Was just lazy. Now I made v0.06 with auto-mounting into a main menu. The menu is a really simple version of the MM2 main menu:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8Ao63nmzuE

EDIT: I should probably make a Mega Sackbot with no helmet on just for the menu.

Nice level linque I played it today, was really cool.

BTW anyone that looks at my youtube channel, that Bunny metal that says "OLD" is... old Please look at the new one that corrected the tempo and a few notes. Again it was meant as a theme to be played at a short point in my creator spotlight but it never made the final cut. I just keep getting feedback on the old one and not the correct one lol.

Here's some of my latest and greatest Music Sequencer songs

Hey comish, really liked both songs. Some quick feedback: I listened to both with my headphones on, and they could really use a healthy dose of the panning controls. I had to run a stereo speaker test just to make sure. This is especially true of some of the "effects" sounds.

Also, at times it seemed like the tracks were set on repeat for just a hair too long. Try varying an arpeggio here or there, mix up the beats, riff on a melody. I think these songs could be insane with a couple more hours of tweaking. That's not to say they weren't great already. Keep up the good work!

I just did a search for the music from that game and it's pretty epic. The guys who composed that stuff came out of the demo scene in the 90s, thus the modplayer in-game. Not sure why game companies never switched to this format (other than it was technically very difficult to compose with )

With today's processors and high quality samples you can achieve CD-quality sound in about 10% of the space, and because it's sequenced, line that up with events in the game quite easily.

Anyways, when you guys post music vids up in here I eat 'em up, so you composers keep composin' (and I'll pretend like I can keep up.)

In the process of trying one(barbarian boss theme) but with no musical background it is a challenge.

Yeah, see, I usually make music on my computer with headphones, but this time I was using my TV speakers to make the songs. That's why they don't sound very "polished" on headphones. The songs sounded fine on my TV speakers, but when I listen on headphones, it sounds completely off. This is why I didn't make Techno Panic an MP3 like Gardens. I thought Gardens didn't sound TOO bad, but Techno Panic's bass was dreadful!

And both of those songs were made in a generally short amount of time (a few hours), so you're probably right about the repetition and lack of melodic variety. TG was almost finished the level and I didn't want to hinder him from publishing it, so I had to put something together in good time.

Still...I may go back and tweak them...maybe just make a headphones version or something.

Well to be honest... it does strike a very very close resemblance to his forum Sig,
but sometimes things look alike so who's to say for sure? best if everyone drops it
as there's no real way of knowing =P *mew

If the colors of his level were different, you wouldn't be saying this. Coincidence, it's a game and no ideas are copyrighted. So yeah, he didn't directly take it from anyone.

A little more faith in the members around would be nice. I for one, think the level looks good.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T06OToVOsbk

Woah...
i would have said it was just a Coincidence with how general hallowing/Goth/etc
Art styles being mixed together in a same way can look....
but the boat at the end sold me its not a Coincidence... (>_>) *mew

@piggabling i think i said already there was no real way of knowing for 100% sure
if its a coincidence or not and be best to leave it be :/
And saying it's a game and no ideas are copyrighted is not true,
its fine for people to base ideas off of one another as long its not going to far,
but even tho in this case we can't say anything for sure,

But in other cases if someone copys another's work for real,
its stealing plan and simple, there are no excuses at that point,
even in a game, Are ideas are just that, Are ideas and no one else has rights to them. *mew

Y'know, it's a little sad that I have to be made to feel like this is some sort of guilty confession, and that the video that I used as the basis of my level has been posted here like some sort of trump card, or the killer piece of evidence that leads to someone being condemned to death at the end of a witch hunt.

Let's just establish one thing quicky - I loathe it when people copy me, or anyone else. Of course I do. I've objected to it in the past on this forum. However, I've always been up front about the fact that I use images from other sources, and that not all of my art work is original. The aim for this Hallowe'en video was to render my interpretation of the video you posted through the medium of LBP2. If you watched both level and video side by side, you would find that they are not exactly the same. Yes, there are elements that I've worked hard to give a perfect resemblance to the content of the video, but does that really mean that, as you're trying to insinuate, my work is tainted in some way?

Let's not forget one other thing: I referenced the artist whose images I used, as well as the composer of the music I used. If it was my intention to copy them, then surely I wouldn't have given any indication of where I found my inspiration? I'd be very interested to see what people's take is on oLMCo's recent video "The Piano", which follows the events of the aniboom animation he chose as his inspiration very closely. Did he copy it? In my opinion, no, but I do worry that some of you would write it off despite the level of skill and artistry that has been poured into it.

