And I still have to understand this thing of the odd wrist LBP333.

Oh yeah, it's just an odd wrist arch that makes it hard for me to place my fingers firmly on the strings. It's hard to explain, but I usually have to tuck my elbow into my stomach to play(depending on the guitar), odd. On the flip side, it helps with drawing a lot...

Soorry for the doule post, bump or whatever, but it's important, for me at least
So, I got quite annoyed that the tuners of my Schecter are lame-ish and strings get easily out of tune, so I want to put some Locking Tuners.
I would like to use Sperzel'e ones but it seems that are sold in 6 pieces packs, while I need 7 obviouly.
Can someone see if there's some shop in their Country that sells 7 pieces packs ore single ones?
Thanks a lot in advance.

Sorry man, I checked around and they only sell them in bundles of 6 around here.

Yeah, I love trying to play the beginning on my drummer's set, gets petty intense though lol.

I can only imagine how hard the guitar must be (although I hear that it's one of their easier songs to play, for what that's worth )

Thanks a lot for taking your time do check it for me Whaaaale! (I'm sorry I wrecked in your mouth by the way...)
I searched around and it seems that Sperzel stuff doesn't fit baritone guitars, so everything is quite pointless.
I searched a lot and found some tips from lutists to keep the strings from slipping.
Anyway, hopefully today I will be going to buy two set of strings and restring both the 7-string Schecter and see if the lutist trick works, and the XPT 700 that should arrive today (keeping fingers crossed)
I think I will have to under go the whole setup on the Xiphos, complete with setting the neck, because it was equipped with 0.10 - 0.49 and I will put 0.09 - 0.42.
OMG It will take me a good part of the week end.

Awww, so cute, the Looney Toones guitar
I can't really appreciate Fenders, I don't like Gibson either, but between a Stratocaster and a Les Paul I think I would pick up a Les Paul.
(I had a Squire and played real Stratos lots of times so yeah I know what I'm talking about, I never played Gibsons though)
Stratos have weird necks, an unconfortable bridge and, just like Gibsons, at my hear they sound like entry phones
Worse of all, they really seems instruments that are put together without much care, that's incredible that both Fender and Gibson don't make a new guitar from ages, just sitting on their thrones giggling at themselves.
Tech improvements would be a cool thing, even because lutery has taken really big steps, and I find pointless to buy a guitar that is styled as vintage but has not the wood of a vintage.
And they're very expensive while don't offer top notch pick-ups or bridges or whatever.
My 2 cents.
Sorry for bashing your purchase Mr_T-Shirt.

Well, it's the first guitar I've purchased by myself and im very happy with it!

My dream guitar is a Fender Jaguar though, you seen those? Mmmm nice!

Hey, I'm kidding, I respect other tastes.
And then every guitar has its own distinctive sound, and it's good that way.

You shouldn't have to reset the neck just do change the string guage by that much...

Yeah, I know but I bought it used.
Can't wait for that baby, it has a delay of 3 days on the delivery and if it doesn't arrive tomorrow, I will have it on Monday...I can get crazy
It has been played only for 5 months and it has been untouched for like 1 year, so I think that a good whole setup it's the best thing I can do, I have to check the intonation too.
I so want to shred it as soon as I can, but it's a pain I had to endure.
LOL, I just finished the neck setup of my Schecter, I played just as it got out of the factory, and never thought that the neck was bent
I'm the kind of guy that plugs and play...
It had a quite high action, but I didn't mind since I had to restart from scratch, and was thinking: "Good! The hardest it is, the better I will have to practice", you know like those martial arts movies where people puts weights on the wrist to make excercises LOL
And thought that a 7 string should have had an high action...
Well, today I checked the action with an electronic caliper and the action was 0.46 mm at the 12th fret and 0.58 at 24th LOOOOOOOOOOOL
Almost a classical guitar...
I must say that tapping and sweeps were quite hard to pull out
I said, F!!!, so I got home and set the neck properly now...just to change the strings since I blasted the 1st string in the process.

She has arrived...<3
She's so tiny, and brilliant, and I want to hug her...

EDIT: I worked on her and made her speak...
OMG!!!
It's incrediblle, she actually screams like nothing I have ever heard.
She has a so powerful and clean tone with an incredile sustain.
Unfortunately I couldn't set her properly since, being a used gear she has some flaws.
The bolt on the mid strings locker is weared down but workable, and the upper screw on the spring thingy behind the edge is unworkable, but it's something that the lutist can change without problems.
But as I said the edge lies a bit on it's back and I couldn't do anything to raise it.
She's a joy to play, unbelievable.

