Sony rolls out Welcome Back Program (was: PlayStation Store Returns)

Archive: 1455 posts

OK... So Australia has the update, and I have installed it, the AU playstation site has some new links to 'welcome back' (but the page does not exist yet).

No word when we go live; all the announcements are for Europe and US.

They have to manually edit the map once power is restored to a state.
It states that in the paragraph above it.

{EDIT}

Apparently, according to a member here,
PSN is now up in Florida.
(Not sure if entire Florida or select regions.)
Must be in select regions, 'cause I'm in Florida and still no PSN for me!

Statement says PSN will be up across the country (U.S) in 7 hours.

I believe they would choose state activation sequence by number of PSN users.
It's region by region for a state, instead of sate then state.

So, if your in a heavy populated area, good for you.

So.... ahh... for no reason... what is the precise GPS co-ordinates of said ranch?

I wonder when AUS will be live. Looks like not this week.

PSN has been restored in the most northern parts of the US. Check the map. (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/05/14/play-on-%E2%80%93-psn-restoration-begins-now/)

Freakin missed PA by that much.

EDIT: All the "recently published" levels on LBP.me have changed for the first time in 3 and a half weeks!

PSN probably isn't restored in your region yet.

For the entire U.S to get back online, it'll take approximately several hours.

The PS store isnt up yet, nor is most of the planet. Im sure in a few days everything will be completely back to normal, and we'll all receive our less-then-satisfactory welcome back packages. In the meantime, be glad you can at least play online.

Hah, seriously that would suck! But that kind of behavior is to be expected in a large corporation. Just think... they need to earn money now more than ever to recouperate from this outage. Anyway I don't care, it is enough to me that the PSN is finally coming back up!!!

Actually; 'Munchy Bunny Bounce: A Little Big Easter Egg Hunt' by Pookachoo looks like it'd be interesting.

Darn, I thought you could change password before it is restored in your state.

I thought that update I downloaded was for that and that they recommend you change password before service is restored?

I didn't get an email because they said you only get email if you never downloaded anything from PSN. And it wont let me change on system because it says undergoing maintanence. If you can't change password before it is restored then why did they recommend you do so?

lol... I love how Canada is always lumped in with NA... yet they still don't know how to label our provinces on a map. Pathetic really.

Oh well, at least we're up and running 24 days later. It's been a nice break actually. Good luck Europe, Australia, etc. See you soon!

4:00am is a little late to catch up with friends now, so I'ma hit the sack and call it a night.

Waitwaitwait. Did he say you could only change your password on the same PS3 as you created the account on?!

What about people whose PS3 have broken from YLOD etc.?
Will we still be at risk?

He said you can also change the password on a different PS3, but you will be prompted for email verification.

If using a PS3, your password can only be changed on your own PS3 (or a PS3 on which your PSN account was activated),

Something weird just happened...
After logging in this morning it decided to download an update. After logging in after that update it says that ''Error has occured...'' Now I logged in and it said nothing. I was like: ''Is it possibly working now? My lucky day!'' But after half an hour of waiting to log into PSN, it says that error has occured. What's going on? Is it possibly coming to Europe soon aswell?

Just so people kno and don>t get confused I want to say lastnight around 9 pm i was aloud to update. It took about an hour for me to actually sign in, even after that hour when I was finally aloud to sign in it took about another 1/2 hour for me to actually play games. New England was the first to be up and that's where I live. Also I've talked with all my friends this morning and 2 of them are still having trouble logging into PSN. They live in middle America.

I will tell you that I noticed my ps3 had a lot less load times when I was at the xmb bar. It use to take a while to load my friends list but now it pops right up. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the new servers.

Also the LBP store was working, I just could'nt click on anything to buy but I was able to browse my DLC.

All i can say is I don't think you will get any replys from Sony right now.

Also what happens is you sign in and then just change your password. It wont matter about the email. I you know your password thats all that matters.

Just a quick recap of my own recovery experience...

I am in Minnesota, the last region of the US to be updated. Yesterday I was able to load and install the firmware upgrade, but was still unable to log in. At first I thought it might be because I was using a new PS3 (my original suffered the YLOD a few weeks back), but at 2AM this morning I was able to log in and was immediately prompted to change my password. Then I had to sign back in again, with the the new PW. Following that, I was then able to publish my new LBP2 level (probably a bad idea, with the surge of publications that is bound to come over the next 48-72 hours, but... meh).

