LBP Leveling System

Archive: 14 posts

I think it would be really cool to have a leveling system in LBP, because come on, who doesnt like leveling?
Way we could do this:
I think a way we could do this is MM could play the cool levels, busiest, and/or highest rated levels. Then after they play they would be able to see how much exp you get for completing the level, like for very easy levels you would get 10 exp and for hard levels you would get 50 exp. Also you could get more exp for if you get a good highscore.
This could be used a lot for receiving costume pieces, or receive prize bubbles, and etc.
What do you think?

That's a great idea!!! I would love to see that in LBP, and I hope Media Molecule finds this thread and does something like this!!!2009-04-13 04:23:00

And thus creators would create levels for easy levels up, thrust me, it may sound like a good idea, but some users will find a way to majorly ruin it.
Besides, how would the experience be handled?
If its by the creator people are just gonna use and make some super short levels that give a large amount of exp.
Because i doubt Mm will be able to play the hudreads of thousands of levels made.
And if its by the complexity of the levels people would do the same, but just put a large amount of usless junk some place in the level.
And that'd have to change a lot of the game system, not to mention thos peple that have been users after this was implemented would start complaining as how everyone else before didn't have to do a bunch of stuff to be able to play with everything.
And bringing a major change like that would bring some other major bugs and issues.
Nice idea, but it can easly be killed
Sorry if i went too much about it, just felt like ranting.XD

what i think MM should do is gather up a load of the best/well made levels and then have some huge spotlight type thing (similar to what we have on this forum) where all the best levels have their own separate section, with the newest levels on the first page and the oldest ones further back

then have maybe an update every 2 weeks where they pick the best 5-10 levels and push them onto the "spotlight page"

if they did that, they could award exp for completing these levels

then maybe a separate exp system for playing levels that aren't spotlighted, so people still have a reason to look for new levels

Yeah...I don't like this idea...I think LBP is such a hit because of its seemingly simple surface, yet underneath it is a whole new world of complexity. LBP is beautiful, fun and focused. Just adding exp will complicate the whole thing...sure MM could give out just prizes for the best levels or they best times/scores on really good levels but not experience. It's not LBPRPG it's LBP the beautiful and devilishly simple platformer.2009-04-13 12:13:00

I believe i had stated that Media Molecule (MM) was supposed to play the levels on the "cool" page or on the "best rated" page, and that then THEY would then determine the amount of exp for the level, and if it was just useless junk that happened to get the best rating or got on the cool page then they could just give it 0 amount of exp.
I get your fact about MM playing 1000s of levels, but maybe you could get a certain amount for the amount of hearts/rating/plays/wins then the amount of wins and plays could determine the difficulty w/o playing the level.

This is an extremely bad idea. Seem the other thread for my original opinion that obviously won't change.

LBP is about creativity and not creator devellopment. All creator should be on the same ground to create and so the environnement is the fairest possible. Just look how the stupid trophies skewed the community. Adding unrelated stuff like leveling for creator would only worsen things up. Believe me. Anything ego-related is BAD when it's not in a "character development focused" game like an RPG for instance.

It's not because leveling up is cool that it works in any type of games. There's also enough levelling and grinding out there, please, leave this to RPGs.

1.I know yo said Mm would play and give xp, but i doubt they'll play all the cool levels, i don't think they really play that much online.
And imagin how people would get angry how only "some levels" get to give xp and theirs don't (no one will play their levels.)
2.If you make it about plays/hearts this would start something so horrible H4H would me nothing compared to it. Srry m8, but i don't think this is a good idea.

Maybe it can be used in the opposite way! Where a player gets experience for playing *new* levels! Something like a reward system for trying out new creations that could very well go unnoticed - that way, new levels will have a better fighting chance :arg:

Either way, I really like the idea of a reward system (other than trophies) for playing new levels, even if it is not a leveling up RPG type thing, however they do it, it could really help the community and new comers.

This is LBP not RPG.

Any sort of system that gives a creator an edge over another is a big no no.2009-04-18 01:35:00

Ahh, I will always wonder why they never fixed those "Play, Create, and Share" points.

I believe that was the purpose of them, not in a "level-up" manner, but instead reward you points for just playing levels, creating, and sharing your levels.

This would really have no effect, just to keep count of how many levels you have and stuff.

I don't know why they haven't fixed those as mine are still 3 big fat 0's, but we'll find out later maybe.