Awesome

Last night I saw Joe Satriani play in Times Square here in NYC. Amazing of course, with a surprise - John Petrucci showed up at the end to play Summer Song with him! That was the most random thing, but I can't complain

Aw that stinks! He's awesome.

The hilarious part about the show was that the whole venue is now fully seated (Kind of don't like that ) but one guy decided to have one man mosh pit/rave and ran around the whole area moshing with himself and waving a glowstick around, I think he pre-gamed a little bit.....

I made an audible! I had my money set on a PRS Singlecut Korina, but something changed my mind. I was bored yesterday so I ran up to a local guitar store to mess around with a few guitars. There hanging on the wall was a Tele with an unnaturally beautiful burst. American made, and sings like an angel. After playing it, I slept on the question of which guitar I should get. Ran up to the local place and bought the tele for $625 (A STEAL!). Now I just need an amp...

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=28600
Her name's "Evangelina the Elegant" or "Eva" for short.

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=28599
Here's a clearer pic of the guitar.

It's funny because I hate Telecasters, but this one was amazing! Perfect action, perfect tone, and an absolutely beautiful burst. I couldn't help myself, I had to have her...

I never got the point of making a custom LP (or any guitar for that matter). If you want a Les Paul get a Les Paul, if you want to make a guitar, make it from scratch. I hope to have enough money so that, if not next year, than the year after, I can create my own guitar. (Working on concept art and specs at the moment). The only real benefit I see from DIY builds, is the paint job.

BTW, I was wondering; What are the woods?

I so want a toy guitar, and decided to spare money to buy a LES PAUL-ish one.
It won't ever be a Les Paul because I don't like how they sound and they're too expensive for what they offer IMHO
So I decided I'll go for this one, Ibanez Art

Well, in fact I was bought the kit for my birthday one year, the dealer had run out of both the ES model and LP Junior, so I went for the third on my list. The fact that it is an LP is completely irrelevant. I only wanted a kit for the challenge and joy of actually making my own guitar, instead of buying one.
BTW, I believe the wood is called Flame Maple.

Awesome tele I love teles

I will have pictures up of my stuff as soon as I can, it's been a wild ride the last few days.

Also: What effects do you people use, if any? I pretty much always play direct through my mesa rect-o-verb but I do have a BOSS DD-6 Delay and CS-3 compressor ... which I want to replace. It's kind of noisy and not that good.

And question - I plug my DD-6 into my Mesa's effects loop and nothing happens, no matter what the mix level on the back is :/ Am an I an idiot or did something bork?

*Assembling

I wouldn't call it MAKING the guitar unless you created a custom design, picked the woods, and it was all made by hand. I think it's just more personal that way. Still, assembling a guitar is a lot more personal than buying one off the wall . Best of luck to you in your work!

I also wanted to ask (if anyone knows); Can Northern Ash be used as a top for a guitar? Or will it create problems with resonance ? Just asking because I've never seen an Ash topped guitar.

I used to play in a band with this guy who had made his own guitar.
he paid ?1000 for a week long course on guitar making (which included all materials & room & board); And at the end of the week he had his own custom guitar, tailor-made for himself. You couldn't buy one cheaper than that, especially considering the quality (of both the constituent parts and the final product);

I was seriously considering doing it myself.

I think the neck was a pre-fab - as the individual spacings in frets is where it can all go horribly wrong... but the rest he made himself.

It was tailor made by him, for him. So it fit him perfectly... all the measurements were based on his finger width/arm length etc so it couldn;t have been 'more' comfortable for him to play.

It was a bit on the small side for me though

So...As I said I was going to buy an Ibanez RBM from 1994...I found it very cheap...300 € / 400 $.
It's an Ibanez signature, so it's a top tier guitar.
The problem is that is flawed, it has a bad crack on the body.
Everything else is perfect and the golden hardware is mint.
If I would buy it I would surely bring it to the lutist to repair the body.
What do you guys think? What would you do? Please help me

Crack? I see where the finish has been chipped off, but I'm not seeing an actual crack. If That's all it is, Snap that sucker up, and buy some glossy blue/black nail polish.

- on the other hand, from the skuff marks, it looks like it may have been dropped on it's jack. you may want to check that.

