Laser Levels...

Archive: 13 posts

Hey guys...

I just created this account and also for the last 2 days I just created 3 levels... Quite short I'll admit, but two of them are just short little races and not really a level...

... Laser Race ...
... Laser Race 2 ...
... Laser Force ...

I guess as soon as you enter the levels you'll see why they were so short. They were a little taxing on the thermometer when building them... Especially Laser Force...

Comments are welcome and enjoy!!!

P.S... The 'Laser Show', as I'd like to call it was learnt off a tutorial shown on Youtube somewhere... But don't worry you can claim it, if you ace the Laser Force level...

I tried changing the title to F4F, but I guess it was to late... Oh well...

F4F also guys!!!

EDIT : Noticed that only one person seem to have actually replied to this thread... Please try it... It can't be that bad... LOL! Oh and I've added some pictures below, one for each level...

I just retired all my levels, and straight away relised something... I really gotta put one of those signs in the start of each level, so that no one can join mid game... As these 3 levels are more of a 1 player thing with beating scores as the objective...2009-03-30 09:30:00

Just tried 2 of your levels and loved the design.

As for laser force I thought it looked great and only have 3 problems with it One is my own problem not being able to ace it. I've had several goes and lost 1 life every time. The latest go the only life I lost was on the very last spotlight GRRR!!!

The only technical problems I had was that I had to restart several times bacause the vehicle kept getting stuck even though I stopped exactly where you said to in front of the pink light. Perhaps the vehicle could be very slightly smaller to help it negotiate tight spaces. Once was when I shot down the angled blocks and they seemed to get in the way. Maybe an idea to have those disappear altogether.
The other thing was finding the right place to grab in the cockpit. It only works if you grab to the right or left. Sometimes i kept grabbing the light above. It may be better to remove the light so that you can grab anywhere inside.

As for the laser race level I got really annoyed with that one and gave up after having to restart about a dozen times. The problem was those angled pieces that fall down when you shoot the dissolve away. They kept falling towards me and I got stuck underneath them. It would be better if they fell away from the player or just disappeared completely. It's a shame because I was liking the look of the level

I can't help you with the acing... That's up to you! LOL!

I think the vehicle is gonna struggle to get around the U-Turn corners as I've tweeked it in sizes a few times, before I settled with that one, but I'll look into it and see what I can do man...

I actually agree with you on the vehicle though... I actually played through it a hundred times trying to make sure it doesn't seize or become stuck. And for a while there when testing it over and over, it seemed to be best to always stop with the 'cockpit' lined up with the pink light, specially with the part you have to get out and press the push button, cause for some reason the back wheel would seize up every time and it seemed as though the tank was glued to the wall... Very weird...

Oh and with the blocks on that part with them falling down and being in the way, yeah I agree, I'll just make them tiny little blocks just for the same sort of effect but smaller... LOL!

Yeah, I sort of wanted people to know exactly where they had to be, when driving the tank. (Cause of minimal lighting) I didn't want someone that was very new to the game to struggle... But your right though, it's a bit of a pain. I did state that you had to press forward then R1 though...

With that part it was actually there for that reason... Sort of... When putting it together I wanted some sort of a challenge, apart from shooting the targets, but also watching where your standing when doing so... LOL! I played through it heaps over and over and thought it was quite fitting, for the extra challenge... I guess... But I'll see what others say man...

Thanks for the playthrough and comments bloke! Very much appreciated...

I'll definitely spend some time tweeking the vehicle though, I know what you mean, it is a bit iffy...

Hey mate... I just went and fixed the problem you were having with Laser Race. I got rid of the L shapes that you've been managing to get stuck under, and also got rid of the 'I' shape red block that falls down once activating the 3 rotating stars...

So give it another go mate... Tell me what you think now? All good?...

I believe it`s frowned upon here to bump your threads. If people want to play your levels they will do so. F4F will help this. As will having good levels. However, there are other people on this board who have levels in the showcase section and it`s unfair for your level to be on the front page because you bumped it.2009-05-05 23:57:00

You can chance your level to F4F by customizing the thread and choosing "Advanced". Then, if you give others feedback you can ask them to give F4F on your thread and get more feedback.

But yeah, Matts right - so many levels come through here and some get zero feedback, so just bumping to get to the top of the list is not a good idea.

I played Laser Race 1 & 2 earlier and enjoyed them both. They are both very short, but I think it's okay. The visuals are very good and they are surprisingly detailed for levels that primarily use the MGS neon textures. You do a lot of different patterns with it and it keeps it interesting.

The puzzles and gameplay were fun and I didn't become frustrated at any point. I enjoyed both levels and really dug the design. Nice job!

I can understand where you guys are coming from but have a look at the dates... I bumped this up like a month ago... One day after I made my last post I might add... So don't be thinking I bumped this month old thread up to the front page just recently... As you can see the guy above you two just wanted to let my no he was going to play it...

Thanks mate... I really like the first Laser Race, but I reakon the 2nd one is abit... meh... Have a go at Laser Force it's different from the other two... And isn't any racing till the very end... Which was thrown in there just to finish the level, as the temp level was maxed out near that point... You'll see what I mean...

I've actually already played these levels in the past and I loved the design like so many others have said. First of all the visuals are stunning for what normally would be simple "VR" level. Your use of lighting and the way you mix things together looked nice and really did a good job of keeping me interested.

Usually straight VR levels don't appeal to me this much, but you did a great job with this one.

There were a couple times when I wouldn't be able to make it all the way through though because I fell off the vehicle for whatever reason (controller dies, etc.), but other then that it was great and a lot of fun.

For future levels try to make it more co operative friendly because playing LBP with others is a lot of fun.

Yeah, the level with the vehicle is a bit of a pain at times... But I couldn't fix all the bugs, and to tell you the truth didn't really care whether I did or not... Oh well, was just a few quick levels to get my taste of publishing I guess... LOL!

But yeah, I won't be making any levels like those again, unless I come up with some better ideas, I think I'll try to stick to more adventure, story driven levels from now on (NOT including Bubble Hunter)...
