Turning on/off electricity?
Archive: 14 posts
Hi everyone, I have a quick question. Is there some glitch in LBP that lets you control electricty via a switch? Look at the end of this video: YouTube - Little Dead Space 2 At about the 8:30 mark, the tentacles sort of "turn on" and the electricity activates. I really want to know how to do this. It doesn't look like a typical LBP trick. Any ideas? Thanks | 2009-04-11 16:05:00 Author: mindphaser74 Posts: 349 |
I think they might have emmited the electrified shape into the tentacles. I don't think there is anything in the middle of them before that. EDIT: I kept pausing/ playing each frame and now I'm not sure at all. DarknessBear is a really awesome creator though. | 2009-04-11 16:16:00 Author: S-A-S--G-U-N-R Posts: 1606 |
I'll have to go on LBP but I have a theory... EDIT: Well PS3 crashed so couldn't replicate *hmph*. The tentacles have gaps in them and you could fill these gaps with material and that could be how he makes it look electric. Or the other thing I was going to try was using different materials or a tentacle to see if they share the same properties. What I mean is if you get dark matter and make it electric the draw more dark matter that touches it that new dark matter becomes electric too. So he could hide his similar material or mini tentacle in the gaps and they would pass on their properties when they were emitted (though I'm not sure that would work). Can't really write out all my ideas since I need to get a controller in my hands and play around with so many variables but those two were the most obvious place to start and the easiest to do. | 2009-04-11 16:47:00 Author: Shermzor Posts: 1330 |
my feelings about this is that it is a glitch. I bet that when an electrified object is moving onto the screen, the electricity doesn't register immediately. This is just a guess though. I'll have to experiment. | 2009-04-12 00:18:00 Author: mindphaser74 Posts: 349 |

Probably either he emmited the electrified part in the tentacles, or dissolved an outer layer that was hiding the electric area. Not 100% sure, but its the best explanation i can think of right now, one thing's for sure, that's no glitch, he planned it like that. | 2009-04-12 00:50:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
That was something I was thinking of, we know that fire behind glass is invisible so maybe electricity is too? Electricity is not invisible behind glass... My "Lost Under Glass" level has TONS of electrified objects hidden behind glass... You can see the electrified objects just fine... They glow... They look cool too. It must have been something else... Could a new electrified tentacle have been emitted via some kind of logic switch... As in, it emits a non-electrified one early in the level, and then some kind of one-shot switch trips a turned logic switch to emit something else... As in, a hidden prox is set to 1-shot. The magician level in the game has a box that emits different things. | 2009-04-12 02:07:00 Author: dobi6 Posts: 359 |
Well I PM'ed him yesterday and I haven't got an answer on Youtube so I'm waiting. If it's a glitch then it's going to be hard to replicate since we're doing it in a logical way. | 2009-04-12 11:17:00 Author: Shermzor Posts: 1330 |
Interesting thing about tentacles and some other 3-d objects. When you make them larger than they normally are, electrify them and have part of the object off screen, the electricity effect does not show on screen until a certain portion of the object is visible. In his case, its just good timing to make it look like its turning on, when in reality it was never off. | 2009-04-12 11:48:00 Author: Jaeyden Posts: 564 |
Thanks for clearing it up | 2009-04-12 12:39:00 Author: Shermzor Posts: 1330 |

Would be so nice though to be able to turn electricity on/off. Something for MM to consider maybe? | 2009-04-12 16:13:00 Author: mindphaser74 Posts: 349 |
Ahhh nice one Jaeyden. I had a feeling that it wasn't something he put a lot of effort in to create that effect >_> I knew it was just that the electricity effect hadn't loaded yet or something along those lines. | 2009-04-12 18:28:00 Author: Pitcard Posts: 779 |

It's a shame it is only some kind of glitch... ? _ ? Anyway, thx for the bullseye! | 2009-04-13 11:06:00 Author: Miglioshin Posts: 336 |
