Sony rolls out Welcome Back Program (was: PlayStation Store Returns)

Archive: 1455 posts

We deserve some serious updates come Monday. Sony better pray they don't pull this mediocre update crap. We want to here that they had a great weekend and got really far into the testing stages. I have a feeling Sony will have some really really insanly mad people if this isn't done by next week.

I'm currently playing Portal 2, I noticed aperture co. and Sony have a lot in common.

So I've been researching this and it seems to be very true. Do you or anyone else think something like this would be one of the final tests to do? I mean really they said by then end of the week which would be in about 6 hours est time. So technically they haven't broken any dates yet. Do you think there is a chance of this happening tonight. I know they would probably like to do it on tuesday for us because of that being our usual update day. Considering the circumstances I don't think they even care which day is which. I'm asking you because it seems you know what your usually talking about, unless of course you have me fooled and brainwashed, do you? Anyway if you can answer this in the best way you can, I'm sure you've been looking around trying to find info regarding the situation. Thanks

That was in the Japanese press conference so going by their time zone the week has already passed.

Oh well I'm so confused with all these updates. They all say something different. I just found an article where a credible says we should be good by Monday. Well I'd believe something like that two weeks ago but now I don't even believe Sony. Actually I won't even believe it when I'm online. We really should get a very good update tomorrow at the least. It's been two days since the last US update, they should have learned a lot over the weekend. I am so ready for this to be over.

Same link others have posted. Here it is anyway.

It was up and I missed it Good news is that that would NOT happen if it wasn't nearing completion. And, according to that source, wasn't it just internal testing, meaning it wasn't up for the average user? They did say about half a week ago that it was in final stages, so I actually wouldn't be surprised if it was up tonight or tomorrow.2011-05-09 00:07:00

My prediction for tomorrows blog update

Let's hope I'm wrong.

" We've been working hard over MOTHERS DAY weekend, our staff along with the mothers have been working around the clock. We want to make sure the system is safe and well tested before we turn on the servers. We expect PSN to return in the coming days. We apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused, we realize you want to get back to playing and chatting with your friends."

Yeh, like what sense would it make to say it will be up in the past days

Sickening madness

A minor fortune spent in obtaining the PS3, the online games, the controllers, and all for what?
Imagine the poor schmucks who tried to help consumers figure out their problem in getting online, only to find it was not the consumer's problem at all...
How much time and money was spent in that?

I'm just so sick of this
Updates are pointless.
I'm anticipating an announcement that notifies us all that we have to upgrade some other hardware to get online...

What would be the point in rare DLC if they released it all for free? Some people have actually went out of their way to get it- (buying on the week it was out or creating a great level or something else special!) Besides, it's not MM's fault, I think they were hoping to release the Teachers Pack this month to encourage teachers to teach their pupils through LBP. 2011-05-09 07:26:00

I know that sony is in fact working their butts off, but they could reallybe more responsible for keeping us posted on delays and what they've been doing. Also, why can't they keep a permanent date on the PSN boot-up?!2011-05-09 08:12:00

That's what I was thinking also. Now there is a huge rumor going around that it may be 3 weeks. That will not be good. All I want from Sony is an update stating an absolute latest date. I won't be mad if they do that, what I will be mad about is if we get a replay of another update. They have to do something. I can't even watch my Netflix anymore, it stopped working lastweek.

Exactly, there's no reason to be optimistic anymore. If I ever hear from some Sony blamage, I must think as pessimistic as possible. Otherwise I will get depressed, A LOT
See how I think about Sony now? Like a chinese communist party who keeps the people away from information.

If sonys offering games I hope they are good psn games that cost 10-15 pound at least, it would be very disappointing if 50 pence minis were free only. Its the same for DLC release popular DLC, such as black ops, killzone, LBP 2 content packs which are not cheap. Again ps1 classics should be done like this maybe release popular ps1 classics such as metal gear, resident evil or tomb raider free. An alternative would be a welcome back allowence as well as free ps+ membership I think 50 pound allowance should be reasonable.

For the unable to clickers; Sony has PSN back up in 3 more week. So they say

Well I did state ages ago in this thread that something on this scale should take at least up to 4 weeks, maybe 3-4. A spokesperson for Sony Japan has warned that PlayStation Network may not be fully operational again until 31st May. As I've said before where I work our servers and services went down and we're only responsible for people in the 100,000 to a few million and it took at least 2-3 weeks fro this thing to start running then another week to be fully operational. BUT with Sony having over 70 million accounts this is way bigger so I'm even betting that this so called 31st May could be longer, mid June comes to mind. But that's me guessing based on this and from the way Sony has been.

Sony PSN restoration targets end of May
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-05-09-sony-psn-restoration-targets-end-of-may

Uncertain on restart
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-05-09/sony-s-playstation-qriocity-services-remain-shut-uncertain-on-restart.html

What can I say, I've been doing my LBP level offline on the PS3 yet playing the Gear of War 3 beta and Portal 2 on my Xbox 360. I was hoping to get LA Noire on the PS3 but now I'm not too sure. As for Portal 2 I got it for co-op over Xbox Live as there's no chance of doing this soon over PSN or even activating the free PC copy. This seems to be going from bad to worse with Sony and I bet when PSN is back online there will be such a huge demand from millions logging in that it will crash. OK I'll stop now.

I feel so bad for Sony. About 67% of the people in my school went to Xbox because of this, I don't blame em' at this point. I'm feeling tired of all this now. I won't abandon my PS3 though (too many memories)2011-05-09 11:53:00

I'm honestly staying in PS3 ONLY because of LBP exclusivity. Some games have better graphics in Xbox (ex. Red dead redemption).
Several of my friends have moved to Xbox, and I'm thinking of getting one.
SONY come on! You were the KINGS of this industry! Not sure if one month of PSN+ will be enough to get most of the players back...

Agreed, though not just LBP, other exclusives as well. R&C, Uncharted, MAG etc. If it wasn't for the great exclusives I would've bought an Xbox rather than keep my PS2.
I'm hoping for some decent stuff in the store for free due to the PS+, if there's nothing worth getting then I'll feel cheated out of Sony's apology.

Yooho~ NO WAY~ X Box Sucks, And i Own one and can say that xD
i have only used it to play Fable 2 and Devil may cay... The system is Lame
And i really hate the controller and no way would i ever pay to play it online.
I give it to my sister's husband to use ages ago and don't want it back really much.

I'll just Keep creating levels offline. I'm a horribly slow creator anyways
So I'm good for a while ;P *mew

Some mothers at the market:
Mom1: hey has your son been acting all weird lately?
Mom2: now that you mention it, yes he has been acting weird, making his homework, inviting friends over, asked me how a football works, and he even helped me with the groceries.
Mom1: yes, my kid is exactly the same.. its very strange to actually have a son now.

On another note;

You're kidding! As much as I don't like it I keep my PS3 for exclusives and play everything else on my Xbox 360 purely as the quality and experience I get on Xbox Live is far superior to that on PSN and a more sociable one, I also find pretty cheap deals for live online and on ebay. I'm not arguing it's nothing about mine is better than yours rubbish, I'm just keeping it real to how I feel and the experience from both. But I'm not going as far as completely abandoning my PS3. I still have a love hate relationship with my PS3 and there are many things that have annoyed me about it over the years of using it. But (alas) the exclusives keep me coming back. It's a good entertainment centre when it works. As for playing offline I DO NOT TRUST that syncing trophies and certain saves will be 100% safe as I have lost stuff in the past due to updates. So I'm just doing my LBP level offline instead.

LOL not sure about a baby boom but I do see lots of kids making more constructive use of their time.

I wouldn't put much stock into any stories by the media, no matter how reputable they are. On the whole, they know about as much as we know, with the downside being that they can and will sensationalise and omit portions wherever possible to get a good story out of it. (This link (http://www.nowgamer.com/news/5674/psn-hack-national-press-overreacts) is a great example of that) Sony have given official statements, I'll go by those and wait until I hear otherwise.

Of course, it's not like the official statements give us much to go by . . .

My basic guess is that PSN is going to be down for some time, but it doesn't stop my checking the eu blog every couple of hours to hear otherwise

Well if you have the money I'd recommend it. Luckily I got both consoles free with rather good mobile phone contract deal. My 1st one did die on me, by then I realised a better chip set called Jasper was out so I hunted it down and got the cheap arcade one, slotted in my HD and continued. I think it's been 3 years and it's still fine.

BUT when people ask me I never immediately say get an Xbox 360 or get a PS3 I always ask what sort of gamer are you. Then tell them the pros and cons of each and let them decide. Being a fan girl doesn't help anyone to make the best decision but yours, as everyone is different even though I admit I am on my Xbox 360 more then my PS3.

Alas, I am now checking the Sony blog a lot less during the week.

Man... Wish I had gotten an XBOX instead of a 3DS... Bloody useless thing is incomplete with no online (will be supported later apparently, but who releases an unfinished console?) and there isn't a single good game out yet. Of course, my mind about this will change.

