Mobile Version of the Website?

Archive: 18 posts

When I try to view these forums on my PDA using a lighter version of internet explorer all that loads up is the gray background which, to be quite brutally honest, isn't all that useful.
Is there a mobile version of the site? Or would it be possible to create one?

Well, you can choose to view the site with our Mobile style, which can be chosen from the Style Chooser at the bottom left of the page. Do you see the style chooser when you load the site on your PDA?2009-04-12 23:39:00

Yeah, there is, just go to the bottom of the page, it should give you 3 options, one of them being mobile.2009-04-12 23:39:00

They grey screen i think you'll find says "you need javascript enabled to view this site" or something like that.
That's what I get when I try and view the site on a mobile phone nowadays. Tried it on 3 phones and that keeps showing.
I used to come on here all the time from my phone but it stopped working about Christmas time.
I had been meaning to ask the admin CC to check it out for me as Javascript was enabled on all 3 phones I tried

The mobile view is accessible on your PC too. It's at the very bottom of this page VVVVVVVVVV
It should say default style atm.

If you view it on your PC, I think to get back to the default style you have to log out then log back in again (that's what you used to have to do anyway )

OK so you can switch back easily now without logging out.

Just tried it

Hmm, that is odd; I view the site daily on my mobile without any issues. What browser are you using, Dorien? A mobile version of IE?2009-04-12 23:48:00

To tell you the truth I don't know lol
But the 3 phones I tried it on were all different makes and different networks
And I used to come on here all the time on the same phones.....

My main phone is a Nokia N95 (http://www.mobiletechreview.com/phones/Nokia-N95.htm) and I'm on the t-mobile network.

In an article I just found (the N95 link ^^^) it says

"the excellent S60 Feature Pack 1 web browser based on Safari technology"

So guessing Safari then???

Then only device I can use to come on here is my itouch, but that's through wifi so I guess that's not classed as mobile.

i'm on my dsi right now [late night lbpc ftw!] and it is pretty much fine, if not a little slow to load, although i very much doubt that will be solved by mobile mode. To make sure i have some reason for this post, although i can only do it via wi-fi, i do know the DSi uses a version of opera... soooo yeah

The mobile mode should make it much faster to load as it is very basic (that's the point of it )

Changing the view style to mobile doesn't help as I'm not actually logged in on my pda (I literally get like 3 different shades of gray and thats it)... can anyone actually change the coding of the webpage? You could make it so it determines what browser you are using then changes the setting in that box at the bottom automatically according to what it is.2009-04-13 11:55:00

Yeah that sounds exactly like what I was explaining before.
You get different shades of grey bands going horizontally.

You might not be able to see what I was saying about it saying something about Javascript must be turned on to view this site as I could only make it out on one of the phones (then other 2 phones you were unable to see the faint writing) . The writing is only a very slightly different shade at the top.

Sounds like a deficit in the browser, not a site issue. Javascript is only on some phones, and it is integral to vBulletin, so I'm not surprised you're running into issues.2009-04-14 01:53:00
