Rate the Fact Above You!

Archive: 71 posts

Well hallo all! This game is simple...

Someone post's a fact that can be to do with anything. You rate it and find another one from a book or the TV or the interwebz! Or you can just post one that you already know. = D

I shall start the ball rolling...

Coffee drinkers have sex more frequently than non-coffee drinkers.

Now you rate it and post another one.

7/10, because weird creepy facts about my countries monarchs are too abundant.

In June 2001, a 10-year-old Staffordshire girl wrote her name on a tag, attached it to a helium balloon, and released it. It floated 140 miles to Wiltshire and came to rest in the garden of another girl.

Both girls were named Laura Buxton, both were 10 years old, both are fair-haired, and each owns a black female Labrador, a guinea pig, and a rabbit.

India resident Sanju Bhagat always had bit larger stomach, but he got extremely worried when it suddenly started growing bigger and bigger. Thirty year old Sanju Bhagat was rushed to hospital and his stomach condition was diagnosed as an stomach tumor. To a doctor's surprise it was something extremely different and very unusual. From the birth Sanju had his twin brother living inside of him like a parasite. This phenomenon is extremely rare since parasite twin brother has to survive by leaching on its brother?s blood supply. This bizarre medical conditions is called fetus in fetu and it occurs when a fetus gets trapped inside of its twin. Doctor Mehta who was operating Sanju Bhagat said: "First, one limb came out, then another limb came out. Then some part of genitalia, then some part of hair, some limbs, jaws, limbs, hair." Now that is a scary fact, I wouldn't be surprised if somebody rated it low

10/10 as a fact, 1/10 for the mental image of the extraction

"In late 1999 four women's bras appeared on a wire fence in southern New Zealand. That's innocent enough, but by February the number had grown to 60. In October it reached 200, and by the following February nearly 800.

Why? Who knows? The local council waited until September to clear the fence ? by which time it had accumulated more than 1,500 bras."

When you're invisible you're also blind.
Invisibility doesn't work. Even if it would be possible to be invisble, you won't be able to stalk people, and doing all sorts of cool stuff. We see by light being reflected into our eyes onto our retines (I believe that's the word...not sure tho) and if we're invisible light goes trough us. Therefore we would be blind if we were invisible

Ducks quacks actually do echo. The difference between when it quacks outside and in a area where sounds echo is only slight; due to the shape of the duck's beak it always sounds as if it's echoing slightly, because technically it is. It was on Mythbusters. So 6/10, you still get a high rating for bothering to find those facts even if they were condensed.

In a typical Powerball lottery drawing, there are four or five second-place winners.

On March 30, 2005, there were 110.

Officials suspected fraud at first, but it turned out that most of the winners had received the same mass-produced fortune cookie, which listed five of the six winning numbers.

The coincidence cost the lottery association $19 million.

Sharks become paralyzed if tipped upside down.Orca whales have apparently figured this out. They kill sharks by pushing them up to the surface and then flipping them upside down by their tails! Then when the shark is upside down, the orca will eat it!

7/10 delicious Orca meal...

The pistol shrimp uses it's claw to stun other creatures from a distance by using it as a sonic weapon. When snapping it's claw it creates a cavitation bubble that produces a sound as loud as 218 decibels. This bubble can also produce sonoluminescence which happens when the bubble collapses (ie. gives off light). When the bubble collapses it also produces temperatures of up to 4700 degrees Celsius.
