But in the end, this video is a great example as to why originality will triumph over re-creations in Little Big Planet 2.

Yeah that's true. I noticed that in the reviews of Raphael's lvls people kept saying that they should've hired him already. Then I started thinking....why HADN'T they hired him? Then I thought that even though his lvls are really awesome replicas. They are, after all, replicas. Not original, doesn't matter how exact they make it (actually doesn't that make it less original? O.o) So....originality is always a win

CC has been ill recently. I'm not sure if a mod can add you to it.

Gevurah, that is possibly the coolest thing ever!

Awrsum work.

Well, in Fist of the North Star (which this is "loosely" based off of), the enemies heads to explode after getting punched by Kenshiro, the main character. =P

Glad y'all like it so far. I'll try to get the short level out by next week before I head to England for vacation for a couple weeks. ^^

To be fair, there are a lot of interesting concepts in the beta that are more about pushing the tech in great ways, than nailing a fun play mechanic. Early days though, eh.

Oh, I completely agree. These tech demos are spectacular and I have no doubt that creators will find ways to merge the tech with fun game play overtime.

I intend to stick with the normal platformers with all sorts of crazyness but I really love what others make in the beta.

Same here. I'm blown away by the stuff people are making, but I'll probably keep it simple in my own creations.

Here's my contribution to beta videos. This is of my husband's level. We didn't really do anything too complex, because we heard you couldn't keep your beta levels. Still, I hope you will enjoy it.

A little bit of backstory: Hero Adventure is a LBP 1 level by doodlebats that we decided to 'reimagine.'

Thanks man. It's meant to be really easy to get into as the sequence of buttons you need to press isn't overly complex. Square for normals and triangle at different times of the normal strings to activate those special moves. Everything can be canceled with the grab so you can continue your combo spree even after you've depleted a zombie's or shark's health. As we all tend to have some mild case of ADD when playing levels in LBP, it was important to make it easy to get into. Although as you can see, pulling off high combo strings does take a little effort on the players part. =)

As for the rocks, it'll be more apparent as to how they'll be used when I finish the level. Some things in the scenery might need to be manipulated to open a gate or large bosses might not be affected by your punches, so...

Aw, thanks guys. The three of us are out of our minds. Most of the time it's just Vmethos and my husband making fun of me in the videos. You should have seen what ended up on the cutting room floor. There was at least a solid minute of them telling me how I'm dumb for not being a boy and being able to enjoy gran turismo. 2010-12-09 01:58:00

Thanks man! The logic for the moves wasn't that hard, but its combining it all together so that it's seamless and works 100% of the time and cancels properly is what gets a little confusing sometimes with all the crazy wiring going on.

I've been working on it on and off for about less than a month now, but that's only because work and life have been pretty busy lately. As much as I'd like to, I can't stay cooped up in the house all day playing LBP2. People to meet and stuff to drink! xD

In all honesty, I probably would've dropped in a lot more if I had more time to spend since it only takes up about 50% of the thermo, but since I'm headed to the UK for vacation tomorrow, I decided to just throw it all in and publish it.

Hey gevurah, are you gonna add more playable characters to this one too?

If so, and if you make a mage, I'd suggest adding move that picked him an enemy, moved him out a few layers (not exactly sure what layers you're playing in right now, so i can't exactly say how many layers) and then slammed them down. Visually, it would look pretty cool, especially since that would be just about the only thing that could exist outside the normal playing layer.

Or, even better, a move that picked up everyone in the surrounding area and did the same thing.

Though a thought

Nah, this is just a one-man army for this particular level. I do have stuff similar to what you're mentioning for Craft Earth Crusaders though.

I wondering if you guys who make great LBP music, do you have a musical background,
like do you play instruments, or do you know how to read music?

I present to you...the power of the MUSIC SEQUENCER!
Keep in mind, I have almost no musical ability (although I did play the sax back in the day), so this is coming from someone with a completely clean slate.
I think it's pretty impressive for just messing around!

Hmm...well for music on LBP, I just kinda..hear music in my head. Like...I just hear all kinds of sounds and melodies and I just jot down what I hear. It's kinda hard to explain but um...think of it this way...

You know how those who have schizophrenia can sometimes hear voices in their heads? Well I'm basically schizophrenic except I hear music in my head. Like I have tubas and violins and trumpets all kinda of stuff up there lol. Sometimes when I see something, like a level or a work of art or a movie, the volume in my head gets REALLY loud and repeats over and over again like a broken record...Only when I write it down and here it with my own ears does the noise in my head calm down...eh...well that's just me.

In other words, when I get inspired by something I get obsessed.

But I think the most important thing to have in music is emotion. Music is just noise without "feeling" or "meaning".