At the end of the day, think of things like this: If Chalkboy's level was a direct copy of jumpbutton's then yes, he would deserve to be reprimanded or ridiculed. However, if it looks similar and uses similar elements, then if he did attempt to emulate the style, doesn't that fall under the umbrella of the old adage "imitation is the highest form of flattery"? The answer for those of you who are struggling is "yes", because we could apply reverse logic to the chalk animations that were often seen on television during the 80s. The same logic applies to my level, oLMCo's, all of those levels out there that have the name of a videogame in their title, and music levels in general, in fact. And if anyone's wondering why you're getting this lengthy response, it's because I spent a good number of hours working extremely hard to make my level look the way it did, and to make my style as similar to the video as possible, and it's throwaway comments like this that do make you wonder if it's worth it...

The only way I would have a problem with IceMaiden's level is if she didn't give credit to whatever the level was interpreting. There is no such thing as an original idea, we all are inspired by something. To downright copy something and take credit for it is wrong, but to give an interpretation of it and acknowledge the original creator is fine, as well as adding unique specifications to general ideas. It's all based on how much you made it your own, and if you didn't, well...than it's somebody else's, and taking the credit would be stealing, and no one likes that...

Isn't that right Garry the Game Sharing Grizzly Bear? Eh?

Comish, I really love your gardens tune, it's really mellow and I like how you layered up your instruments and brought elements in. I don't think that held chord at the end would be conducive to it looping properly though.

Maybe that was never your intention.

At any rate, heres some tunes I've put together, lovingly recorded by our own Cog ^^.

I know ptwob does, he did for his vr tank level anyways.

It doesn't always fit with the theme of the music, that's the problem, and you can't have them apart from at the start of a 4 bar segment. It's a bit of a shame, if you could rhythmically place them it'd be legendary.

@IceMaiden

I didn't mean to offend anyone. In fact, I wasn't even trying to point fingers or anything. I just thought it was kinda funny because I saw the video for the first time only hours before I saw the vid of your level. (And, considering the fact I was unlucky enough not to get in the beta, I had no idea you credited the video's creator).

Sorry.

that's the biggest disappointment so far IMO. now if EVERYONE in the Beta asked MM very nicely to allow sound effects to be used in the same way as every other instrument, then perhaps it'll end up being included come January. i'd love to hear some machine based trance tracks.

Another two from me. (I know the piano has already been up'ed several times already, but I just had to, as it is really well done. Though, I must say, I was a bit sad at the fact that it wasn't actually original. That's what I've been looking for. A beautiful, original piece of art someone made in LBP2. Not that I have anything against stuff that was based on other things, as those are just as lovely. It's just that I love to see how people are using LBP2 to bring something of theirs to life.)

Another LBP level RUINED by the ********** stupid camera pan it does at the end. It should cut or fade to the scoreboard. We should have options. It shouldn't necessarily zoom in to the player either. Very good short though.

Jump, that level looks pretty wicked but that balloon movement looks too unnatural.

Maybe think about using a direction splitter from the left analogue stick and having 2 slightly tilted gyroscopes that activate when you move.

Well, he could've used the game ender switch that brings the player right back to the menu screen rather than finishing the level.

Great job Jump. I do have to agree with the Asbestos it looks a bit weird. It just doesn't feel as realistic like in LBP1 so maybe have the ballloon tilt some, not fully sure though. I love how the balloon pops when hitting a spike though. 2010-11-02 21:55:00

'Always' by erasure

Very good donkey show. Really looking forward to getting my hands on the music sequencer in LBP2 - I can already imagine DLC of new sound effects, instruments for it...

Great videos everyone!

I made one of my little test level ( first trial with the control seat and movers).
Really simple, with no gameplay, but I thought I share it here. (Sorry, bad quality)

How did you get the camera to turn like that??? I've been trying to do that!!! But everything I tried didn't work X( The camera turns sideways when it's not supposed to, the angle of the camera changes for some reason...it is driving me crazy!!!!

@Amigps: Each fighter jet has a Game Camera on it with a zone set to be just large enough to cover the Controlinator in the pilot's seat (though because of a bug in play mode I had to extend it a bit larger). The "Local Space" option has to be set to Yes (this lets the viewpoint rotate with the jet) and "Require All Players" has to be set to No.2010-11-06 22:30:00

Looks fantastic! Great variety of moves and they looked good and responsive. I think the backflips need to be a lot quicker (and maybe the jumping in general a lot quicker up and down).

And that camera pan to the scoreboard needs to go away. Now. PLEASE MM change this it looks awful in EVERY level.

