Delete your BETA level now?

EDIT:

The Gorrillas 6 pack dissolved!?

two of the brains weren't glued on

How exactly is he supposed to kill me?

Would be awesome if the tiger was more dynamic

Maybe change the music for boss?

The dissolving body parts looks weird

I was able to destroy the brain on the players right hand side on the chest, before the armour opened up

What happened to 5 bananas?

I liked the ending on the tracks!

Maybe at the part where the tiger is eating the tracks, have the tracks continue up just after him, to make it more realistic (the tiger isn't THAT hungry)

Level was better than before, but sorry, 3 stars.

Ok, just gave it a go.

I loved the visual style of this level. It's simple, yet cute and has a nice clean look to it. I loved your monkeys - really well done!

A few small changes:

When I grabbed the 2nd banana, I was standing RIGHT where the tree fell and got crushed. Maybe either make the tree fall slowly enough so the player can see it coming, or make the tree a tad shorter so it doesn't overlap the ground so much when it's falling.

The brain on the head of the boss isn't glued.

Something that seemed out of place (this is more of a subjective opinion than a fact, so take it for what you will): The level is fairly easy and short, and would therefore be great for kids.... except that the platforming section to get up the tree would be REALLY tricky for a kid (I had my 7-year-old try, and he's pretty decent at LBP, and he got frustrated). The difficulty of this particular part of the level seems really inconsistent with the difficulty of the rest of the level.

If this level is meant more for kids, you could adjust the difficulty of this section by making the spinning platforms grabbable and space the moving ones further apart and making the tops grabbable.

Also, since the level is fairly short and you may have some thermo left - I would suggest adding a few "spinning things, throw you up in the air and grab points" diversions along the way which would really push this level over the top for kids.

All in all, I thought it was well done, but could use some of those tweaks. I saw it had a 2 star rating on it (which is UNBELIEVABLY unfair). I'm thinking some really little kids got a hold of it first.... I gave it 5 stars and a heart and kicked the rating at least up to 3. My feeling is right now it's a 3 star level based on length and polish - but with some additional work could be a fantastic fun 4 star level.

Ok, the boss is not exactly difficult to defeat, but is that really a huge problem? CCubbage didn't seem to think so - plus, this level is more cartoon-y and pretty easy too sooooo

Tree is now fixed (had a lot of problems in the BETA version with this) so it should be fine now

The brain on the head of the boss isn't glued.

Rooky mistake by me That's done now aswell

Something that seemed out of place (this is more of a subjective opinion than a fact, so take it for what you will): The level is fairly easy and short, and would therefore be great for kids.... except that the platforming section to get up the tree would be REALLY tricky for a kid

Took most of the ideas to change it that you said, and it is now much easier

Also, since the level is fairly short and you may have some thermo left - I would suggest adding a few "spinning things, throw you up in the air and grab points" diversions along the way which would really push this level over the top for kids.
Added another tree stump that throws people up in the air and I plan to add more if I can think of it (I made the tracks out of glass on the last bit because I thought children would like it)

Thanks a lot, great feedback and I feel my level is really looking much better now!

I'll give it another shot. I went back a little bit ago (before you changed anything) and did notice one more small issue: After you get off the train (where the tiger is eating the track) if you head left and fall you kill the player with gas... problem is, the player hasn't gotten a check point yet which means they are put back at the beginning... but the train is gone. I would suggest either a) putting a check point as soon as they get off the tiger, or b) block them from running to the left and falling after getting off the train.

Next time I get the chance I'll have my son play through it and see what he thinks now with the new changes.

From what I've heard it sounds great with the changes, and I like the look of that Gorrila boss.

I just managed to finish my new music level last night. Its for a music contest on here. Maybe you could give it a shot, Its called Making music in he midnight kitchen. And if you wanna give feedback just post it in my project thread. I havent got a showcase as of yet ?_@

Hey, just went through and checked out your changes and they worked nicely.

One thing as just a safe-guard against someone breaking the train ride (I think my son took his finger off the r1 grab briefly and broke the ride) - you COULD pick up the checkpoint and place it at the end of the train ride and put gas all the way across under the train so that if someone breaks the ride and falls they get placed at the end if you wanted to fool-proof it.

