No Off Screen Death Mode

Archive: 11 posts

I think that in LBP you should have the choice to pick if you want the game to focus on one sackboy and kill the others when off the screen or have it so that other sackboys can run around a way from the flock. This would get complicated with taking over respawn points but i think it would be a great addition to the game.
This would help for exploring levels, racing levels, and free-roaming levels.
Who knows what else?
I think this would be fantastic to have in LBP

Wouldn't that stretch the screen so much that your sackboys are puny, and you can start to see things that are not supposed to be seen? Unless you mean more than one screen, like in most Co-op games.2009-03-30 02:43:00

Yes, that would be great if the screen only foocuses on you while in that mode of course.
Tho when one's way in front and passes the finishing gate, it would be kinda boring to wait for the rest 'till they feel like finishing...

No what i am saying is that when you play ONLINE you wouldn't have to share the screen with the other person, and for local maybe you could have the split screens, like in co-op.

yeah it should be in like game options or something, i always get made when someone falls off an obstacle and the camera follows them and i get killed because im off camera for too long.2009-03-30 05:10:00

I would love this option. Multi-player can be very annoying with the current camera system.

There is one legitimate reason this might never happen though...it would require multiple parts of the level to be loaded and emitting stuff. This might cause major performance issues.

Could be an idea but there are reasons why the game isn't made like this.

First of all, for the checkpoint system to work properly. They are probably engine related questions too. The farther the players, the more things the engine will need to calculate because you aren't all interacting with the same things on the same screen. Splitscreen would demand even more on the engine so I guess that also wasn't an option for them.
I think that keeping players in the same screen also makes things easier and help people actually playing together. Keeps the action centralised.

In short, I really like how they designed the way it's played in multi. I think there would be quite and endless list of easier, more important and gameplay impacting features to be implemented in the game before some "free multi".

Maybe in some LBP 2 ?

I gotta agree with RangerZero. Although the camera does get annoying sometimes, it enforces teamwork... or competition.2009-03-31 12:00:00

If anyone remembers, when the game was being advertised before launch one of the big selling points being touted was that 4 players could play a level together and the camera would pan out to show all players on screen and would not 'kick' a player out if they were lagging behind but like a lot of other things that were promised such as joint creating online etc. it never materialised.

This is the second most annoying thing in the game for me after lag. It really winds me up when I play a level with other players and on the 'rare' occasions it's not impossible to play because of lag I wait for people if they start falling behind and then as soon as they catch up they storm ahead without me and I get killed because i'm about 2 seconds behind them GRRRR!!!!. I know it's probably difficult to implement but why say it's a big feature of the game when it's not even there at all and not even apologise for it's omission to all the gamers who bought the game in good faith expecting loads of features they never got.

That would be great if it were true but unfortunately it doesn't because a lot of players out there simply don't have the common courtesy to wait for other players and even if they do as soon as you get to a part of the level that requires some high jumps on a flipper platform or long drop on a winch it's impossible for all players to do it together.
Take 'The bunker' in the main story for example. Right at the start of that level you have to grab a winch and drop down the long shaft avoiding all the electric. That's virtually impossible with 4 players or even 2 for that matter because you can't possibly all grab the same one at the exact same time, and when anyone does start to go down the camera crazily focuses on the players at the top so the one going down can't see a thing. How stupid is that ?

No denying the idea is great, unfortunately it just doesn't work.

I had the concept for an lbp level,
where 2 players both had their own path,
working together to reach the end point,
but that would both need splitscreen/each player has its own screen and checkpoints you can adress to each player..
(player one gets checkpoint 1, player 2 gets checkpoint 2)
but this is a concept that will always be just a concept..

what they need is have every one with their own separate cameras. like when you play by your self. and make it where you can press L1 to show arrows to the other players off screen2009-04-07 19:57:00