Thanks! As for the jumping, the way down is just gravity but I guess I could always speed it up, I think the slower backflips makes him look cuter but it's pretty easy to make it fast. :O

I agree on the camera pan, I'm not sure why when you use the "End Level" object, it always seems to pan from towards the side of the scoreboard, instead of just focusing on it... there should be an option like with movie camera, where you can select the transition type.

I'd like to say two things, and then request one.

First, I've got to say, there's been some pretty amazing videos here. it just shows a TINY BIT of what can be done in this game. But I think it's the original announcement trailer that really does it all from me.

Second, and this has probably been said before, but this game, with the countless new features, new ideas, new tools, coupled with the brilliant minds of all the creators out there, could honestly change the way games are both made and played. It's a video game based revolution!

Lastly, could someone PLEASE post a video using the voice record feature? i don't know if it's not in the Beta or something, but I'd really like to see that. Thanks!

I agree with everything you've said. LBP2 could really change the way video games are made and how people view them.

As for the voice recording, I'm pretty sure that it is not in the beta. I'm not lucky enough to be in it, but from what I've hear from the vast corners of the webernets, it's not in it.

Here's some new music sequencer songs from me

This one I call Valiant Traveler. I think it's one of my favorites so far.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1T599fTQuzo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1T599fTQuzo

I wanted to make a song for tutorials. Something that sounds informative and "helpful".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cH0taod1VA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cH0taod1VA

Lastly, a song for a friend. She started on something but didn't know what to do with it. She gave to me to mess around with and I got like I always get with all the music I make, obsessed and OCD.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pV3PQrGrK4c

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pV3PQrGrK4c

I also made an extended version of Techno Panic which I'll post on Utube later.

*BTW, my video capture card sucks. It strangely captures audio that's panned on one side rather than balance it and I don't know how to fix.

So I wouldn't bother listening to these songs with headphones, it'll just make you feel like you're def in one ear.

Would really appreciate feedback.

They are all great songs. I enjoyed listening to them. Valiant Traveller, to me, sounds like the opening or ending credits of an adventure game. I think Ra's Tutorial theme is my favorite. Not only does it sound good for tutorials, It could be used for RPG shops as well. Hajar's Song would be good for a science lab or factory level IMO. Keep up the fantastic work.

The first song was great! Just got kind of daft with the same three chords and then the same three chords for the second song aswell.

And the third one was, well, what I would expect from most LBP2 songs xD

But I do think they all would serve their purpose of being background music for a level, which I'm guessing you're going for.

Since a full fledged song for background music would probably smelt your mind when you're trying to consentrate on something else ( Like not dying in the fire! )

Not really repetitive, since you had really nice solo parts ( I'm having a hard time expressing music terms in English ^^ ). It's just that the same three chords were played with the same rhythm in the background. So it felt kind of repetitive, even though.. it.. wasn't? Something like that, yeah.. *facepalm on myself*

Secondly, what I ment was that the third song had 1 to 2 bar "blocks" of tunes. While when you use 4 bars which you did in the first two songs it feels much more organic and less repetitive 8-bit style. But, then again, that might've been what you and your friend was going for ^^

Just don't get me wrong, I think they're awesome. Can't wait to get my hands on that sequencer xD

If you're going for the old school Mode 7 shooter style, couldn't you just rotate a camera to make one of the planes your floor?
Now, I'm not in the beta, so if it this isn't possible I really have no way of knowing.

But, none the less, sweet stuff!

Thanks, and I'm not sure if I get what you're saying, but I might be able to use the movie camera options to give an illusion of a textured floor and ceiling... or at least a textured floor. If only we could put a "UV edit" object tweak for real time I think I'll try the textured floor idea later, could look snazzy if a little weird.2010-11-12 23:29:00

Thanks, tonight I figure I'll go even crazier... I'll increase the resolution and add some rudimentary textures instead of just one solid purple color

Scratch that, I actually did try working in textures but I'm not enough of a masochist or have enough free time to work out texture mapping correctly. So it ends up looking ghetto. (For lack of a better phrase.)

I'll just make it different colors, and we'll use our imaginations to say "Red is break" "dark blue is stone" etc. Or would it look ok if the texturse didn't follow the same perspective the walls do?

At the end of Eve, I was almost expecting an epic boss battle with the mad Queen. You'd better save this level for the real LBP2! or.. at least try to.

I love the music. If its not your song, its still an amazing transcript, and fits the level perfectly.

in a few days (3-5 days) I will hopefully release something I would consider my masterpiece so far.
And since the beta wont be forever.. I am hoping someone can record it for me from begin/end in full HD.

Would anybody be able to help me eternalize this level?

I need lbp2! I asked my uncle to preorder it (yeah, good to have a relative living in US. Here in Turkey, everything is more expensive, if you can find them that is ).