Actually, that is a very good idea. I think I will definately do that. There is already gas all the way underneath the tracks so all I would have to do is get the check point to move
Thanks a lot Ccubbage!

Thanks again to anyone who played the level, I updated it with the following additions:
Easier platforming section before boss battle
If you break the ride, you will now be respawned after the tiger (just in time to talk to the monkey)
When the monkey picks you up at the end, you cannot land underneath the tracks
Brains are fully connected to the gorilla boss
New side section for collecting extra points!

I just realised how similar in style my level is to your very own Animal Zoo level Pitcard
Anyway, I updated somemore (very minor things) such as a gorilla that had not been glued down now is etc.
Anyway, thanks again for the feedback guys
Still doing a lot of F4F's (I've already done all the ones for the feedback so far).

I just played your level and thought it was great.

Pros:
- Cute, simple and original
- That part with the roller coaster was really cool!
- I liked the animals that you met along the level
- Nice platforming elements
- Simple yet fun boss

Cons:
- It was quite short
- I was confused on where to go at some points
- For the boss one of the brains was still not connected properly (am I playing the wrong version or something?)

I found your level cute, fun, simple and great! I would give this level a 4 stars. Looking forward to play your future levels!

I really liked the level. The coaster was fun, and the tiger was pretty well made.

The elevator, however, had some problems. It stopped working whenever it went all the way up or all the way down. This made it annoying to get the prize bubbles, and I had to restart a couple of times.

Really? I haven't had this problem before......
It should work........

What a great level!

I liked how you had a story, in my view all levels with stories (that make sense) are great, and this was! I loved how you had slight 'intro' to the level, with the rollercoaster ride. I didn't really like the tiger at the end though, he looked a bit weird. But the scenery was great, it had a very cute charm about it. The boss was pretty cool, yet very easy to defeat, with no actual danger. Maybe make more bananas get thrown, and have them electrified or on fire.

Overall great level, 5 stars and a heart!

Just checked it out. it's really cute! I love the coaster bit and was impressed by the design of the rails and the coaster. Great color and it has a fun, playful design to it. The tiger is interesting too. I like how you've got the optical illusion of the head as one piece but it's in two pieces. The details in that first section of the track are just great. The tree area is a lot more simple and while it's nicely done it's a bit plain compared to the front half of the level. I also wandered a bit in the tree area. It's not as clear which direction to go compared to other parts of the level but it might have just been me. The gorilla is funny - not hard at all - which I personally don't have a problem with.

Overall a really fun level to play with some nice design work! I gave it 4 stars and a heart. Thanks for sharing it.

Thanks for those comments Morgana and Cog. It seems that some people are having a little trouble with where to go in that tree section so I'll put in a subtle arrow or something
As for the detail......I'll definately try to put more in

Hey there... I played this level this morning. I really liked it a lot. It was definitely fun to play. - You got 5 stars and a heart from me... A few thoughts...

I liked the coaster section, but wish there was more. The looping section was very cool.

As far as things you might want to fix:

When you grab the second banana, and the tree falls you hear a cracking sound... The problem is that you can hear the sound again after the tree is down... You may want to put the grab switch on the banana set to a permanent switch... Use the permanent switch to trigger the breaking sound, so it only can happen once.

Other than that, I thought the boss was really cool, but he didn't put up much of a fight...

It's a fun and easy level, your gorilla boss is a bit too easy to kill though.
Although I was killed by his armpit
I disliked your tiger, he looks a bit odd.
Your monkey is hilarious though counting those bananas lol
I gave it 4 stars and called it Fun.

Okay, Coxy - I decided to give this one another run through since some changes had happened.

Because of the nature of this level, I decided to have my son play it and I watch.

Love the changes - the decorations look great and really add to the atmosphere.

Where my son is concerned, he gives it two thumbs up for almost the entire level, but the jumping up the tree bit was still too hard for him. He would get about half way up (or even most of the way), and fall almost all the way down. Finally he handed me the controller and said "you do it".