May 31st, huh? Well, I have no faith that they can do this. They will discover a "fatal" flaw and have to remake it again. If only the Xbox actually had those great games. Though, truthfully, PS3's library kind of sucks as well. Ps2 had a far superior library. PS3 has modnation and LBP. Everything else is pretty much some kind of shooter or can be found on other consoles. Xbox has Lost Odyssey and some other RPGs that look good but I'm not going to trade in mainly due to the media server on PS3...

Sony sucks... I don't even care anymore...

I've decided to wait until later this evening to see what happens. I'm sorry but I know we are all hearing 31st but who knows what while be posted on our blogs, could be something different, at least I'm hoping. It could also be a plan for a Sony to look like the hero. They could being saying a later date in japan, knowing we all will find out. Then tonight or sometime this week it'll pop on and everyone will be like "omg your the best". Wow I just looked at what I wrote and it's starting to sound pathetic lol. I've said it earlier, I think we deserve I decent update explaining what is going on and how long it'll take. I really wish LA Noire was coming out tomorrow so I'd have a nice long single player to play.

I you'd like to attend Sony's funeral services will be held in my backyard.

Once again, 31st May is the date for FULL restoration of PSN services. Restoration is phased. Online gaming will return BEFORE May 31st.

No, it can't be.
Is everyone losing faith in the PS3? I love my PS3 because of exclusive games and also because the PSN is free. On Xbox, you have to pay, and the setup is a big step down from the PSN. And even though this sucks, at least when it comes back, it will still be free! And we are getting awarded free stuff for an unavailable free service! The only thing I think they really owe us for is the games that we can't play online atm, Qriocity users, and members who bought PS+.
Maybe I don't have the same or right perspective but IMO, PSN is still the king of all gaming networks.

I can't even watch my Netflix anymore, it stopped working lastweek.
You should call Netflix regarding this issue. I have been using Netflix just fine all throughout this. I think because they are a seperate company, their service should still be working.

I actually just talked with them earlier. Unfortunately I somehow logged myself out of Nexflix through the PS3. The guy told me it'll work fine until you log out. I guess the 'keep me logged in' option plays a part in watching Netflix. I asked for some kind of compensation, at first it was a no. I then told him I don't really have anything to watch it on, well I do but it sucks, j told him all this and he let me see what I can do. After being on hold he returned with "we are going to give you a month of service for free". That's really cool, so I don't have my account drafted on the 25th of June, one less bill to pay.

He also said something intresting. He was saying o was lucky to get anything because they don't know what they will do for the people effected by the outage. I guess anyone who wasn't on auto sign cannot watch Netflix. So that means anyone who signed up during the downtime would not be able to watch movies or tv shows. The good news I will also get whatever they give to those costumers on top of what they just did for me. I miss Rescue Me and Sons of Anarchy.

Ok... now I'm mad.
Not because the PSN isn't restored but because there has been no update from Sony. It would be nice, especially with all these rumors.

But they will probably say something like:
"We are working around the clock (except...I'm pretty sure they don't work on weekends). The investigation blah blah blah blah.... steps to ensure security. We have made progress in restoring blah blah blah soon. Thanks for your patience. Blah. Shortly we will update you soon of anything else we find out in the coming days soon. Blah blah blah around the clock, soon."

Why do I even care?

We have made progress in restoring blah blah blah soon. Thanks for your patience. Blah. Shortly we will update you soon of anything else we find out in the coming days soon. Blah blah blah around the clock, soon."

Why do I even care?

This is it for me, if I don't get a decent update I'm going outside and picking flowers.

Would you mind telling the pros and cons of each system. It'll help me make a decision, I'm going back and forth.

Hi METALPUNKS, I haven't forgotten you, but if I end up listings the details (a very long one) this will end up being flame bait and a 'mines bigger than yours argument' and I know men get a bit touchy about that ha ha. However, I do stand by my statement earlier that the quality and experience I get on Xbox Live is far superior to that on PSN and it's a more sociable one. But I won't be attending any PS3 funerals soon as I have the best of both. But it does make me wonder how much money Sony has lost over this and other services tied into PSN. Shame.

Anyone know how to hit a website with a baseball bat without damaging your computer monitor?

Well, you would have to hook up your computer to a plasma tv as the refresh rate on monitors and LCDs is simply too low to allow for the screen to adjust to the impact of the bat. You must also think about the backlash that could hit other people's screens in the process. Unfortunately, you will have to wear gloves and a wooden bat as metal conducts too much electricity. The gloves are to soften the impact on your hands, though they need to be double-ply.

There's a bunch of techno-babble about it too, but I don't know...

You don't have to worry about that. It's was taken care of when the hackers basically went there with a wrecking ball and totally destroyed everything it's path.

Here is some great news! I've been waiting to have this cleared up.

There was some unfortunate wording in a Bloomberg news report on Sunday about Sony?s PlayStation Network, leading many publications to report that the network will be down until May 31. But that?s incorrect, according to Sony spokesman Patrick Seybold.
In fact, Sony has not mentioned a date for the restart of the PlayStation Network, which has been down since April 20. There is no new information about when the service will be back up, Seybold said. The exact restart date is a big deal because Sony?s online gaming service has more than 77 million registered users and many of them are anxious about when they can play online games again.
Bloomberg said that Sony spokesman Shigenori Yoshida said Sunday that Sony is uncertain when it can resume services. The story should have stopped there but then it went on to say that Sony is adopting better security ?and its plan to restart the services fully by May 31 is unchanged, he said.? That?s where the confusion comes in. Last week, Sony?s No. 2 executive said that Sony?s goal is to restore the service in May (which is where Bloomberg evidently got the May 31 date).
In fact, if it takes until May 31 to get the service back up, that would be pretty catastrophic, since it would mean the service would be down for a total of around 41 days. But a lot of things were uncertain a week ago. Hirai said back then that Sony planned to get the service back up ?this week,? which ended on Saturday May 7. Now Sony says only that it will take longer to get the service back up than it thought. But publications are reporting that ?PlayStation Network might not be back until May 31.? Such headlines are wrong.
Seybold said, ?I agree. Trying to clean it all up now.?
In other words, relax folks There is nothing new here. Meanwhile, another report from Cnet, the tech news site, is also being called into question. Cnet reported an ?exclusive? story that predicted that Anonymous, the hactivist group that has tangled with Sony, planned on a ?third attack? against Sony?s web sites. The attack was supposed to happen over the weekend, but it didn?t. Now Cnet said that the attack may have been averted by the publicity and Sony?s reaction to it. Cnet said that the report may have alerted Sony to a new vulnerability, which was closed off. And now Anonymous has no avenue back into Sony?s servers. Sony isn?t being absolutely precise here, but Seybold said in an email, ?There is no accuracy to that report. We?re focused on ensuring the security of the network before bringing the services back online.?

Before i would never get any spam. I was very careful with my second email account. I only use it for billing info and Sony. From time to time I'd get a junk email, but lately I've had two in the past week and half that are asking mentor my banking drafting number so they can deposit money from I inherited. This is not uncommon spam but it is weird it started for me in the wake of all this.

Not sure if anyone has posted on this but if they have, I apologize.
I just happen to be reading the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for PSN and found it very interesting. I have read them before but thought I would re-read them again to refresh my memory on what all PSN users agree to when we use PSN/Sony services. I didn't think much of what I read before when I clicked the 'I accept' button, but I decided to re-read them since all of our personal information is floating around who knows where. I was very surprised at what WE all have agreed to.
The one I found most interesting is the Privacy Policy:

http://us.playstation.com/support/privacypolicy/index.htm

Again, I apologize if someone has posted on this before.

"Dear Sony, Today I saw a deer outside, maybe if you finish the security test fast enough, I'll let you ride an elevator to the break room and tell you about that time I saw a deer."

...wait, what were we talking about again?

Oh, right, right, PSN down.
Well its been 20 days and nothing's happened, even tho people kept saying and acting as if they'd loose it with half a day with PSN, but here we are, as if nothing happened, sure, maybe a little annoyed or bored, but really, has it affected anyone THAT badly?

I for one am ok with this outage, and say let it take as long as it wants, the more you think about it and want it back, the longer it seem, the more you go on about your business, doing whatever else, the less it seems to matter.

Nope.
I went back to playing Ratchet and Clank, part one, on the PS2, then on to part 2 and Up Your Arsenal.
Messed around with the Wii for a few days, then dusted off the 1960's era Atari console.
(Pacman, Ms Pacman, Asteroids) After a day or so that too got boring.
Finally, I went back to the PS3.
Started playing LBP for a bit and had an idea for a new level...and then remembered it was still offline.
My 9 yr old asked, is it still offline?"
"Yes"
"Think it will be back up before the summer?"
I know if I take a guess as to when, if ever, it will be up, I will be remembered for my lie.
"Honestly, no one knows," I replied. And I am certain I am right.

Shame it's not up yet. I'm just glad the rumor of May 31st is up. Also, how bad is it that that guy (Seybold or something rather) is saying there is no news. How can someone so high up in the chain of command not have news? Of course, that's assuming they are not lying to us... Which is impossible, right.

And as I've been browsing through the thread, I've noticed reports of credit card fraud. Well I'm offended. What's wrong with me? Why am I not getting spam? Why don't the hackers like me? We were going to have crackers and tea, just like the British, but no... Now I have to have it alone. Thanks hackers! THANKS!

