From Siberia With Love Pt.5: WovenEye and Warheads (with pics and vid) SPOTLIGHTED!!!

Archive: 52 posts

From Siberia With Love Pt.5: WovenEye and Warheads by GruntosUK

I have finally finished the Siberia saga and published the new level. Its taken 2 more parts and 3 months longer than I had originally planned but its finally complete. Heres is the description from the level.

Now that the SSA are aware that WovenEye is not located at Dr. Cloths hidden base, 0013 has one mission, stop the Nuclear Launch. But will he have to actually help further Dr. Cloths plans to succeed?

This level is mainly another puzzler, with some platforming and shooting sections to fill in the gaps. I've playtested the level, and think I've gotten everything, but my eyes are burning, and I'm sick of the sight of the level

Thanks to Vanemeira for the amazing trailer!!

Thanks to xkappax, HardSync, Blizzard_Cool, Cuz_Feeshe, ARD94, Vanemiera and TameTurtle for playtesting. Special thanks to Hardsync for his lift mechanism and Maraz_Matari for his talking tool (which I have used in all of my levels, its been in-valuable).

As always I will do any F4F that comes my way. Have fun!

Just played it - great job once again, and a fantastic (and slighting LittleBigShocking) end to a terrific series.

I sent you the couple minor quibbles I had on a few PSN messages, so just wanted to come on here and say congrats on another great level.

just started playing through the series and from the looks of it these levels are amazing xD

i struggle to complete one level, it amazes me that someone can do 5 really good levels with the same theme

congrats on completing the series anyway

Lol thanks cubbage, I'll check out your messages in a bit.

The ending was supposed to have a boss, but the thermo wouldn't allow it. And I couldn't face another level in the series using the same materials etc. I decided on the current one to fit it in, and try and suprise a little

Thanks for taking the time to play it

Thankyou Lord!!! Finally!!!

Now WTF didn't I test this level?

Anyway, I've been looking foward to this level, you are one of my favourite creators, simply because everything is clean, but not so OMG FREAKING EPIC like Azure Palace or Abyss (no-offence Gevurah22 and Jaeyden) which I am getting sick of.

+Great Visuals, very busy, very tidy.

+Nice, simple turret action to start

+Hilarious Background sticker

+Solid Platforming, Brilliant Visuals again.

+Nice puzzle with Oxygen/Hydrogen etc.

+ Shooting Switches = fun

- What would happen if I went up on the elevator and died before I got a checkpoint? Thought I'd see if you'd thought about this, and got stuck! Put a checkpoint on the elevator?

+ I liked the one eyed enemy, and it was refreshing to jump of electricity that was spinning, small but effective

- Swinging on sponge section? What happened? Run out of thermo and still have space to fill?

+ Warhead looks cool, but I think some better blast sound effects would be nice!

- The bit straight to the right after firing the warhead, the camera makes it hard to see the gas and the sponge. Lower the player/tracking part of the camera zone.

+ Cool plot twist

- The stairs are a bit awkward, maybe make the steps bigger, or use a ramp?

- The top stairs by the woven eye launch control aren't glued down. They are small, and only have a couple of steps.

- When you have destroyed the nuke, and you go to the left, climb a bit, and there is a switch on the right, when you press it a speech bubble with ****** appears, dunno if you just wanted to bring my attention to the object, but I figure you might have written happened

- Like the ending

DEFINATELY make the mexico mission lol.

Overall, easily 5 stars and hearted. Your architechture is constantly brilliant. The only realy flaw is you can get stuck at almost any elevator! I got the 3rd highest score so far! I beat you

NOW LET ME PLAYTEST YOUR NEXT LEVEL lol!

That was a beautiful and amazing finale to a great series!