TL;DR:

New PS3 following a YLOD
Able to download firmware first, then log in to PSN later
Immediately prompted for new password
Able to publish to the LBP servers

If using a PS3, your password can only be changed on your own PS3 (or a PS3 on which your PSN account was activated), as an added layer of security. If you have never downloaded any content using your account on the system, an email will be sent to the registered sign-in ID (email address) associated with your account when you first attempt to sign-in to PSN. This e-mail will contain a link that will enable you to change your password. In this email, click on the link and follow the instructions to change your password. Once you have changed your password you can sign-in to your account using your new password.

They don't make it very clear. They say "if I've never downloaded any content on my system" I should change it with my email address.

I think I get what they are saying, and I am safe and not going to lock myself out of anything once I change it with PS3. Is it?

I'd like to say a couple things.

First off I'm on LBP now. Be ready for some crappy welcome back levels. They are horrible. I have no clue how they got MM picked. They are not just a little bad they are really bad.

There are no Welcome back programs as of now and no store.

Everything in account settings requires a password to access anything now.

Cloud is perfectly fine. All my saves are still there.

Trophies are intact, syncing seems a little faster then before.

There are a few new settings under SECURITY SETTINGS.

I don't remember if Facebook was on the ps3 before but now it has an icon.

At first when I was prompted to change my password I would click on OK and it would send me to a MAINTENANCE screen. That happened for about 45 minutes until It finally brought me to the password change screen. So it may take a bit before it will allow you to actually change your password.

I noticed that adding friends is not working properly. I got a couple in but I was having a problem. I think it may have to do with the fact not everyone is online.

And as for the Network itself I noticed it's a little smoother when going to your XMB through a game.

After I changed my password I got a few emails so make sure you check. Nothing huge it's just talking about passwords.

So basically every thing is working except the store.

For people with Portal 2 who are wondering if Steam is functioning, Yes it is, works great.

This is gonna take time. Its been over 16 hours since they started restoring the US and still not everyone can sign in. I was able to sign in at around 10 or 10:30 lastnight and its 2:15 now. So they are still working on the Map. That map takes a while to update. It took about a half hour after me signing in for my state to light up.

That's odd because when you actually are online there are new levels there. I know I turned on my ps3 and it said 8 new mm picked levels picked since last time you logged in. The last time I logged in was lastnight.

Let me double check. I may be confused with the cool pages but I don't think so.

It also said 285 levels published since last log in.

I'll check I will reply soon.

Edit:

I just checked they are in the cool pages not MM picked, you are 100% right. I got confused because it says 8 new MM picked levels, I think it may be all the way back from April 19th. Not sure why it is doing that.

i did notice i rated one of them with a 'yaay', that needs to be changed NOW!

So ya know new levels in MM picks, cophermc is right. New levels are in the cool pages though. there is nothing cool about the psn levels. Still shocked they are up there. It makes sense that they are in fact no in the MM picks. I'm sure they would never pick a level that poorly made.

When I first woke up, I check the Psn if its on yet (Like all the other 24 days XD) and its said to update it!, I did, and after it finished I logged in and singing while putting the game disc and waiting for it to finish loading. (Lol =3) When It finished loading, almost all my friends were online. Most of the were playing LittleBigPlanet2, so I started looking for online levels, and I was surprised! There was only about a dozen new levels! I honestly thought that with all the time people had offline, that there would be an overwhelming amount of levels published! But I guess the reason for that is that probably not that much people know about it yet, and only some countries are online. So I stared to spread the word! So what do you guys think?2011-05-15 22:39:00

I'm pretty sure if they're anywhere online they can hear about this, they probably already know PSN is online.
Maybe it can be with the fact that:
1 - Levels tend sometimes tend to take 4 - ? weeks to make and we've only been out 3.
2 - Everyone that played LBP didn't stau 24/7 playing LBP, creating levels.
3 - Many didn't even play at all.
4 - Not everyone that played LBP is a creator.
5 - Many didn't play for the lack of people to play with. (Preffer to create with others.)

So its most likely normal that levels didn't boom, dude, it was all specuilation that it;d happen.

Yeah, not sure what happened there. Twitter said they were doing the rest of Europe, so my girlfriend tried signing in and it worked. But when I tried later, it was the same old maintenance message again. Oh well, seems to be solved now.