This one little area, I fear, will prevent some kids from finishing. It's entirely up to you, but you may want to either a) put a checkpoint halfway up the tree or b) when you get to a certain point emit a platform all the way across so someone can only fall down so far or c) make some of the platforms half way up go all the way to the edge so it's much more difficult to fall way down.

Keep in mind, my son is a pretty decent player. My Dante's Temple level has some pretty careful jumps, and he can make it all the way through. I think it's just the "close quarters" of trying to jump UP and back and forth and stop fast combination (Sackboy is kind of floaty...). Many times with kids they can run and jump up pretty well, but the combination of having to slow in midair and drop without continuing to move in that direction is much more difficult.

Regardless, I love this level and definately think it has an audience.

Thanks again guys for the positive comments. Having some trouble implementing recent changes because I accidentally broke the level at one point.

Just so everyone is clear, these are the changes that I plan to get done:
Arrows added in certain places
Tree section made easier (most likely via a platform going al the way across half way through)
Cracking sound ony heard once by the secon banana
More detial (such as visible background trees) in the section within the treehouse

And to CornontheCOD - is this happening everytime you play, because I very rarely have this problem (and I play my level a lot!)
Just make sure you are playing the finished version (as opposed to Coastin' in the jungle BETA which doesn't seem to be actually locked for some reason........)

EDIT
Level updated with most of the above changes.
I have made the tree climbing section much easier, with a platform going across about half way up the tree (and also a new jungle bar for y'all to check out - and you will laugh when you see them )
Thanks to anyone who has played the level

Yeah, I saw the jungle bar last night. Great stuff! These are the little "details" that really make a level.

I had the roller coast break once just like cornontheCOD said, but it was only once.

Someones when this kind of thing can happen I will add a "backup plan" to a level. So, maybe if the coaster breaks make it possible to walk the rest of the way. Just test by purposely letting go of the sponge and hopping off the coaster in the middle.

Well, a nice gentle level with plenty of fun bits.

Pros:
- cute and colourful, if you like that flavour
- ascending the rotating platforms was frustrating, but I approached this section with a determination to succeed rather than a willingness to give in...and that's a fun kind of frustration in my book.
- nice use of hidden score bubbles for the avid secret hunter to find.

Cons:
- The boss isn't much of a threat to you
- The elevator section...it's possible to fall down and find yourself unable to get back up.
- you should work on the aesthetics of your models. Those bananas are particularly ugly. There's actually a great premade banana from the story levels which you could use if you're not too confident about modelling.

Nice use of a coaster as an opening of a level. They should be an integral part of a level not the whole thing. Wow nice the using two diffrent planes to create a tiger is brilliant idea. I really enjoyed the level good humour nice and cartoony. I can't find any fault 5* hearted. Trying your other levels now.2009-04-18 16:30:00

All wobble bolts are now invisible (thank you Yarg!)
More prize bubbles have been hidden
New sticker switch puzzle
Two new stickers
More scenery added

All this, and the spotlight, means that now is the best time to play Coastin' in the Jungle (even if you've played it before )

Okay Coxy224, I finally got around to playing your level yesterday!
It was a lot of fun and certainly deserved the spotlight!!

Pros:
+ Cute and fun visual style
+ Great humour
+ Nice platforming elements
+ The roller coaster was fun, it's nice to just see one in there instead of an entire lvl built around it.
+ Great bossfight
+ Hilarious in multiplayer

Cons:
- I got stuck between the rollercoaster track on several occasions but it's not a big deal.

Gave it 5 stars and a well deserved heart!!
Good job, Coxy224!!

I've been meaning to make the tracks more.......friendly for people who fall off!

Anyway, with create pack 1 out, I've now managed to add in the Global Lighting tool so as you climb it gets steadily foggier and then as you slide at the end, the fog starts to disappear

Just played it, I do think it was a bit too short. I was also disappointed by the things that "went wrong" on this safari. It wasn't exactly dangerous as the description suggests.

Apart from that, though, ignoring the lack of danger the level itself was REALLY fun. I loved the platforming and the art style worked beautifully with the light, happy mood of the level. I especially liked the section inside the tree. The monkey bar was awesome!