Finally it's at home...
When I opened the case I was a bit disappointed.
The instrument had clearly fallen and has some other really tiny marks.
The truss cover is missing, the 2 way switch that splits the humbackers is FUBAR, and the cover behind the guitar, the one that covers the springs of the Floyd is missing too (how is it called in English btw?)
Then I started to strum it and a big smile was stamped on my face.
The neck is awesome, it has a strange feeling, it seems...GUMMY...can't explain it in another way, but it's really comfortable, fast, easy and with a solid grip...great for tappings and legatos.
Then now at home I plugged it and...it's so vintage '90...it has a sound that's coming out directly from records like Rust In Peace or Countdown To Extinction, and I love it.
I will have to fork some money to put into shape again, but it's a great piece of instrument and I'm definitely very happy

You can't go wrong with a PRS. They have a ton of character and are worth the price. Wish I had the means to get a PRS Tonare Grand, such a beautiful acoustic guitar, and it sounds...amazing to say the least.

I personally don't like the bird inlays. They are too dynamic to be on a wide variety of guitars. It takes away from the appeal. The crescent moon inlays however are beautiful, especially on the Korina.

Just got a new acoustic baritone guitar, have any of you ever played a baritone (electric or acoustic). They sound great!2011-01-27 22:19:00

Never played an Agile, though they remind me Schecter a lot.
I'm planning to buy an 8 string guitar by June I think, if I don't find some cool deal involving Ibanez signature first.
Anyway I'll buy an Ibanez RGA8...an 8 string with a trenolo bridge and not a locked one is stupid.
A friend of mine damaged the body of his Ibanez Jem 555 using a 0.12 - 0.52 on it.
So a guitar with a wood that is not top class won't ever hold all the traction of 8 strings without damaging the body.

My Schecter is a baritone.
I quite love it.
It needs some time to get used to it, but it's not bad at all.

I'm not very good yet I've only been playing for a year but I know a couple of solos and stuff...lol
Right now I have BC Rich Trace Warbeast...I'm not sure how good of a guitar that is though >_<
Does anyone know if I should try to upgrade it or find something better? =/

My bud played a squire for 4-5 years before getting his 7 string (he was very talented imo by then). Really, it's up to you. I think it's relatively pointless to start buying new stuff if you're "not very good yet" because you've "only been playing for a year"

That being said, 'skill level' is subjective, so don't think that you have to become 'good' before getting new stuff. Really, I'd only get something new if that instrument isn't suiting your needs (you dislike the tone/feel/want to move into extended range guitars, etc). If it still plays fine I don't really see a point in getting something new at this point

Also, what songs/solos do ya know?

I actually have a band and we've been performing in talent competitions and fundraisers though so I wanna have a great sounding guitar. =/
I already have alot of expensive equipment from my dad's old band too (A line 6 pod, marshall halfstack amps, stuff like that lol)
I'm not that bad...It's just that the songs I would want to play take alot of skill...I'm into heavy metal, thrash and classic rock and right now were playing pop punk songs like blink 182 and greenday (I'm not to happy with it but the crowd likes it so w/e...lol)
My guitar is supposed to sound "godly" for a budget guitar but I wanted to know if there would be a huge difference if I got something more expensive...
Oh and I'm kind of attatched to it >_< (I love the shape, paint and designs on the whole thing) so if I just changed the pickups would it be able to sound like a more expensive guitar? lol

And right now I mostly only know bits and peices of different songs but I know all of Enter Sandman and Paranoid

I'm quite of the opposite idea of Pants.
A guitar that you really want may make you really step up.
I started playing a Squire Strato, and simply that guitar wasn't for my hands, didn't sound as I wanted, etc...
When I changed guitar and found myself really better, I built a lot of self confidence, that an instrument that was akward for me, was really choking.
You must tru to understand most of all which kind of neck and fretboard you do like and find confortable. That's the most important thing imho.
Then start searching your guitar.
Go at music shops and try try try guitars

HELLZ YEAH! MATTE BLACK GUITARS FTMFW!!!

I've just seen SO many people using Squiers and Fenders with their trademark glossy black body with a white pick guard... The only person I think is the most badass person whose image was built from a Fender, and how I grew up loving his music, is Eric Clapton.

EDIT : Oh, anyone familiar with the song Cliffs of Dover? ;D Uber fun song to play.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL
Is it a custom lutery model?
I understand the good ol' Steve Vai...but what does your friend do with that?
It's almost a double decker bus

But Steve Vai has a fretless neck...and I don't understand the need of the 7 strings and 6 strings neck.
I would have understood it if at least the 6 string neck would have had a floating bridge.
Anyway...I want it

He has no idea how much it's worth, because theres not really any reference because its such an oddity. Either way, it's not a super practical play, it's mostly for show.

But show it doooess

There are issues for importing musical instruments in Italy

So...here it is!
http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/9189/ibanezjs100.jpg

So, again Ibanez surprises me.
I heard a lot of trash talk about this guitar.
First of all that it was unplayable due to the fat neck.
Well, the neck is very playable, normal sized and FAST, the action is killer, though the strings are a lot spaced, so being an alternate picker, I found myself a bit uneasy, but legatos and sweeps comes out really REALLY clean, so this will be a guitar that will help me a lot to get better on my legato skills, and it makes me happy.

