Movie Guessing Contest!
Archive: 143 posts
Hey guys and girls. Due to some pressure from a select few movie lovers around I've kicked off another movie guessing game, this time with rounds and xp prizes. The Objective here is Simple. Each round I provide 10-20 screen shots from random films. Your job is to try and identify the movies from the small screens. The first person to correctly name all the movies will walk away with a whooping 100 xp. Guidelines 1. Do not name any of the movies in this thread! Even in a Spoiler Tag. If you think you have the answers send me a PM. 2. Even if you only know a couple of the answers you can still send in the answers. If nobody manages to name all the movies before the deadline the person who came closest will win. 3. The winner of a round will be omitted from earning any XP from the next round to keep people from racking up endless combo's. (You can still play if you want to, for kicks.) 4. Play fair and have fun! ----- Round One Deadline: - Winner: Cog (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/member.php?u=3111) Answers: 1. 12 Angry Men 2. Brazil 3. Catch me if you can 4. Clerks 5. are you sure someone is going to manage all 20? i struggle to even name 3-4 i think you should've split this into 2 rounds.. that way you wouldn't have to go through the effort of uploading more movie pics for round 3 | 2009-04-21 19:22:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
I know 18 of them at the moment, I don't think the remaining 2 will become clear to me though... | 2009-04-21 19:46:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
I've figured out a couple more but it doesn't seem like I'll be any competition for Zwollie's 18 Grrrrr | 2009-04-21 20:35:00 Author: Pitcard Posts: 779 |

What are the rules on looking stuff up on IMDB? I had like 8 from round two on sight, but I looked up a few more that I half knew... | 2009-04-23 16:31:00 Author: Walter-Kovacs Posts: 542 |
Morrinn said its K to send him the answers you know... and then if you figure more out, you can send those. I dunno about looking them up on IMDB though :S... I suppose no one can't tell for certain so theres no way of stopping you ^^ | 2009-04-23 16:51:00 Author: Pitcard Posts: 779 |
Well, I have actually leaked a Backdoor virus onto into the BSS code so I have complete access to all of your computers and will definitely be checking your histories to see if you have been cheating on IMDb. (Btw, Pitcard, you are a dirty, dirty little man. And Walter, those donkey pictures? Not cool, bro.) But actually, no, I have no problem with you guys using the Database. Just try and limit it to just looking stuff up, don't go seeking help and sharing the pictures or anything. Scout's honour, eh? | 2009-04-23 17:42:00 Author: Morrinn3 Posts: 493 |
Well......... all I can say to redeem myself is...... at least I don't have "donkey pictures" O_o I believe I've figured out 2 more.... through some sneaky browsing, might as well pm you them so! | 2009-04-23 19:06:00 Author: Pitcard Posts: 779 |

Round two is now complete. Nobody managed to guess all 20 correctly, but Zwollie came closest with 18/20. Give the bugger a round of applause... Or throw something icky at him if that suits your fancy. I've put up the answers in the original post for those of you who are interested. Round three will go up sometime tomorrow. | 2009-04-27 20:14:00 Author: Morrinn3 Posts: 493 |

Righty-o, Round three is now complete. Again, nobody managed all 20, but Cog again walks away with the prize for coming closest with 19/20. Honourable mention goes to V0rtex for having 18/20, tough luck, brother. I'll put the elusive answers in a spoiler tag on Page One. Stay tuned for Round Four, which will go live sometime next Thursday. | 2009-05-05 15:29:00 Author: Morrinn3 Posts: 493 |
Congrats Cog! I managed a measly 13 but I thought that was pretty good for me | 2009-05-05 16:01:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |

Oh em gee how did I not get 2k1?! It's my bloody avatar! OPEN THE FRICKIN' MENTAL DOORS, HAL, AND REMEMBER THE MOVIES. HAHAHAHA...... pwn'd...... O_o I'm sorry... it must be painful enough for you. I don't see how we're ever gonna beat the likes of Cog and Gravel (if his claims are true). Still, I can't wait for the next round whether I win or not. | 2009-05-05 19:19:00 Author: Pitcard Posts: 779 |
Good job cog. All i have to say is: two Tim Robbins movies and no Hudsucker Proxy? | 2009-05-05 19:25:00 Author: Walter-Kovacs Posts: 542 |
Oh em gee how did I not get 2k1?! It's my bloody avatar! OPEN THE FRICKIN' MENTAL DOORS, HAL, AND REMEMBER THE MOVIES. LOLFOFL! Oh that's so sad - and funny! Maybe he'll put something from the sequel in a few weeks (Not meant to be mean) | 2009-05-05 23:46:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Haha, thanks everyone. But 'Der Untergang'?!?! No wonder I got that wrong >_> Hey would it be cool if I could suggest one movie for the next round? I could even find a good picture for it. | 2009-05-06 02:10:00 Author: Kog Posts: 2358 |
Good job cog. All i have to say is: two Tim Robbins movies and no Hudsucker Proxy? I didn't want to overdo the Cohen Brothers. I realized the other day there was a Cohen movie in every round... But then again, I'm a fanatic follower of the Two headed director. | 2009-05-06 02:10:00 Author: Morrinn3 Posts: 493 |
Hey Cog! Congratulat...>gag< >cough< >spit< Oh man - I really thought I could get through it! jk, of course... good job man! But 'Der Untergang'?!?! No wonder I got that wrong >_> I know, right? And having never seen Cloverfield, I didn't recognize the actor or the scene (my only other miss). I'll get you though Cog (and your little dog [insert wicked witch laugh here]). At least you're out of this next round! | 2009-05-06 04:24:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
Ya, now I can't ruin your chances. But nah, I don't want to be mean so I probably won't join in for a couple rounds. I've won twice, and there have only been three rounds, so I think I'll take a good long hibernative rest. | 2009-05-06 05:01:00 Author: Kog Posts: 2358 |
I'm back in the game, baby!! | 2009-05-06 05:49:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
What was number 4? I was sure it was the blues brothers scene where they are chased by the police through the mall! | 2009-05-06 12:22:00 Author: Unknown User |
What was number 4? I was sure it was the blues brothers scene where they are chased by the police through the mall! Yup - it was | 2009-05-06 19:04:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Morgana, I hope not - I've never seen the sequels. Apparently, they had some sort of plot or something, which is what I don't want to see I think it'd be best to treasure 2k1 on its own... | 2009-05-06 19:14:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
I can respect that but I still like 2010. Great background paintings. And more HAL. | 2009-05-06 19:18:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Fairy nuff. I'll watch it if I get a chance And I cannae wait until Thursday, even though I'll only get around 4. EDIT: Hmm, accidental pun there. Around 4, round 4, etc... eh. | 2009-05-06 19:28:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |

Movie #1 is SUCH a good movie that EVERYBODY should see. It's similar to Aeon Flux. IT's just so good. I know a few, but not many. It's just fun to have a guess at a few :3. | 2009-05-13 11:54:00 Author: Unknown User |
Round 4 is now over. Big celebratory cheer to v0rtex for identifying the bulk of the screenshots. Round five will be up soon, and it will feature a... surprise theme. I've put the answers to round 4 up there in the first post as usual so head on over if any particular answer kept eluding you. | 2009-05-14 18:44:00 Author: Morrinn3 Posts: 493 |
Cogratulations Vortex!!! Well done. I only had 12 I think. | 2009-05-14 19:38:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Woot! Thanks Morrinn! These are a lot of fun. Although, it may be uncovering a certain lack of a life on my part. I do love the movies though. Can't wait until Round 5. Can I still play even if I can't win? | 2009-05-14 21:55:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
v0rtex, congrats! I think you can't enter this round, though I got 12 - all the ones I'd seen. How many'd you get, v0rtex? | 2009-05-14 21:58:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Congrats Vortex!! I totally forgot to enter this round ,ha!! Next time.... | 2009-05-14 21:58:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
Aww shucks.... I had 16, but two of the ones I got wrong were ones I'd seen before >_> Congrats to you sir v0rtex, how many did ye get in the end?? | 2009-05-14 22:25:00 Author: Pitcard Posts: 779 |
I only had 16. I missed: 01-Equilibrium 04-1984 13-Death at a Funeral 17-The Frighteners | 2009-05-15 03:57:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
Fair enough. I totally guessed 1984 purely on the fact that the face on the TV screen looked like it was watching the guy I have never seen that film. | 2009-05-15 19:09:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
I only had 16. I missed: 01-Equilibrium 04-1984 13-Death at a Funeral 17-The Frighteners Huh.. I thought I had 16 correct also? Maybe it was because I only said Kill Bill and not volume one >_>... Morrinn? | 2009-05-16 15:13:00 Author: Pitcard Posts: 779 |
Huh.. I thought I had 16 correct also? Maybe it was because I only said Kill Bill and not volume one >_>... Morrinn? Yeah - I wondered about this as well. And it couldn't be cuz I answered first, since I got my entry in about 5 hours before he announced the winner! | 2009-05-16 16:32:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
Pitcard, he should have emailed you how many you got. If you did get 16, and EARLIER than v0rtex, I'm afraid we have a problem. | 2009-05-16 16:34:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Yeah... that's why I was confused. He didn't send me a reply saying how many I got, but I just presumed he wasn't doing that anymore >_> | 2009-05-16 19:43:00 Author: Pitcard Posts: 779 |
He sent me one. Maybe it just didn't go through? MORRINN. WE NEED A NEW ROUND. | 2009-05-17 10:10:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
I am a massive idiot and I truly beg all of you pardon... First off, I've been away on business and due to all the hectic schedule I've suffered lately I forgot to properly announce the hiatus in the game. Even worse however was the huge mistake I made in the last round. Upon going through my inbox and cleaning out all the old messages I fear I might have deleted some fresh entries from Pitcard. All I noticed was a message I presume must have been adding to his original answers, and mistook it for his only guesses. To rectify this error I will am going to ask Cartman to grant also grant Pitcard experience while still allow him to compete in R5, I hope this will be sufficient compensation along with my sincere apology. Since I cannot confirm the winner, V0rtex will still be named the champion of R4, retaining his XP (Since it would be unfair to subtract it at this late date), the condition being that he'll have to abstain from entering R5. I hope this will appease everyone, if there are any objections, please let me know and I'll see if I can help. I am at the moment compiling Round 5 which will go up tomorrow. Stay tuned. | 2009-05-21 19:07:00 Author: Morrinn3 Posts: 493 |
We're all human.... well - except for a few of the members here. (j/k) I think that's an excellent compromise for the dual winners. Very fair of you I think. Can't wait for Round 5.... I'm hoping I can do better than 12 this time around! I do have to say I love the range you put in the films. Really fun game! | 2009-05-21 19:13:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
We're all robot AIs here (well, except for a FEW members here - j/k) Thanks for letting us know. Can't wait for the next round! | 2009-05-21 19:14:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Great of you to clear it up like that!! Yes, can't wait for round 5 either....I wonder what that theme will be.... | 2009-05-21 19:35:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
Aaaahh... that seems acceptable to me. But it does bring up a question. In the future, what will be the resolution for another tie? Congrats, BTW, to Pitcard! Well done sir! | 2009-05-21 19:42:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
In the case of a tie, the one who answered first will be considered the victor. It's only in this case that we're forced to compromise due to an error on my behalf :< Another note; winning a round will exclude you from earning prizes in the subsequent round, but you are still free to participate for fun | 2009-05-21 20:20:00 Author: Morrinn3 Posts: 493 |
We're all robot AIs here (well, except for a FEW members here - j/k) You know what's really funny is you were exactly the member I was thinking of when I typed that. LOL - too cool you figured it out! | 2009-05-21 20:30:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Aight people. Round Five is now Live! This is a special Anime/Animation round! Have fun y'all. | 2009-05-23 18:51:00 Author: Morrinn3 Posts: 493 |
Nice! You've got this thing back on track with an anime round to boot I'm big into anime and non-disney animated films, but this looks kinda tricky. I know about 7 though.. | 2009-05-23 19:10:00 Author: Pitcard Posts: 779 |
I only got 5, for this round. There are a few more that look really familiar but I can't place them... | 2009-05-23 19:13:00 Author: Walter-Kovacs Posts: 542 |
wow i thought i'd be good at a toon round, but i only know 1 xD the rest i couldn't even take a guess | 2009-05-23 19:17:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
Boy, am I glad this round comes after my win! I am a solid 0/10 on this round. The animation that I generally see is mainstream, Disney/Pixar, kids fare. And less and less of that as my kids have grown out it. But... since I am not eligible anyway, I shall cheat. I have a buddy for whom animation (especially obscure anime) is almost an obsession. I'll have him feed me the answers! I'm curious to see how well he does. Good luck to the rest of y'all!! | 2009-05-23 19:23:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
Uh oh - this is trouble. I know 1, have a hunch on 2 and am totally clueless on the rest! LOL. My animation/anime background doens't include a lot of these apparently. Lucky Vortex | 2009-05-23 21:05:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |

Lucky Vortex Wow... a good few of those are among the biggest names in animation/anime. Once the titles are revealed you guys should get watching those! | 2009-05-23 23:14:00 Author: Pitcard Posts: 779 |
meh. I've tried to get into anime (via loans from the aforementioned buddy). It just doesn't float my boat; drift my wood; open my door; seize my day; sew my seams; water my gardens; (shall I go on??). | 2009-05-23 23:29:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
float my boat; drift my wood; open my door; seize my day; sew my seams; water my gardens; Fnarr Fnarr... Anywho I know #10, and I'm sure I know of a couple others (eg men round table, woman down stairs). I don't watch much anime though. | 2009-05-24 00:37:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
For somebody who has watched countless anime movies, I only know 3 -_-. BTW, you HAVE TO see number 6 when the name is revealed. Best. Movie. EVAR! | 2009-05-24 03:39:00 Author: Unknown User |
BTW, you HAVE TO see number 6 when the name is revealed. Best. Movie. EVAR! No way dude, number 2 FTW! Number 6 is really good though, I think I like it even more than number 8. | 2009-05-24 04:07:00 Author: Walter-Kovacs Posts: 542 |

It just doesn't float my boat; drift my wood; open my door; seize my day; sew my seams; water my gardens; (shall I go on??). Well, with all that going on who could possibly pay attention to a movie... I am disappointed with myself I've only got 7 for sure. | 2009-05-24 05:06:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |

Ayups, just a few more hours to send in guesses. The current high score is 8/10. | 2009-05-31 21:46:00 Author: Morrinn3 Posts: 493 |
Righty-o. Round Five: TOONS! is now complete. Aaaaand the winner is: Gravel (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/member.php?u=4317)! With 8/10 Round of Applause goes to him. Once again, I'll post the answers in a spoiler in the first post for those of you who are curious. Round 6 will go up Wednesday. | 2009-06-01 11:44:00 Author: Morrinn3 Posts: 493 |
Doh! The two that I didn't get were Ghost in the Shell: Innocence and Wolf Brigade, but I've actually got Innocence on dvd at home and all >_> Ah well, good job Gravel. Akira is by far my favourite out of those. Closely followed by the 2 Ghibli ones. Oh Morrinn, you should do a Horror movies round at some stage | 2009-06-01 14:07:00 Author: Pitcard Posts: 779 |
Ahh I should have got a couple more. But I was no where NEAR 8. Well done Gravel! | 2009-06-01 15:13:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Thank-you... thank you... I shall humbly wear this crown with the full knowledge that my reign will be that of a shadow passing on the floor of a deep canyon at high noon. "Gravel, Say... What !?!" No, seriously. | 2009-06-01 15:29:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
uhm, high noon is like a minute or two, shadows @ noon are short or non-existent, the sun doesn't really penetrate all the way to the floor of deep chasms... so therefore, it would be a shadow amongst shadows or indistinguishable from the others around it, or perhaps even "lost". Let simmer for 5 minutes. Pepper w/Led Zeppelin norse lyric... decoding of Gravel-speak. | 2009-06-01 15:40:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |

I understood it before the breakdown..... is that wrong? But I am confused about living in paradise if "he comes from the land of the ice and snow"? I do too but paradise isn't a tag I'd use. lol btw - Congrats Gravel! Turns out I've only seen one of those films so I don't feel so bad about not knowing them. Bring on the next round! | 2009-06-02 05:23:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |

Which one's that? If its not Akira... GO SEE IT NAAOOWW Seriously, its generally considered the best animated film ever. And there's good reason for it. | 2009-06-02 19:07:00 Author: Pitcard Posts: 779 |
Akira is great... no doubt, but after that, it was the first Ghost in the Shell that had me picking gum and sticky popcorn crumbs out my jaw as I scooped it up off the theatre floor... Grave of the Fireflies, is another great anime known for it's emotional scope (sad) and sepia tones. I whole-heartedly suggest LAIN:Serial Experiments, Iria (somethin-somethin Zeiram the animation), Haibane Renmei, and Cowboy Beebop! for cool episodic fun...(For great art I love; Voices of a Distant Star; 5 centimeters per second... which looks very much like selection #4 from the quiz; Magnetic Rose ( which i haven't seen yet and got it wrong)) Incidently, it was a good genre for me, I've got 3 cats named; Ryoko, Ayeka, and Tenchi all named after Tenchi Muyo! characters and have several cels. Ya know, I was thinking about you Vortex the other day... you & anime. There is no denying there is a cultural gap in the art, language, and most predominantly in how the story is told. I find every time I watch a particular anime, it strikes me in a completely new and different way. I am always 'adjusting' my understanding of the story with each and every viewing... it really is quite an amazing thing. Therefore I would suggest finding a film or subject matter that you find an emotional tie too! Good Luck to all next week! | 2009-06-02 20:37:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
Yup - Akira was the only one I've seen. I got into Lodus Wars, Vampire Hunter D, and Vampire Princess Miyu though. None of which were in the contest - probably for good reason but I like them | 2009-06-02 20:42:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Good to hear Virtually all the Ghibli movies are worth checking out. I'd probably start with Spirited Away, as it had the most commercial success. I really should check out Grave of Fireflies, it sounds awesome. I really liked My Neighbour Totoro, Princess Mononoke and Pom Poko. They all deal with environmental issues, and all manage to leave an emotional impact. Not to mention being incredibly cute.....errr not that I'm into that kinda thing, right? | 2009-06-02 20:49:00 Author: Pitcard Posts: 779 |

I'm so happy :&apos | 2009-06-16 20:49:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Cool! Lookin forward to it. I just saw The Elephant Man! Blew me away. No one could make a film these days about a grotesque monster and make you empathize with him besides David Lynch. It was a horror love film | 2009-06-17 00:05:00 Author: Pitcard Posts: 779 |

I was just thinking the same thing | 2009-07-30 01:07:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
yeh, this game is pretty awesome... although I don't know a lot of these movies. It's still fun to watch the contest. | 2009-10-29 18:22:00 Author: Yarbone Posts: 3036 |
Wow, epic bump, though, before a mod locks...this from Morrin earlier: "Thanks for the kind words and encouragements though, they are well appreciated. Job hunt goes okay but things are tough. I'll be fine though, no worries The movie quiz might continue one day, I'll be sure to keep you posted, brother. Cheers, -M" | 2009-10-29 18:32:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Wow, epic bump, though, before a mod locks... No worries, I won't be locking today even thought it was a legendary thread resurrection. One for the books, certainly. In all seriousness, I was a big fan of this thread before even thought I just dropped by from time to time to have a peek. I'd like to see it come back anytime Morrin would see it fit. | 2009-10-29 19:03:00 Author: supersickie Posts: 1366 |
