A cool little fact about plasma balls

Archive: 29 posts

(Just to get this out of the way, yes MARKLIN I searched the forums, so I apologise if someone has found this already)

"Plasma" is similar to fire, electric, and gas, in that it is just lethalised material. This means you can de-lethalise it, and get a "blank" ball. This ball can also be made into fire or electric, but not gas.

The thing about this is, it still gets deleted when you step on it. So if you make a large grid, it gives a cool effect when you jump through it (It leaves a "trail").

Just thought I'd post this here, see what you can do with it.

And one final thing; I'd like to see a "plasmify" tool!

That has some cool potential! I'll have to play around to see If I can make it work - then what the heck to do with it. Thanks for pointing it out!2009-03-28 17:28:00

I discovered this when trying to find a new way to do the "Cow Glitch". It's very cool.2009-03-28 17:55:00

If you glue a deleathalized plasma ball to an object, when you run into the plasma ball the object will dissappear (without any smokey effects),2009-03-28 17:58:00

This looks quite interesting, I'll look at it the next time I'm on PS3.

And...If you want to freeze your PS3:

Capture a paintball by pausing in create mode (it will stay in the air so you can capture it), spawn it and make it very big, finally go above it, land on it and resume play mode. Should freeze your PS3- not recommended by me.

LOL it freezes your PS3??

This means you can't open the XMB anymore? 'Cause otherwise it means it's only the game that is frozen.

Sorry, but seriously that thread title and the claims you did in the thread were pretty misleading.

Anyway, that's a really cool glitch, definitely gonna try it out when i get back to lbp (if i will be able to put killzone down for a while, it's really frustrating to be only a few hours from completing your second level but still not being able to complete it due to serious killzone addictiveness...).

I've tested it and it works good, nice find, couldn't get the 'trail' to appear though.2009-03-30 23:24:00

I think what he means by the trail is that, if you make a big grid full of the balls, you'll be able to see where Sackboy has gone. The balls that are gone will show the trail.

Yeah, found this glitch some time ago actually, too bad you can't edit it to make it like a floor or something, it would be an awesome dissolveable material substitute.2009-03-31 01:22:00

I didn't think of that. Thanks!

How the heck do you make them into a background though? Like in the Red Zone, by that guy who does the forced side scrolling levels.2009-04-02 23:40:00

Thats too handy! I'm loving how you can make non-dissolve objects disappear through so many ways now, just stick one of these on it and if it hits something the object should disappear.. or maybe it only works if you touch it. Either way, this will definitely be useful.2009-04-03 00:03:00

That's a very cool thing to know. I might want to test this trick out on create mode. You could do some cool things with this.2009-04-05 16:52:00

I've just had a brainwave!

I posted a suggestion a while ago about collision switches - this could be used to make a primitive (albeit clunky) version - emitters that spawn a block with a plasma ball in it inside a slot, the block has a key and there's a switch on the object. When you or an object collides, the key disappears, triggering the switch. It would be clunky though.

EDIT: And OMG THX 4 TEH THX!

I've been messing around with these for quite sometime. You can do all sorts of things with them. You can color them with stickers, put mag keys on em, make platforms and barriers if you emit them rapidly. I've was using them as a non-lethal plasma door in a level I'm working on but decided to scrap it because of the annoying sound they make when emitted.2009-04-06 20:49:00

One of the best uses for plasmas I've seen was Sirenrose's most recent level - the final boss was terrifying looking, but had tons of plasma balls shooting at you - each with a little flower stuck to it.2009-04-06 20:56:00

Oh my god I have to play that level.

And thanks for the info Jaeyden, but whaddya mean about emitting fast?

Set the emitter to shoot them at a high velocity and set the life so that they disappear in kind of a "wall of unlethal plasmas" and you can have them hold you up or not let you through an entrance.2009-04-06 21:00:00

I've found plasma balls to make excellent obstacles - should you die from contact with the plasma, things automatically get easier to conquer because of the removed hazard.

The usual penalties still apply (no more acing, 5% off your score) so it's still fair towards the players who navigate the obstacle without dying, but the frustration potential is hugely reduced.

(Edit: static, non-moving plasma balls, no emitters, should have tried to be clearer on that.)

After reading this I thought I'd try deleathalizing a plasma ball and relethalizing it with fire. Thinking this would make a neat little projectile that only kills you if you get hit twice in close succession.

Doesn't work - you die on the first contact. This makes me sad Also for some reason I can't make a de lethalized plasma ball into horrible gas, but I didn't want to do that anyway

Oh, that's sad, i wanted to do that too.
But i heard that you can lethalize paint balls, then you can get kind of the same effect, except that it looses all those cool plasma ball physics and leaves a paint mark where it splatters.

Plasma balls do have the weirdest physics... No drag, no gravity, etc...2009-04-08 08:04:00
