I don't have the beta, but I watched a lot of trailers and interviews about the games, and one of the videos had a scene of a sidescroller and a top-down racer. LBP1 has the tools given where it is possible to make fps its possible not probable...LBP Karting is good for making creative tracks not games. So think about it..what kind of platformer would it be like if forward is r2 and L2 is backward and no 3d rotation. LBP1=Platform for making games in 2D LBP2=Platforming for making all games (not saying they are of good quality in 3D) LBP Karting=A racer for making track and open world fields in a car (I think at max you can prob. make a midnight club or NFS game with missions and different cars and stuff. I don't even remember the emails for my alt accounts.  I signed up with them though. @Nick, I don't think it based on just that because I signed up with three accounts and I have every game. | Not gonna lie, it'll take me a while to get used to working in a 3D environment. I can see where TinyMo is coming from. I was getting really good at LBP2's create mode.. and now I feel like a noob all over again in this beta. But can't give any specifics for obvious reasons. @Zero I don't think PS Plus will make it any easier to get a code. Or is the beta essentially always the same and we report anything we can find? LBP Karting is about 4 months away maybe, so don't go off saying it's going to turn out to be a bad game. Crash Bandicoot was a complete copy off every Nintendo platformer, yet it still turned out fun, amazing, and set a new standard for game development. | I don't think it's as bad as some of you are saying. The 'story' mode gameplay is pretty much perfect. Same with the graphics. Betas are typically, if not always updated many times in a short period of time (the length of the Beta) to fix bugs. The updates produce more bugs which causes a cycle until the Beta is over. | ...its a kart racer with creating elements. It's really not. You guys also need to remember, it's only in beta. If you've seen many games in beta, they're usually gutted and underwhelming. If you are playing to the last minute you get warnings like "this content will expire in 30 minutes" and then kicked back to the XMB when time is up. If it's time limited would setting the system clock back help? I'm fairly sure theres 2 clocks in the PS3 the XMB one you can alter and another one you can't access. Also, the amount of points you gain for finishing first, second or third is tweakable, to make point bubble wins more likely. | Well, here are my thoughts on LBP karting from what Ive seen in the beta. Bear in mind, this post is just about all negative. It is due a little to the fact that Im not in the mood to have to learn another LBP creator all over again, something I have spent countless hours doing in the actual LBP games, not this MNR 2 game that someone decided if they added sackboy and a few LBP stickers, they could call it LittleBigPlanet. I was very excited to play the creation aspect of LBPK, because it is 3D. It turned out to be a complete disaster; it's not very friendly to returning LBPers, as well as having tons of BIG problems which made me rage. For starters, many of the controls are different and unnecessarily so, such as the undo and redo buttons, as well as making a material thicker and thinner. I already fixed this in my head, to make it as close as possible to how it is in real LBP games, however that was a while ago and I forgot all the buttons. Ungluing and copying an object are both menu based now too, while their normal buttons could easily have been used. Right now, I should make up a title for something so that I can easily address it. In your popit, in your materials section, you have all your materials. When you click on one and choose a shape, you then have a "ghost" of that material that you can use to place the material or delete other materials with. I will refer to this "ghost" material puter-downer as "Clark" in my below paragraph to make things easier for myself, and you. Ok, so when you take out Clark, and you place Clark's material down, whatever it is, it is now a physical object in the game, obviously. However, if you move Clark over and place him down again, even if the material you placed is not connected to the first one, and you back out of popit and grab one of the materials you just placed down, if you try and move one you will move all of them. Even if they are not connected in any way shape or form, you still move all of them. The only way I found that fixes this is going into the menu and selecting "make unique" or something like that. How about, if I place down a material, move over, and place another one, you dont assume its supposed to be the same object? In somewhat addition to this, if you place down a material, then back out of popit, copy it(with the menu button of course,), and try and place it in the material you just made and copied, even if it is the exact same precise dimensions, the materials still don’t combine, and wherever the materials overlap(the spots where they should combine into one material), there is a glitchy texture instead because theres two of them inside eachother. Wtf? Another issue with it is, I think, the most annoying one out of all of them. You have the normal x and y planes from good ol' LBP. However, you have the Z plane as well. This Z plane is always a visible grid(it doesnt always act like one unless you make it, which is fantastic because the grid is awful too), and you can move this grid around anywhere. I should say, you can move the Z plane anywhere. Say you want a cylindrical tower facing upwards, you would turn the Z planet on its side, and make the material thicker. Basically, all the material shapes in your popit in the other LBP games, thats how they come out in default in LBPK, and if you want them to be a tower, or just face upwards, you have to turn them on their side, and in doing so the Z plane turns as well. So, think about turning all those shapes onto their side, and now the grid is flat. WELL, if you place down a material, and you move that Z plane grid in or out from its current position(not along it; like if its flat, you can move things sideways