Ultra Beginners and Girlfriends (Spotlighted!)

Archive: 51 posts

Hi guys and gals,

I finally finished my new level. As I always try to not repeat myself in my approaches, this one is also different from my previous levels. UB&G is intended for beginners, kids and your girlfriend that just started playing. It's kinda funny, it's cute (make me hungry actually) and I did put stuff for experienced players too. If you're good at exploring and with LBP physics you can score easily over 30 000 bubble points.

Have fun + any feedback is welcomed. I leave you with some pictures.

My son LOOOVES this level! Interestingly, I do to. This level has such a warm, funny, and overall polish to it. It's actually infectious running around grabbing the point bubbles. I love the mechanic of pulling open the "bubble bins" - even though technically it shouldn't matter, it actually added to the fun pulling open these boxes and trying to grab the points really fast before they fell off a ledge.

The many places where you get thrown up in the air are a lot of fun, and throwing yourself onto the big cake at the end was a riot.

No negative comments - thiis level is fantastic! Obviously, 5 stars and a heart.

Great idea! I was planning on making a level for my girlfriend soon so she could play through with me. I'll check this out later tonight probably.2009-04-09 18:54:00

I had a really good time playing this level. It is well designed, with just a teeny hint of a challenge near the end, lots of very good text for new users, and plenty of eye candy (in the form of... candy - and cake, and ice cream , and jello, and cinnamon rolls, etc.).
Okay - now I'm getting hungry.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... caaaaaake...

EDIT: Oh yeah - 5 stars and a Heart !! Nice work.

I played through it last night and it's cool! I have to admit, as a woman, when I saw the term "Girlfriends" in the title I was a little indignant but I soon came to my senses. It's for inexperienced players and statistically that would involve a lot of girlfriends so I'm cool with it.

I love your theme. The sweets and fruit are pretty and very accessible for younger players and ladies (in general). I also thought it was brilliant to give experienced players the option to not get the hints. I think this might be one of the best examples of having layers of difficulty on a level too. Sure you can get through it relatively easy but if you have some skills getting the bubble combinations is challenging. Nicely done.

I only managed about 24,000 points to I'll have to try for that 30,000 again!

Thanks for sharing it - It's a lot of fun!

Tks alot for the feedback. I'm actually pleasantly surprised at the reactions towards the level so far. I actually didn't really meet any harsh critic yet. And yeah the "girlfriend" is the joke. It's actually my girlfriend (just started playing videogame) that fooled proof tested the level. I suppose you noticed the whole level is actually humoristic. Did you like my narcissic heart dude? Found some secrets?

well, I WAS gonna wait to post this up until it needed a bump, but i gotta say, this level is really really really well constructed. great idea on the tips, the decoration and use of materials was overall quite fantastic. (great job using those never-used valentines pack materials!)

My wife played with me, and when we were done, she went and made some pudding... the level really got to her. fantastic job on this level, 5 stars, and a heart from me, and my wife wanted to give you props for the level as well!

I found this level great! I liked those points chest around the level that you grab, the main character, the idea of having tips and having secret areas is always a bonus. The visuals were good too (mmmm, cake). My only complaint is that on the cotton picking part the "cotton" you grab isn't decorated, you could add some stickers onto them to make them more better visually.

Overall 5 stars and a heart.

Tks for the feedback buddy. Actually I wondered HOW could I made those pink chunk looks more like a coton candy but honestly I couldn't find anything interesting so I came to the conclusion: "bah, pink material still look candy-ish and should do". lol

Oh and guys! I'm sticked in the cool pages, page 3 so far. THAT IS AMAZING. tks for all your plays. Continue to pimp it with me!

Maybe if you eletrified some of the cotton candy it would make it more interesting XD

Seriously, though - ran into 1 tiny thing I wish was different - this is a GREAT 2 player level, and there doesn't seem to be any reason for the "no more players past this mark" thingy. Your choice, but I would just yank that object out and let anyone join at any time.

Ohhhhhhhhh, I didn't think about that one. It's just an habit to put that thing there. I definetely will remove at my next publishing since I have a 2 players and more friendly level. Digging the coton 4 players must be cool!