Edit: Nope, maintenance message is back again. It's a bit unstable apparently, so best not sign out if you want to play again in half an hour.

Also not everyone is online. I still have friend here in the US that are having trouble signing into the PSN.

What's with the poll?

1:28 am of May the 16th, aka today, meaning they meant tomorrow.
(Or did you mean that because they said it at 1am that they probably meant later today?
Either way, I doubt it.)

Also, they already said they're looking onto the poll thing in here a few posts back.

Yeah, but usually when people say tomorrow at that kind of time, they forget it's already tomorrow and actually mean today. Could be wrong, but I think he meant today.

I somehow missed the page where the poll thing was mentioned.

Out of those who have gotten back on NA PSN successfully, is anyone here having trouble getting online?
My LBP:GOTY was working just fine when the service came back online, but after about a day I started getting an "A problem occurred when attempting to connect to the PlayStation(R)Network" error any time I try to load a community level. That said, I can search, heart, queue, comment, and even copy levels to my moon.

On another note, does anyone know when the NA PSN store will be out of maintenance mode?

Two things.
1. How can a summer vacation be ruined by not staying inside all summer on a PS3?
2. I don't think Sony can take all the blame. They were hacked and all.

I really hope "everything" includes the identity theft protection service and the compensation package they've been promising.

They should offer us all any two or three free titles from the store... I feel like they're using this "welcome back" package as a way to get people dependent on PSPlus so we'll subscribe. No thanks, Sony, I'll keep my game saves on my hard drive, and don't think I'll be fooled by cookies and warm milk, either.

Wait and see what the final package is first.

Each territory will be offering selected PlayStation entertainment content for free download. Specific details of this content will be announced in each region soon.
? All existing PlayStation Network customers will be provided with 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium service. Current members of PlayStation Plus will receive 30 days free service.

They've already announced a vague description of the non ps+ freebies for the EU and it's likely you'll get someting aong the same lines.

Also, look out for more information on the rest of our Welcome Back programme, including which free content you will be eligible for. We will be offering PSN users the opportunity to select two PS3 games from a list of five, as well as offering PSP users the opportunity to choose two games from a list of four. We will let you know exactly what games are available very soon.

The only thing Im getting problems with is trophies that you can only aquire by playing online. I have published two levels to lbp2 but not got the trophies for them. I'm just assuming it has something to do with loadso f people using the service and I'll eventually get them.

What happened to the news sources saying that PSN will be on by the end of the month?

Still no email from Sony, 24 hours after requesting it. Cant get through to the helplne as it keeps giving me a dead tone.

Epic.

Am I alone i this? I've heard rumours about an issue with hotmail/live accounts . . . I really hope that isnt the case. I don't want to lose all the content I've bought! (Amounts to an awful lot!)

I actually expected it, the game is nothing more then huge DLC for LBP2 right now (or else you dont have LBP2), so it's great offer for those who got LBP2 but not LBP1

I already have LBP original, but I'll take the PSP one !
I have ModNation on PS3 and the PSP one is lame, so I guess I'll take Killzone, even if I don't even know what it's like.
For PS3, I'll get inFamous, already played half the game once, but it is still the collest one from the list. Now the puzzle is between the other ones...
I played Ratchet QFB and I tell you, you learn almost nothing about the storyline, and it is just a bad add to the ToD game. Not worth it. I think I'll take Wipeout, I tried to of them on PSP and it's nice.

Then, what will I buy with the PSN card I got for my birthday ? Costumes ! Yay !

The free games are worthless to me. I have them all. It's no big deal though there are plenty of people who haven't played any of them. I'm cool with the free movie rentals and the home items, I'm not worried about the two free games. Im happy with the other stuff.

The best thing is 60 days of ps plus. My subsription expires June 7th so it works out well.

One things many people have wrong about ps plus. There are same games you buy that will expire when ps plus expires but not eveything. Anything you pay for at a discount and all DLC is yours forever. I know this because mine has expired twice and I got to keep a lot of stuff. Also be sure to really take advantage of what ps plus can do.

Automatic demo and beta downloads.

1 hour free trials of games

Automatic game updates and patch downloads

Cloud(save games to a server outside of ps3

Free movies from time to time

If you have any question about plus just find the user agreement online and it's all pretty much stated in that.

I for one love my ps plus. It's a great service If your a hardcore gamer. I think if Sony does it right and offers some exclusive betas, games, DLC and demos they will have a bunch of people who will resign when the time expires.

