This Concerns the Community Spotlight Threads

Archive: 16 posts

As some of you know my Metal Gear Karas wasnt Spotlighted when i first came here because of me being a so called "Inative User" then.

If you have less than 30% activity, then you are then categorized as an Inactive User. And unfortunately, i was below that.

It was understandable at that time, but then when future Spotlight threads came out, i noticed, many of those levels' creators are also inactive like i was..

Now i dont have any problems with the creators level being mentioned in the Spotlight threads even when their not active enough, since i too think that they their levels are great and they deserve to be mentioned.

My only question is:

Does this mean that you've taken the requirement off, of needing to be active enough to get a mention on the Community Spotlight?

because as far as i know, i still am an Inactive User now. i came from 1% activity to 45% and then then 30% now i went beck down to 18% lol.

For the last spotlight activity limits were removed. I think this was to make up for a missed spotlight. If you check the others you'll see that the activity restrictions are there.2009-04-07 19:10:00

This time around we had no activity limits, and it worked out fairly well. Our activity restriction is usually 15%.2009-04-07 19:10:00

It seems fair enough as it is to me
I can see why it was left out this time round (what with the whole week or two off) but will it continue to be left out?

That's a good question. It worked out great this time - we had a ton of levels to show off, with nobody feeling left out. I'm definitely considering continuing the no-activity-limits concept, depending on how you guys feel about it.

As a spotlight crew member, I personally liked it. Before if I found a level I really enjoyed, I would think twice about putting it on the spotlight because I didn't want the creator to feel discouraged by being in the inactive list.... so I would try to watch their activity to see if maybe they would be more active the next time around (I wanted their level being on the spotlight to be a 100% positive experience).

We also ran into issues where we would add it to the spotlight thread earlier as inactive, but wouldn't realize they were at the proper activity level when the spotlight was published.

This arrangement definately made it easier on the spotlight crew, and seems much more positive.

Im glad that you have taken it off man, because i felt left out last time when i was new to LBPC and then i felt even more left out (like i was a dog in a world of cats) when i saw inactive users getting their levels added to the list.

But then now im relieved that its gone, since i just cant keep up with the activity requirement..

I have an independent lifestyle with a room mate, a 10 hr fulltime job, and i organize my time in LBP, creating and reviewing levels. also theres the occasional spending time with family and friends.

So 30% activity was a bit hard to reach for me.

With that said, thanks for taking it off and i hope it stays that way.

In a side note, when Cornish Yarg finally reveals its self, my 3 month old project would then be coming to its near completion, and heres to hoping that you guys find it to your liking.

Since you guys seem so happy with the lack of an activity limit, I think we'll keep it that way. It should result in more comprehensive spotlights in the future, which is always a good thing. 2009-04-08 07:31:00

Maybe add a minimum of 5%, just so that you have to actually use the forums somewhat, rather than everyone thinking they can come over here, post their good levels and leave, for free plays.2009-04-08 07:57:00

To play devil's advocate, let's say that did happen. Worst case scenario, someone drops in, posts a great level, then leaves - it wouldn't boot any other prospective Spotlighted levels, for one. It might even bring that good creator back for more, especially if they see that they are getting good feedback here. If it becomes a flood of users who abuse our Spotlight, then we'll add some "flood control", so to speak, but at the moment, it doesn't seem to be too much of an issue. Let's try it and see how it goes.

Im with you on that one ConfusedCartman, thats a really positive way to look at it, the more people we have here the merrier.

Also, we have such a great community here, i dont think anybody who's looking for answers or share their ideas would have a reason not to come back.

which brings me to yet another question, how does the site handle the BS of H4Hs? Im assuming thats banned here?

I don't think it's banned but most users just ignore them on the rare occasion that they pop. They usually spend most of their time spamming the cool levels anyway.

I agree. Since there's no limit to the levels we can add to the spotlight list, it really doesn't matter to me if someone who isn't active gets on the list.

The reason people become active members of forums is because they feel a part of it and feel like they have friends. I'm not sure getting levels showcased has ever been an incentive for activity (maybe to raise their activity to get on the spotlight, but not to STAY active).

I like this new way of doing things.

I always thought that we should spotlight great levels from the people in our community but a great level is great (then should be played and recognised) regardless the user is active or not anymore. Great decision guys.

I totally agree with the removal of the restrictions, it might make users want to stick around if they get a level on the spotlighted, plus it will give us all more levels to play every fortnight.2009-04-08 16:11:00
