| Playing FF6 at the mo. Enjoying it though getting a little frustrated with it, the same thing that happens me with every JRPG. We'll see how long I last. Also been playing some Lumines (awesome game!) and I've started hard mode of Batman: Arkham Asylum... going for platinum though the challenge rooms... especially the predator challenge rooms are pretty difficult. Also bought RE5 and R&C:ToD for really cheap recently... probably gonna be added to the backlog though... I'll have GOW3 by next week and I've pre-ordered the GOW: Collection. Only ?18 or €23.50 on play.com at the minute . Releases on the 30th. | Some God of War 3... it's a little too violent for my mood at the moment though... I might leave it a while until I'm in a more bloodthirsty mood . Epic start... though story is a bit weak... ah it was never going to be as good as 1. Played the Peace Walker demo... officially excited for this game. Fulton system means no more dragging enemies which automatically makes it 100 times better than Portable Ops. New control system is great... and gotta say, a really REALLY good demo. Died in the 3rd mission and haven't retried it yet but an hour long demo is always good. Comicbook cut-scenes aren't quite as bad as I was expecting, they're actually quite dramatic and well done. And there are a few game engine cut-scenes in there which is appreciated it. Also love the fact that it seems to be a linear storyline without any gathering supplies missions etc like Portable Ops... I guess it was just a different kind of game. First impressions seem to be that this really is a proper MGS game... which is excellent!!! Can't wait! Played some Lumines the other day and tripled my previous score... was very exciting. Very very addictive! Those times when you're just about to lose and then a special block takes away like 20 blocks is awesome! Played Age of Zombies. Really good mini, very fun, and just challenging enough. | Finished MGS: Portable Ops last night... it's a... good game. Not excellent by any means, the story is good enough but not brilliant and loses some of its impact through the use of the comic book cut-scenes. Not that they can't be good, there was one near the end that was really really good, but most of them were only ok. The core gameplay is where the game shines and it is a lot of fun. The meta-game however, not so much, with collecting recruits, all of whom have pretty much the same stats, becoming quite boring. The bosses are all pretty much the same and quite annoying and boring to fight. I have to say RAZA was quite good though, definitely the best boss in the game. Overall I'm glad to have finished the game, if only for the MGS factor and filling in some background story but have no intention of playing it again. Nice to be up to date with Big Boss's story pre-Peace Walker. I think overall based on how good a game it is and not how good a PSP game it is, I'd give it a 7/10. Not a bad game by any means. | Playing GTA: Chinatown Wars at the moment. It's so much fun! Way better than GTA 4... this is how a GTA game should be. Doesn't take too long to get anywhere, the wanted system is fun and not too annoying. The drug dealing system as excellent and very addictive, the minigames are great and part of the main game which keeps the game interesting and involving, they maintain your attention and interest. Story is very good with good characters and a strong wise-cracking protagonist. And since there are no voices you don't have to listen to any crap from ones that annoy you. | Sorry for the double post... Finished 3 games for the first time today .Firstly Chinatown Wars. Very good game, took me 8:40 to get through the game, and that's with a decent amount of drug dealing. I usually get sick of GTA games so it was the perfect length for me. Secondly, N+ on PSP. Hard game, extremely satisfying when I finally beat it though. I'd really recommend it. Gold Ninja FTW! And lastly, Super Mario Land on the gameboy. I don't know how many times I've played the game, 100s probably from childhood to now and I beat it for the first time today. Crazy... it's not even that hard! Or long, the last level is 4-3. | Castlevania Aria of Sorrow on GBA. The most completely unsatisfying ending to a game ever! Though I think I'm probably not properly finished it yet... there seems to be a 2nd end boss and you probably need 100% completion to finish it. On 93.7% at the minute. Hate the last few % of these games but the completionist in me won't let me quit. Still this is one of the first times I've played a game where an utterly utterly terrible story and awful dialogue has seemed like such a missed opportunity. I mean I finished the game (though not completely, almost there) and it was just such a let down... full of meh. And this is supposed to be one of the best GBA games. Don't think I'll be bothered playing the other two GBA CV games. I mean seriously, you really really don't get out as much as you put into this game. Ugh. Music isn't that good either. Give me Dracula X Chronicles any day. Oh and not having a clue where you're supposed to go and just looking at the map and trying to find any door you haven't gone through and explored yet... ********! Some more direction would have improved this game so much! | Finished the proper ending of Aria of Sorrow... it was actually kinda great! So I'm eating my previous post right now... nom nom