Does "Level Comment Spam" Work?

Archive: 16 posts

If you're desperate for level plays, the first thing you think of doing is spamming "play.my.lvl.h4h" everywhere, right? Does it work?
For the sake of curiosity, I decided to ask everyone for plays on one of my levels.

These are the results:
I commented on 6 levels in the "Busiest" page and left that sitting for an hour. When I came back, my level went from 80 plays to 95 plays...
Then I commented on 4 more levels on the front page. I'll leave that overnight.

So, currently, no. It may work, but for now this spamming is just annoyance.

Dunno about spamming but my levels picked up in play counts after I left people with feedback or just positive messages.

I never click on the spam comments, but then there are so many things that I don`t do that the causal majority do, eh, do.

Spamming and H3H comments are the plague. I will purposedly never play your level if you actually do it to me.

The best way to have plays is to republish or publish again on a new spot. I republish my level and this gives AT LEAST 10 plays a day.

With a new level you can make like 5000 plays if you republish madly enough during the first 7 days.

Something tells me that spam doesn't really work. In fact, it kinda ticks me off when i see TRY_MY_LVL_H4HPALOOZA@@@ spammed everywhere. The only levels i play like that are serious requests.
What i am currently trying to do (though i doubt it will even work XD) is make a level specifically FOR those annoying comments. I spend a lot of my time doing things like browsing these forums to find terrific levels (so far its worked ), so i decided to make a level for anyone who wants to make an ad for one of their levels, and show everyone else how great it is. Only time will tell if the idea will catch on- or if it will get more than 3 people to play it

That's a pretty good idea from Burnvictim. I remember an advertising level that got to the "cool levels" pade, I played it but still didn't bother with thier other levels....
But I like to find hidden gems, so I often play H4H's levels - and sometimes they actually have some good levels, I think out of about 10 I've played the average rating I gave was a 3 star and one heart.

I was going to do something similar, I'd just show worthwhile level makers so you'd go in and it'd be like a raffle but no matter what name came up it would be a good one.

If the comment is constructive to my level, or polite, then yes I play them. Some people spam your level up to 5 times a day with the same comment, that winds me up, you've filled my comments with spam and you expect me to play your level?? If people leave a comment (not H4H) then I go and play thiers and return the favour.

The last level I published got 13000 plays in a week, most of the comments are pure rubbish and not worth a light. Its annoying filtering the good ones out where people have taken the time to play and say something good or useful. People should not be allowed to comment until they have finished the level. This would seriously cut the spam down

I totally agree with Matt 82, RangerZero, and GrantosOK - Make really nice, useful comments on peoples level with no strings attached and there is a greater chance they will check out your creations - and if you want some additional plays, slightly improve your level and republish it.

I actually found some fantastic levels by drilling down on a good comment - I found a nice message on one of my levels by Matt 82 (before he was a member), went in to check out what he had created - and spent several hours in a HUGE collection of really fun levels.

I've only ever asked a stranger to try a level of mine once, and that was after leaving good and honest feedback. What bugs me though is when people try and do this but fail miserably. Observe:

cool. play_my_lvls_thnx

Okay, here's what I do instead. Upon seeing this comment I happily delete it and laugh really loud. Hahahaha! Then I find that the person hasn't actually played my level or hearted it, they just commented to advertise their level, thus making me laugh even harder until I find myself punching things violently and kicking my cat...Hahahaha!

But really, why bother? It only makes people not want to play your level, and I sure as Hell don't want to either. I also think that no advertising and positive feedback (as suggested by RangerZero) is always best. The only people which I would tolerate in terms of asking for plays would be you guys 'cause I know your levels are good.

And anyway, the real thing is to have fun making your levels. Eventually people will discover your levels inner beauty (especially if you post it on these forums XD)2009-04-15 22:53:00

Hey everyone, play my levels! XD
Jk, you can if you feel like it.
Bu i indeed hate and won't play thos levels on purpose, i also delete anyone spamming that in my levels.
Don't know why they do it, just makes it seem like their level(s) suck and are desperate for plays.

I hate H4H's

What is up with all the comments with full stops in them? Seriously? Is it so hard to put a space in there?

nice.plz.try.my.lvl.awsumland.h4h.thx

I hate all of those!

the reason theres no space, is because as a single word they can just type the first two letters, and use predictive text to finish the rest. Lazy, i know. >.>2009-04-16 04:16:00

I don't see the point really, the only audience you will get with those type of comments are H4H'ers and that's only because they will heart your level in return for a heart, and I'm not even sure if they do that, which is really sad!

Some stuff I find on my level is just fun humor, which I don't mind at all, like this:

Lol, I got on today, and someone uploaded a picture on my level, it's actually very funny.

The picture showed a dude, standing next to a bunch of letters he stuck onto a wall, and it spelled out "Sharks eat Whales Lol"

I had a good laugh, weird thing is I don't know who took the picture, no name comes up on the bottom.

Was it one of YOU guys!?

Nope, not much of a picture person ;p

I think its also funny how much attention a lot of those people give to their comments. I once had a guy comment on my level about a H4H- i checked his profile and saw he'd already hearted me. Because i didn't want a H4H situation, i left a (VERY) long message on his level, saying i wasn't interested, please un heart me, etc. Then i commented on his level, just for the heck of it. Long story short, its several weeks later, and he still hasn't unhearted my level