You spelt Cotton "coton" lol.

Liking it a lot though! also, don't remove the player entry gate, people can still invite if they are on each others friends list.

That was a lot of fun! I enjoyed the theme and was impressed how you were able to make a level that is for both the casual and hardcore gamer. It's not difficult, but the platforming is interesting and fun!

I think the cakes and all of the candy looked great and really makes the level. Nice job!

Getting a high score is hard..... I spent a LOT of time trying to get to #1.... I FINALLY GOT IT! I was so proud of myself, then I got a message from RangerZero in my PSN about half an hour later. "OK, now beat MY SCORE". HE DIDN'T EVEN LET ME SAVOR (candy and cake pun) MY VICTORY FOR AN ENTIRE HOUR!!!!!

But I'm workin' on it.... I figure about 30 more plays and I should have the high score again. Of course, the forum spotlight will probably be shorter this week.

Shorter of Ultra Beginners and Girlfriends?

By the way, on a serious note, I can't believe how many comments people leave in your level when you're in the first pages... Half of it is spam and people even advertise their own levels in the comments of others. Also, the quantity of H4H is jarring.

Oh yeah, I laughed even more when I read about TWO PEOPLE being offended by my title. You know, a serious lack of both humor and self-esteem. This world is sad. Need to make more happy levels like this. lol

I had a play through the level this morning. Loved it, great theme and design. Really liked all the little bits of confectionary, cakes and things, they looked fantastic. Even the wife was intrested and thats saying something.

I did'nt really see or hit any problems, the level was fairly solid and enjoyable to play

I gave you 5* and a heart, good job.

Ok, I pulled off the high score again! Until RangerZero rips it from me like the coldhearted girlfriend-slamming he is!

By the way, I got the high score again because my 3-year-old nephew wanted to play, and he immediately stumbled upon 2 secrets I didn't know existed! True story. It's amazing what can happen when you put the controller in the hands of a child who doesn't know how to play.

Just felt like playing some LBP and searched busiest levels and this was the first level it fell on

Clicked play online and ended up in the level with a random girl called hanna and we had some great fun. She beat me so I guess I lost to a girl:blush: lol

Great level man, love how vibrant it is.

Well done and a big thumbs up

Go ahead.... I'll take it like a man. I worked pretty hard to get that score and I'm not sure anybody besides you is gonna beat it. I could have gotten higher, but I misstepped a few of the combos.

By the way, I hear the women's liberation army is forming a lynch mob, so you'll excuse me if I keep my distance.

I think J. Dizzle was really being a poop head and saying rude things to people. I think he's the same guy that was banned from here after putting his "greatest level" and "2nd greated level" threads up here and THEN sending me tons of PM's when I gave him less-than-favorable feedback on his levels.

I personally think the name of your level is fantastic. I enjoy a little refreshing controversy.

I played this the other day with CCubbage, and I have to say, it's amazing!
It's nice to see an easy but fun level. It remimds me of World of Colour (R.I.P.) in that aspect, which is very very good.
Only one thing that could be bad is that ickle boys might be put of by the heart. But it's very minor.

This level is really cute and warm feel when you play it, the gameplay is really user friendly but not too easy.. i always like to throw my self in the air with those rotating wheels.

Also theres so much eyecandy to see, this level also reminds me of he "donut level" which was great as well.

overall this level earned 4 stars and a heart from me. great job!

The adventure is over now. I got 4909 plays and many comments and support. Tks all!!

Well done RangerZero for making it onto the second page.

I think you should make a few tiny improvements like: making the magic mouth text simpler for youngn's to understand and change the name to make it appeal more to kids. Then, when you re-publish it, it will might get onto the first page.

Anyways, this isn't worth modifying my work in my point of view. Cool pages are a fun experience but I'm not looking for it to the point of altering my creations. I have some emotional attachement to their "original form" and like to keep them this way. It's not the same anymore when you publish them again on another spot or skewing your vision for popularity. I wouldn't feel that I express myself as much as i'm doing now

I was surprised at the amazing response this level got to begin with. It really was an awesome adventure. Now focusing on my train level
