Original music contest 2

It's the the origanal music 2 and what it's all about is making an original song on LittleBigPlanet. NO REMIXES OF SONGS THAT ALREADY EXIST!!!

What you do is create a song, publish it, and post the level on this thread. it will be judged by me, Pitcard, and RangerZero

The deadline is May 25th. So if you wanna enter you better hurry up.

The prizes will be given like this:
1st place will get 750xp
2nd place will get 500xp
3rd place will get 250xp

when you submit please post it like this:
Level Name:the level's name here
PSN: your psn name
Description: desription of the song <--- the description is optional

not to worry because only 500xp comes out of my pocket to buy the exp share item. cartman himself gives the the exp. i just pm him the winner's names and he gives you the exp. also as far as i know it's 1 exp share per contest.2009-04-21 22:49:00

I might have a go at this. After messing around for a while I think I actually found a really simple and easy may of making a musical stage. The problem is working with the same tune for so many hours will probably drive me crazy.2009-04-22 15:05:00

I don't know if I have time for this, just like I didn't have time for the first contest. I don't know really... I would've volunteered for judge duty, but that seems taken at this point.

Will I make a level? I don't know. MAYBE. Not sure. I have a lot going on right now... you know, work, college, and all the other garbage that occupies my life. I REALLY want to participate though... The prizes look mighty fine.		2009-04-23 00:34:00

Nice I'm lookin forward to hearing it. You can spend as much time as you want polishing it, we're not gonna judge you on that, but I encourage people to spruce them up a bit just for the sake of making it more enjoyable for the sackpeople playing it!

But really, I think it's good. It's not easy coming up with a decent songs given the available sounds!

I didn't do anything particularly innovative though, but the song itself is good and I figured out a simple way of getting notes to fade out at some points.		2009-05-01 04:10:00

Assuming that HilightNotes submitted his one 3 days ago, the deadline is the 25th of May! (3 weeks after the 1st submitted level)

We may stretch it out if we're waiting on someone who's got a level in its final stages. Its all up to superBlast though, its his contest!

Well the deadline IS strict. We're expecting everyone who wants to participate to have their levels in by then!... but say if we only got 2 submissions... we'd probably consider waiting for a few more if they're still working on it. Well, we won't be judging for presentation at all, the music is what matters. But it is a good idea to make the level user-friendly. And sure, spend as much time with sprucing the level up as you want. I'll PM you a few ideas if I have any ok?

Do you have a multi-track recorder? The best I can do with is a four-track analogue recorder, still works.		2009-05-23 22:12:00

Um.. I'm gonna say its perfectly fine korndawg. First of all, I don't think anyone has played the first one you entered yet... Maybe you should edit or delete your post with your first level in it, so there's no confusion when we're judging.

Well.. Seems like there's only 4 entries after all. But thats still one better than the first contest

I think music contest 3 will be well worth it, seems like me, silverleon and deboerdave are regulars, and Korndawwg already has a level made that he can still submit for contest 3. And I'm sure more people will participate once it comes around.

Me and Ranger should be done judging by the 1st of June and I'll announce the winner then if we're on schedule.

Anywho, just did English paper 1 today, and I'm pretty happy with how I did ^^
So now to see how well our contestants did!

I'm gonna give a breakdown of what I thought about each level and then announce the winner, because I think its only fair that each of you get a mention because you all composed such different songs with unique ideas
(in order of submission)


Flyin Through by Hilightnotes

Although it uses the traditional method of pushing a block along, it works perfectly fine. The timing is kept and the structure of the song itself I found very solid. You've implemented a new method for letting certain parts of the song fade out, which I found very clever and was a nice subtle touch to the piece.
Personally, I really enjoyed the melodies. I'm big into electronic music, and to me your interlaced chirpy upbeat melodies reminded me of 8-bit or chiptune music. Great job Hilight!



Musicman by Deboerdave

Very interesting musical ideas here. I like how you left it to the player to play with the music in a sort of a musical sandbox. I managed to get a glimpse of what was going on in the background and the mechanics involved in generating your loops. Its all very well implemented especially the player following device. It's an ideal invention in this case because it allows the player to go off and explore the different musical devices in the level without losing the main backing. I liked how you used some other sound effects to create some interesting music loops such as the screaming and breaking noises ^^
I found the level slightly cluttered though, but that shouldn't take away from the musical experience too much. Nice ideas Dave!


Ephemeral Dream by KoRnDawwg

A very solid yet innovative composition. I found your timing really well done, generally there are tiny inaccuracies in LBP's engine and I find even if you do everything to grid, it still won't be perfect. But you've done a really great job with the rhythm and timing of this piece. Its in 6/8 time (if I'm not mistaken :S), so great job in achieving that. I liked your use of piano and drums, even if it sounded a bit sparse, it certainly suited the piece. The melodies were well crafted and unusual.
I also noticed you used some lightening sound effects with really helped build the tension in the piece. Nice one Dawwg!


Hyougen (Snow Field) by SilverLeon (Yarudark)

Yet again, it really shows that you play piano! For a piano only composition, its very complex and free flowing. Its got some fast fluttering scales and some bold melodies. But its also got some really delicate harmonies that you might only notice after listening a few times. I thought that the tempo was a little iffy at certain bits, but for such an ambient piano piece I don't think that really pulls the piece down. I really liked the very last bit, but was perhaps cut a bit short. Beautiful stuff none the less Leon!
