With all these PS3s dying...

Archive: 10 posts

I feel we need some good prevenitive information for those of us who have ps3s yet to show signs of giving up!

The only thing I've ever done to keep my consoles healthy is keep them off the carpet (urban legend says your console will absorb static electricity) and lots of dusting / blowing out fans/grates/etc etc.

I know theres some electronic pros out there, so please let us know! I for one will do anything to keep my consoles in top notch working order for as long as possible. I'm not a stranger to buying additional fans/cooling units so long as they do not violate my still standing warranty.

Keep it in a well ventilated spot is one. Hmm... Have it in a spot where the sun won't be hitting directly at it. It's really common sense things, I have mine right on top of my desk, there is nothing above it except a tv which is mounted on my wall.2009-04-09 03:29:00

Clean it constantly, remember that no matter where it is it will still get dusty even if it is slowly, thy may cause for it to stop working early 2009-04-09 08:18:00

Make sure it can keep cool, thats the key with the PS3. Overheating PS3's are a major problem. Unfortunately for me i can only keep it in a place where it is eventually going to over heat

Meh, don't know why mine failed.

Kept it in a section of the table under the television. It wasn't in sunlight, had room to breathe, dust didn't really get in tremendously and in the time before it broke I hadn't been on it for a few weeks more than just to check the store or my lbp levels.

Well, let's not be alarming, it's rare a PS3 fails first of all.

Anyways, to prevent it,

1-Keep it in a ventilated space.
2-Humidity = very bad.
3-Dust = very bad ( I suggest you put a clothe on it when it's turned of or in sleep mode so it limits dust fall)
4-Don't stupidly play 6 hours in a row. Have some 15 mins break each 2-3 hours.
5-Keep it horizontal to limit gravity pull on the disk drive.

Is it really that stupid

I mean OPM did it for 24 hours and they're still walking (even though the doctor warned them it may cause blindness and migranes...).

Don't forget this is a prevention advice I gave him. Of course your machine will probably work after 24 hours consecutive hours.

Thing is, the longer your plqay session, the more you can overheat for X reasons. That's all there is to know really.

Thanks for all your feedback guys, I definitly dont keep my ps3 as clean, and i play it for way too long, according to your expert feedback

Also third party life increaser extensions i've found to be 9 times out of 10 WORSE for the console than actually helping...

Case in point nyko intercooler for Xbox 360, version 1 was complete plastic and leeched power from the 360, casuing red rings and burnout on the power port.