I realize depending on where you live is where all the good stuff is. But in the US it's a pretty nice feature. In total I've probably gotten around twenty free games in the last year. Some good and some bad but overall it's worth tr money to me.

I hope this helps people get excited about this great service Sony offers.

I just purchased LBP1 during this outage, lol. Would be a real treat if they'd let me snag the Creator Pack or some other LBP1 DLC instead!

Quite glad they've upped the ante with this latest blog post though, and so relieved to see the free games also apply to NA. And while there's really no point in using the cloud saves if they're simply not accessible after the 30-day grace period is up, it's good to know that any content we obtain during the 30 days is ours to keep.

(But poor German market... they look a little excluded.)

On an unrelated note, For the love of CHEEZ-ITS please let the ngp pull data faster than the psp's. I don't expect lightning fast, but really....the psp's make me wanna cry with their data pulls.....

Actually, even if you have LBP on bluray already, having LBP installed on harddisk is also pretty neat, saves a lot of disk swapping. Although now that LBP2 is out, it's not quite as useful. 2011-05-17 22:06:00

It's a top down shooter where you are a survived of an outbreak. Sorta like a zombie type game. Maybe something like that game dead ops on the call of duty game black ops. It's fun the graphics are actually really good for a top down shooter. It's a survival type of game. There are a ton of videos on YouTube about it.

Yay.. 5 games I either have.. or dont want..
way to go sony.. :/

Yay, 5 games, 4 I don't have and do want!
Way to go, Sony!

See, its all in perspective, obviously some people are gonna have some or all the games, but they don't really have a huge library of online titles atm, and they can't really check person-by-person what games each person has, so no matter what titles they offered, there's probably gonna be a few people that are gonna have most all games they would've given away.

Anywho, what did I say, 5 Full games, called it!
Now I'm glad I bought Prototype over InFamous, take THAT peer pressure! xD

I own all 5 games but there is still enough stuff that they gave besides the games that is plenty for me. I'm happy with the other stuff like two free months of ps plus etc. There are going to be a ton of people that don't have any of those games, way more then people that do. I'm happy those people get to play those games. I think LBP is the best game they offered. WHY? Because there are people have never played it and after they play that they may go buy LBP2. Which means more of our levels will get plays and the community will grow.

This.

Lots of new players is a good thing... for the most part.

So, four full days after I updated my password, I received an official email from Sony confirming as much. I'm a bit anxious about the delay, but I know lots of people are experiencing the same thing. It's just that I got it during the internet PSN login problems that are currently going on.

I probably have nothing to worry about, but still...

5 full games? I read some reviews and they said Ratchet & Clank was only 4 hours long. That's not really a full game, is it?

Ah well, I'll get it anyway. Dead Nation as a twin stick zombie shooter doesn't appeal to me, and two others I got from PSN+.

Is it only in my country, or is the entire PSN currently down again? Gives me an error that disconnects me from PSN. Just prior to this happening, I got a lot of lag while playing.2011-05-19 21:48:00

By the way, if I'm right :
What you buy cheaper than usual with PSN Plus is yours to keep.
What you buy for free on PSN Plus is lost when your account is over.

And R&C isn't that cool, way to short. Really, I'm a fan of the series and I don't want it. There's not even a challenge mode!
Take inFamous and WipEout, really good games !

is this about the customer appreciation program? Because I could have sworn it said you could select two games and be kept forever

If this is about something else, I apologize for jumping in.

That's a different thing, PS+ AND 2 games you keep forever from a list of 5.

He was stating he had the power to do so, I would call that a rumor, since there's no sign of it being possible.

Or not, it could be both your or my view, I see it as if he was stating, you see it as if he was speculating, so would you mind clearing it up, Brent?

Yes whatever is discounted and all DLC is yours forever.

If you download a free game, then you let ps plus expire the game will go with it. But it's not gone forever. Whenever you decide to sign up again for ps plus it will reactivate the free games. In fact when ps plus expires the game remains on your hard drive, when you select it a message will pop up prompting you to either buy it or re sign for psplus. Once you do that you have the game ready to go, no downloading or waiting.

I've gotten a ton a great discounts through ps plus. More mini games then I can name. Quite a few free games, not the greatest free but some very decent ones.

Everyone talks about the games on ps plus but nobody mentions feature. Personally the features are my favorite. Here's a small list of what I remember.