The guitar is really sexay, rounded everywhere and VEEEEEEEERY thin and light, not as a Gambale, but very confortable and the right arm is very relaxed on it especially when you go for 8 fingers tappings.
It has some particulare features that really stands up.
First of all the arm bar: it has a really pronounced angle and is a bit shorter than the ones that are equipped on regular Edge Bridges.
Then the headstock has not an angle and it's perectly parallel to the fretboard, so no step near the locking nuts, and that helps a lot the let hand to be relaxed in long legato stretches on the first 5-6 frets on the E and A strings.
So no truss rod cover, but a nice well round shiny hole.
Third is the humbucker single coil splitter, that is not activated with a spring but must be pulled...strange design Mr. Satriani

The sound is really warm and the resonance of the wood is worth of being mentioned.

Great instrument, and greatest deal is the fact that I got it second hand for only 250 €, it's perfect except that the guys who sold it to me lost the bottom screw that raises the neck humbacker, so I can't set it properly and the tone volume swell is a little loose and I must tighten it.

Why "unimpressive Fender strat"?
What's the difference between an impressive and an unimpressive one? I'm kung-fu/sed
I really find awkward to play Fender, so I'm always interested in hearing/reading the opinion of people that is used to them and enjoys them.
Sometimes I even think to buy an Yngwie Malmsteen Strato, just for collection and for the scalloped neck...but...welll I find it uncomfortable.

Anyway...found the courage to upload this

O_O
Lefty! Cool!
Well, everyone loves a brand, for some kind of reasons.
The thing that appeals me most in a guitar is the headstock, and I found the Ibanez one really sexay, it's aggressive but with some really nice curve, like a dangerous girl.
I may sound like a pervert if I start to talk about guitar shapes

Then I like the shark tooth inlays and the guitar tech research, and much much more.

Howdy guys! Fellow guitarist here, although a different breed I'm afraid...I play those tiny little nylon strung classical guitars that sound sweet and whatnot. This stuff:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIzKsNIRrV4
That's a piece I can play, albeit not as smoothly as the featured gentleman

Don't kill me just yet, though, as I grew up a massive metal head and didn't get into classical at all until I started playing guitar. It was Leo Kottke's arrangement of Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring that got me into the soft stuff, although when it comes time for me to LISTEN to something, it's usually Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Buckethead, Matt Rach, stuff like that. The less lyrics and more shredding, in my opinion, the better. The worst mistake ever made by a guitarist was letting the vocalist take center stage (kidding, of course)

So, the instrument you played isn't called guitar?
I must get back to some classic strumming, just to make the hands at ease with other things.
I'm buying an Ovation this week and put it to work.
Perhaps, do you know some site where I can find some classic guitar lessons and tablatures?
I think I played a classic guitar for 2 week max, except around camp fires and the such LOL
I never seriously applied to it, but I want to do it NAO.
I need to build even more strength, independence and flexibility, especially on the right hand, to later apply it to tapping techniques.
And I don't want to be only a shredder, I want to be quite good in every technique I can.

You're welcome. A word of advice, you might need to install a driver called Asio4all once you got your Line 6 POD Studio. Otherwise, you might get some latency when you aren't just using a standalone app but are instead using a Digital Audio Workstation. At least, such is the case with my PC. Asio4all also allows you to hear what you play from your computer speakers. It might just be my sound card, though.

I'm glad you're enjoying it. My cousin bought a JS100 about 4 years back and to this date, I still can't stand it. Maybe the JS1000 series is better, but this one feels to me like a low-end RG with a slim profile.

lol30frets!! I almost bought a 27 fret Xiphos, then was digusted at their Indonesian assembly line production. In general, I'm frustrated by lack of attention high end "shred" guitars are receiving these days. Want to buy a high-end 7 string? You're probably stuck with a boring black paintjob, regardless of the manufacturer. Want a cool body shape? Only available in the mass produced woodpile. Why is it I can't buy a Rhoades-shaped V from ESP that has neck-thru or set-neck design and a flamed or quilted paintjob? Do they really expect me to get a custom order for that and pay $8k for it?

Clearly the J-custom was the right choice...

Nice LTD! I have one too, only mine is a bit older, so it carries the MH-400 branding. FANTASTIC guitar, especially at the $930 price tag it was offered at. I understand the MH-401's are even cheaper now. Hope they didn't skimp on the quality. Omega might even hate me for saying this, but I find this guitar outplays my JEM in many respects.