nom... Heh anyway, one thing I hated about it was that if you didn't have 3 specific souls equipped when you beat the regular boss then you got the crap ending. How anyone could have figured that out without a guide is beyond me. The proper ending was very good though. The penultimate boss was fun and the final boss was also very good. Very weird and random... very appropriate for "chaos". Finished it with 99.5%... don't think I'm bothered going for 100%. I've finished a good few metroidvania style games by now, Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission, Aria of Sorrow... and that's about it actually. Well 2 of nifflas games as well. One thing I find about them is that there's a certain amount of dissatisfaction involved when you finished them, even if it's with 100%. I'm not sure what it is exactly, they're well made games and they keep you interested while you're playing them... but I far rather Dracula X Chronicles to the metroidvania style. I think it might be the enemy design. In Dracula X Chronicles the enemies were quite challenging and while some enemies on Aria of Sorrow are difficult, you generally don't really have to learn patterns... or the patterns are very simple. And after a while, because you have so much cash and you can buy as many potions as you want, getting hit has no real consequence. You can just stand there getting your *** kicked and as long as you keep swinging your sword you'll take them down. Now I understand that the metroidvania style creates quite big games, they take a while to complete even if you don't die much and so creating enough different enemies is a challenge in it's own right and if they were all difficult, the game would probably become too frustrating. | Let me see... Well I finished MGS: Peace Walker, great game, the Extra Ops tank and helicopter battles are annoying as hell though. Got sick of them and stopped playing. Still was really enjoyable while it lasted. Spent about 45 hours on it I think... maybe a little less. Bought Joe Danger, it's pretty fun, worth 10 euro I'd say not quite worth 13. Finally finished God of War 3, yeah epic game and did way more character development than I was expecting. Might even be my favourite God of War. Also loved the way you revisited areas like the three judges after you got other weapons and abilities. Also I thought the orange and black cut-scenes were absolutely fantastic. Ending was slightly weak, just in the way it was done and not what actually happened. One thing I absolutely hated though was the fact that the costumes were exclusive to different deals and versions. Was never the case before with God of Wars and I hate it. Also started and platinumed God of War 1 and have almost platinumed God of War 2. They changed a few little bits in God of War 2 which I love, they have Gaia do a voice over of why Kratos goes to Typhon's Cavern. A small thing but something that really annoyed me about the story before. I really like the game now though I feel it isn't quite as cohesive as 1, but I guess the extra variety is a good thing. Also platinumed Burnout Paradise, God I love that game, considering getting the DLC, it's 20 euro for all of it (Island and all the cars etc.), seems like a good deal. I've got a whole load of top titles for PS3 that I've barely/never played, like RE5, Dead Space, Bioshock, Modnation Racers and Bayonetta, but nothing seems to satisfy like making my own levels on LBP or playing it with friends. I'm hopelessly addicted. In fact, since March 2008 only 3 games have captured my interest long enough to drag me away from LBP. Those were RDR, Just Cause 2 and Heavy Rain. | Haven't been on here in a while... I recently got a 360. Been playing my friend's games the last while. Played some Modern Warfare 2, Spec Ops is fun but not my kinda game otherwise, don't like shooters. Don't like Mass Effect 1 much, played it for a few hours and it kinda annoyed me so I stopped playing. The demo of 2 was quite fun though. Also played some Fable 2 which I really like and have just finished Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands... if you're a POP fan, BUY that game!!! It's fantastic! Way higher quality than I was expecting! And the combat isn't as bad as some of the reviews lead you to believe... it is quite button-mashy but I didn't actually dislike it at all. On PS3 I finally played through (and platinumed) Assassin's Creed 2. Absolutely incredible game. So much better than the first. Can't wait for Brotherhood. Also been playing a little Red Dead Redemption but keep losing interest... same with all Rockstar's games other than Chinatown Wars on PSP. Still it's definitely the best game Rockstar have made... I'm just not really a fan of their games. That's about all that comes to mind, there are probably a few others. | Wonder of wonders... I've actually been playing LBP!!! Haven't played in ages, decided to start workin through the spotlight levels... I have to say, the quality of some of them is astounding! Azure Palace is still remarkably good and fun. I've played a few out of the latest batch (50) and Perceptive Dream really sticks out. Was so much fun, absolutely loved it. I started LBPC: The Game but it froze in the first level (right at the part where the guy's talking about bomb levels... was weird, don't remember LBP freezing before... was a crash too had to power off my PS3 using the button on