Rayman Remake!
Archive: 18 posts
i got rayman 1 yesterday from the PSN store, and i'm literally just picking out different obstacles and decorations that i could make for my levels and then i thought that it'd probably be possible to remake an entire level of this, apart from a few features that lbp doesn't have yet like climbable material I haven't put anything into action yet, but off the top of my head i can think of tons of stuff in this game that could be lbp'erized with a little effort i'm gonna start mapping down a quick prototypy thing and write down anything that could be included.. more importantly i need to know if a rayman level in lbp would actually be fun to those who haven't played it in a while, or have never seen it before i picked out a few random videos YouTube - Rayman PS1 Gameplay Playstation - Allegro Presto level YouTube - Rayman : Pink Plant Woods if you think it's a good idea then you're welcome to help about if you want, and if you think it's a terrible idea then say so, because i don't want to put loads of effort into this and then realise it's not going to work ------ Taken some photos of what i've done so far http://spamtheweb.com/ul/upload/190409/55383_A_Photo_7.jpg ^ the grab switch http://spamtheweb.com/ul/upload/190409/55387_A_Photo_8.jpg ^ what appears when the switch is activated http://spamtheweb.com/ul/upload/190409/55394_A_Photo_10.jpg For some reason the stickers didn't show on this one http://spamtheweb.com/ul/upload/190409/55400_A_Photo_11.jpg | 2009-04-18 21:36:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
It could be fun, it would be cool if you could achieve that organic visual style in LBP. But...how in the world will you achieve the core gameplay mechanics that come to mind when thinking of Rayman, the powergloves and his helicopterhair? | 2009-04-18 22:04:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
i wasn't thinking about adding those, i just thought it'd be fun to remake one of the levels if anything the power gloves could be the paintinator | 2009-04-18 22:22:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
This sounds like a great idea, but as pointed out a lot of aspects would be complex to make | 2009-04-18 22:38:00 Author: Fish94 Posts: 554 |
Awesome idea for a project, I love these retro game remakes. The video's you supplied have given me some creative inspiration =] but I won't steel anything. My favourite game in the series is Rayman 2. That reminds me, I should really re-install it. | 2009-04-18 23:07:00 Author: olit123 Posts: 1341 |

I would love too! But unfortunately I need to finish my two projects at the moment. | 2009-04-18 23:41:00 Author: olit123 Posts: 1341 |
Rayman was awesome! I used to play it everyday when I was much younger. I could never get past the Anguish Lagoon. | 2009-04-19 01:38:00 Author: DanC Posts: 433 |
isn't anguish lagoon the second level? o.o i've rushed a some obstacles and improvised all the ones that worked into a level it sucks but i'll publish it incase you want a look | 2009-04-19 02:27:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
Probably was, I sucked at Rayman. | 2009-04-19 02:32:00 Author: DanC Posts: 433 |
uploaded the demo.. i'll probably leave it up there for a day or 2 while i work on the real thing, don't see much point in leaving it there for long though it's nothing special but it shows you what i have in mind and everything on there is really rushed and untidy, for the final thing i plan on putting a lot of effort into making the stickers look as close to the real thing as i can | 2009-04-19 04:32:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
Great level! It looks and feels just like the original. Can't wait to see the finished version | 2009-04-19 14:24:00 Author: ARD Posts: 4291 |
Yeah, I quite liked this myself! It's been ages since I played the original but that level brought back a lot of memories. Didn't think it was amazing but since you created this in a very short amount of time, I'm really interested to see the finished level!! | 2009-04-19 14:43:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
for the first time while creating i'm actually enjoying myself xD every other time i always choose boring generic themes, and i end up forcing myself to getting things done Now that the real thing's in progress i can tell you that i will be including the powers that rayman gains such as grabbing, flying, shooting etc through sticker switches Depending on how big this level/series is going to be i was going to make it so you had to find Betilla the fairy who gives you a certain power (sticker) in each level. Say the grab sticker i've drawn looks like a hand, and using it will make something appear that you can grab/swing on to reach a certain area. And you'll be able to go back and forth through the levels and use these stickers to unlock harder paths and hidden areas (ultimatly to find the 6 cages hidden in each level) through sticker switches placed throughout them. So far i don't see any problem in doing this, it's pretty much the same as how it works in the game Oh yeah and i've put some photos in the first post | 2009-04-19 15:19:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
I thought about making a Rayman level a while back but decided against it since I couldn't find a decent climbing mechanic. I wish you nothing but good luck in your effort. | 2009-04-20 00:58:00 Author: jedijeff Posts: 33 |
i'm not having any climbing in mine i'm following the levels in the original the best i can, and putting my own challenges in place of area's that can't be done in lbp and i'm expanding on the original design too.. adding my own secret areas that you go through to find the hidden cages | 2009-04-20 01:07:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
You can easily make the illusion of climbing Grab material, and invisible winches thanks to CY! | 2009-04-20 01:50:00 Author: Pinchanzee Posts: 805 |
You can easily make the illusion of climbing Grab material, and invisible winches thanks to CY! i used that for the rocket in that demo that i made not sure it'd work for climbing though unless you only wanted to climb in one direction | 2009-04-20 03:11:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