Since the first day of the outage, I've been thinking everyday that it is impossible that it could last more than 2 weeks. Now, we are slowly reaching a month in the outage. And the outage slowly becomes an "out(R)age"... (which is a perfectly natural outcome)... However, I'm with Sony, no matter what... Until the out(R)age, they provided a good service (and one that is free of charge, unlike their rival(s))... I also should clearly state that I'd NEVER pay for playing console games online... Let's wait with patience and in peace, it's the best thing we can do...2011-05-10 16:26:00

Latest update from the Sony blog:
__________________________________________________ _____________________________________
PSN RESORTATION TIMELINE UPDATE
"I know you all want to know exactly when the services will be restored. At this time, I can’t give you an exact date, as it will likely be at least a few more days. We’re terribly sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work through this process."

Since I can't comment on the blog, I'll just do it here:
Ok, thanks for the brevity. It speaks volumes of your sincerity. But I still think you should think of the maximum amount of time possible that it could take you to finish and tell us that is the day it will be up. Because now, in a few days when the PSN is still not up, we will all be upset again because you are going to maybe/maybe not make an update about how there is still more work to be done.
...I think I have more of an issue regarding their updates than the actual problem of the PSN outage. Lol

Wow what a small update. At least it's some kind of update. I was expecting much more than that. I don't if anyone argues wIth me but Sony sucks right now. It's like they don't care at all. Basically they'll get it up when they feel like it. I
Sure they are working around the clock, but they don't really sound like it. You'd like after no blog posts in 5 days they would write something a little longer and more apologetic. I hate these people right now. Honestly if Xbox had all my favorite games on it I'd be buying one as we speak. I mean come on it seems like ages since I've been online and I'm growing tired of the BS. At this point it has nothing to with actually getting online. It's the way they are handling this. Anyone can feel different about this but you have to admit they could have been taking a different approach to this.

Nobody cares about your pointless updates. What a shocker! They once again release an update about an update. Maybe I'm to blame a little for being upset. I should know by now not to expect anything more. Everytime I get my hopes up they always get shot down. No timeline what so ever, I find that hard to believe. I think they no exacty what time frame we are looking at. I'm thinking they are just afraid to say the actual date because they are afraid customers would be outraged. So of course there gonna say in a few days. That's what they've always said.

Also even though Brink developers say they are not feeling any change as far as game sales go I think that'll change if things don't change soon. Isn't it an online based game. Soon people will tell other people don't buy it because it's not fun. I get that if you really wanted to play it online
you'd wait but most people aren't going to wait. It just sucks for those guys because they can't showcase their games full potential. That's just with them, imagine what all these games are going through.

Ok so ya I could not stop babbling. I'm sorry for that but Sony need to stop playing the part of the victim. We are the only victims. At one point they were also but after seeing how they've handled everything in the past weeks I think they have become the criminal. In the end even after my long reply all I want along with everyone else is things to be back to normal, oh, and things to be handled differently. The good ole days are a forgotten time.

The people that were on the playstation blog posting replys can no loner. I guess the cookies probably expired. That shows how long this has been going on.

I have a reply for you Netflix problem. Now I can watch it again. They did something lastnight so we can watch again. That's why you couldnt lastnigt because they were working on something. I called them when it started working to have them take the free credit they were giving me. They were more than cooperative and actually let me keep it. Now that's a good company.

I haven't been able to pick flowers. I've been on forums for five days now, I haven't seen sunlight in days.

Thank goodness about Netflix! Sony should take a serious look at Netflix's business model and follow suit. I can't believe they let you have the 30 days free, plus no need for the Apple TV now. Brilliant.

I was curious why I saw no comments on the blog. I thought that maybe Sony somehow logged out all those people because they were tired of hearing the complaints. Either way, it is bad. What other direct line is there for those truly desperate people to use in order to threaten Sony with giving Microsoft their business? lol

You can't pick flowers, and I can't hit flowers... Who am I kidding, I live in the desert - there are no flowers. I am at a loss of what to do.

I was going to be seriously bumming tonight if I couldn't use it again.

I really don't think we need to get that much of an insight into what you do outside the forum.

bad news. I go to use netflix and of course it's back to not working again. I don't get it. I don't care what anyone says but this problem with Sony is affecting many other businesses. If you would of asked me 3 weeks ago if I though we'd be offline for this long I would have said no way. I just can't believe it. I expect another update tonight. I know it won't happen but come on. I have played everything I want to play.

Lol, interesting.

I wish I remembered what a flower looked like, so I could mentally hit it with a baseball bat.

I think Sony is single-handedly going to take down the planet with this mess. Obviously I'm not serious, but you are right, it is effecting a lot of companies. Including Netflix.

Messing with Netflix = Evil.

I know you all want to know exactly when the services will be restored. At this time, I can?t give you an exact date, as it will likely be at least a few more days. We?re terribly sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work through this process.

No known date yet people, there, they said it now more estimation so the complainers stop complaining about "Why you keep lying?!" "Why you lied on your estimation of when it was gonna be up?!"

So there, they don't know, happy?

I honestly can't remember the last time they said that... It's been so long

Honestly, what do they think they are proving with this lack of communication? I guess it really is good for business to first have your network be rather easy to hack (three times already...), then not inform your customers, then post some dates which end up being wrong (more on this later), and then go into sheer silence. The problem is that they see themselves as gods or deities. They think they are above us and we are just the dogs to pick up the crumbs that they drop from the table. We are the peasants while they are the Kings and Queens. Sure, they might not want to get our hopes up, but we are LOSING HOPE! Even the loyalist fans (loyal to a company as big as Sony is idiocy) are losing faith. Even in their blog they have made it obvious that they are far more concerned with catching the hackers than trying to get online back.

Moving away from their notion of superiority, they are doing things WRONG. They need to work solely on getting online gaming back up, then work on the shop. Don't do it all at once. It's called task-based work and even small companies know you should do one thing at once. Sure they might not all be able to work on the system, but surely they could speed things up a bit. But no, they are being slow and unintuitive...

It's really a shame that Sony has approached the PS3 in such a way. While I commend the system itself, the removal of Backwards Compatibility was the beginning of a downward spiral. Sure, Other OS may not have been used often, but that should have been OUR CHOICE. If you start a tomato farm and find a worm in one tomato, you don't dispose of the entire tree. No, you simply toss away that bad part. Other OS was that tree, and the hole where people could get in was that tomato. The PS3 is the whole pasture.

I am disgusted... Don't they know I just got my new TV?!?!?!

And Silverleon, people are just frustrated with the down time and that it took so long for an update with so little.

I'll be the first to admit I realize I'm one of those complaining to complain. Like I've said before I won't believe a thing until I see it up right in front of me. I just been getting myself fired up, for what? Nothing I suppose. I should know by now not to expect much. Sony uses words very wisely in their updates. You can't look at what right in front of your face you have to read between the lines, I have gotten good at that throughout this entire ordeal. This time all I saw was blah blah AT LEAST BLAH BLAH. Well what's the most Sony, a month. I have purchased two games since the start of this, no online for both of them. Pretty soon I'm going to complain to complain about complaining lol. What a sad sad person I've become. I really need to step back and look at how I live my life.

I'm starting a 24hr no complain law. I'm the only one involved so far. It's called 24 awesome hours of positive posts.

Thank you Sony for keeping us up to date with blog posts, you have shown me you care so much about us. Take as long as you need, I don't care to watch Netflix or play any online games. I love playing my single player games and collecting trophies. You've made me open my eyes to other things in life, not everything is gaming. I will be waiting patiently for the return of your new and improved service. Keep on keeping on. We love you!

I may have written that a couple days after the outage but try ain't getting that from me now. Here I go complaining again. Lol I'm stopping right......

Guys. Sony is doing something to help us. Be grateful. Do you need online to play video games? No. Is Sony even trying? Yes.
They have the FBI tracking Anonymous, and they're doing what they can. They're doing something to bring back PSN, and no, they might not be making good choices, but they're doing something, and that should be all that matters. They're trying, not lying on the couch, trying, not watching TV, trying. Sony is bringing back PSN, that should be something to be happy about. We're asking Sony to hurry up baking a perfect pie that needs time to bake, and we already have a big slice of that pie already cooked, sitting right in front of us.

We should be patient too. It IS a virtue, getting something is better than nothing. Remember that they are estimates and that Sony is a group of humans. They're not perfect.

Fading-Dream, if Sony was the way you described them, then they would be promising the servers by June. They are helping us.

I've been too busy with my new Maple Story addiction after trying the game a few days ago. It's even pulled me away from creating and training to keep LBP platforming skill up during downtime. ><

I need to put this out there. It seems we have a little civil war going on among us. Some people are mad and some say relax. I guess when it boils down to it we all want the same thing, service restored by Sony. I am on the mad side in all this, I will defend us by saying a few things. This is not to put down anyone down this is just to explain how we feel. Some of you say stop it guys Sony is trying, they are doing everything they can. I agree. I'm sure they are doing the best they can do to restore PSN. The argument I have along with many others is I think this could have been handled in a better manner.

