Using the mouse and keyboard
Archive: 17 posts
Wouldn't it be much easier to use a mouse and keyboard for creating levels? You'd have more freedom to move the object to the right position, and other basic things would be much easier. | 2009-04-06 01:57:00 Author: RakkShot Posts: 10 |
Well, you can use the keyboard, tho the mouse thingcould be a good idea if used properly, tho keep in mind you'd have to be sitting down wherever there's a flat surface to use the mouse in, and with all the time one spends making levels, i don't think that'd be the #1 option for creating... | 2009-04-06 02:53:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
A few basic keyboard controls stolen from a PC environment (ctrl-c to copy, ctrl & mouse wheel to zoom etc) and simple mouse support would be so nice for creating. As for having to be near a flat surface, I've got a laser mouse that tracks happily on fabric and also a little wireless keyboard/touchpad combo like you'd have on a laptop. Either of these could be used while comfortable slouching on my sofa! It really bugs me that so little support is being put in for keyboard and mouse in PS3 games. The OS already supplies the drivers so the dev effort required for adding support in the games shouldn't be that significant. I know not everyone would use it, but it would be nice to have the option. | 2009-04-06 14:18:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
I don't think its needed, if you look online people are clearly making levels fine without them. True it might take some time to get used to the control layout and they could do some enhancements when it comes to how to zoom in and out but for me I hope they put more effort into things like new create features and more level packs. | 2009-04-06 15:45:00 Author: OverWork Posts: 873 |
Keyboard would have little use beyond making the search easier (and possibly text bubbles). If you have thatm uch of a problem with that then you may aswell buy an add-on I've seen for the controller which is a basic keyboard which slots nicely into the top of the controller. I agree with the mouse though, would make a lot much easier. I'm sure that with a bit of tinkering you could get a mouse set up onto the PS3 (can you not just plug it into the USB slot) | 2009-04-06 16:44:00 Author: Coxy224 Posts: 2645 |
One game in the PS3 has mouse support. (Quake something.. forgot the name D: ) so I guess LBP can take it too. | 2009-04-08 01:57:00 Author: AwesomePossum Posts: 446 |
The keyboard i would like, but i think that the mouse would be a little too fast for creating purposes. | 2009-04-08 03:15:00 Author: RipTlde Posts: 151 |
too bad you cant input lengths like on pistons, so painful to make a piston that moves far | 2009-04-08 04:07:00 Author: deboerdave Posts: 384 |
I disagree with the mouse. The analog sticks are good enough, and they don't have the "shakiness" that a mouse has. Yes, it would be nice to be able to type in lengths for pistons and the sort. (use the d-pad, though, and it will go by .5) In the search and inputting level info, it would be awesome if you could use the arrow keys navigate menus instead of constantly switching between the controller and keyboard. | 2009-04-09 23:06:00 Author: crazymario Posts: 657 |
using the mouse and the keyboard would be a nice addition for people who don't like using the analogs to draw stuff it'd be even better if i could plug my drawing tablet into the ps3 and use that ^^ i think something we definatly need is the ability to input values with the onscreen keyboard at least. like someone before me said, making really long pistons and stuff like that is a pain | 2009-04-10 00:54:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
i probaly would not use the mouse but i am getting a keyboard soon there like 5 gb pound | 2009-04-17 22:21:00 Author: Unknown User |

I think the mouse would be a good thing. Okay, it may have some shakiness to it for some people but you will be able to operate sooo much faster. But, I think it will be more accurate for me and some other people. The keyboard would also be great for short cuts so you don't have to go searching through your pop-it. But if they don't implement the mouse support as well, I might not use the keyboard as much, if I do it would be a pain to put down the controller, type on the keyboard, pick up the controller etcetera, etcetera. If they add the mouse, you will be able to have the mouse in one hand and the other controlling the keyboard. I am fairly confident that they will add it in the future because in the interview by "Guardian Games Blog," or "Another Castle," can't remember which. MM said that they had a mouse and keyboard support but it isn't polished enough, so they might decide to run with it. | 2009-04-18 11:29:00 Author: olit123 Posts: 1341 |
Could be good thing but the game would need to be made for the keyb/mouse combo. Right now it's greatly optimised and made for a controller. I don't even feel like using something else if the interface wouldn't change with it. Everything is thought out for a d-pad and joysticks right now. And well done at that. . | 2009-04-18 17:29:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
Keyboard + mouse will probably be for create mode .. it would help a hell of a lot. if mice are supported.. So are tablets xD | 2009-04-18 20:02:00 Author: CreateNPlay Posts: 1266 |
