How to do glitch levels :/

Archive: 27 posts

As many of you might have noticed, a major amount of "How to do glitches" levels have arisen, who spilled the beans?! tch, seriously, there are two reasons why these levels will brind dire concequences to the LBP Comunnity, and when this happens you shall remember me saying "I told you so!"
First is, there will be a major number of "randumb" levels (What i call those senseless levels) where they will abuse these glitches.
Second and worst consequense of all this, which many people don't realize is that Mm is now bound to find out about the glitches, thus they will fix them soon, which means no more glitches for ANYONE, even tho they made these levels so everyone knows(bad idea), just like what happened to the "cow glitch".
So thanks to this we have only 2 options now if we want to keep our glitches for any further use, stock up on glitched stuff, put it all in a level or two, or take down every single one of these levels and hope Mm hasn't seen them.
So what do you say?

I don't think it will have much consequences. Some of the most usefull glitches were the cow glitch (you can always unpatch your game to go make some custom materials), the invisible pistons (fix coming in Cornish Yarg - you will now make them invisible for real) and the invisible dark matter, something they probably won't ever fix because it seems to be related to something deep down their graphic rendering engine/code.

Wich abuse do you think is alarming right now? The gaz-degaz thing to create levels like Anti-Color? Media Molecule actually praised that level themselve, they won't prevent people from making some artistic stuff with glitches. At worse they will fix it but make it a true option.

I'd still create a vault none the less. I mean what did removing cow achieve? It just made people lose out of materials they wanted. So I'll create my safe little bunker of glitched stuff and enough cans of beans to ride it out until Cornish Yarg....2009-04-05 17:44:00

Glitches are bad.
Whether they add an extra function or not.
It's good that Mm are more likely to see them now.
imo anyway

The levels have nothing to do with MM finding out about glitches. Who's to say that I don't work for MM; I could search for/ask about nearly any glitch in the game, and you guys (being as nice and awesome as you are) would tell me.2009-04-06 04:03:00

He's a spy! Get him!
Nah, but i was mostly making a fuzz about the major number of glitch levels surfacing recently, no effort, no nothing, just plain old glitches, and they don't even show any of the good non-public ones... (i myself got 3 that no one seems to know about yet )
But nothing more, just putting a bit of humor there, didn't think it'd change the meaning of the thread that much.

I think the major amount of "How to do glitch levels" is annoying. I actually hope Mm will fix some of these glitches like the tiny start gate/checkpoint/scorboard glitch. Levels containing them really annoy me.2009-04-08 20:33:00

I didn't really care about them... Until they gave away unremovable stickers!!! Imagine what that could do to your pod!!!! One little sticker could ruin it FOREVER!!!!!! I just hate how they give that away and tell people how to use it. I like how they're in popular levels, because I'd love that glitch to be removed; but I also hate how they're in popular levels, because now everybody has permanent stickers that cannot be removed and can ruin your pod!!!2009-04-12 05:21:00

Pff, in case you haven't noticed, there's a "Reset your pod decorations" option in the pause menu, so no, it wouldn't be ruined forever.
Hehehe, good thing no one knows about MY glitch or how to do it XD
If you wanna know what i'm talking about, just head over to my bugs and glitches album, got 3 pictures of it in there. If you do happen to know how its done tho, don't you dare say how!!! XD

God **** and I was using invisible floors and floating flames everywhere. Not in a senseless manner but in a creative way, but even so, I would be really annoyed if MM fixed these glitches. They're quite fun ^^2009-04-12 11:51:00

I recently published the "Trippy Glitch Demo". I figured out how to get that glitch into play mode & decided to share how with the community. I'm working on a tutorial now. I see some very real creative possibilities with this glitch, and want to share. I'm excited about seeing what other talented developers can create with this. I also worry that 100's of little stupid-heads are going to learn my glitch and publish pointless levels to show off, but that's a small price for giving more creative power to the talented people out there who'll put it to good use.

Yeah, MM might patch it... but I'll take that chance.

For the record, I am annoyed by all the "Every Glitch In LBP" levels that have been popping up lately. They just copy one another, and most don't give credit to the original creators. (Although that might be hard to track down.)2009-04-12 12:29:00

it's a glitch that gives the properties of one type of material to another

like having floating glass or grabbable metal (not sure where the cow bit comes in)

and i'm sure the glitches do have real function if they're used right

like discreetly blocking off areas with invisible dark matter, and one guy used the invisible fire glitch quite well as a hint system in a puzzle

I played your demo, I thought it was awesome. I can't wait for the tutorial, but I'm not going to use it without giving you all the credit, don't worry. How heavy is it on the thermometer? Does it take up a lot of space?

I know how you feel about the endless streams of glitch levels, they're becoming just as annoying as H4H levels. I played one level and thought it was great, but then more of the same levels cropped up and I just got bored very quickly. I must admit I found one or two very interesting, but the rest? Nah. At least your glitches are unique.

You're the one who made it?
Cool, i've been trying to do it ever since i saw it in your leevel, but i've had no succes so far
A shame really, as that'd really help me in a level i'm planning on doing.
Mind explaining to me how its done? maybe i'm doing something wrong. Of ourse i'll give credit where its due, so don't worry about that.

i get a glitch similar to that sometimes when i'm playing the construction site level

one of the fireballs that rolls past at the beginning always seems to have that trippy effect

Sorry, just out of interest, but did anyone else discover the floating flame and the invisible platform glitch without looking at these levels? I found out how to do these by accident a couple of months before finding it in the recent glitch tutorials.2009-04-12 20:28:00

The invisible platforms is kinda easy and basic, found it in the 2nd day i had the game
The floating flame one was kinda of an accident as i was copining a candle it just copied the fame, and was a bit surprised as i didn't know that was possible XD

I'm not too worried about Mm "fixing" all these glitches. Most of the stuff isn't dangerous ie... it won't mess up anyones files.

Most of it is very helpful, and if Mm are gonna see it being used to some great effect in peoples levels, they're not gonna think "HOLD ON! THEY CAN'T BE DOING THIS INGAME >:O"

They're gonna "fix" the bug, but hopefully make it a REAL option ingame

The most annoying thing about all these glitches is the amount of "All the glitches I know" levels that spawn from them >_>

Half the levels on cool levels now are glitch levels. TBH once you've seen the first you've seen them all. They're really self perpetuating too..... new creators end up messing around with pointless glitches instead of building some decent levels.

Cheers Drunkenfist Lee for sharing your glitch with us though, I can understand that you want to share new techniques with dedicated creators ^^

i found out about dark matter after someone made a "flying car" (car drives up invisible DM) and i thought about how it was done.

then i saw someone using the flame from a candle (as a jet flame), so i tried getting it myself.

By the way, this is how it was done: You place a rocket. Set the boost low and set 'on'. Capture the rocket. Emit the captured rocket with a low lifespan. PAUSE. Grab the emitted rocket and left-click-copy. Place the copied-emitted-rocket against a surface. Save the game. As soon as you unpause, the rockets vanish and the materials turn all foggy. You got different effects, depending on how it was used. .. (The size and shape of whatever you put it on..)

You could make invisible light-sources, and invisible fog with it, too. I'm going to miss that!!

Hopefully MM adds similar effects or functionality into the game someday.
