Was Yarg really worth it?

Archive: 52 posts

For me, Yarg has brought more bugs and problems than it has solved.
Ok, we got a music player - but all it means is that I can listen to music while I'm waiting an extra 5 or ten minutes for a level to load
I do like the new "visible" option on bolts, pistons etc. but it's not much use when the game keeps crashing because you place one object in your level

So what do you think? Have you had lots of problems with Cornish Yarg or has very little changed for you?

I had little problems with yarg, tho I never use the music player.

Ive been waiting for this update since 1.07 killed my account, levels, self created objects and even ripped the clothes of my sackboy.

I waited anxiously for each update, maybe that one could fix everything, but no.
now CY is out, it didnt fix anything for me, and my levels are still borked.
Ive send my levels to MM, Send them whole lists with bugs and so on,
but nothing, no responce, no solution, just more bugs.

And therefore, this might be my last post.
Im quiting.

everybody can say whatever they want,
but all these bugs, mistakes and every update having new problems makes me look totally different at MM than I did in the first few months.

This game sucks, and is totally ruined by all the updates.
MM didnt do a good job, and their amateuristic way of solving problems and keeping bugs in updates make me think that they are a bunch of amateurs with good idea's that released a game that hasnt been finished, and never will be fixed.

Im going to the store where I baught this game and gonna ask my money back.

Goodbye guys.

Well, to each his own. Yes, Yarg brought some issues - it broke at least 1 level of mine that I had to do some tweaks to, but it's an awesome update that has added many really cool features, and for the most part has not been problematic. I'm sure the irritating issues will be fixed soon enough.2009-04-18 12:37:00

Just be glad you can play LBP; even if there are bugs

Also anyone got a video of that decoration mode? Haven't seen it nor do i really know what it does.

It's pretty simple, and AWESOME!
Press R1 and you get a side view of the sack boy - tap again and you see his back.
It works really well, and I enjoy using it even though I'm not big on costumes

Remember you need to have a sticker selected and it will only work when the screen zoomed in on your sackboy
+ only works in play or create mode, not in the pod

That's something they really should have added, the zoom mode in your pod.

I haven't had any problems at all with Yarg. I use the music player everytime I play. Levels take slightly longer to load, but I'm not really bothered by that.2009-04-18 14:35:00

The only issue I've had is that sometimes when I quit or restart a level I get a screen like the loading screen, except the icon is a globe, and it says' Preloading game resources' for a few seconds.
Anyone else getting this?

Yes, everyone seems to be getting that message everytime you do something from the pod. That was suppossed to speed up the game, instead, it just slows us down. >.<2009-04-18 14:42:00

I doubt that's an issue. Sounds to me that this message was there from the very beginning, just that loading is kind of slow now...2009-04-18 14:43:00

No, it's never been there before.
Maybe it's a replacement for the white screen, so you know your PS3 is actually doing something now.

I don't have this message guys. And ALL my loading and publishing is way faster than before.

The only annoyance the update did bring is that it worsen the flickering problem of stickers for me. When you have tons on screen or a very large one, it can now flicker FULL SCREEN instead of "in parts" like before. Anyways, hard to describe and not game breaking but it's **** annoying.

I think slow servers is just because lots of people are republishing their levels with invisible connections. That should go away in a few days.

I haven't noticed any other issues with Yarg, just the additional features that I knew were coming.

I just saw this message last night while playing with two other players. It kicked me from my friends pod, then I got that preloading game resources message then it brought me back to my pod. First time I've seen it.

Also had 5 costumes - all on the left side of the menu strangely enough - go all red exclamation point on me too.

i understand your frustration, but there isn't really a need to sell it unless you weren't too keen on the game in the first place

if it's just the bugs that are annoying you then play a different game and wait until they're patched.. Leerdammer and the creator pack are coming soon, either one could contain some fixes

if you didn't like the game to begin with though, i guess there's nothing stopping you

Not to brag or anything either, but I've had no problems whatsoever with CY. There's still a problem with an old bug, but I haven't seen any new ones, and I have been creating hardcore this past week. Sorry to hear about those having problems.2009-04-18 20:38:00

Couldn't you just ride it out till they fix it..? You'll not get much for it now seeing it's like ?15 at some shops
Maybe start a new online profile for LBP and see if its your profile that's bugged...?

CY corrupted my save data but not my game data. So for some reason, i could always load my game by opting for "loading the game from the game data back up option"

But its annoying that everytime i load LBP, i always have to load from the game data. I hope that Creator pack 1 fixes this issue when it comes.

