So I`d suggest either picking louder and livelier music, or moving the gas lower down to lessen the noise.
- There`s not a lot to do. The obstacles you do have are all very good, but there are so few. Right near the beginning you do something, then there is a fairly big gap before anything else happens. My suggestion would be to fill in these gaps with stuff to do.
- The ending just sort of happens as it`s just sitting on a shelf almost. A nice challenge to finish it off would be welcome.

You get 5 stars and a heart from me.

I just played this, and also really loved it. At the end of it, though, I thought "man.... I REALLY wish there was more".

If you ever want to revisit this, my suggestion is to take a few of the areas and expand on them to make the level longer. For instance, swinging on the hooks: fantastic idea, was a lot of fun..... but there was only 2 hooks. The maze at the end - wow, great maze - but it was really short. The windmill - how about an area where you can throw yourself up and expand a bit vertically to pick up some points?

The only reason I say this is because I really enjoyed it, and think it could be a masterpiece if it was expanded.

Regardless, 5 stars and a heart from me.

Absolutely amazing visual style. I am loving these highly artistic levels from you such as your Sky Town level as well.

Bit disappointed you didnt opt for some collectables and point scoring elements in the level or maybe even an interesting Black/White Boss (Silhouette Mirage stylee!!) but still impressive all the same.

Stunningly beautiful graphic quality to this level! I adore the design and the landscape is like a cross between Sin City and Tim Burton. Just amazing art direction.

I know you said you wanted to make it fast and fun and weren't worried about length of the level but it's so heartbreaking to have it so short. I agree with CCubbage - you have a potential masterpiece on your hands and are only showing the smile of the Mona Lisa instead of her whole face.

I gave it 5 stars and hearted it for the graphic style and solid platforming - I just couldn't punish it for the legnth.

Got my 5/5/heart...

I however agree with everyone else... It is too short.

I also wish there was some more ambiance... Sounds or something to make it more complex...

Artistically, this is one of the best levels I have played. And I love the whole Tim Burton feel...

Wow...the monotone palette looks stunning. I was really impressed with this as far as I got, but due to my shoddy skills as a player I couldn't get past the platforming bit with the blocks. I kept on messing up the jumps until my lives were gone, restarting the level, and then writing the same sorry story all over again the next time around. Any chance of sticking a checkpoint somewhere mid-route so ol' cripplefingers here can see the rest of the level? I know others have said there's not enough challenge already though, so I'll understand if you don't want to make the blocks section any easier, but here's hoping anyway...2009-04-21 20:34:00

Nice looking level. Very eye catching it reminds me a bit of Escher Waterfall picture. Especially just before the end. The walking on the ball platform puzzle was really good. 5* hearted.
Makes me want to do an a stylised type level.

edit- I just played your Sackboy in sky town level. Brilliant, quality ending.

The visual style is great. I like that you didn't resort to using fogging like alot of simillar-ish looking levels do.

It was a little short but had some good platforming ideas. The rolling ball bit was very cool and not something I've seen done before.

The visuals are great but the level itself was alittle underwhelming. Now you've nailed the visual style I'd love to see you develop the other elements to make some really great levels. Maybe think of this as an intro level.

You might be able to do something interesting with the paint gun. I liked the way some objects appeared invisible as they were white against a white background. Perhaps you could use the paint gun to reveal hard to see platforms.

fantastic level! very unique and striking look and nice variation of gameplay! would love to see more of this! this is a level i could spend a long time in just drinking in the atmosphere! Have you had an opportunity to check out my level yet? it is halloweentown themed, definitely more of a walkthrough than a full-fledged level, but i spent a lot of time getting the look right! check it out and leave a comment! video link is in my sig, PSN id: RE_pulse. thanks! once again, amazing artistic achievement!2009-04-23 19:36:00

I played this earlier and it was brilliant! I'm not sure if this has been suggested yet but you should add some more detail to the scoreboard. For a level to have such visual quality and then to end so blandly is disappointing.

5 stars an a heart from me.

I thought it was brilliant! I loved the art direction in this level. I also liked the way how you made it look like some of the objects were in the background of the level but they actually were not (like those crosses at the part where you walk past the church) and it really felt like my sack was walking around in some sort of abstract artwork. It had some solid platforming too.

My only problem was with other people it was quite short, but still an excellent piece of art nontheless.

5 stars and a heart from me.

This level was really cool. Extremely well detailed. Sublime concept. Totally a Jump_Button production. I love your other stuff and I loved this one too. Albeit a bit short. Where's the thermo at on it? If you don't mind me asking.2009-04-24 20:06:00

It looks cute, I like it. Not much gameplay, but that is okay. The simple visuals were well worth the short experience. It ended a bit plain and sudden.

I will propably check out your other levels.

I thought the visuals in this level were absolutely out of this world. Only portion I had a problem with was rolling on that rock thing, but that was because I was experiencing some problems from a broken controller. Five stars and hearted. Great work!2009-05-03 05:00:00

I love the visuals of this level! So clean and simple, but extremely stylish! I love the world that you created and how it kind of breaks apart and then comes back together at the end. Awesome!

Like others have suggested, it'd be nice if the level was a bit longer, but other than that, I really enjoyed the minimalist style and platforming. Well done, now give me more!

Agree with everyone else really. Awesome looking, really stylish. Much better looking than levels that have gone for just the two colours, (Simplexity for example, not a big fan of tbh! Granted there was a lot more to that level.)

Saying that, apart from the looks there wasn't much too it, simple basic platforming, nothing too original or unique. I guess that's understandable considering it was just a side project for you. As someone else said it just seemed to end of all a sudden.

I played your other levels too, really nice. I know the wrong thread to say it but i dunno if you have threads for your levels. In Robot town there are a few layer problems, you've cut out holes in the background for detail, and if you jump at the wrong time you end up stuck in them. Just thought I'd mention it in case you didn't know

On the whole I loved them all, definitely put together with an artists eye. They look amazing and in parts have some real unique gameplay. Only suggestion would possibly be to tighten them up a bit. So instead of having 3 levels with unique ideas dotted around them, save your ideas and collect them together in 1 or 2 amazing levels Hearted!

Could you possible give me feedback on my 'Flaming Timberland 2' level? Thread is below if you want to Thanks!