the console). Anyway also been playing Fallout 3. Have all the DLC now thanks to PSN+ . Pity all the DLC didn't stay free, was 3 of them last week and the other 2 this week. IMO all 5 should have stayed free this week. Earning EXP again now I have Broken Steel. However, been experiencing a lot of freezes, every few hours since I installed the DLC. Bit of a pain. Still love the game though.Played a little Super Street Fighter HD II Turbo... I think that's what it's called... courtesy of PSN+... fun and enemies have way better AI than the PSP game. Also played that Kula World PS1 game, nice little puzzle game, quite fun though the inability to zoom out the camera is annoying, can be difficult to tell exactly where to go and how far how are from another platform. Overall very happy with PSN+, couldn't say no to the Fallout DLC. 15 months for 50 euro. Fallout DLC was 50 euro in total (though I could got GOTY but that's still at least 20) and then Street Fighter was 15 I think and I bought Trine for 4 euro (4 euro discount... false economy I know, but still). So overall I've spent 50 euro and got 35-70 euro value out of it... and that's with 14 months of content still to go. So yeah... happy .Tried Super Meat Boy on the 360. Lots of fun! One of those games like N+ that you do some levels then pick it up again later and do a few more. Hoping to buy it ASAP. Also got some US MS points so bought a good few indie games, really like seeing the creativity you see in some of the games. I only buy the ones for 80 points though. Bargain! I feel if they all sold their games at 80 points they would sell a lot more. See Breath of Death VII. Sold 300,000 priced at $1. And I'm sure that zombie game sold more. Also bought Alan Wake for cheap enough, haven't played it yet though. Waiting until I'm in the mood, same as Castlevania (kinda annoyed I paid full price for it, won't be doing that again for a while). Tried the demo for Costume Quest, didn't like it. Humour was good, didn't like the gameplay. Also could have done with voices. Oh and the demo for Force Unleashed 2... one word... WOW! Hopefully the rest of the game will be as fun. My housemate's buying it so I'll probably just get it off him when he's done .Phew... that's about it... coulda been a blog!!! | Picked up DJ Hero 2 yesterday and loving it. There are some spectacular mixes ("Informer" by Snow + "ABC" Jackson 5 is one of my favorites) and the new freestyle sections really give you the freedom to make the mix your own. Started my second playthorugh of Heavy Rain MOVE Edition and curious to see how my different actions will affect the story vs 1st playthrough. Just picked up Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 today, will try it later on tonight. I have never even watched an episode of the anime but I downloaded the demo a couple of weeks back and was absolutely blown away by the visual style and the flow of combat. | I'm playing Fable III. The bad thing is that I got a glitch in Aurora where I fell down an endless hole. I had to restart the entire game! Lucky enough, not only did the Inquisitor (a sword you only got if you pre-ordered) do awesome, but the free DLC weapons did too! | Super Meat Boy and Critter Crunch courtesy of PSN+ . Also bought the DLC pack for Burnout Paradise so played that a little, haven't got into it properly yet though. EDIT: Just Platinumed Fallout 3 after 93 hours with my current character . So I'd say probably around 150 hours in total. What a game. And Broken Steel glitched very little when I played it today . Kinda sad and happy to be pretty much finished with the game...EDIT 2: Now have 100% of the Fallout 3 trophies. Just have a few of the Broken Steel side-quests to finish up and then I'm done. | LBP2 Beta Ys The Oath of Felgana (PSP).. a lot of fun .Prince of Persia HD Remakes. A bit disappointing to be honest. The menus have just been stretched to suit widescreen. There are some nice textures but poor textures turn up pretty often and always seem like they really shouldn't have been overlooked. For example the platforming squares that you stab your dagger into in POP3 haven't been updated from the originals. Also the sound in POP1 seems quite poor at times, the sound of the scarabs is really grating on the ears. Overall, disappointed and IMO it doesn't do the original games any favours by re-releasing them in this lazy way. Way too many oversights to be forgiven. The only positive I have is that as far as I can tell, the most work has gone into Warrior Within. I guess it's a good thing that it is my favourite game in the trilogy .Also playing the AC2 DLC and Prince of Persia 2008 DLC. | Need for Speed Hot Pursuit... it is sensational! Seriously if you like arcade racers, BUY THIS GAME!!! It is so much fun, very rewarding and incredibly stylish! The presentation is through the roof, one of the best games I have ever played in terms of presentation (ie. menus etc, how the game is presented outside of the gameplay graphics). The levelling up, the game modes... I really can't say enough about it. It is outstanding! Have a lot of games to play at the moment but NFS is taking all of my gaming time. Will be getting into AC Brotherhood, Alan Wake, Heavy Rain, Sly Collection and Castlevania over Christmas... wow... | AC Brotherhood. Really enjoying it and the multiplayer is great! Also started Alan Wake, only finished the first chapter, it's