The visuals in this level were great as usual, and really brought the level to life. The entire buildings architecture was magnificent, and it looked really cool! (Made me want to live there ) As usual your puzzles were great and original, and took some brains. The absolute best thing about your levels is the back-tracking! You go passed here to there, and once you did that, here has changed, allowing you to progress! It's also amazing as you are going up the really tall elevators to reach the top, and as you do, you can see some parts of the level that you already passed! Amazing! I liked your robot turret sentry thing, but I think you could of done with several more turrets, like in the MGS pack. It got repetitive defeating the same robot over and over. You easily know when it will shoot, and its pattern. If you had several robots that would be avoided and allow for some cool turrets and gameplay! I liked the ending, (Except it would have been better with a boss battle ) and it gave your character a good reason to hate Dr. Cloth, and another reason to go make the Mexico levels!

There were only two glitches I noticed during my play; When I was at the base of the Warhead and had to use the 'get everyone inside before you go up because this is a one way elevator' elevator, I went in, bumped the switch, which threw me slightly up, and out of the small window. Then the elevator went up, and didn't come down. A same thing happened at another part, but that elevator came back up. (Which was really cool!) And, finally, after you activate WovenEye and go to the left, theres something that activates the platforms to come down, and when they do a speech bubble appears. That speech bubble is censored.

Overall it was an amazing level, and totally deserves 5 stars and a heart! Good job!

For F4F I don't really need any feedback, but it would be cool if you could read my story 'The Unknown' (Link is in my signature) and give me feedback on it. Hopefully that isn't breaking any F4F rules, as you are giving me feedback in return.

Oh, btw, F4F:

Morgana25 and I are working on a level, called "Le Grande Jardin". She is making the characters, I'm making the level. Anyway, I'd appreciate it if you wanna play it, it is locked, so play my "Le Grande Jardin" key level, password is 822431, from left to right.

Please PM me with feed back, here or PSN. Anybody else who wants to can play it too, but I'd appreciate you at least let me know if you play it!

Cheers.

Well, it seems someone on GameFAQS managed to skip out a good 3/4's of the level on his second playthrough, just before the ending, I've blocked off the route to stop it happening again.

@Ccubbage

I got your mails, i've slowed down the lift but it still happens, the game automatically shifts to the foreground if you're not holding on, the lift does return though, any help anyone has on this would be appreciated.

And the speech bubbles are fixed, it was that foul word "opened", I must wash my mouth out.

@xkappax

I've also seen your comment and pictures on the level, I've reduced the size of the viruses and had a play around, everything seemed fine.

@dkjestrup

- What would happen if I went up on the elevator and died before I got a checkpoint? Thought I'd see if you'd thought about this, and got stuck! Put a checkpoint on the elevator?

I've got a mechanism to stop this, designed by HardSync, I can't get it work as well as him yet, but am working on it, it makes them return to their start once the player leaves, this will stop the problem, once I get it to work as well as him

- Swinging on sponge section? What happened? Run out of thermo and still have space to fill?

Out of ideas at the time, I but them in as a place holder so I could test the level layout, then built "something" out of them, so left them in place

- The bit straight to the right after firing the warhead, the camera makes it hard to see the gas and the sponge. Lower the player/tracking part of the camera zone.

I forgot about this in the edit I have just done, I don't want to fill up comments with "republished" all in a row so I've wrote it down to remember for tomorrow.

- The stairs are a bit awkward, maybe make the steps bigger, or use a ramp?

- The top stairs by the woven eye launch control aren't glued down. They are small, and only have a couple of steps.

I'm leaving the stairs, sorry, I have glued down the ones you mentioned though so thats fixed.

See above for the moderated speech bubbles

I'm going to get to your level in a little while tonight.

@Cog

It got repetitive defeating the same robot over and over. You easily know when it will shoot, and its pattern. If you had several robots that would be avoided and allow for some cool turrets and gameplay!

I agree, the turrets were added in quite late in the process (about 50%), I just managed to scrape the thermo and add a few more, the level was boring without them. I'll take your advice for the next levels I create though, adding anything as major as that now would be impossible

I liked the ending, (Except it would have been better with a boss battle)

Thats was the initial plan, the end was going to be tied into the boss battle, but I had no thermo, and did'nt want to create another level in the series.