So yeah basically just get rid of the whole "can you survive?" thing and it's all good.

Yeah, I've never been great with the whole description things!
I'll most likely change that. Also, I was considering (as suggested by DKjestrup) to continue the tracks on a little after the tiger (just a 2D layer in the front). Anyone think it would work?

K, im playing your level now, and I will point out any flaws along the way, and will have plus ( + ) and ( - ) points. Hey it looks like a, you know. <cough> <ahem> Back on topic, then.

+ Very nice style and presentation.

+ Loved the way the heads came down on the coaster.Although, when I was typing, I wasnt holding R1, so I flew off my seat. Thats not a flaw, its just the darned - realistic physics.

- Oops - flaw now- Me and my bro were in the coaster - holding on - I was in the front, bro at very back, and it kinda flipped at the Loop De' la' Loop. Ah, worked this time.

+ Just noticed the excellent Tiger, you used black panther stickers for the stripes, very imaginative, well done.

- You could run under the tiger, off the edge into dangerous gas. Maybe this was intentional.

+ Loved the presentation of the cave, and the way the arrow rotated to point you the right way.
[/color]
+ The platforming bit when you exited the cave was pleasingly satisfying - both not too hard and not too easy. Well done!

+ The same is also said for the moving platforms bit.

- When the monkey tells you to climb the moving platforms, you can jump off the edge.

- At the monkey king battle, if yuo jump on his left arm, and up to the monkey on the left throwing things at you, you left an emitter visible AND you can see some Dark Matter to your left. I also suggest putting a prize behind the monkey throwing something at you.

- I did find the final glass slide bit was a tad bare, but im just nit - picking. Ewwie - nits!

+ Did you use a global switch on the final glass slide bit? If you did, it was put to excellent use.

Overall, very excellent job, mate! 5 stars and a heart!

7 Pros! 5 Flaws!

What a great level you've got here Coxy! I was pleasantly surprised to find that you had mixed a roller coaster with a platforming level. Loved the humor, loved the originality and various platforming elements. I found the boss to be a bit too easy for my tastes, but that's just my opinion. There was a visible emitter around the monkey at the boss fight. The level flows perfectly from start to finish and it's great fun and accessible to all player skill levels. Great job on the hidden prizes, definitely need to get back and try it with more multiple players. Gratz on a job well done. 2009-04-27 21:24:00

Just got round to playing this level before I toddled off to work.

+Beautiful design and environment.
+Platforming was a nicely balanced, difficulty wise.
+Nice mounts of hidden bubbles and treasures (Dunno if I'm still there, but I remember getting second on the scoreboard )
+Yay for sticker-easter egg!
-Final boss was unfortunately way too easy in my opinion. I know it was more of a casual level as the name would imply, but there didn't seem to be any threat at all. Maybe increase the amount of coconuts thrown? Iunno.
- *Nitpick/Spoiler alert* The bar-monkey could do with a slightly bigger proximity radius. Was a teensy-weensy bit annoying to have the multiplier interrupted by him after placing the sticker.

Again, sorry it took a while, access to the PS3 has been unexpectedly rare the past couple 'o days.

Just finished playing and I had a fun time! Some thoughts:

Highlights:
+ Simple visual style that matches the cartoon like theme of the level
+ Great creature design (loved the monkeys!)
+ Cool roller coaster opening
+ Lots of secret bubbles and prizes

Suggestions
- The boss was a bit easy, but I wasn't too bother by that. It was still fun.
- Someone else pointed out that the final slide was a bit bare, I tend to agree. In my opinion, it'd be cool if you could hop in the coaster again and blast off to the finish.

This was a cute and fun level. I enjoyed it. Nice job!

played this last night, some thoughts...

pros:
- visual style is great and cute
- animals are very nicely done, love the monkey and the tiger
- the level is fun to play

cons:
- pretty short level
- had a bit the idea you've put the last part in (glass) to finish the level quickly...
- was a bit annoyed by the platform parts at the tree (where some move and some don't)

all in all i thought it was a very nice level, gave it 4* and tagged it as cute.