Here we are on week 3 of no online, no chat, and no store. Games we have purchased to play online cannot be played, infamous 2 beta testers cannot test, Dlc and downloadable games cannot be downloaded and most of all we no longer get to experience the reason most of us buy a ps3 these days. Yes we buy it for playing games but over the past few years online gaming has become a huge part of that, we just want it back. I don't totally disagree with the people that say leave Sony alone, let them do what they have to do,they are trying very hard. This is what I don't agree with and it's has to do with how they have been handling the situation. It won't go into exact dates and times because I'm sure we all know unless you've been living on Pandora and have no contact with earth.

We've been told three different dates now and none have been correct. Not only does Sony not follow through they don't even give us an explanation of why it's still not up. They may say something along the lines but still it's not a decent answer of why. Another thing is updates. We went five days in the US without an update, when we finally get one it's a few lines long, still with no real information. After all th rumors that floated around this weekend you'd think we would get a little more. If somebody plays you in your everyday life you can tell, I feel like we are getting played. It's not fair for them to release crappy information and then expect us to sit around waiting on the edge of our seats for them to post on the blog again. It's feels like they dangle it in our faces an laugh at all of us while they do it. I know that's not what they actually do but it can't take away that feeling. This isn't 2 or 3 days into this where they'd be able to get away with it. This is 3 weeks, it's time to be treated like the loyal costumers we are. And yes we are loyal even though we are upset. Look at us we are still sitting here with a system that some of us have no use for without online. Ya there are plenty of single player games and I enjoy many of them, some of my friends don't even have a single trophy because they only play games like Black ops. By the way that makes me upset that they won't play anything else, I think they are missing out but that's their thing and that's why they spent their hard earned money. My point is take as long as you need but we are the ones making you money, we deserve to be handled like we are part of your empire, we feel like the beggars outside the gates. We are why you are Sony, without out us you would be S. There are other letters that went with that letter but I'll leave that to your imagination.

So maybe you took a look at my post maybe not. I'm not saying anything bad toward the people defending everything Sony does. I'm just here to make it clear why some of us feel anger. Hopefully soon enough we can all get back to doing the things that were taken from us and this will never happen again. Again my problem is we don't know when that'll be because we are told nothing. Well at least nothing that has any solid ground to it.

Goodnight and Goodluck Sony.

Just a note: I loved the title of their last blog post.

Hehe I'm starting to like it when people think I'm trying to be a mod when I'm not, actually.

Anyways I never said people weren't allowed to complain, I was simply stating there is no point and that if you keep complaining it just shows what kind of person you are, nothing about it being not allowed or or to not do it. xD
(Btw, since when is tired of hearing someone complain = acting mod anyways? O_o)

Beh, its not like not being able to play or enter your levels for one or two more weeks is gonna kill you (Heck, it may actually help you. xD), nor like all DLC was deleted of servers, you'll have your stuff when PSN returns, that's the kind of things you have to deal with when buying stuff online, you got to realize ther's gonna be times its not gonna be available.

Anywho, whatever my other point was, to the people also asking for updates daily/ hourly/ every minute/ second/ milisecond, think about before it was important, sure, but the infor they needed to shar is already shared, what else can they update, really?
They already said they don't have a definite date, and they haven't come up with full details on the "Welcome back bundles" so what are they supposed to update exactly?
Even if they updated hourly, would you really care for:

Update:
"We don't have a date yet, sorry."

Update:
"We don't have a date yet, sorry."

Update:
"We don't have a date yet, sorry."

Update:
"We don't have a date yet, sorry."

Update:
"We don't have a date yet, sorry."

Update:
"We don't have a date yet, sorry."

Update:
"We don't have a date yet, sorry."

Because that's basically what's been updated recently only, and it hasn't changed a thing, has it?
People would most than likely be more angry at many pointless updates like that, and its not like the more they update, the faster they can fix the network, so what exactly is it they are supposed to keep us up to date?
What they themselves don't know, or the confidential information about the investigation they cannot reveal?

One last question, are most of you asking fo updates because YOU want an update, or because everyone's asking for one, making it look like sSony's doing bad by not doing so, so its your "right" to be updated, to feel like the company really cares?

I'm sorry but I disagree. Many of us do lots of other things and I'm not getting into this go outside kick lol. I wrote a long post explaining how we feel and why. We totally understand Sony is working hard to get things done, but it's how they are treating us that ****** us off. I mean come on. Why in the world do they think it's ok to put out the last update with a title like PSN RESTORATION TIMELINE UPDATE and have absolutely nothing about a timeline. There are also huge company's now that work with Sony that feel the same way. There saying Sony isn't even talking with them, they are really angry because this whole thing is starting to affect their profits. It's hard for me to sit here and agree that they handles this right. We have a right to complain, that's how we feel. People know when they are being pushed around and there is nothing that can take that away. Anyway I think there are two sides to this and people are split right down the middle on this one.

Here's a good example of a business losing money. I'm not buying Brink because it's mainly an
online based game. Guess what I probably will never pick it up now. So now they lost the sale of the game and any DLC they may have released. It was one of those games I was on the fence with. All it took was for the gamestop employee to say it's really an online based game. After I heard that I said I'll hold off, when I do that I usually convince myself not to pick it up in the future. It's one of those games that if I don't buy it at that moment then I'll never buy it.

I really think everyone is tires of all this even the people that are cool with it. It's been a while and people want to enjoy playing online. I hate when people say "what did you do when there was no online". The thing is there is online and we live and now it's just 'poof' gone. The reason why we lived without it before is because it wasn't there. It's like people saying what did people do before cellphones. I guess people didn't call eachother as much. I remember a time where If somebody wasn't home then you wouldn't get ahold of them. What I'm saying is online gaming is something we've gotten used to and it sucks that it was taken away, no matter who you blame.

I'm done explaining myself. Nothing against you but I've tried to explain this many
times and it seem that people are either angry or ok with it, nothing will change their opinion. It is an opinion and everyone has a right to it.

I will say this though. At least there isn't a million gallons of oil being pumped into the Gulf of Mexico. This is a small problem compared to something on that big of a scale. Regardless who is complaining about what we should be thankful we are not arguing about something life changing.

I think it is funny how a lot of people say they "don't care about this whole network outage and neither should we", yet they come to this thread and post over and over. If you didn't care, don't you think you would be going "outside" or "playing PS3 offine" instead of coming here?

Well said. With a problem as small as this, the phrase "live and let live" comes to mind. I'm not upset that some people aren't upset about the outage, so why are people getting upset that we are upset about it? (It's upsetting how many "upsets" I just typed.)

Well hackers wanted to punish Sony, they definitely have. But they're also punishing millions of other consumers and businesses such as those that have released games that also focus on online play such as Brink as METALPUNKS has pointed out. Also, the co-op in Portal 2 springs to mind. Yet how many of these companys would actually sue Sony for any loss. It's risky taking that road if you're a game developer that wants to continue a relationship and publish games for that platform when you've also sued them or tried to. What about smaller devs and indie devs releasing games and DLC on the store?

Sure there's offline play but this doesn't help the sales stats on the 1st week of release as people may be waiting to get it after PSN is up in hope for a price reduction later on down the line, since they can't play it online from day 1. As for me I am weary of earning any trophies or doing new game saves when PSN is not up as I have lost stuff in the past due to game updates & those from Sony. So I don't 100% trust that syncing will be 100% correct when PSN does come online. But we'll just have to wait and see.

Oh god I didn't know we can lose data when we update. I've never had that happen to me. If lost my trophies I haven't synced I would be so frustrated. Many people say they are just pointless virtual rewards but I disagree. I enjoy getting trophies and comparing them to friends. Guess we will see like you said.

Let me say something about companys losing money from all this. You'd have to be totally out of it if you didn't think they could lose profits from this. The hackers really put a hurting on everyone throughout all of this. Now Sony is only hurting themselves by being so secretive with what's going on. Sure they are working deals with massive companys like Activision but they are forgetting about the little fish that in my opinion keep the wheels turning. These small time developers are starting to have less and less faith in Sony. These poor guys put everything they have into the games they make. These games are made with blood sweat and tears. I just feel like Sony should at least keep them up to date, from what I've seen it looks like they are in the dark as much as us. For gosh sakes Sony we keep your company alive, without us you are nothing. I bet you at least 60% of Sonys profits come from gaming, if not more. I wouldn't care so much if they would just treat us with some respect. Stop with the crappy updates. Maybe they are just protecting us from the truth but for them to totally make us wait on their every word is wrong. I don't care what they say, they know more than what they're claiming to know. A company that huge knows exactly what's going on after three weeks of being in this outage. Why is it so hard for people to believe that a multi billion dollar company isn't handling things the right way. They do not become as big as they are without playing dirty, right now they are in the mud smearing it all over eachothers faces, we can all see that.