Re-creating jump-pads in LBP(1) has dissapointing results. If you have played my level "blue-roo's creation workshop" you probably know what i mean.

LBP has many possibilities to create new gameplay ideas! With LBP2 there will be even more possibilities!!! I can hardly wait! I will refuse a holiday at summer and stay at home to play LBP2!

Some zombie character classes I made for an upcoming level.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjM3F3guGv4
-Assassin- Increased speed and jump height. No special abilities. Less health.
-Brute- Low speed and jump height. Able to use Grabinators. More health.
-Vominator- Average speed and jump height. Able to spew poisonous bile. Average health.
-Torch- Average speed and and slightly above-average jump height. Able to set self on fire and set pieces of sponge on fire. Average health.
-Electrician- Average speed and and slightly above-average jump height. Able to electrify itself and electrify pieces of metal. Average health.

I just wish there was a "Flee from Tag" option in the Sackbot menu... Bystanders are afraid of zombies, right?

its fine how it is far as speed goes,

Also Looking nice Jump,

im sure with more time i can refine it and get it to wait for you but that would take alot of work i did take the easy way out with this if i did a full level i would take the time

So yeah, finally finished my LBP2 level. It's called the Queen's Kingdom of Goo and it features an easy-to-use powerup selection tool by pressing the d-pad. Go check it out if you're in the beta!

Btw, me and my friend were playing that lvl and we somehow got out of the range of your tracking thinga-ma-bob and it was below us. We couldn't go back down, so we couldn't continue the lvl after that and so had to quit. Could you increase the range maybe? O.o

That's odd... Well, the tracker on the weapon selection hologram itself takes up the entire map, so you should never really lose it.
You could get the flashlight caught on a couple points though, but there's really no way around that. It should've just come back to you later.

Hmm really? O.o We tried pressing the buttons. Everything still activated, but for some reason wasn't near us and so we couldn't get the power ups. It probably got stuck behind something like you said.2010-11-15 04:05:00

while i understand what you are saying,
you do know its a Colossals right?(Big Old Rock monster)
do you think something like would be fast?
its fine how it is far as speed goes,

Also Looking nice Jump,
a little floaty because theres gaps
in the arms, but theres not much you can
do about that, i'd use Holo far gaps my self i think.
*mew

Yes I understand that, but from a gameplay perspective it's just boring. What you are doing is jumping on the colossus and then onto the next platform - which is fine, but you have to wait at least 20 seconds to do so each time. That game "Desert Bus" where you travel to Las Vegas in a bus in real-time -
"you do know its a bus right? (slow heavy vehicle)
do you think something like would be fast?
its fine how it is far as speed goes"
Yet Desert Bus is a deliberate prank game because it's so boring.

I made another Sackro Machines track, called "Sackro Machines: Seaside Circuit". It's pretty much the same as Sackro Machines 2, but you drive Dumper Trucks and the track is on the beach. I can't take vidoes, so screenshots will have to do

I really like the art style in this one. I wonder if the creator is planning to make the "chalk" style a mechanic too, or just keep it as a visual backdrop.

Note: The music gets really messy at times for some reason. Maybe a bug between the SFX and the music and the sackbot rendering :/

I'll post Ra's Theme Song later on.

Feedback is as always appreciated.

Still toying around with old school ray casting techniques... here's a sort of dungeon crawler. Not as robust as my other Wolf 3D like one, but the limitations mean I can bring out more detail in what's there:

I am going to put these techniques on hold as I discovered something juicy that makes it all obsolete, but will make another few videos about my raycaster(s) sometime next week.

Yeah it's really simple.

Basically, I attach a tag to the spawned Ra and put a Tag Sensor inside the controlinator that's controlling Ra. Then I use an XOR gate and hook it up to a timer that is hooked up to the emitter that emits a new Ra. Then I hook a battery and the Tag Sensor to the XOR. So basically, when Ra dies, he stops blocking the XOR from activating the emitter that emits a new Ra.

You could just have an inverted tag sensor or use a not on the tag sensor battery and XOR seems a little redundant.

Yeah lol, but that was because when I first set up the emitters for a new Ra, the emitter was set it ON so a new Ra could instantly spawn when one dies. The XOR was to basically keep the emitter active at all times, and I couldn't do that with the method you suggest.(And I tried it too, still a delay for some reason. I think the battery worked a but better though) I wanted him to spawn so fast you couldn't even notice it. As soon as he died...poof!. I set the emitter to 0.0 but for some reason whenever it was active, it would delay the spawn. Maybe from a bug or glitch but I'm not sure.