When I was at the base of the Warhead and had to use the 'get everyone inside before you go up because this is a one way elevator' elevator, I went in, bumped the switch, which threw me slightly up, and out of the small window. Then the elevator went up, and didn't come down

Theres a reason for the elevator not coming back down, it kept getting stuck and squelching (the door got jammed). Also the door is on there for a reason, it stops you getting out to find things you should'nt find easily I'll see if I can fix this.

Then the elevator went up, and didn't come down. A same thing happened at another part, but that elevator came back up. (Which was really cool!)

You can thank HardSync for that (as I mentioned above), its his mechanism, he let me copy his test level so I could take a look at it. It needs him to have a look because it does'nt quite work as well as his, it also needs adding to the other lifts as well.

And the speech is fixed.

I'll have a read of your story, no problem

Thanks everyone for playing and leaving feedback, I've mixed the minor problems and will take a look at the larger ones tomorrow

Try starting the lift a bit higher instead of just slowing it down. The issue seems to happen on the initial "bump" when the lift starts up. This used to happen in one of my levels until I made the floor start a bit higher.2009-04-15 01:39:00

I've done that, and it worked a treat, I've had to modify the room a little but its worked. Thanks Cubbage.

I've also fixed the camera view you mentioned Dkjestrup, I'll get round to your level tomorrow now, its 2.41am here and I'm tired.

The level is re-published with the new fixes included .

I really loved it. I seriously think this is the best one yet. I had some trouble getting through parts in the other ones, but this one was just a whole lot of fun to me. I only found one secret though. I thought I broke the one puzzle (the one with the viruses) because I got the one circle wedged in between the two cradles, but then I ended up somehow getting it out of there. Man, if anyone's gonna break a level, it's going to be me. or Hardsync. ^_^2009-04-15 03:16:00

I played it last night and it's a fantastic end to the Siberia series! Looks great - plays great too. Not as tricky as some of the previous levels imo but still very entertaining. I felt so bad at the end when you have to do what you have to do to get out of the level. I looked at Silverleon and was like "ahhh - didn't mean to do that!"

Only issue Silverleon and I found was on the bridge before the nuke area (I think it's there) You have a small bit of floor extending out in the second plane of the level that if you run from that plane to the left to get on the bridge, it drops you to the bridge support bar and you're stuck. Pretty minor but both Silverleon and I managed to do it. (He's a fantastic playtester btw if anyone is looking for one.)

I only managed to find 3 secrets the first time though so I'll have to play it again!

Nice work! 5 stars & a heart from me!

btw - I'd love to see a Mexican series too. These are great levels.

Fixed with a small sliver of Dark Matter. Thanks Morgana

Just as a side note, I've left the level to its own devices this time around, only republishing for bug fixes and little changes, the results, not hit Cool Levels, 73 plays and 22 hearts.

I'm fairly dissapointed to say the least, I've had very little plays and not much feedback either. Makes you a little down hearted

I'll give it a try over the week see what happens, I'll do it every hour from now on. I published it at 6pm/7pm two days ago so will know tomorrow I guess.

I go know that it is 300 plays to 30 hearts to make it stick page 5/6 though, thats what happened with part 4.

I just played all the levels in this series, and I think they're all awesome! I'll write about pt.5 though. I think this one is the best in the series, it's a great finale! I love the enemies, the platforming, and all that backtracting you do is great as well. The puzzles are ingenious and great, I loved the rainbow colour one and the oxygen ones! The ending was great too, it's a nice plot twist and it gives you another reason to want to defeat dr.cloth.

Overall I give this level 5 stars and a heart. Please make a Mexico series to make the story continue!

About the F4F thing could you please leave some feedback on my level called: "Journey through the dragon's dojo"? The thread on my level will be quite hard to find though, it hasn't gotten any replies and has fallen quite deep in the level showcase forum.

Just finished playing the series and it was awesome!!

Do you work as an architect or something, because the way the levels were designed was brilliant. Everything always seems to fit together perfectly, and i think it's great when the lifts take you past areas that you've been to before

The obstacles were all really good too. There was a lot of them that i hadn't seen before or has some sort of unique twist.