Let's see what kind of lame update we get next. Let me just say this again. I don't care if it takes 6 months to fix this problem, let us know so we can make a decision on what we as costumers would like to do. We know what they are doing. They are giving us false hope and with false hope their still is hope and that's what they want us to have. Not because they care so much about us or because they understand we are growing impatient. The real reason is simple. If they would have told us from day 1 it was going to take almost a month there would have been a much larger number of people that would have abandoned Sony. So for them to say "a coupe days" "not much longer" and "very soon" they are just stalling, they want us to have that false hope that things will be ok soon. That's where the anger comes in, how many times do they think they can get away with that, apparently as many as they like because we are still sticking around, that's not our stupiditiy that's us backing the company that we love just like they should do for us. Also just note the US government doesn't get involved unless people are being screwed, they are the only ones aloud to do the screwing.

One question sorta of topic. What would actually happen if they ever found the hackers?

hay hay hay hay hay hay hay! they just had something bad happen they didn't expect, they just got HACKED. its like when a friend is annoyed because of being ripped off at a market or something like that, and then he is in a mood with everyone even if its not there fault. HOW ABOUT SONY STOP TRYIN TO FIX PSN FOR YOU AND DO SOMETHING ELSE WITH THERE LIVES, also i know many people who don't need a ps3 to enjoy every day of the week. i also know people who are to busy to play on a ps3. i also know people who cant afford to have a ps3! SO STOP FREAKIN COMPLAINING AND GET OF UR **** AND DO SOMETHING ELSE THAN SIT AROUND! and to put it kindly: "I'm sure you can find a way to pass the time, how about meet up with some old friends and have a laugh. hay, come on now, don't cry! Sony are trying there best I'm sure."

sorry about that major complain, i try to be friendly but sometimes well..

Again it's not about going out and finding something else to do. I don't care if people can't afford a ps3 or if people read a book or whatever it is. This is not the "do something else besides wait on Sony" thread. How in the world do people know what other people do in their everyday lives. Geesh today alone I've taken a hike painted my bathroom, cleaned the yard, and later going to have dinner and drinks with friends. I for one am not guilty of playing my ps3 too much, I am guilty of having my **** phone everywhere I go, that's an entirely different problem. I have maybe played my ps3 for a total of 15 hours this entire time and thats mainly to play Portal 2(best game ever by the way lol).

Now I'll say what you said

sorry about that major complain, i try to be friendly but sometimes well..:

Seriously I'm not bashing your opinion in any way. That's what these complaints are anyway right? Everyone has that right to say what's on their mind. As we can see it's definatly being said lol. It's just I don't like that I've sunk thousands of dollars into a company that when **** hits the fan they act as if we don't have all our hard earned money invested into them.

Look at this doing to us! We are being destroyed! Just kidding. Why in the world are people still writing articles that PSN will not return until May 31st. Was that not cleared up a couple days ago. It goes to show how the media always focuses on the negative. A major media monster like USA Today is still writing about the fact that the date is May31st. Wow do they even look into anything they report. Any little faith I had in News Corps had been totally thrown out the window. I'm starting to learnany things because of all this. We can see right smack in front of us how North America handles situations. They always make things worse than they are. The only time in my life that the news didn't make something look as terrible as the reality of it was Hurricane Katrina. I went there 3 days after and it was way worse then what was being shown on the news. Hmm..... I've got to stop reading news papers and watching television news. You can't trust any of them.

With a problem as small as this, the phrase "live and let live" comes to mind. I'm not upset that some people aren't upset about the outage, so why are people getting upset that we are upset about it? (It's upsetting how many "upsets" I just typed.)

This is not the "do something else besides wait on Sony" thread.

Neither is it the "complain about anything vaguely related to the outage" thread.

I for one come here to get news on the outage. All these complaints are making that more difficult, but that's fine. I understand people are upset and want to complain, and I'm not upset about that. Sony has made some mistakes, sure. But it does annoy me when people overreact. People go on a tantrum based on rumours, misinformation and assumptions. It's almost as if people think Sony's doing this just to spite them.

This security breach is a huge and complicated problem, and I don't think anyone here has enough information to make any kind of judgement. And also consider this: If Sony could bring PSN back sooner, surely they would do so without your complaints. And if Sony knew exactly when PSN would be online again, surely they would tell us. There's no reason why they wouldn't.

Ya but it is more of the thread to come and talk about this subject regardless the topic. I actually started a thread that would focus on what people thought was wrong or right about this whole thing, it got erased and i was told to post my OPINION here instead. And for me I hate the rumors, thats not what ****** me off. It's what I see right in front of me. It's what is post on the blog that gets me going. I won't get into that, as you can see in previous posts I've made it clear how I feel lol. I know sony is working their butts off right now, I've never said anything against that. I just know what I feel and I feel we are in the dark about a lot of things. One update out of all of them were a decent update, the rest are just there to fill in blank spaces.

You have your opinion and I have mine. That the point I'm trying to make. Then there are cold hard facts right in front of you, that you can't deny.

Again let me say this because I know it's hard to get what people are feeling in a post. If I across angry I don't mean to. I'm truly sorry if you feel or felt that way. I'm just of those guys that defends in what I believe and so are you and everyone else here. So I am saying with most respect toward you and your opinion. I'm going to end this on a good note and say hope to see you soon online playing some long awaited LBP(or whatever your into). Have a great night doing what you do, I know it's not playing any online games on the Sony network lol. Who knows maybe it will be. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, I've had one finished on my moon since the day after the PSN went down... I'm thinking it may be better to wait than to publish right when it comes up, b/c I imagine there will be a huge flood of levels on the cool pages... it may be easy to get buried.

I have a question has anyone heard if we can change our email address after all this. I know you couldn't do it before but I was thinking maybe since all this happened. I just don't want to loose everything.

Also where is Keven Butler right now?
We can use some humor right about now.
I have an idea let Kevin Butler release the blogs as video blogs, I would be much happier if he delivered the updates.

If only you get there early. LBP levels grows every 3 seconds, but since Sony cannot tell us it be activated. And if you hear a person say "Yay, it's on!", Sign in and fire it online. Hope no cheats get there before you like popular survival games and heart if you like/hate whatever.

Bet you get there and if it on cool pages, and if it is, well done.
Also if it Mm picked, Congrats

I think that 100 hearts on your locked and unpublished level clearly shows that you have no reason to worry. I too can hardly wait to play Project Loki.
But the question is good - considering the previous pace of publishing and the length of the pause, assume that we will be flooded with around 50000 new levels. To publish or to wait, it is a question now ?

PSN was back up about an hour ago, I just played some LBP2 levels online, but there were so many being uploaded. Also I played some COD Black ops and had attack dogs twice.
It's down now again so don't bother <3

I heard there will be a firmware update coming when PSN is back up to force all users to change their password. Nearly 77 million user accounts and hashed passwords were stolen. It's unknown whether or not they were able to reverse-engineer the hashes, but if I recall Sony wasn't going to take any chances.

Again...that's just people twisting words...

Sony said it won't have ALL up at once, so even if they bring PSN up, PS store and otehr stuff may not be, but they said that EVERYTHING would be up BY MAy 31st, meaning tehy're gonna resture things bit by bit, and that if all goes as planned, all should be up BEFORE May 31st.

He asked if "the only info that was stolen were stolen from a 2007 database, so anybody that registered any other year is fine, right?"
His concerns about what year he registered are irrelevant. He will be forced to change it once the firmware goes into effect, regardless.

Q: When or how can I change my PlayStation Network password?
A: We are working on a new system software update that will require all users to change their password once PlayStation Network is restored. We will provide more details about the new update shortly.

I assume a similar update will be required of SOE users, as well.

I know some people thought that Sony was using the recent tsunami as a crutch. But has anyone really stopped and thought about all the potential effects the tsunami actually had on the company. No doubt many of their employees were effected by it in some way or another. And now they are having to work extra long hours to fix this network outage. They are having a terrible bout of bad luck. When it rains, it pours, as the old adage goes.2011-05-12 16:24:00

Tonight on on the new "GameTraillers TV With Geoff Kelghley," in SpikeTv, says "PSN Surprise." as the description.
Sounds suspicious...and I mean suspicious as in something to call for views, as I highly doubt they got anything worthwhile.

My odds on that "Surprise":
94% - Nothing Worthwhile/ some dumb thing/ nothing to do with the Downtime.
5.5% - An actual date for when PSN/s back up, and/ or just the info on what the "Welcome back bundle" is gonna be for NA.
0.5% - Some BS from Sony saying the downtime was actually in preparation for something else, nothing to do with hacking or whatnot, aka: a "surprise."
Or Permanenetly shut down PSN.
(Some update, new console network, w/e is too farfetched to be credible.)

Hehe, I know the 3rd option is completely unlikely (but still possible.) but I mainly put it there to at least have 3 options.
But yeah...my guess is mainly that its not gonna be something important, or of relevance to the downtime.

Do note their use of "Per cent" as they call it.
Also note their 50 - 20 percentages that sum up to a whooping 70 percent total.
Most of their "per cents" do't seem to match up at all, so its seems to be more of a "just to turn people" kinda article.

Here is a messed up, true story.
One day, a long, LONG time ago, I went to game stop to buy an Xbox. I saw an expensive BRAND NEW Xbox on the highest shelf, so I asked to buy it. After I purchased it, I headed home, excited to play my BRAND NEW Xbox. When I got inside of my house, I opened up the cardboard box and set up the Xbox wires and console to my TV. I then turned the Xbox on and inserted a new Xbox game I got for Christmas. Right when the game finally loaded onto the main menu, The green ring on the Xbox turned red and the system shut off. I was very upset, and keep trying to reset the Xbox, but nothing worked. I googled it, and I saw Information about the Red Ring of Death. I will never buy an Xbox after that.

