Fixed Camera

Archive: 9 posts

I've been looking around for a little bit and can't find anything on it.
Basically, I've been trying to make a decent 2D level, with a few failures so far, but regardless...I've come to an idea to make the level into a bunch of 2D Rooms, in which I would have the camera fixed to show the entire room, and then when you finish that room, the camera would move to the next one when you enter it. I can't find a tool that lets you do that.
Is there an option or something, or an object I need to add so that my rooms have fixed cameras? One of my major problems I've had when making my levels is that I don't want to see the outside room. Basically, I only want to be able to see what I've actually created, and none of the default template areas, but I also don't want the player to be able to see secrets or something like that without actually finding them, so I need to be able to make a fixed camera on each room. Does anyone know a way to do that?
I looked around on the forums for a bit before posting, but there's no explicit information on it. Searching "fixed camera" isn't really getting me any results, I get a lot of things with one word, or the other, or both but not in the way I'm looking for, if that makes any sense. Anyone?

Something else that's good to know about cameras is that you can connect a switch to them. Pretty useful huh?

(On a different note, you know there's an edit button right?)

That's good to know, thanks.

No, I didn't know about the Edit button, sorry.

In hopes of stopping myself from creating another topic, may I ask a second question?
Is there a way to get a view like the Front View in the editor, or something similar to that? Since I'm making a 2D level, it would be a nice view to play the level with, it would actually look really good. Any ideas?

no the best you can do is just make the camera stiff, you could try making most of the level only one layer thick to make it more 2D.

Another option you could try would be to put a camera with the veiws you want on a piston machine that follows you throughout the level. If you dont know what im talking about try the "level double jump tech demo" i deffinately didnt make it and i forgot who did(sorry whoever you are ) but it will give you an idea of what im talking about.

That's basically what I've done already. I have cameras basically everywhere that keep the camera on the room and everything is on the front-most layer. I just thought that the Front-Mode camera in the game looks really good on my level, and was hoping I could use that. Oh well. Regardless it looks fine the way it is, just would look better if I could use the other mode. Thanks for the help ^^2009-04-01 02:00:00