Well, that's cool anyway
Just yesterday I was checking some Line6 stuff, and saw that "toy"
I was wondering about the quality, and it seems great.
Thanks!!!

I've seen a lot of good youtube stuff done with the Line 6's. Depending on what you want it for, it might be the right tool for the job. If you're looking for a recording interface for doing things a bit more professionally, I'd recommend something like a Presonus FireStudio or RME Fireface. I've owned a FireStudio Project for a few years now, and the bang for buck is phenomenal. Just finished my first recording contract with it earlier this year... the tracks sound great.

Might as well share one of my guitars.

I've got a Alvarez RF20SM Folk Guitar. It's got a great acoustic sound to it, very beautiful.

Crap, I wrote a wall of text and the PC crashed...

Again...
The JS is a 100, not a 1000...so well, there's a certain difference.
I only got the chance to try extensively a friend's JEM 55 and it's way different from my JEM 77.
The balance, the neck, the woods, the sounds on the same settings.
So yeah, this one is on the same tier of a prestige, but...it's way less handy.
That's a guitar for hard rock and not shredding, alternate is particularly sloppy despite the very few space between strings, yet it really forces me to parctice legatos, where I lack more, so I'm happy to push my boundaries.
Said so, I will buy a 1000 and sell this one when I will found a good deal.

Xiphos is obviously a scenic guitar and you have the right thing for that price.
Despite being Indonesian I found a good care in the craft, not the Japanese one, obviously but the guitar shines in its way.
And it has those Di Marzio D-Activators that are a blast.
I'm definitely going to buy a VBT too, because I want to equip it with some .012-something to play it detuned.

You're right about the 7 strings...I think I'm going to buy an Apex sooner or later, the other stuff is just a bit weak.
I like the idea of the U-Tremolo Bar LOL
Gide you can always wait the soon to be released Jackson Chris Broderick Soloist (http://www.jacksonguitars.com/products/products.php?page=1&product=2803057803)

And I made up my mind to make my RIG and trash my current amp.
My best friend sent me some pics of his stuff and left me drooling.
He's an Electronic Engineer and a Sound Engineer, so all his stuff is modded.
http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/8633/dsc00751vt.jpg
http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/4004/dsc00524sj.jpg

The point is I don't understand a s! about these things.
I've always been the kind of guy that thoughts that a guitarist is his hands' skills and his guitar...I bought my multi-fx (a GT-5 I still use with a Metal Zone in loop after lots of years of playing).
The plug and shred guy. LOL
And maybe because, living in a flat I could have never used the potential of stuff that costs a lot...so I always felt like money that I wouldn't have never put to value.
Today I'm going to write Dom and ask him, but feel free to enlighten me

I didn't either when I first thought about going rackmount. And over the years, you do learn that there's more to being a guitarist than having skill with your hands... well at least until you can afford to pay a sound tech to do it for you!

Don't get me wrong, you can get pretty far on stomp boxes (hell, Steve Vai still lives by his Keeley-modded DS-1), but if you're at all like me, you want to be able to be versatile. I was never good at doing the pedal dance, so for me, the goal was to simplify my setup and eliminate memorizing knob settings. Plus racks are great in that they are fast to set up... no more connecting 100 wires.

So, the simplest rackmount amp is as follows:

- power unit (aka power conditioner)
- preamp
- power amp

The power conditioner is important for protecting your gear and for getting everything on the same AC frequency to eliminate as much electrical noise as possible. For the rest, we're now dealing with a signal chain.

The preamp and poweramp are the equivalent of buying an amp head. You plug into the preamp, which creates your main tone. This signal then passes through the power amp to generate volume. Their separation in a rack unit lets you mix and match amp parts to really refine your tone and gives you flexibility for signal routing.

In an amp head, the effects loop is akin to the space between the preamp and poweramp, however anything done in an effects loop is usually blended to some extent with the dry amp signal. This problem is eliminated in a rack setup, because you have 100% control of your preamp signal before it passes through the power amp.

So, what about all that other gear in a rack?

