SA updates this thread with some slightly more upbeat news...

I suppose the best way to summarize the following turn of events would be to say "Oh **** no" Exactly 2.5 hours ago, when I was in the middle of playing on the PS3, it froze. I tried accessing the menu screen to see if the system was still working, to which it faded like it normally did but no menu items popped up. I tried pressing the PS button again to return to the game, and it turned the system off. Perplexed and mostly confused, I tried turning on the system again, and it greeted me by saying that the "System data was corrupted and it needed to restore the hard drive". I was both shocked and saddened by this turn of events, because I seemed to think it would mean losing much important save data and various other things. Nevertheless, it appeared to be my only option at the time, as it seems that fate is smiling most cruelly at me this day. I apparently didn't know the half of it. The restoration process has a nasty habit of reaching 0%, never moving for about 5 minutes, then the system turns itself off again due to a fatal error. I can't fix the system. I've tried the restore process many times, mostly in a feeble attempt to retain my sanity, but to no avail. My PS3 is dead. Completely dead, with no chance of revival. The only ray of optimism I can pull out of this is that I am still on the warranty (I think). Needless to say, Shining Aquas Review Corner has now been put on "Delayed until further notice" setting, and I will announce the revival of my current system or the acquiring of a new one. Sorry for this unfortunate turn of events. It was clearly out of my control this time. | 2009-04-18 12:24:00 Author: Shining Aquas Posts: 353 |
Aww mate.. sorry that you've got this If it's any consolation.. Trading standards require all products to have a 5 year warranty even if the company says different. | 2009-04-18 12:26:00 Author: CreateNPlay Posts: 1266 |
Wow, SA Reviews are Closed? ...I never thought this day would come. Good luck man, hope you get your ps3 fixed, or get a new one free of charge. | 2009-04-18 13:01:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |
Ouch... That's why I always back up my LBP save (not bothered about other games). | 2009-04-18 14:43:00 Author: ARD Posts: 4291 |
CnP, is that only in Britain though (I seem to remember you being British)? | 2009-04-18 15:59:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Oh **** no.. I had that EXACT same error message a few days ago. Luckily it was able to restore my ps3 and I did lose quite a bit of data, but it sounds like your disk has failed. Sorry man.. | 2009-04-18 16:24:00 Author: DanC Posts: 433 |
Very sorry to hear that mate. I hope you get it sorted soon. My PS3 has frozen up over a dozen times since having this game, something it's never done in the 2+ years i've had it. It froze up completely twice yesterday. I hope that's not an omen !! | 2009-04-18 16:30:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |

Ouch. That's rough. Hopefully, you won't have to cough up another $400 to replace it. | 2009-04-18 17:59:00 Author: Voltiare Posts: 646 |
Ouch. That's rough. Hopefully, you won't have to cough up another $400 to replace it. Wouldn't be able to right now. 'm broke. Might be able to get another by the end of 2 weeks, but the data is gone. | 2009-04-19 05:34:00 Author: Shining Aquas Posts: 353 |
Wait, have you tried using the recovery menu? | 2009-04-19 09:10:00 Author: ARD Posts: 4291 |
Are you referring to any menu that I can reach within the following steps? 1)Turn on System 2)Recieve Intro screen 3)Told to Reformat drive 4)Oh ****, it doesn't work | 2009-04-19 18:17:00 Author: Shining Aquas Posts: 353 |
No, I'm reffering to the recovery menu. Turn off, and hold the power button down. It should beep, and maybe beep some more. Eventually you will get a recovery menu. You might have to try a few times to get it. | 2009-04-19 18:48:00 Author: ARD Posts: 4291 |
Oh ****, that is one of those moments you get very cold on the inside. Geesh .... hope it ain't as bad as it looks right now. | 2009-04-20 08:29:00 Author: Fjonan Posts: 359 |

You might have to try a few times to get it. Tried it, found it, but the system still says it needs to reformat itself to be even workable, and it can't seem to get that far. I'm slightly worried about how this thread's popularity is far exceeding that of most of my recent reviews | 2009-04-20 10:11:00 Author: Shining Aquas Posts: 353 |
Well if the recovery menu can't fix it then your PS3 is but an empty shell of despair. | 2009-04-20 10:43:00 Author: ARD Posts: 4291 |

The hard drive's probably broken. It's easily replaceable, though. I think any 2.5" laptop SATA drive should work. | 2009-04-20 14:19:00 Author: Entity Posts: 274 |
Just stand beside it and hold square to revive it [Not helping?] | 2009-04-20 17:49:00 Author: Pinchanzee Posts: 805 |

Ugh, just use a Phoenix Down. Geez, amateurs!! Seriously now, a shame to hear about your PS3!! This seems to be happening to a lot of people lately.... When I first bought my PS3, it came with a broken hard disk. I traded it in for a new system but on this one I have also received that infamous message. Luckily the recovery menu did the trick for me without any loss of data. | 2009-04-20 18:36:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
UPDATE: PS3 is now made of win again! Yay! It needed to be replaced so all my LBP data got erased, so I have to go stage-hunting again for all my stuff back. Need that 100% again. Anyways, although my PS3 is back on it's feet, the internet at my house is being strangely unbearable. It turns itself on and off at random moments now, so SA review corner isn't 100% back up to snuff yet, more like about 35% up. If I can hold the internet long enough to play through the level and write up a review, I will. | 2009-04-28 03:19:00 Author: Shining Aquas Posts: 353 |
