Plane shifting complex objects

Archive: 11 posts

I have some how shifted my large and detailed 'Bridge' from the front 2 planes (leaving the back thin and thick layers open) to the back 2 planes. I do know that L1 - L2 shift items in the layers I am sure most of you have had this happen to you. I am trying to shift it back and it wont do it no matter what I have removed. Does anyone know which items have to be removed before it will plane shift?

I am including a 2 pic *Sneak peak!* So maybe you can help me figure this out.

If you have any ideas what it is getting hung up on I would love to know. There is no dark matter present either as this whole rig moves! (evil grin) Yes I did copy the whole rig and try to paste as new object it the correct layer and it wouldn't do that either

Thanks in advance!

Well, maybe it crashes with somthing in the front or you glued it with something in the front plane or that is attached to something that is glued to the floor.
Try checking that everything in it just takes 2 planes and that they are in the same plane.
Also try shrinking it some then try and move it, if it works then just make it its regular size again.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work. I tried to make sure the front layer was completely free, I tried to shrink it but couldn't, I could only make it bigger, but that didn't help, tried it with and without the grid...

I am purplexed...

*I am going to make a copy and take off things until it moves will post here what the problem was *

In the bottom picture you can see the square covers with the plus sign in the middle for some reason they were holding it up (wait those werent glued down...maybe that was it?)

I don't know about solid objects, but if you have any switches attached to it, that could be the problem. I can't shift thin layers usually if there's a switch on it...or maybe that's for making it thicker/thinner?2009-03-28 20:52:00

I did have switches on it but I took them off 1st as I know how they are.

I did get it fixed! It was (I believe) the items that weren't glued down had to be moved forward first. Once I did that everything was fine...although there was something wrong with those panels. I just copied and deleted the originals.

Thanks though.

Yeah, that would do it. To avoid that in the future drag the cursor box over the whole thing. (Hold down X)2009-03-28 23:52:00

I have a lot of problems with pistons when I try to shift things. They won't shift because the objects the pistons are attached to won't.

One thing to try would be to select the whole complex object and copy it and place it somewhere not in the way.... Then delete the old one, and then copy the new one, placing it where you want it, then deleting one you no longer need. A pain, but it could work.

He sounds smart, maybe you should listen to him? (Oh wait...)

I generally take the entire complex area and create an object from it, THEN place it back in. The create mode treats objects differently, so if it's multiple sets of material attached with a piston and you save the whole thing as an object and re-insert it, you should then be able to select any part of the object and plane-shift it.

Usually I have an "objects level" which has all of the original objects I am creating. I then create objects and place them in the level and shift them to whatever plane is neceessary.

Yeah, agree with the last post - this has saved me endless frustration many times!2009-03-30 10:27:00

There could be a lose item inside your object ( it can get caught) you want to switch plane. Also, unpause the game. But i bet you know these already.2009-04-02 13:34:00