Automatic game updates and patches:
Basically you set a time for your ps3 to turn on and check for game updates and patches, once it's done automatically downloading them your ps3 shuts off. Next time you turn it on a message comes up with list of what patches etc. your ps3 downloaded.

Automatic demos and games:
I love this feature. Sometimes on those betas or demos everyone is dying to get you will get them already installed on your hard disk. Just turn on your ps3 and there it is.

Avatars and themes:
This isn't really a feature but it's worth bringing up. Being a plus member give you access to a ton of themes and avatars. Some free some not.

Invitations:
I've been invited to some betas just for being a plus member

Cloud:
This is a great cloud based service. It's simple save your games to a cloud. Basically if you play games like LBP and depend on back files, instead of saving to hard drive you save to servers and if anything ever happens to your ps3 you will still have your saves backed up. You can even save stuff in cloud and access it on a friends ps3. It's great if you want to show your friend a level or anything else you've been working. Hat upload it from cloud and there it is.

I know some of these features are obtainable everywhere and I'm sure other countrys have ones the US does not have. But all in all these are some very good features. I can't imagine gaming without them.

I just want to say ps plus has grown a lot since the start and it still continues to grow. One thing they talked about at E3 when they announced ps plus was movies. I have yet to see anything with movies. If I remember correctly maybe here and there but nothing like I heard at E3. I have a feeling at this years E3 they are going to announce some new feartures for plus. The good thing is everyone will subscribed so maybe it'll make them stay.

Ah... The 'what makes it a game?' question. Dangerous territory there. Portal. Heavy Rain. On the other side there's 'dlc' that gives days of entertainment. Red Dead Zombies. Personally if you play it, it's a game. If you enjoy the time you spend with it; it's a good game.

Also I see others are still having issues also with patchy PSN I can log in fine but can't on my computer when I want to queue stuff on lbp.me

Ah... The 'what makes it a game?' question.

More the "what makes it a full game?" question, because even the lamest mini is still a game. My immediate answer would be a game that costs 60 euros at release, but thinking about it, that's obviously flawed. I haven't played your examples, but Ico and MGS are also short, but they at least exceed 10 hours.

Anyway, I'm not complaining, it's free.

Free tramapoline! tram pa app oh lean!

Some people are complaining. Which is funny... because if you have ALL those games plus others how come you couldn't keep yourself occupied during the outage? I actually played Kill Zone Liberation for the first time during the outage (I bought it at launch), sort of forgot I even had a PSP, I also had GoW and FFVII:CC to play. I haven't played Quest for Booty so I'll grab that (although I never even got half way done in Rachet and Clank) and WipeOut.

But for PSP... hmmm... I'm pretty well addicted to LBP2 so I guess I could get the PSP version, but that could be considered a little nutty.

Hopefully you can DL two games on every account on your ps3, that was I can get all 4 games other than LBP1 since I already have that.2011-05-20 14:49:00

If you're a proper LBP fan, you'll get LBP for PSP of course! But seriously, it's a good game. Story mode was really enjoyable (better than PS3 LBP1 IMHO), and though create mode does have some bugs, I thought it was workable enough.

All this talk about full games and how that sucks. In my experience there are times where I paid 60usd for a full game and it sucked, then I'd go buy a game for 14.99usd like Joe Danger and am totally blown away. My point is I wish they would have offered us games from a lower price range. I think people would have got more out of it that way. Just think Castle Crashers, Tumble, Joe danger, back to the future,Sam and max, Scott pilgrim, digger, fat princess you get the point. Some of my favorite games were bought for around 10 bucks. Good thing is some of the games I've mentioned should still be discounted or free on ps plus. Also many people are forgetting or just don't know that you will have access to even more free games as a plus member. Also another great thing is some of the games on the list of 5 have one hour trials on plus. So you get to try it out collect your trophies and if you like it just download for free and continue where you left off.

On a different note I was sorta hoping for Mass Effect 2 to be on the list. Oh well. .

yeah right! keep dreamin'. I agree with you about the other stuff tho. I refuse to buy games anymore without first playing a demo or renting them or just waiting till they hit the discount rack. I despise buying a game for $60 us and beating it in 2 to 3 hours. The only games that I will get are games I know are monsters, like LBP, Fallout and Mass Effect. But, I never turn down free. Even if the game sucks, I have no money tied up in it.