I was very upset, and keep trying to reset the Xbox, but nothing worked. I googled it, and I saw Information about the Red Ring of Death. I will never buy an Xbox after that.

This happened to me also. Mine was also branding spankin' new and yet I had the RROD right out of the box! Talk about a huuuuuge let down.

This is my tragic story right after I picked up my xbox a long time ago:

"YAY! I just got a new Xbox! Here I go, I am going to plug it in! Now, I am going to turn it on! Omgomg loooook I am putting the game in! Weeee! Omgimsoexcited!"
*waits*
*claps in excitement*
*waits some more*
*spots a red ring*
*googles: "xbox not turning on red light"*

*cries*

I don't know what's up with some of you people about rants, speculations, disappointments and the likes...
It's down, cope with it, it would be temporary.
And...if you want to stay updated just keep an eye on www.n4g.com , all the game related news, rumors and speculations are there within 5 minutes from the announcement.
So, chill down.

Darn Maple Story crash. What's the deal with all the problems with online networks, sites, and games lately. Is this some kind of massive plan of world domination by a rogue hacker or hackers?

For a large company worth billions of dollars working around the clock as they say, you'd think it'd be up by now. -_- This must be a really complicated security system. I expect this security system to be so advanced it's ahead of its time.

I don't believe for a second they've been working around the clock, which implies 24/7. They need to hire people that can get the job done faster, work harder, like the mexican mouse Speedy Gonzales.

well, to put it in perspective, they are losing more money per day than i make in, oh god lets be honest, several years. And you can bet they are aware of it. the fact that they aren't just throwing the thing up means they are serious about doing it right this time.

but the lack of news, that's kind of irritating.

For everyone who is seriously loyal to Sony, yet still annoyed with Sony for one or more various reasons, like myself:

Step 1. Find a friend who questions why you are still interested in playing a PS3, instead of an Xbox, after everything that has happened.
Step 2. Defend PS3 against the evil Xbox. (no offense to anyone on this board)
Step 3. Feel better in knowing that even though this sucks, we are getting:
A. A one million dollar insurance policy in case our identity is stolen
B. 2(?) or is it 3 free PS3 games
C. Free month subscription to PS+
D. A years free subscription to an identity theft protection company
Step 4. Think happy thoughts. (such as "whoopee the PSN is still free!")

Hopefully this can help you feel more positive.

There's some things you should consider, though. If you have a complex system, new people you hire won't know the system and face a steep learning curve. And the more people you have, the trouble you get organizing everyone to work together.

This is apparently a leaked letter to the developers of Sony

Sony promises to do everything it can to help out those affected.

A letter said to be written by Sony PR VP Rob Dyer to the platform holder's numerous publishing and development partners, following the extended downtime of PSN, has been leaked into the hands of IndustryGamers.

The letter goes into detail about the events over the past month, but also reveals that Sony promises to do all it can to help out its partners.

"As a valued partner we aim to keep the lines of communication open so that you are aware of our progress," it read.

"Our focus has been to confirm the security of the networks, protect customer data and get the services back on line as quickly as possible. We will do our best to respond to all of your inquiries and we will do everything we possibly can to support you.

"We are doing everything we can to bring these services back online as soon as possible. We will update you with more information as soon as we can, but please call your account executive if you have further questions."

The complete letter can be found on IndustryGamers.

VideoGamer.com Analysis

There remains no firm date for the return on PSN, and it would appear Sony's partners are as in the dark as the consumers.

Well it does not explain when it will be back online but it reassures the developers to not panic

Or even, it could be so complexly simple that we won't understand no matter how they describe it.

Or they could just not know themselves, I know, sounds crazy, but listen to me, people tend to not be able to answer about something they don't know, so what IF they themselves don't know?

Anywho...Rumor time!
Seems they're also taking tiem to revamp PSN and add new features, such as cross-game chat and in-game video chat, maybe the ability to change username.
Again, these are all RUMORS, so don't expect it to be there, but hope it is.

Cool I like those rumors? This is the day I predicted it'd be back on. Friday the 13th. We should at least get a decent update tonight.

Also about them not knowing. I sort of in a way meant that. I was saying it worse then they thought meaning they don't even know what's going on. Not what you probably thought I meant. There is just more to it then they are letting on. Whatever it is it's making them look horrible to me by giving us one update in seven days. I don't care if they updated Japan or not I don't look at the japan blog. I look at the US or EU blog. I understand that they don't want to update if they have nothing to update on but at least tell us what your doing even if we don't understand it. There are enough people out there to help us understand it.

I'm going to be livid we don't get an update today. That's means we won't get one till Monday and to me that's the final straw. We shall see soon enough.

Some people say "what did you do before online", well I did nothing because I really was never into gaming. I bought a ps3 over an xbox because my best friend had it and he lives far away. I bought to game ONLINE with him. Sure, after buying it I started to play single player games but I did purchase a ps3 mainly for chatting and online fun. So for them not to tell me crap after I spent 500 dollars on their hardware makes me made. I loved the ps3 so much I then bought a slim just because. Mine worked fine but I didn't mind spending the money on a product I trusted an also to get a bigger hard drive.

Come on Sony we deserve something today.

I am starting to lose hope that we will ever see PSN again.
Maybe the damage done is so irreparable that they are struggling with how to tell us... it's over.

Or, that it will take longer than anyone ever anticipated because they must build a brand new system from the ground up.

There's some things you should consider, though. If you have a complex system, new people you hire won't know the system and face a steep learning curve. And the more people you have, the trouble you get organizing everyone to work together.

Maybe this is what is taking so long. Think about it. Sony doesn't want anyone to be able to hack into their system again. They could be changing the entire setup to eliminate the chance of a repeat.

You read that somewhere, didn't you?
I remember reading that exact same sentence in one of those site's comments/ articles. xD

Anyways, do remember this is no simple, small thing they're doing, not to mention many of the neutral tech-saavy people out there called it, that would take a lot more than the one week many expected, so I would say they're still withing their range of expected time.

Usually if I tell someone " it most likely will be a few days " I mean it like, hey, give me a few days if not I'll let you know. Not give me at least a few days but at most could a year. My point, that is confusing me at the moment lol, is who cares if they say 'at least'. I think well what's the most. You can say what they said and bring it out a year from now technically they are not lying.

I swear they spend more time worry about how to word an update then they do doing anything else. Sony's Patrick Seybold has his position at Sony for a reason. He knows how to say just the right thing to cover their butts.

Maybe I'll most likely at least be mad if sony doesn't try their worst at doing what they do best.
Whatever you get the point.

Well I go to the blog for news and here for opinions. I don't recall reading it anywhere.
I'd say they are either within their expected time or that they have no idea how long it will be...

But if they put a "give me {insert amount of time here} at most" maybe people would get so discouraged and sell their PS3's. Which is why they keep stringing us along in such a way. To keep the hope going so people don't say to themselves, "Well that's too long of a wait, I'm giving up." and then sell their consoles.
These things tell me that it will be a long, long time before we see the network up again. If it was another week or two, don't you think they would tell us? Probably so. But I definitely wouldn't want to tell all 70 million fans that it won't be up for another month or 2 or 3... Or, it could be that they still have no idea how long it could take, which tells me that it will take a long time.
Bottom line, we shouldn't even have to be having these types of guessing game conversations.

Ya I know. Im thinking it's either that or it's they are going to release it soon and they want to look really good when it comes back. People say things like "thank you so much you are the greatest". They will use the element of surprise on us.

Things like this are exactly why Sony can't let this go on! I am a big fan of Sony and I hate to see everyone switching, when clearly, the PS3 is top console.

Why, its mostly only the annoying people that are foolish enough to do that (seeeing as how desperate they are for online play.) so I say let them, its better, they get the online play and we get less annoying people.

I know here at our gamestops they will not accept anymore trades for ps3's. I'm not sure if it's right now or soon but I saw a sign for 100 dollars off ps3's.

I know I get angry when I talk about this but I still would never actually trade my ps3 for an xbox. I do support Sony and I've always thought they were more than fair, especially with perks like ps plus, also the actual ps3 itself is a beast. I love how things get added all the time and how it's presented to us. I just don't like the lack of updates and the lousy updates when we finally get them.

Otherwise I think they handled things well. They don't have to do a welcome back program but they are because they realize this sucks. They don't have to do anything for us.

If a hurricane comes through and destroys a town and knocks out cable and electricity it's not the companys fault. It becomes a problem when they don't let you know when it'll be turned on and when they give you the run around.

I use my ps3 for many things and from what I here xbox is limited to what it can do. Also nothing looks better then a blu-ray movie.

I want some info for heaven sake. See this is where Sony is a good company, most company's that big would probably just lie and say 'ya this date it'll return', but Sony is doing it the right way even if it aggravates some of us. I would love to see them come back with features that we've all been waiting for. I know they want to make sure things are perfecto. They don't want to put the network up for it to be taken back down again. If that ever happened they know it'd be it for them. Sony doesn't want to just make it right, they want to make it work right.

