Copyable, but not re-publishable

Archive: 17 posts

I hate how whenever you make a copyable level, some noob copies it and just publishes it. Some levels are copyable because it's trying to teach people stuff about create mode, but then the same thing happens: some noob just copies it and gives no credit. I was thinking it would be cool if you could make a level that people can put in "my levels", but they can't republish it or capture anything from it.2009-04-04 20:10:00

That would be a handy option. I'll second that.2009-04-04 20:19:00

Yes, copied levels shouldn't be allowed to be published at all.
This i have seen done many MANY times with "Distress in Ocean" and "Terras's Theme".
Man, are these reportable as copyright?
If not this should be reportable so that those copy levels can be taken down.

Yeah, however not enough people make their levels copyable.
So many times I'll finish a level and think - I wonder how so-and-so works But I can't

You could simply capture the objects in the copied level as an object and paste that into a new level to overcome such a limitation. It wouldn't work.2009-04-04 21:14:00

Captured objects got some limitations like losing the wire connections of seperate parts. Also those "noobs" we are obviously talking about won't come to this idea. Someone who finally could circumvent this protection should be good enough to make his own level.

Finally MM could extend this system so that you can't capture or edit those protected levels at all.

Captured objects do not lose wire connections since the last patch, thankfully.

Preventing capturing or editing altogether should work, it's true. Then again, it would defeat the purpose of copying as I understand it, namely to tinker around with the level - but that may be just me.

The level 'Wanted' has been copied and republished by several people left right and centre. I'm incredibly frustrated about the fact that the people who copy and republish these levels beg for hearts along with it.

This is why I never allow my levels to be copied by anyone...

I'd use it!

Seriously, no one will make a copyable level if we all know someone is going to republish it, which we know they will because most of the LBP community sucks. (Not you guys, though. You guys are teh ROX!)

Second.

That's why I think the copy option is amazingly pointless now, it would be great if people used it responisbly...

Haha, help me around fellow players to take down any and all copied levels!
What i usually do to take them down is just find a good wall and make a "You copied this level" sticker among others that say "Thief", "Not your level" and other pictures like such. Then just upload them and within a few minutes the level's gone from the front page

This is a great idea. Most people right now on LBP cannot create good levels so they try to find good levels that are copyable, copy them, and publish it again without the original creator's credit. (not us guys here at LBPC though!) People aren't using the copy option responsibly right now, so this would be a great addition.2009-04-05 10:26:00

I just want to point out something, if you've seen a skateboard level on the Cool Levels page with an icon which reads, "Have Fun!", please, don't play it. This level is just another example of how people just abuse the Copy function, and it now has reached over 100,000 plays whereas the original (which I believe to have been made by someone named bbond_007, sorry if I spelt that incorrectly...) has around 2,000. This level was made copy-free and since then have seen two other people republish it without giving credit and now bbond_007 is really, really ******.2009-04-14 20:39:00

As you would be! I have made a couple of my levels copyable and would be distraught if they got more plays from someone else re-publishing it! 2009-04-14 21:01:00

I was thinking along these lines the other day. A read-only copy of the level would he great. The user who has copied it has the capture tool, save and publish options disabled.

I for one would use it and think it would greatly benefit the community. It would have to be 100% secure for me to even think about doing it though