In addition to the pre/poweramps, you usually will have one or more effects units at work. Signal-wise, they are normally placed in between the preamp and poweramp. These could be multifx units (such as a g-major) or compressors or EQ units. Compared to a stomp box, rack effects usually have way more options for fine tweaking their settings. You can also have rack units that serve other purposes, such as signal routing (in the event you want to be able to switch amps on the fly, or that interface with stomp boxes hidden away on a rack tray, or that are designed to backup your electronic settings)

Looking at Dom's $$$ setup, here's what I see (top to bottom):

Furman Power Conditioner
Carvin Quad X-Amp Preamp
Soldano Series II Preamp
Brunetti Mille Preamp
Brunetti Silver Bullet Poweramp
Line 6 Pod Pro Preamp/Multifx/Amp Modeler
Digitech 2120 Preamp/Multifx/Amp Modeler
Brunetti Silver Bullet Poweramp

If he's a sound engineer, this makes sense. He needs a few different options for recording artists in order to achieve the plethora of tones that might be required for different jobs. The Line6 and Digitech units use software to simulate various amp sounds (i.e. Mesa Recto or Mark II, Marshall JCM, Fender Twin Reverb, etc.) plus have built in fx units. The other preamps are straight up preamps that generate their sounds by hardware (tube/solidstate).

By the looks of it, your buddy is probably using the Pod/2120 effects when combined with the Carvin, Soldano, and Brunetti pre's, but probably also using them as standalone units to dial in other types of tones.

My rack, from page 1:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3008/2725309807_4441549078.jpg
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2299/1835904484_e1449350eb.jpg

For me, I have the Furman Power conditioner (top), TC electronics G-major multifx unit, Mesa Triaxis preamp, and Mesa 2:Ninety power amp (bottom). My Triaxis stores amp "knob" settings digitally, and I can save different setups as patches, which can be recalled by my pedalboard via MIDI. The G-major is also controllable by MIDI - I save different effects presets, which consist of one or more types of effects (i.e. delay, reverb). Everything is programmed so that when I stomp on ONE pedal, I call up a particular amp setting and a matching effects preset.

You see how this is much simpler than the stomp box dance. I can change to a clean channel with some chorus with one step, another step and I have a fat overdriven solo sound with double delay, compression and pedal-controlled wah. Another step and I have a brutal dry crunch for heavy riffing.

If you want to discuss further, I might be able to recommend some sort of setup as well, depending on what it is you're really looking for.

Well, no stomp dance for me as I have a
http://mr5150.vhvault.com/GT-5.jpg
That is quite good but it somehow feels too digital and I would like to go a bit more organic, even if at the moment I'm really playing just for my personal pleasure.
http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetails.php?ProductId=461
I use it with a Metal Zone in Loop, so it's always switched on, and the effect is active only when you command it from the GT-5
I find it particularly good since I can have up to 30 banks, each one with 5 different preset sound.
So for each guitar I can have a different and distinct bank, each one with a
1.Rhythm/Crunch/Extreme Distortion
2.Clean
3.Overdrive/Hardrock Distortion
4.Lead Chanel
5.Stupid channel with abused effect: Harmonizer or Wah or Pink Floyd style delay...

So my main concern is...
Could I be able to keep this kind of solution with a rack?

And yesterday I just browsed a bit...a 10U rack weights 16,5 Kg alone...how much does your rack weights?

Yes. That's exactly how my setup works, only I rely on my amp's tube distortion rather than a stomp box and my GT-5 equivalent comes in rack format. Of the two variable expression pedals on my pedalboard, one is always controlling volume output, while the other is tied to whatever effect I want (pitch shift, wah, delay mix).

And yesterday I just browsed a bit...a 10U rack weights 16,5 Kg alone...how much does your rack weights?

My rack is 6U and I still have one space free. The case itself is far lighter (even relatively) - nothing says you need a steelbound ATA flight case. I have both Gator and SKB cases that are lightweight and weigh not much more than a few pounds. However, my amp is sinfully heavy thanks to the two:ninety power amp, bringing the entire rack to around 70lbs (31.5kg). A 10U case probably warrants caster wheels if its loaded up.

How is he modding this stuff exactly?

I just had my power amp into the shop over the winter because I kept blowing fuses on it. Turns out a previous owner had done some mods that rewired one channel through two fuses, while leaving the other channel completely unprotected. My Mesa tech never did figure out what the mod was trying to accomplish, and reset everything back to factory since it was a fire hazard.

My only "mod" these days is running high-end JJ 6L6s instead of the crappy ones Mesa brands.

Ah those the The Alfee guitars? Some pretty sick designs, albeit completely impractical to play.

The Angel Sword guitar was up on ebay a few years ago. It's the same guitar that makes an appearance in Metalocalypse Season 1 where Skwisgaar is going his Masterclass.

Marty Friedman opened a bid for the Jackson Kelly used to record "Rust In Peace" and "Countdown To Extinction"
The money will go in aid of Jason Becker's foundation.

Nice respectable act, though the guitar is really worn out with a bad crack on the neck.
So buying it is just to help a noble cause.