I used to play in a band in Jr. high, but I sucked with the trumpet. Just didn't have the lungs for it. Picked up a piano about three years ago, haven't played another instrument since. I can read music, but I have a hard time remembering other composers work. Like I tried to learn to Zanarkand on piano, and it took me 3 weeks to master it! I can play my own songs pretty well though. No matter how complex the song is, I find I can play any part of it. Strange but, eh...

I am the same way. I hate it when I have an amazing orchestra of music playing in my head, but than I have to listen to someone speak or focus on something else. Usually I can get it back, but I only usually hear it again during my dreams. And yes the music can get VERY loud, like it's enveloping you. I feel like I am going t pass out whenever that happens...

And did you mean, music is noise WITH emotion and meaning?

Lbp2 seems to be very smooth when materials move side by side/against each other... Is that something new to Lbp2 or is it done with a material tweaker? Enabling a material to act like glass?

It is one thing that frustrated me with lbp when building set pieces and contraptions; they would suffer from materials intermittently sticking and jamming.

Fascinating seeing all the new features coming our way... I have a feeling I/we will be wasting a lot of time in front of my PS3 come January... and spending a lot of money on new DLC "grin

Yes, I always found this a frustration too. And yes, in my case at least, I have utilized a material tweaker on many of my moving parts to change the friction to 0%. The one problem with this is if Sackboy will ever need to walk on that surface, it does behave like glass (perhaps even worse, I've not bench-marked it). I love all the new tools and material options available to us now. As another example, I used almost no DM (or even the new LM) in my new level. I merely added an object anti-gravity tweaker and set the Anti-Gravity to 100% and the Dampening to 100%. Works a treat!

Ha that would be a great idea and you could use the goo/slime material to make slimer! When he goes through a wall or something he could just burst into goo!
And Sack-Jake for your Noir City style idea there seems to be a really cool x-ray effect in the new trailer 'Endless Fun' about 1 minute in for the 'Flip it' sketch that could go really well with that level

Wow, Crypt of Amon'Rohar is one of the most creative platformer levels I've seen. Annoying music choice, though.2011-01-01 06:37:00

I didn't get into the beta until mid December, but here are some vids of the levels I have been having fun creating - I can't record game audio so audio in the videos is not actual.

I just got a PVR today and I'm so excited! I recorded a small video of a level just for the occasion.

Music - Neon Dreams by Festerd_Jester

Can't wait for the full release to come. I'm planning to have component cables by then, so the vids will be in HD. It's so sad the beta's ending Monday though.

Hey guys, just recently getting back into LBP.

Been searching around, trying to catch up on all of the new features in LBP2.

I was just wondering if somebody could clear this up for me?

This is awesome...

hi.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fk6m1-YFGIE

Can anybody tell me if something like this can be 'recorded' to appear like that in a level? Or was this just recorded in 'real time' for video/YouTube purposes?

I don't have a PS3 mic, but wouldn't hesitate to buy one if I can record my own actions/audio, to appear as a cutscene in a level.

Thanks.

That has been recorded through the game. LBP2' upgraded magic mouths can be set to play a recording of your own voice.2011-01-08 16:19:00

Thanks for the reply!

I'm still quite unsure of something though... Does this mean that the sackboy would be sitting there, with his mouth in sync to the audio, if somebody else was to play the level? (As in, that news broadcast being a cutscene, doing the same actions with his arms, too)

Or am I asking too much? I'm not all that clued up on the new features or these 'sackbots', at the mo!

Thanks.

Edit: Sorry, I should have been clearer, so I'll just make a simple example:

If I created that 'news broadcast', Could I 'insert' that into one of my levels, like on a TV screen, that my sackboy was watching in his home? Therefore, that other sackboy was still on the TV, speaking in sync with the audio, and moving his arms, as he does.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks.

Yes, of course you can! That's why it's so interesting. Record your lines, make your Sackbot and record the actions, and then everything can be saved to be displayed (as cutscene, or otherwise).

AWESOME. I've been trying to make something similar to that first mech for quite awhile now. You've pulled it off perfectly!
Also, cool Big Daddy costume. Think you can post a screenshot of it?

No problem! Though due to some strange bug the hands fly up to that position when you take the picture even though there is a battery plugged into R1 causing him to hold onto the gun elsewhere:

I was teaming up with leading director Gustof von Musterhausen (in association with the Kasak film committee) to document this epic true story. We decided to wait for LBP2 to be released for the advanced camera software.

When birds at the local village of Sparsholt start mysteriously disappearing it's up to James Pond to investigate. This full feature length film will have you laughing, crying and behind the sofa in fear.

Prepare for mystery, adventure, your annual dose of shooting scenes and a lot of angry birds!

Here's a preview of 'Zombird Apocalypse'.

I doubt many people will have more beta levels to show, so to (probably) finish things off, Chimpanzee has put together a compilation of all the finalists from the three Contraption Challenges that were held during the beta. Enjoy!
