New material: Neon

I've been thinking about LBP a lot over spring break, and I thought of the perfect thing to add to LBP! NEON LIGHTS. It has all the characteristics of the light objects, only you could choose what shape it is, rather than just using stars and circles. When you put a black sticker on it, the part with the sticker does NOT light up. For example: neon signs are usually one big rod of neon, but some parts don't light up. You can do this, but only in create mode. The neon would be useful for many things, like LCD display, decorations, and more. Don't just say: "Well, there's VR grid, and that works just fine for me!" I'm thinking of being able to hook a switch up to it and turn it on/off. | 2009-04-04 19:36:00 Author: tjb0607 Posts: 1054 |
Doesn't sound like a bad idea, but the thing is i don't think lights are that big of a deal to have to do a fuss about it, it is agood idea, but it would only be used in rare occations. Well, that's just my opinion. | 2009-04-04 19:48:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
I think it's a great idea! I think it wouldn't be used that much, but you could create some really cool and unique levels with this! | 2009-04-05 10:29:00 Author: lk9988 Posts: 1077 |
Sorry for the bump, but I only have LBP1 and am looking for a solution to this through experimenting. It seems like a lot of work (and thermo use) stringing together little squares of VR grid--not to mention the 2 or 3 colors it has--only to get blocky neon tubes. I'm currently doing research for a cyberpunk-style level, and while doing a cut-in into, say, a building, then adding an LED-color sticker inside-colored glass to cover the cut-in DOES look interesting, (and what I might have to settle with; that or 50 hours constructing smooth VR Grid lettering....) it's still a weird hole cut into the side of a building--OR cut into a sign shape attached to the building: the 3D effect of passing it adds a black distortion that is unacceptable. A glass shape with a light behind could work if you could hide the light, and still have the object be evenly lit. My brain is rattling and I might just spend a few hours tonight on this problem, but a previously posted solution will save me the migraine. | 2011-02-16 20:24:00 Author: Unknown User |

Solution: Get LBP2. | 2011-02-17 02:58:00 Author: RJA00000 Posts: 387 |
You can't assume he can easily just walk out and buy LBP2 | 2011-02-17 12:18:00 Author: Super_Clone Posts: 849 |
You can't assume he can easily just walk out and buy LBP2 Yeah, well I'm just going to leave it at that, get LBP2, because next he'll be asking about how to make a top-down game in LBP1. If he can't get right now, then he should just wait until he can, rather than making it hard on himself. But if he wants to stay on LBP1...with no one...then I guess he can do that. | 2011-02-18 03:12:00 Author: RJA00000 Posts: 387 |

Nope, not going to ask about that next. I basically posted here just to see if there was a solution in another thread, or if someone else came up with something. I realize 1 is extremely limited compared to 2, so no big deal. I'll leave it at that. Edit: I randomly hit page 4 of tutorials and got this: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=36360-How-to-Make-Glowing-Designs perfect! | 2011-02-18 05:14:00 Author: Unknown User |
Illuminated screen puts out even light. place some "old glass" in front of it and you will get a nice glowing look. can be stickered to whatever color or design. has 0 stability issues as it doesnt require a glitch. (shudder) also, its more thermo friendly... might not look quite as good though. old glass produces the highest quality stickers you can get. of course in lbp2 i just use the neon material as my backer, but in all of my lbp1 levels i use illuminated screen... just have to leave a bit of extra space around the edge of the cover object to compensate for the materials border. anyways i see youve found a solution already. just figured i'd throw another option out there. | 2011-02-21 21:06:00 Author: Deftmute Posts: 730 |
This is probably never going to happen. In fact, it is unlikely that LBP will be updated much anymore anyway, unless huge bugs are found. | 2011-02-21 22:36:00 Author: TehUberZac Posts: 587 |

Lighting can't be as dark as it would need to be for the screen to work; can't get old glass, so can't comment on that suggestion. Not online, so can't get the merger thingy, decided to build according to my ability .I will figure something out | 2011-02-24 10:38:00 Author: Unknown User |

LBP2 actually has exactly a material called Neon..for you owners of LBP2 it looks exactly like holograms minus the animation(including the wavy screen lines). | 2011-05-02 22:57:00 Author: Cronos Dage Posts: 396 |

You do realize this thread is more than 2 years old, right? xD This is why i keep reminding everyone to check when the OP was posted/ last post was posted before replying to everything, you may be pointlessly reviving an old thread. | 2011-05-03 00:04:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
Please avoid bumping threads that haven't had any posts for a while, locking thread. | 2011-05-03 00:14:00 Author: warlord_evil Posts: 4193 |