I posted it either early in this thread or in the previous thread before we knew the exact nature of the situation.

It'll be interesting to know if it's still there, although getting a large quantity of preowned systems in is going to have a healthy profit there's only so much space in the stock room.

People are overreacting.

PSN is down for 1 measely month and already people are complaining, switching in for Xboxs, etc.

So NOW, we have a better community; the people that stuck with Sony and were patient. While ex-PSN users get RROD on their 'glorious' Xboxes.

Quick complaint/question:

So with PSN being down and all, I've found other things to do like most people. I don't enjoy playing video games as much offline since part of the draw is playing with my friends and since that isn't an option currently, I haven't been on my PS3. I just went on my PS3 today after not being on it for a week and when I scrolled down to select the game disc icon to start the game, it didn't show up. I checked if there was a game in, (since normally I leave the last one I played in) and sure enough there was. So I ejected it and put it back in, yet it still wouldn't show up. I tried my other games, and none of them worked. My question is, has anyone else had this problem before? If so, what did you do about it? I really don't want to have to send it in, since that's a drag and costs money, but I will if I have to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They say the will put the network back up by regions. Does anyone have clue what region would be first? Also what region has the most playstation users?

I still have hope for tonight, my prediction was today Friday the 13th. Having no updates so far today is a good sign. They couldn't possibly send us into yet another weekend without a single word, could they? JK

I assume it would be North America first since I assume that's where the most users are...but then again it could be another less-populated region since they may want to bring it up slowly considering they might not be able to handle the sudden jump in users.

My account would be recoverable, because it's a brazilian account and brazilian accounts don't require street name, ZIP code, etc.

Have you tried a DVD or bluray movie? I had that same thing, the bluray player apparently broke down. I was lucky to get it fixed for free because it was under warrantee, but it took a long time. Anyway, it sucks, but on the up side, you can still make backups of all your saved games (except a few locked saves like Assassin's Creed 2, stupid Ubisoft ).

Thanks man I did try a DVD and also unplugging and replugging the whole system in but to no avail. Luckily I have a 1 year warranty and the credit card company adds an additional 1 year.

http://www.giantbomb.com/news/developer-playstation-network-back-online-but-not-without-issues/3185/

"In order to recover an account, you need to know the personal information entered when the account was created. No surprise: most didn't write that down."

....Great, now watch as we all struggle trying to get back online because we didn't remember if we put Dr., OR Drive, State initials or spelled it out, a bad typo, or if you put fake info in...

Well, I am glad I haven't been working pointlessly for these past three weeks on my lbp levels then. It would all be for nothing when the network comes back up and I can't even remember what address I had on there.
Great... I was soooooo close to publishing too. Plus, I love my username.

Balls.

Why are we finding out about this from a source that isn't Sony blog? Is Seybold too lazy to put a blog up about it? It's his job! Maybe he is sick... or on vacation.

It's other parts of Sony not PSN.

Further details on developer internal testing

The internal PSN developer network is online again, suggesting Sony may switch matchmaking online soon.

"The internal PSN developer network is online again, at least it seems for some, although things are still a bit shaky at the moment such as lack of new account sign up," reported NeoGAF user Kagari.

"Looks like the full network, at least the online play/account part of it, will be back soon."

Earlier this week Eurogamer heard from a source that Sony planned to bring PlayStation Network matchmaking back online within the next couple of days.

When contacted for comment, SCE corporate communications director Patrick Seybold told Eurogamer, "We're working to get the network back on as soon as we can." Eurogamer has again contacted Sony for comment.

PlayStation 3 online gaming has been unavailable since Sony shut the PSN down on 20th April following the hack that saw millions of user accounts compromised.

Personal data, including names, addresses and passwords were stolen. Sony is unsure whether user credit card details were also stolen.

Again, it explains that a select number have participated In internal testing and that "matchmaking" only will come back "in a few days"

Wow it is now 8:15pm eastern us time and not a single update. I understand they may not have an update but don't update us on tuesday saying it should be on in at least a few days, and then not even say a word when the few days is up. At this point it has nothing to do with getting back online, it's the simple fact they are treating us like fools.

I hope I'm wrong and there is some sort of word on it tonight.

I assume it would be North America first since I assume that's where the most users are...but then again it could be another less-populated region since they may want to bring it up slowly considering they might not be able to handle the sudden jump in users.
Or maybe us Aussies will get it first smaller network load means they can watch carefully to make sure the update systems work...

Even though I'm in the US I would much rather see it up somewhere else first. There's a couple reasons behind that.

Reason one is I'd like Sony to take it slow and make sure everything is perfect, that way there is a slimmer chance of failure, especially because all us Americans would overload in a quick minute, which brings me to reason two.

Reason two, let me start off by saying I love my country but we don't always need to have everything right when it comes out. Also because some(most) Americans would expect us to be first, because god forbid if someone else has something for a day. At this point I'd just like to here if it was up in Fiji. Anywhere would be great. Even then I'd want proof, I don't believe anything anymore. I never noticed but rumors are eveywhere and spread quickly among the gaming community.

GOOD NEWS

It may be a rumor but it sounds legit.

The PSN has been down for nearly an entire month and a lot of gamers, including me, are getting bored with playing through their back catalogue of single-player games. According to rumors, the PSN may start restoring some of its functionality soon.
A few members of the NeoGAF forum, who claim to work with video game developers, have posted that some PSN services were back up. User BY2K claimed,
PSN was working at my work today, we could play co-op. (Not saying what game, I can?t anyway.)*Everybody was clueless but, somehow it was working.

Another member went on,
Okay, so this was mentioned in the old thread by a QA tester and since then I have had other developers confirm to me that this is the case. The internal PSN developer network is online again, at least it seems for some, although things are still a bit shaky at the moment such as lack of new account sign up.*Looks like the full network, at least the online play/account part of it, will be back soon.

One of the NeoGAF moderators, Kagari, has reported that several developers have posted on the forums that the PSN was up and working for them.*In addition to the postings on NeoGAF, the official PlayStationNL Twitter account has confirmed that select groups are testing the PSN.

For what I hear, Japan, not only because of the obvious things, but allegedly because it has less people, thus more suitable for "testing", meaning something goes wrong, not as many people affected.

Rumor, and even if not:
A - Its the dev's PSN.
2. The PSN is still not up yet, so they may be fixing that.

We expect the system to be back up soon. (unspecified.)

Now, sure, its not official, but would you react any different if it was?

Yup, its expected teh smaller regions to get it first.

That kinda has been going on for like a week actually.
(The testing.)

So who knows now, they keep saying its gonna be up every time anything changes, so I wouldn't treat it better than a rumor for now.

I know there is no point posting this as basically no one will see it especially anyone from Sony. I mean, I've only read about 3 replies to Sony's announcement myself in this thread hehe. I did read the announcement itself however.

I feel for Sony I really do, for being hacked, I know it's a huge pain in the ***. I've bought a lot of games through your network and I never got an email warning me you'd been hacked, even though you send me advert emails all the time with special offers and new games and etc, yet you never sent me a warning that my credit card was hacked! So when I finally found out some weeks after it had already happened, I immediately chopped up my credit card and ordered a new one, so the one on your network now is invalid anyway so it's 'safe' now. I wish I could have received an email off you guys to warn me.

Anyway, what I wanted to say was, in the small chance miracle someone at Sony sees this who counts (I've more chance of winning the Lotto frankly); I totally sympathise that you got hacked, it was annoying and costly for you, and it was annoying to me too and potentially costly if someone used my credit card before I deleted it, I mean they already have enough info on me now to order a new credit card under my name I guess, so we're still all in danger from this hack I guess :-(

But, JUST to make sure it's not something you're factoring into your thinking process when you try to work out why this hack happened, you do realise it was almost certainly an attack to punish you for trying to put a kid in jail for cracking the PS3 so people can unlock it to run homebrew apps on it. And then this ridiculous and rude and insane effort you're doing now to chase people who downloaded the code off the sites where the crack was put for download. You made a lot of enemies by doing that and then you got some pay back, it cost me millions now much more than you'd have lost from this kid hacker, I mean that loss would have been minimal. I know you are worried about people downloading games due to his crack, but do you not understand that almost everyone who downloads a game most likely wouldn't have paid for it if they had to pay for it, so nothing is 'lost' as such. And the amount you lost in this hack in lost revenue and the rest of it, must surly far exceed all of that now? I downloaded the crack myself btw.

Anyway good luck getting the network back up and running again. Hope it doesn't take too much longer, there is a game I want to buy ASAP! :-)

Thanks for listening (if you read this).

Tamzin.

Which is exactly what I was getting at in that second sentence...

I agree with some of you in that I would not like to see it come up first in NA only because it could ultimately result in another, longer downtime. If they put it up more steadily at first in a smaller region, it's more likely that the new servers will be able to handle it. However, it's been a long time already and my PS3 Slim finally got it's disc drive broken like every Slim supposedly gets at some point in its lifetime so they might as well do it perfectly and get it right the first time.