LOL, got a beer with Alexi when he toured for Hatebreeder, nice guy, but I don't like how he changed his style.
Though I don't know if I'll go.
I hate gigs, every time I go to one I end up punching someone because he's drunk and doesn't allow me to watch the show in peace

Update:
2 nice vids I just discovered just out of luck.
I really like Gentaro Satomura, never heard of him before, but I like his taste more than the latest Alexi

Here on a VS with Takayoshi Ohmura...there's a cool series of VS between Japanese shredders...gonna have a deep look into it

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9W4Mc2mAqVE&feature=related

(Watched some other vids...I guess I really like Gentaro because we play almost in the same way for use of scales, modes, fingerings, pickings though I'm a bit more wild, with a different approach, I for example always palm mute every scale on the D, A, E strings, sometimes even b and g.)

I always play the other guitar section, COOL! I must really move to Canada.
I like how you keep the hand position during the verse, I always do stuff like that with heavy staccato lifting my fingers while doing it, because the second section of guitar B is the same as first part of guitar A.
And I never get that bar dive in the solo that good.

Really chirurgic way of handling the stuff, while I'm a bit more rough.

Yeah... I probably look like I'm having apoplexy during those triplets, haha. My rhythm chops are a little rusty after being away from a guitar for nearly three months this year. So I'm gritting my teeth and giving it as hard as I can. I've spent a lot of years working on cleaning up my playing and trying to economize everything, since brute force only gets me so far.

Anyways, you've got solid chops, so whatever you're doing... it's working. You know... if ever you do decide to move... we'd be a dangerous team and probably make the other acts here in town sweat for their money. My bassist just got an offer to fill in for a local band and open for Obscura in July. He's mad excited....

This was from almost 3 months ago.
And that's a lot...it was 9 months after I picked the guitar back after 7 years.
I'm working hard to get back, even if I can't practice with the consistency I need.
It's 2 weeks that I'm practicing only on the acoustic with steel strings and it's helping a lot in cleaning the picking and make it precise.
I decided to not play the electric until the end of June and see if my hands have taken back some strength.
I've never been a legato monster, but a 7 years hiatus made my hands slower and weaker.
While I regained the speed, I haven't got my strength back.

But the hardest thing to get back is self esteem...when you see that you can't pull out anymore the stuff you could do blindly...that sucks...worse than when you so want to learn something and can't reach it.
I always considered self esteem to be the primary ingredient for a musician.

If chops is what you need, grab your metronome and start working your way through Rusty Cooley's Shred Guitar Manifesto and The Art of Picking. With a hiatus that long, you need to reprogram your muscle memory. I feel lucky that I was able to put the guitar down for a few months (longest stretch in nearly 20 years) and picked it up with only a week to get back to speed.

All you really need is determination and a training plan. I inevitably pick something ridiculously hard and start grinding away at it. When I can finally pull it off cleanly, it's all the self-esteem I need to keep on going. Having a friend at least to play with is also another big incentive. I'm only motivated now because I'm trying to put a band together once more.

Hey guys. I've been playing for around 2 years now. I'm starting to practice sweeping, but I can't seem to sweep back up at all xD. Sweeping down is easy, just coming back up feels so awkward and annoying. . . It puts me off . What exercises did you guys do when you first started to sweep?2011-06-12 02:45:00

Author:

Hm...my suggestion is to throw off the pick for a while
Yeah not joking. Take a minor and a major position on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd strings like
15-12---------12-15
------13----13-------
----------12----------

and

12-8------------8-12
------10----10-------
-----------9----------

and start practicing them only with hammer-ons and a pull off on the 1st string.
Then when you find enough comfortable with that start to use the pick again.
Then move on and add a note on a 4th string and so on.
This exercise will help you a lot at keeping every note clear and will help your brain to not rely on a common downstroke/upstroke when you'll have to execute more complex and unusual sweeps where you have like 2 notes on a string like
---------------------10-11-15-11-10-----------------------
------------------11-------------------11--------------------
---------------12-------------------------12-----------------
------9-12-13-------------------------------13-12-9-------
---10--------------------------------------------------10----
11----------------------------------------------------------11

I started with 3-string arpeggios and practiced my sweeps slowly and to a metronome. The key is to try to separate the notes rather than having them blend together. Make sure you lift your fretting fingers as you sweep through the pattern, resisting the temptation to hold them down as if you were strumming a chord. Then, work your way up to 4, then 5, and 6 string shapes. Slow and clean is preferable to fast and sloppy.

On the downward sweep, you will use your fretting hand to mute the top strings. When you're coming back up, use your picking hand to mute the lower strings.

Use your neck pickup

Cool never saw this thread before.