Thoughts as they happen:

- Small thing. Right at the start, I`d throw in a bump or two in the ground. Right now it`s very flat. Maybe even have the 3 layers doing different things.
- The coaster is very well made. Super smooth and the loop the loop was perfect.
- The further I get in, the more I see that there are a lot of flat edges. I bit of uneven ground goes a long way in setting a scene. Especially when you`re inside a tree.
- The ascent in the tree was just the right amount of tricky.
- A well made boss, though he didn`t really do too much.

All in all, it`s a good level. The 'roller coaster level gone wrong' thing is a new one to me. If I was to have one criticism it would be about the visual aspect. It has a very plain look to it. I think by taking the corner editor to those straight lines and have them jut out occasionaly would go a long way.
Also I would recommend varying up the wood that you use. The one on show for most of it is a very smooth wood more suitable to furniture. 'Weathered green wood' imo looks far better as a tree. Especially on the scale you have them in this level.
Aside from that it`s a fun level.

5 stars and a 'cute' tag.

Thanks again for the feeback everyone, I can feel my level getting even better by the day!
For everyone who commented that my boss was easy (which was everyone):
The boss has now been upgraded to be slightly harder!

I just played it in response to your feedback and I would it was a really well done, enjoyable level. Perfect for kids, as others have said - when my girlfriend's family come round I'll definitely play your level with her younger sister. The cartoony style was fun, clean, and worked, so kudos for that.

I had two very minor issues - I had a lot of trouble getting my head around the tiger at the start, I couldn't tell what was what or anything, but maybe it was just me. I jumped back to get a better perspective and ended up stuck under the rollercoaster, but I suspect that'd be a very rare occurence.

Overall fantastic work - I gave it a rating of 5 and accidently hit the creepy tag when I meant to go to the next page, but hey, atleast your level may show up if someone searches for the 'creepy' tag now

Edit: I forgot to mention that I love the little secrets, anything that rewards the player who explores a bit instead of simply rushing through is great.

Thanks, I'm really glad that you'll play it with your girlfriends sister

Thanks again for the feedback

Fantastic level, very colourful and cheerful! Played it with Zwollie a couple of weeks ago, and here's what I have to say:

+ Nicely coloured...
+ Cheerful mood and atmostphere.
+ Great fun!
+ The rollercoaster was a nice way to kick things off.

Very nicely done, I guess you've heard all the suggestions off everyone else so I won't give any. 5 stars.

I played through a second time a little while ago, and here are my thoughts.

I think the idea of a jungle safari gone wrong is cool.
I thought the fact that any survivors are asked to recommend the ride to their friends was funny.
The monkey behind the bar was funny too.

I agree with some other reviewers that the tracks should be continued after the broken part by the tiger, just so it looks like they were supposed to go somewhere had all gone well.
The boss is cool. I don't personally think every level needs brutal difficulty to be fun, so the fact that he was a little easy didn't bother me. I DO think he would look better with some details, like knuckles on his fists, some cool shading, and stuff like that.

Really, my main criticism would be that it could stand to be a little more detailed throughout. I think the basic design is pretty good though.
There is that part where you can get crushed by the falling branch, but I actually think that's hilarious.

Good work overall, just could use some polish on the visuals.
Four stars.

Thanks for playing through
I had been planning to add more detail (and I still have plenty of thermo) but a lot of things got in my way. When I get more time I'll try to put in the detail

Hey coxy, I just got to your level a second ago, i liked it. I really liked how fast/smooth the ride was at the start. .It also seemed like you help the monkey more then it helps you, but that doesnt matter at all lol. I like the design of your level, the monkeys and stuff. Some of the jumps were sort of difficult specifically after you meet the monkey in the tree, then you fall out it. Skipping to the Monkey boss, it wasnt too innovative, it felt like it was just there. The boss is my only real problem with the level, and the six pack disappears...Maybe the bananas took their toll? Over all though i liked it, nice job.2009-05-17 23:44:00

lol, thanks. I'm not really one for creating innovative, fun bosses. So it's no big suprise it made little sense - thanks for the feedback.

EDIT: Video added - thanks Cog
