Sea waves effect?
Archive: 5 posts
Anybody got an ideas on how I can make a good water effect? As in just a scenic thing for on a boat. I made an emitter one which looked pretty cool, but it killed my thermo on the empty level instantly.. I'm looking for something playfully realistic - ie it looks like sea, but it's not trying too hard Anybody got any tips? All help much appreciated | 2009-04-14 17:27:00 Author: Pinchanzee Posts: 805 |
Maybe like the one on the 2008 Sony Presentation made using LBP? Just some static waves that are basically circles cut out of the top of a rectangle, rotating and rising and falling (maybe wobble bolted onto a material which is attached to a rotating circle?)? That looked good. | 2009-04-14 17:33:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
I've done a few different ones. In Dante's temple I have a back and front thin layers slowly going up and down, with 2 thin layers with cut circles slowly going left and right, then blue gas in between the thin layers. Kind of a cool effect. You can go in and take a look at it if you like - there's practically NO challenge getting up to it. In Jacques the Acadian Warlord I have a dock area, where there is glass with blue gas, and then light shining up through the bottom which gives it an eery still water effect. | 2009-04-14 17:37:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |

I used the same technique as Ccubbage on Unhearted: Drakes Misfortune. I used two thin layers of blue glass (more if you need it), cut out the top to look like waves or ripples. They move up and down on pistons at different times to give the effect of movement. I added blue gas in between (i wanted it lethal) and then blue lights just under the waves to give out a blue light. You can then use some fish and things stuck on the front to add to the effect. Stickering the glass with the blue scribble sticker (the gradient one) also gives a nice effect of the water getting deeper. Take a look and see if its helpful or not | 2009-04-15 09:56:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