OmegaSlayer and Thegide you guys have some serious talent.

I haven't played guitar for over a year now and i'm starting to feel the withdrawal effects.

My guitars are a Jackson RX10D and a Jackson Kelly KE2 with custom paint job and bodywork which i got for $450 Australian six years ago, it was so cheap because it was broken stock and didn't work that well and was originally worth $1800. When i bought it i was still at school so took it to metal works class and rebuilt it from the inside out and it was the best guitar i had played with a sound like no other Kelly i had tested.

One draw back is how heavy it it compared to a standard kelly because of the wood used and all the interior patchwork. I used it to perform my own instrumental song i wrote in music class for my HSC called Battle Roans.
Because of the work i did on it to repair it the sound was more distorted and heavier so it was always hard to tune but sounded like a beast when i played it even my best mate who has four guitars envied it.

Unfortunately it was dropped down a flight of stairs when i was moving and broke in many places. Now the sound is a little off and takes ages to tune. One day i will repair it again though also my $1000 distortion pedal gave in on me a few months back.
For now i use the Jackson RX10D.

Heres a vid i found for one of my favourite Scorpion Songs that shows you how to play the intro to Rock you Like a Hurricane. I have been using this to get back into the guitar along with my old riffs i made back at school.

One of my main pieces for practicing back then was Concerto by Cacophony. Its ****ed hard but good practice for your timing and speed.

Cool, Concerto has a couple of tricky passages, but it's only up to insane practice and practice and practice.
Though it's one of the best guitar instrumental ever made.
Kudos if you play that

I can't play the whole song well not yet anyway just the first few minutes and other parts here and there.
Its still good practice though same as one By Metalica.

I'll try and get a pic of my guitar at some point but right now its packed away. And i want to get some new parts for it. Also the neck broke in half. It was cracked so it was only a matter of time till it happened. I hope i can fix it cause its hard to say bye to an old friend

I can't send to memory the end of the arpeggio starting at 3:16 LOL
But it's because my head fails.
It's called senility

Yeah, I feel you.
The guitar my Grandpa bought to me is a bit worned out, I wanted to repaint it, but...it's a memento of my grandpa, of lots of gigs and lots of adventures

Yeah my Great grandmother bought me a Bass guitar 2 years before she died. I wanted to sell it because i don't really use it or play bass much anymore so it just collects dust and gets in the way. But because she bought it for my birthday even though she had hardly any cash i don't really think i could get rid of it.

Even though i haven't really played guitar much in the last couple years i have still been creating riffs and small songs with a PC program called Guitar Pro 5 which is quite cool.
Its kept me busy and kept my musical creativity alive but not the same as randomly picking up the guitar and creating a new riff on the spot with my mate.
I'll try and upload some of the things i have created with it with the new Kaiser baas: Series 8 Game Recorder i just bought. All i have to do is connect it from one PC to the other or just make WAV's of the songs and play through the PS3 or something.
Its not quite guitar playing but the riffs and tunes in them even the string and piano sections were mostly created playing guitar when i was at school.
I never could read sheet music but tabs i know like the back of my hand.

And by the way, I must get some new picks.
After a decade or more I abandoned the Jim Dunlop Big Stubby 3.0 mm
http://www.actionmusic.com/images/products/misc/DunlopBigStubby2and3.jpg
and I moved the the 2.0 mm, and felt a lot better and quick and relaxed with a lighter pick...now I ordered some Jim Punlop Tortex sharp 1.5 mm

let's see if I'll found it even more comfortable

Cool

I usually use 1.5mm as well but mostly i like the 60mm Jim Dunlop picks which i use for fast picking.

Just testing new strings (Ernie Ball 7 string .10-.59) and new pick (JimDunlop JazzIII).
Pretty much fail, the strings that are not wounded are too smooth and are subjected to more tension than D'Addario sets of the same gauge.
The pick bends and that's not good at all for fast picking, also it's too small and hard to control to give flavour to the picking (I like to change the angle of picking to give accents or chunkier vibes).
I bought a full 12 pick pack of Tortex Sharp that I will take today at the shop.
Hopefully those will be better

Just for the LULZ

Thats some nice picking there Omega you definately have some talent there.

Yeah i find D'Addario to be the best strings most of the time.

Thanks Lord
I must say that I blanked the screen to not show the insane faces I pull.

The perfect combination should be Ernie for 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th and D'Addario on the first 3, and guess what, I already annoyed the guitar shop for this.
Also, I took the picks, they're definitely the deal, even if 1.35 MAY be better, I need to get used to them though, I will still try combinations, since it's incredible how strings and pick can affect the style both in a positive or negative way.
