Disable Glueing/sticking?

Archive: 10 posts

Right, so currently I'm making a level that requires small bits of material blocks to be put really close together but not stick onto each other....

But because their so close together LBP thinks i want them to be stuck onto each other, but i don't want that.

Is there a way to disable sticking? It's reallying annoying having to deattach every little peice of block from everything else and also somtimes screws up all the other blocks that are supposed to be stuck together >.<

Is there a way of disabling/turning off the sticking function in LBP?

Hi and welcome snowyjoe.

There is no way to turn it off as far as I know but i'm not sure why you're having that problem. I usually have trouble the other way around i.e. when I want to glue things together it sometimes takes ages to get it to do it because you have to push the object you want to glue into position and hold it for a second or two until you hear the glueing sound.

If you move your object into position but don't apply pressure and let it go quickly enough it won't glue it. Alternatively if you are using the grid you can always put your object a little bit above the position you want it where it isn't touching anything and then unpause so that it simply drops into position. Just be careful to keep an eye on everything else so that nothing changes that you don't want to.

Try those anyway and I hope that helps. Let me know and feel free to ask about anything else. You'll soon find there are lots of great people on here who are willing to help and a lot of them know the more technical stuff that I don't.

Godd Luck.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Sorry i need to reword my question.

Is there a way not to overley objects with materials?

Like for example:

I have a object (let's say a bunny), and i want to make a box around it as close as possible.
But by using the grid i can't do curvey areas like the ears,so i try free hand. But when i get too close the material overleys on the bunny and the bunny's ears are stuck onto the object.
When i deattach the bunny from the material around it, it first deattaches the whole platform I'm working on and my whole level falls :'(

Is there a way to stop material from sticking into other objects?

You could try building the bunny away from the cube (this way you could build it bigger which will make it easier to add detail) then copy the bunny and move it inside your box. Before placing it, shrink the bunny down so it clearly doesn't touch any sides of the box/cube then place it. Now select the bunny again and expand it...it will expand while still acting as a physical object which means it will stop when it hits the sides of the box/cube. Also when the bunny is nearly filling the box try giving it a little wiggle by moving it slightly so you really get the full size. The resizing should be done with no grid by the way.
Also just a quick note but if you want the bunny to move inside the box (say on a piston or motor bolt or *gasp* a wobble bolt!) then make the bunny slightly smaller then filling the whole box, doesn't need to be much, just a gap between the box and the bunny. This is so friction doesn't occur between the objects and mess up your moving. I frequently find this a problem, I feel LBP's physics aren't quite right in this area
Good luck!

Thanks for the advice guys! I'll try making my object away from everything and then moving it again.

Making a level in littlebigplanet would be SOOOOO much easier if there was a 3D camera that did 360 rotation around your level :'(

Snowyjoe, use the corner editing tool! Definitely the easiest way.

You can push vertices of your object right up so they're touching another object, and no matter how hard you push, they won't meld/stick!

Just draw a rough outline, and then pull the corners in. Easy as.

Corner editing tool is the first tool in your "Goodies Bag".

Thanks for the spam Sawron xD

And it took me a while to find the corner editing tool as well. Be wary of the bugs though, sometimes it won't let you move certain vertices.

Wasn't a spam - and I hate that glitch. (xD)
Glad to hear the problem was solved though