I'm happy with it, apart from the fact that magnetic and sensor switches scale back to their default size when you detach them.. really annoying! By the way, did anyone notice that they managed to do something about not being able to modify community objects? I don't know how good those are protected now, but I got into some trouble with some switches someone built to give away. Couldn't take them apart anymore.2009-04-19 00:04:00

Yep, I got this one too - along with slow loading times and constant freezing!

I have to agree.

If it was some major horrible bug in the patch, as in JUST the patch itself causing the issues, everyone would be having said issues. Particularly those of us that spend a bit too much time doing this, lol.

I myself have not had any issues at all, and it seems that neither have various others.

Dont freak out and give up because of some bugs. LBP is a huge, complex program; probably a good deal more complex than many other games. It's definitely bound to have some bugs in it. And people make mistakes.

I see this sort of thing all the time with MMOs, a patch will come out and then there's like a zillion pages of pure whining on the boards for the game, cause such and such bug is happening and OF COURSE it cant be MY computer, THEY must have screwed up!

Not trying to be too negative here, but flipping out and quitting will solve absolutely nothing.

And really, MM is a good team; once they're aware of any problems Yarg might have caused, they'll start immediately on fixing them.

Indeed.

The only bug I'm aware of is one that aer0blue told me about, apparantly some goofy thing with Dissolve getting funky sometimes after a rewind; Im SURE that'll manage to nearly drive me insane later on, but it's just a bug, and will be dealt with soon enough. And it's not THAT big a deal, really, just sort of a mild annoyance. These other horrible game obliterating bugs, I havent had them happen. Everything works fine for me. Seems to me MM did a fine job.

Just gotta be a bit patient sometimes, lol.

The dissolving thing with rewind happened to me too.
I rewinded one more time and it was always solved.

Sometimes it happens that ALL the glued part in my level (though they are not glued all together) unglues with no apparent reason (after a rewind or a fast forward).

Did you noticed that with CY all the pistons wich minimum extension was previously set to 0 have been automatically flagged with invisible (this has not happened with winches)?

I was used to be unable to see invisible pistons in edit mode, but with CY I see them all the time; I guess they applied the same algorithm switches had to pistons and winches...

They promised the invisibility for joint structure (motors, rods, etc...) in the creator pack 1 but since I downloaded CY they are yet available to me...

So... I'm satisfied with CY and (crossed fingers) I've had no issues at all (until now...)

Yarg destroyed my level I have been working on!!!

Ever since it has came out, the thermo on my level keeps going up for no reason...

Then I deleted everything in my level and searched if everything was gone and the level's thermo was still two bars from the top

This started with 1.07 that came around the 20th of december.
now its almost the 20th of april.

My limit is reached.

Dont get me wrong, besides some personal arguements with the controller setup and character movement LBP rocks.. no.. even better.. its a wonderfull concept, but the "updates" totally ruined the experience for me, Ive noticed that after 1.12 two of my allready published levels got borked..

Ive allready created a new account, but after stresstesting the moon (filled all craters with a maxed out level) there are still problems ive come across on this forum.

I fear that no update will ever make lbp stable,
or at least from my point of view, reliable enough to put any efford into it.
So im not going to.

So yea.. This will be my last post for now.
Might see you guys again when a new lbp is released for the ps3 or who knows.. the ps4.

For now Ill focuss on photography, storywriting and lots of "rants" on how to improve certain games.

Ill see you guys on the flipside

What's sad Luoc is that from December to know you could have erase and redone everything like 3 or 4 times in a row if you'd like. But you chose to stay there and be negative with things instead of moving up. It's sad that you leave me thinks.

I'm still waiting for some of the younger LBP players to make levels with nohing but a million grabbable items connected to invisible connectors. It's a curse in of itself.

I don't think there's anything wrong with them, he's just saying people will abuse it. He's right.... but I don't think they can only create tools that people won't abuse. You can abuse ANYTHING.

I mean, sure - when some people get a hold of the environment object we'll see the environment change constantly with no good reason - but it will be fantastic for those of use that will use it to change the mood in appropriate spots.

I'm looking forward to updating Splat Invaders Saga to have the environment change when they enter the reactor core.

By the way, to completely answer the initial question for this thread:

Yes! It's worth it!

While there seem to be mixed results, most of us don't really have issues. I would update no worries. If you really fear the update you might want to back up your save game or something.