pretty cool though. Liking the story so far and really like the enemies and light vs darkness. Brother got me Move for Christmas. It seems cool enough though not all that impressive. Table Tennis is cool though. Haven't bought any games for it yet except for Heavy Rain (but I'm probably going to play that with the dualshock anyway). Gonna get the Dead Space 2 limited editon to play Extraction, it seems really cool. Still other than that and some cool tech demos, I've yet to be wowed. I found tumble really weird and unwieldy. It really does feel like your playing a HD Wii. Overall I'd say I prefer Kinect (my friend has it and dance central is awesome!). Played some Pan-man CE Dx. Very fun! Love what they've done with the game! Also tried the DC Universe beta and liked what I saw though I doubt I'll actually buy it. Seems cool though! Got to level 20 in the Racer side of NFS. Stopped playing for now but I'm sure I'll get back into the Cop side soon. Have a lot of games to get into over the next few weeks before college starts up again. Heavy Rain, Yakuza 3, Alan Wake, AC Brotherhood, Splinter Cell Conviction, Castlevania... yeah... a lot to play .EDIT: Started playing the Sly Cooper Trilogy... it's fantastic! I missed these games first time around. Really fun game (and quite challenging at times) with superb animation and a fantastic graphical update. Definitely worth the purchase. So much better than the Prince of Persia HD collection, every aspect of the game has been updated and it looks and plays excellently. | Finishing off Brotherhood, just getting the last few single player achievements before getting properly into multiplayer. Great game and really good ending. Played some more Sly Trilogy, really is fantastic... the initial high impression due to exceeded expectations has worn off slightly but it's still a highly enjoyable and (strangely enough) pretty game. One thing I can say about it is that it has character in every area... even the small things such as pipes being all bent instead of straight, it really adds to the game. Has some clever game mechanics and a focus on platforming and stealth which are two of my favourite gameplay types. Lots of collecting too, but nothing too wearisome . The story is enjoyable with good voice acting and fun characters. Highly recommended.Bought Morrowind (Xbox) to play on the 360. Even without the mods to make it pretty I much prefer playing it on a console rather than the PC. A few control areas have been streamlined to suit a gamepad and IMO it controls much better than the PC counterpart. Also downloaded and finished LIMBO. It's a really good game but not worth $15. I got it for about 8 euro and to be honest I feel it's just about worth that. There are some clever puzzles in it, the atmosphere is really good and the animations are excellent (remind me of ICO). On the disappointing side, I found the ending to be a bit... stupid. No explanation or context whatsoever... I get the impression that the ending is meant to mean something or move me (even a little) but it really doesn't... at all. I can't go into any more detail without spoiling anything. Anyway, overall I enjoyed the game but I doubt I'll play through it again any time soon. | Sly Trilogy all the way . Just platinumed Sly 1, haven't started the speed-runs yet, I tried one and it seemed tough. Ill see tomorrow whether I want to move on to Sly 2 or stick with 1 and finish it 100%. Had an absolute blast with the game, just an all-round excellent platformer. The camera is annoying at times though, it's not something I notice much in games but the game is a bit heavy handed with directing the camera meaning that it can go weird if you try to move it while it framing the shot in a certain way. A few other little annoyances here and there, mostly from being too used to games being very kind to gamers these days... like if you die against a boss in its third stage you get sent back to the start of the first stage. Oh and the voice acting is overall good enough, but Carmelita's voice actor doesn't do a good job IMO. Other than that though it's excellent. Overall I'd say probably... 8-8.5/10. Well worth playing for anyone who likes platformers, lots of mini-games (driving, shooting... chicken killing and bomb-rooster avoiding... heehee) and a likeable cast with good humour. Valkyria Chronicles 2 on the PSP has pretty much taken over my gaming life. I missed the first installment on the PS3 because it was released a month after the first LBP which caused me to ignore every other game for 4 months straight lol. The game is so good that I am now searching for a copy of Valkyria Chronicles although with LBP2 on the horizon I will probably put that on hold. I downloaded Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light last week and played about half-way through. Great game, lots of clever puzzle solving, highly polished, co-op multiplayer, lots of replay value. If the plan was to revive Lara Croft then the game succeeds. The first 3 Tomb Raider games on the PS1 still rank among my favorites. I got the original Tomb Raider for Christmas and playing it on Christmas Eve was one of the most magical feelings I have ever had in gaming Was playing Resonance of Fate, need to finish it before LBP2 drops (if I can tear myself away from Valkyria Chronicles 2 lol). Deep, original, stylish RPG that we have come to expect from tri-ACE.