For some reason though part 5 didn't seem as flawless as the other levels though, and after playing part 4 it didn't seem anywhere near as atmospheric. I'm not quite sure why i didn't like this part as much.. maybe i'm just getting tired.
It's understandable if you were running a little dry on ideas or rushed to get the series out of the way, but it didn't stop it from being a great level.

After playing these i can honestly say that you're my favourite creator, really look forward to your future levels.

Oh yeah and i got stuck behind the checkpoint right near the end, shouldn't be too hard to fix

Seeing that somebody has to take the top position on the scoreboard until Thommy is back in the game, I figured I might as well volunteer.

For me, this one is up there with my favourites from the series, parts 1 and 2. I can't put my finger on it but it's probably the pacing that makes it work so well. The lift sections that let you lean back and take in the architecture with all its elaborate nooks and crannies play their part in that, but it's also the way in which you can approach secrets, obstacles and fights in your own pace and fashion.

Speaking of which, I liked it that you could take down the secret computer up high to the right of the bridge - log entry C, I believe - from below, and was disappointed to find you put an invisible wall into place to prevent that This new wall also has consequences for the achievable score.

Other than that, the secrets are fun to sort out and just the right difficulty - if anything, there are too few of them.

The little "drama section" at the end of the level works better for me than a boss fight would.

The only things worth criticizing are speling errors in the text bubbles, and - once again - the overwhelming amount of text bubbles and their intrusive nature. You know that in all of Siberia, I've been clamouring for an "expert mode" switch turning off all story-related magic mouths for a long time, and I'll happily grasp this opportunity to continue ranting about this pet peeve of mine.

I don't see you running dry on ideas at all, Grant - what I think this level shows is a gifted creator at ease, putting together a string of plays and variations on existing themes, but also of new ideas, resulting in a genuinely original and fun package.

Thanks turtle, it was nice to get the series completed, and move onto different things. I added the DM to the warhead section because people were falling off and landing on the bridge supports.

I've played this several times through, and I can highly recommend Woveneye and Warheads. It's got great visuals, varied gameplay which nicely mixes action with puzzle solving, and with secret areas to find too. It's clear the creator put a huge effort into making this level a fluid and rewarding gameplay experience.2009-04-17 22:01:00

Ok you know how I roll (LOL) just gonna type as I play...

1st impression: Great design (as always)

Your hidden goodies always makes it more fun to play!
Tricky but satisfying platform elements.
1st puzzle really cool.
Really like the interactivity of your puzzles and you really use space well.
Very cool process with the the whole nuke warhead.
I fell much better lead around this time, not as lost.
Got so wrapped up I forgot to look for the 4 hidden buttons.
Excellent plot twist!

What can I say...I loved it!
For me of your series parts 1 & 5 are the best!
That doesn't mean I didn't love 2, 3, and 4.

I felt this was put together very well. I only found 1 secret but thats because I was so into the story!

Another triumph!

Looking forward to Mexico...I'll pack my shades!

5 stars and Hearted!

No I'm a joiner/carpenter. I wish I had as much fun and took as much care and effort constructing or building things in my usual day job (currently unemployed) as I do in LBP.

Can you write a level creation guide Gruntos? I'm sure you have some sort of trick to making levels flow like this lol.

Honestly, there really is nothing to tell, apart from what Cubbage said and that i'm really smart . Everything is pretty much rough when its first created, big gaps in the level etc. I start off with a basic plan and work from there. Anyone who wants to test the levels is more than welcome, send me a FR on PSN, you can see the process yourselves then

No! You're completely wrong! He comes from the same CIA Factory and Jaeyden and Donkey Show!

I was raised in a test tube for the very purpose of creating LBP levels did'nt you all know? At least thats what I tell my wife when I'm on the PS3 again, does'nt seem to wash though

A big thanks to everyone that played the level and left me feedback, and thanks to
Cubbage and Morgana for the spotlight.

The level is still open for F4F by the way, hearing what people have to say is always good.
