Global Lighting Tool

Archive: 17 posts

So, by now we all know that the Global Lighting Tool will be put into an update. It will control the lighting in a level or the fog/ colour effects etc with the use of switches and itself (either gradually like in act 3, the mission or instantly like in act 5 the boss) . I was wondering if anyone had noticed these before, I had noticed them before but now I can tell that MM have put these in obvious view to make people interested (I didn't think anything of them before).

Here is the image I took in LBP:
http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/vv313/qwertyuiopRANDOM/APhoto.jpg

There is a sensor on the left set to speed and it would be hooked up with wires to the Global Lighting Tool on the right (it obviously is as it has an earth on it). So, with it being on the speed setting it will slowly change the level from night to day. To change the lighting instantly it would just be on 'on/off' or 'one shot'.

Sorry if someone has pointed this out already, I jst thought this would be interesting (seen as it is 100% operational and could be updated any time soon also and this is the first proper image I've seen of it).

Interesting, I never thought of the possibilities of speed on the Global Lighting tool. I can't wait for it to come out though
Come on Mm where is our Yarg?

Yeah, that could be possible.
Also, i don't think they placed it in a visible area just to tease, remember that they never hide their switches and stuff but they could heve also placed it in obvious places for said reason.

Yeah, I know what you mean. But generally with a new concept, that hasn't been described fully to the LBP community, you'd think they would hide it (since this was before the new MM podcasts and information). They would hide it, unless of course they wanted us to be interested in it, or they just thought it was too obvious (the change of level lighting) and that everyone would figure it out anyway. Either way, their plans are working, but that doesn't bother me. I'm really looking forward to this update and it will be a perfect addition to my current in-progress creations.

The MGS pack levels. That photo was took from Act 3- The Mission. You can check it out for yourself if, of course, you have the map pack.

Switches attached to switches?!

The darkness of that level isn't effected by the distance you travel. I think it's timed as when you go until it gets bright and then reverse through the level it remains bright.

Nope that was definately a speed switch atached to the global lighting tool. It was bright white in the left sensor's 'eyes' when I stood next to it and when I stepped as far away as possible and took a photo to see away from the sceen, it was more of a greyish colour.

EDIT: Unless I was imagining it getting more grey (the in- game photos are always darker also) and it was an inverted switch to activate the Mk.II to pop up.

So far i've only discovered 3, One in VR training level, which i don't know why its there, but it is, just check the floor carefully and you'll see it.

Another in Act 3, at the begining in the left corner you should be able to spot this one fairly quickly.

And another one in Act 3, after getting launched by the catapult (1st) look in the wall right after it, you should be able to notice it. (Note how is after crossing this one that the level starts to urn into day.)
I'll see if i can put some pictures of them latter.

One is VR training??
That seems like a bit of a random place! Perhaps that means that the global lighting tool has other options........

I think there must be one at the end of act 5, when Liquid appears as it changes intsantly from night/ fog to day/ clear.

I'm assuming it will have all the functions of the lighting options: day/ night, fog, colour balancer, darkness and fog colour(and other new ones perhapse).

I assumed that the global lighting tool in VRTraining was something to do with making the walls 'glow' while in a specific section of VRTraining - the VRTraining materials only really 'glow' when you put the lighting lower in your level.2009-03-31 09:00:00

Man, I can't wait for this! I wonder how many you can put into a level... if there are 2 in Act 3, then there might not be a limit.2009-03-31 12:15:00

Man I bet the silhouette guy is really happy about this - since MM has said it does all of the lighting effects, day/night light/dark, fog, fog color, etc. He can change the color of his crazy contrasting backgrounds.

Also, I can't wait for scary levels that use this to add fog out of no where and take it away to drop enemies in your lap you couldn't see... Or rotating levels can use time of day and time it just right so the shadows move with the level rotation like the sun is moving too.

Most importantly, I can't wait to put this in to my Kid Rocket's Revenge level since the whole plot is "Stop the crazy rocket scientist's Kid from blocking out the sun and putting the world into an ice age". Scary plot, huh? As of right now, I use HUGE sky blue spot lights to simulate daylight, then have them turn off... which isn't bad looking - but it will be MUCH more polished when this comes out.

Hmmm... I found more like 7 or 8 in that level. It was one in each stage and one in each little room between the stages.