and forwards and stuff, and if its tall, you can move things up or down), but if you move the Z plane in or out, any material you placeed down moves with it. So say you have a disc, and you want to make multiple discs on top of each other. The Z plane would have to be above or below the disc. Well if you place one disc, and you try and raise or lower Clark(remember him?) to place another disc, the Z planet grid will have to move too, and the one disc you placed will move with the grid. This is true with any material. The only solve I found was to back out of popit completely and get the material out again and reorient it, then place each one one at a time on top of each other. It may not sound like much, but this got very annoying, I cannot convey my irritation without losing your interest, which is probably already lost anyway, you probably went looking for a TL;DR(there is one). Oh boy, the grid and angle snap. Two extremely useful tools, ruined. Ill start with the grid, its issue is simple. The grid changes. You can keep the settings the EXACT SAME WAY, and if you place down a cube and back out of popit, move around a bit, open popit, and take out the cube again, the same cube as before because its dimensions weren’t changed, I found that occasionally it would be off a little bit if I tried to get it inside the other cube, and no matter where I moved it it would still not be on the same grid as the other one. Angle snap. In LBP2, if you go into the start menu and change the angle snap to a certain degree, the game already has it programmed as to where the set angles are. So set it to 90, and if youre holding something and turn that something, you can only move it to 4 different directions; up, down, left, and right. If you set it to 45, you can move it in 8 directions; the same as 90, plus the angles in between. Dead useful. BUT! And a big but. In LBP Karting, if you take out an object, and rotate it just a little bit, its now not on any particular angle. Well, we’ll just say its on a 10 degree angle. Then if you go and turn on an angle snap, and set it to, say, 90, the game automatically makes the current position of the object, at its 10 degree angle, its default. So if you turn it once, it wont face up like it should; itll go to a 100 degree angle. Then 190, then 280, Then back to 10. I cannot express how many times in LBP I turn an object, expecting an angle snap to be on and its not, and so I go into the menu, turn it on, and just rotate the object once and its oriented perfectly. And then, many times in LBPK, I turned an object expecting an angle snap and there wasn’t, and RAGING because I had to delete the object, turn on angle snap, then get the object out again. Urgh! Also, THERES NO CORNER EDITER, OOOOHHHH MY GERRRRRRRRRRRDWTF These are most of the issues I found with creating in LBPK in just a few hours. I have not a clue in the world how anyone managed to make that cosmos track that was found in the story levels of the beta, and Im forced to believe that it was designed with a computer, something that I havent believed about a single LBP level since that one bunker one with all the perfectly synchronized pistons. All I know is that I will most definitely never pay money for this game. For those wondering, I did watch a bunch of tutorials, but none of the ones focused on the stuff I addressed addressed my problems. TL;DR: Objects not touching automatically attach themselves. Z plane is horrendously broken and almost unusable. Copying and ungluing are unnecessarily menu based. Controls are switched around and messed up. Separate materials cannot be combined, even if they are the exact same dimensions. Grid and angle snap are both almost useless. | I gotta say, even though I'm in the BETA, that just about summed it all up. The game's twitchy, the controls are screwed up, and create mode's crap. It's near impossible to work with. Playing levels works out ok, but that isn't what I'm looking for. Not the only thing, at least. Hopefully though, with all the bugs we've reported and suggestions we've complained about, the final product will be more like LBP, as it should be. | I'm on the fence about this, but i'll post my honest opinion about my experience with the beta: I enjoyed it a lot, and this is coming from a huge fan of Mario Kart and MNR. It has the fast paced action of Mario Kart with the twists and "complexity" of MNR. I toyed around with the creation tools a small bit and made a little private training course for myself (barebone: no decoration, just a simple track) in around 10 minutes by just fooling around. This track making process is a lot like MNR which is simple to get into, but difficult to master. Now onto other things: This game has seemed to overcome MNR's one "fatal flaw"..LOADING TIMES! I started up the beta and in a few minutes I was in the pod. Also when I started a race, it took a few seconds to load the level, which is drastically shorter than MNR's load screens. Controls wise, I may just be really good at adapting to different control schemes and settings from playing so many different games in one sitting, but I found the controls pretty nice, though I do agree that they do need to be tightened up, but this is a beta, so I assume by December (or January), they will have that under control. The constant drifting to maintain speed though is pretty...irksome though, because sometimes, it makes me crash rather than help so most of the time, if I am on a straight portion of a map, I just drive straight One thing though that I am worried about in this game: lobbies. If you want a successful racing game that focuses on online play as a major factor, then you need some organized system to play with people. Kind of like MNR's lobby system, the host picks a level and everyone plays it, and afterwards everyone rates it, and then the cycle continues; however the question is how would they implement something like that in LBPK...especially with LBP's system of multiplayer being through invites and playing with people who are currently playing the level, it would make more people just play the higher rated levels and not give the lower rated levels any chances of being played by groups of people...