Anyone else given up? They said they were working around the clock, but if that were true, we would at least have something. My guess is they take weekends off, and evenings. They are NOT working as hard as possible and aren't even trying to make it speedy. They are just saying things like "soon" because if they say a long stretch, people will be mad.

I'm not some idiot that is ignorant to the fact that building these systems is tough. However, you sympathetics are forgetting that it was their inadequate system that caused this to begin with. I'm not supporting the hackers, but Sony really did tick them off. I am pretty mad about removal of features as well.

I'm losing hope that Sony is competent enough to deal with the situation. My guess is that in a few days/weeks, Sony will announce that the new system isn't secure enough and they have to start over again. My words mean nothing....

Yes, I'm getting to the point where I am losing hope that the network will be up anytime in the near future. Eventually, Sony will get the network back up, I am fully confident in that. After all, It is far less expensive to get it working again than the alternative would be. It has been such a long time since I've played something online that I am getting used to single player games now, lol. Plus, playing offline means one doesn't have to worry about their security, which is a comforting thought after this.

I've actually reformatted my computer and started getting into games on there. I'm getting used to it also, with the lack of updates from Sony I've given up hope. It's still quite shocking to me that they give us so little updates. We are the reason why Sony is who they are, we've stuck with them through all this and they are acting like they don't give a ****. So ya my hope is out the window on it's way straight to Sony to give them a nice slap in the face.

I called them twice a few years back about an issue I was having, it was total waste of time, I knew more about the problem then they did. So ya you are right they know nothing. They probably have a call center thousands of miles away, if they knew anything we would have a ton more leaks.

Sony Computer Entertainment introduces increased security measures ahead of PSN service restoration.

Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) and Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI, the company) will today begin a phased restoration by region of PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. The phased restoration will be on a country by country basis beginning in the Americas, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East.

The first phase of restored services for North America and Europe will include:

* Sign-in for PlayStation Network and Qriocity services, including the resetting of passwords.
* Restoration of online gameplay across PlayStation 3 and PSP.
* Playback rental video content, if within rental period, of PlayStation Store Video Store on PS3, PSP and Media Go.
* Q Music Unlimited, for current subscribers, on PS3 and PC.
* Access to third party services such as VidZone and MUBI.
* 'Friends' category on PS3, including Friends List, Chat Functionality, Trophy Comparison, etc.
* PlayStation Home.

Increased Security Measures

As the result of a criminal cyber attack on the company's data centre located in San Diego, California, USA, SNEI shut down the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services on 20 April 2011, in order for the company to undergo an investigation and make enhancements to the overall security of the network infrastructure.

Working closely with several respected outside security firms, the company has implemented new and additional security measures that strengthen safeguards against unauthorized activity, and provide consumers with greater protection of their personal information.

The company has made considerable enhancements to the data security, including updating and adding advanced security technologies, additional software monitoring and penetration and vulnerability testing, and increased levels of encryption and additional firewalls.

The company also added a variety of other measures to the network infrastructure including an early warning system for unusual activity patterns that could signal an attempt to compromise the network.

"I'd like to send my sincere regret for the inconvenience this incident has caused you, and want to thank you all for the kind patience you've shown as we worked through the restoration process," said Kazuo Hirai, Executive Deputy President, Sony Corporation.

"I can't thank you enough for your patience and support during this time. We know even the most loyal customers have been frustrated by this process and are anxious to use their Sony products and services again. We are taking aggressive action at all levels to address the concerns that were raised by this incident, and are making consumer data protection a full time, company-wide commitment."

"During the past 18 months, we've seen a dramatic rise in the volume of cyber attacks, their sophistication and their impact on businesses. Thwarting cyber-crime requires an evolutionary approach to security that is well integrated, reduces risk exposure and improves efficiencies," said Francis deSouza, senior vice president, Enterprise Security Group, Symantec. "Today's cyber crime attacks are proving to be more covert, more targeted and better organized than those we've seen in years past. In working with Sony on the move of their data centre, it's clear they're implementing measures to reduce security risks moving forward."

As an additional measure, Fumiaki Sakai, president of Sony Global Solutions Inc. (SGS), has been appointed acting Chief Information Security Officer of SNEI. In addition to his current role at SGS, Mr Sakai, in his role at SNEI, will work to further reinforce overall information security across the company's network infrastructure.

Mr Sakai will lead the recruiting effort in finding a new and permanent CISO for SNEI. As CISO, Mr. Sakai will report to Tim Schaaff, president, SNEI, as well as to Mr Shinji Hasejima, CIO, Sony Corporation.

"While we understand the importance of getting our services back online, we did not rush to do so at the expense of extensively and aggressively testing our enhanced security measures. Our consumers' safety remains our number one priority," Hirai continued. "We want to assure our customers that their personal information is being protected with some of the best security technologies available today, so that everyone can feel comfortable enjoying all that PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have to offer."

The restoration of the services across the Americas, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East are beginning, and consumers will be able to enjoy some of the online functionality provided by both the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. The company expects to have the services fully restored by the end of May 2011.

The company will be offering customers a "Welcome Back" package of services and premium content to all registered PlayStation Network and Qriocity account services.

The details of this program will be available at eu.playstation.com/welcomeback shortly.

Before you start using PlayStation Network again...

In restoring PSN, we have introduced a safety measure which means you will need to update your PlayStation Network account password before you can start using PSN again.

If you've got a PlayStation 3, you can do this by updating to system software version 3.61 and then signing in to PlayStation Network from the XMB? (XrossMediaBar) Menu. Find out more at eu.playstation.com/ps3/support/system-software.

Otherwise, you can change your password by visiting https://store.playstation.com/login.gvm on your PC. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes and if you'd like more help you can follow the step by step guide at eu.playstation.com/psppsn.

Please contact us at uk.playstation.com/psnoutage should you have any additional questions. For more information about the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services intrusion and restoration, keep an eye on PlayStation.Blog at blog.eu.playstation.com, twitter.com/PlayStationEU and eu.playstation.com for the latest updates.

Great looks like the firmware is out, for me il check in the morning, it is 1am here, god I hope it does not brick the thing otherwise the new slogan would be

http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTqvGGJ8Hg3z0Jwgbos2eKXkfDW0w6y7 14qpKcYcgUX02mUSowJ

This from the ps blog: PS3 System Software Update (http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2011/05/15/ps3-system-software-update/)

We have been working on a new PS3 system software update that requires all PSN users to change their password once PlayStation Network is restored. The update (v3.61) is mandatory and is available now.
If using a PS3, your password can only be changed on your own PS3 (or a PS3 on which your PSN account was activated), as an added layer of security. If you have never downloaded any content using your account on the system, an email will be sent to the registered sign-in ID (email address) associated with your account when you first attempt to sign-in to PSN. This e-mail will contain a link that will enable you to change your password. In this email, click on the link and follow the instructions to change your password. Once you have changed your password you can sign-in to your account using your new password.
We strongly recommend that all PSN account holders with PS3s update their systems to prepare for when PlayStation Network is back online. The release of this update is a critical step as we work to make PlayStation Network significantly more secure. Thank you for your continued support and patience.

Soon I can finally get back to lbp2 after 3 weeks of not playing, the number of potential levels must be huge, hopefully media molecules servers haven't gone rusty

For anyone in the US look at this page now. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/05/14/play-on-–-psn-restoration-begins-now/ (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/05/14/play-on-%E2%80%93-psn-restoration-begins-now/)

If your state is illuminated, then the PSN is on for you. I believe all the states will have access by tomorrow night.

... sniped.

Here's the vid, in case anyone wanted to see it.

Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.
Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated and change your password, both of which are required to get online.

Go to blog for map.

Im a little confused it says change our password now but it won't let me. Hmm guess il check back in a bit. Looks like I'm playing some co op portal 2 and lbp tonight.

I wonder what else is being installed with this update......
It's Mandatory and it's an update to require us to change our passwords?

Watched the video and noticed it mention "return of third party services such as Netflix, Hulu...." I've been able to use Netfilx the entire time PSN has been down on my PS3. Has anyone else been able to continue to use Netflix since PSN went down?

So good news it finally let me ALMOST log in. It wouldnt at first. I kept seeing the maintenance error. But then I went into the settings and changed my password for the ps3 itself not the online part. After I did that I tried to log in and it prompted me to change my password. I then saw a different screen that say something about maintenance. So it's almost there. I'm not sure if changing my 4 digit ps3 password did anything but it did start working after that.2011-05-15 01:48:00

Yes,
"You must log in to continue using PSN blah blah.."
"Password is invalid, you must change your password."

*Click change*

"P.S.N is currently undergoing maintenance."

At least progress.

I guess this is the thread to be in at the moment... I'm in Australia and have access to the update, but I doubt that I'll be able to get on line yet... not to mention this is probably my 3rd PS3 since launch and second PSP, so I'm expecting to jump through some hoops still.2011-05-15 02:07:00

The map of states dosen't show who got it up first and the password can't really change it much it still say maintenance.2011-05-15 02:13:00

They have to manually edit the map once power is restored to a state.
It states that in the paragraph above it.

{EDIT}

Apparently, according to a member here,
PSN is now up in Florida.
(Not sure if entire Florida or select regions.)