I was really going for a contra-style spawn system where he spawns right where he dies. But now because of that bug, a lot of people had to restart the level because the emitter would get blocked by the environment.

The way I have it now still doesn't work...Even with the timer, there's still a delay in the spawn and it gets blocked by the environment sometimes, even with the "spawn points" I set up.

But I'll see if adding more spawn points helps stop blocking the emitter

Try setting the emitter to one shot instead of on, that'll make it spit something out instantly.

Oh and awesome job with the dungeon crawler kind of gameplay Foofles, I haven't seen anything like that so far and it looks awesome. Also, nice sounds effects made I can't wait to see more guys. While I'm here though, I have a Dazzle Capture card and pinnacle studio 14 stuff. I know how to record videos but when I upload them to youtube, they fail to upload. Apparently this is because whenever I record videos, pinnacle turns it into a .VOB file. I need to convert it to an MPEG, AVI or any kind that will allow it to upload to youtube instead of having it fail. Does anyone know how to convert the files of a video recorded2010-11-23 16:51:00

I was home for the weekend and had a quick crack at a racing style game.

I might make something similar in the actual game, so im trying to focus on the feedback and see how I will be able to improve the racing experience on the actual game...

On creation I focused on:

1) Using the new logic to create 'AI' vehicles.
2) Using the in-out mover.
3) Creating a multi and single player competitive racer.

A special thanks to Cog for recording the level

Fantastic stuff as always!

And I've said it before, but I still think you should make it so that passing over a coin with your weapon picks it up.

Also, have you experimented with putting the actual player in a controllinator (and then adding some holo materials around that to spruce it up a little) and using that as your character? That way the top of the character would at least look like the player. Might not end up looking as good, as the sitting sackboy might have his legs sticking out too far and his arms showing, but I think its worth a shot to try. Adds a little bit of personalization to the character you control.

1) Using the new logic to create 'AI' vehicles.

Do the cars always go the same ways around the track or do they switch it up at all?

3) Creating a multi and single player competitive racer.
I couldn't work out from the video how you achieved a different single player score to other people on that scoreboard, it seems you raced around for a bit then got 2k points.
But some others on that scoreboard have more and some have less.

From the video alone (I've not been on the beta for a while, i'm holding off as much as i can ) the action looks a little slow, it might be worth increasing the mover speed across all vehicles to make it a bit more frantic.

Maybe it's different to actually play

Yeah, the cars are on a set track, but some do take different paths on the 1st lap.

The scoring is done on position. There are 5 AI cars and potentially 4 players. Pass the finish line first and you get more points than everyone else

And yeah, I get the impression that most people think it's a bit slow... still its only a test and wouldnt be too hard to fix. Its difficult to know the right balance between difficulty and speed.

Thanks man. With the Sackboy being the actual player, it's already like that in my Craft Earth Crusaders level. That one is meant to be rather personalized versus what's going on in this particular vid. I might change it up, but we'll see. The base itself is pretty unique anyway so if it were to have the player sackboy in there, they'd still have the "armor." I've made it so that you can only see the sackboy's head so it's all good. There's still a lot planned, especially visually, but the whole point of the vid was to show a starting point as to where my next level will head towards.

As for the pickups, they were just holdovers from Craft Earth Crusaders so it's going to be much different when I start actually implementing the enemy logic, such as proper reactions to different attacks and inflicting criticals. I'm also implementing a combo counter as well. I'm going to make it so that you can continue to beat up your enemy even after they deplete their "health" so you can rack up those meaty combos, which of course leads to higher scores, which in turn unlocks more moves, etc. It works really well so far. =)

Foofles.....errr wow X) Whenever I see something in LBP2 I always instantly try to figure out how you would do that logically. (ok maybe not so soon )
(the first time i heard you voice I thought you were eighteen >.>)

It's not that complicated and like I said I'll have a nice full explanation of it. I think the only thing that will amaze people is how simple it all really is!

And what is "I thought you were eighteen" supposed to mean ... I wish I was eighteen again, the things I'd do differently >.>

Amazing job at that level Hallm, you really should work for MM if you could, you're levels have that sort of feel not many other levels have and your latest creation rocks, I love the story to it to. Agreed. Hallm's levels are all brilliant and so beautiful. They remind you of Mm so much.

Also, if anyone is interested, I've just published my first attempt at a shooter. It's nothing special, more of an open-for-play visual of my experimenting. It has a few weapons and features. I'd very much like some feedback.

Just click the link and... you know... add it to your queue. ;]

Oh Foofles

Is it a bit restrictive to have voice recording restricted to only the magic mouth? Can I activate it by sequencer, and do I have useful options like playing the sound globally? Do I have to use a workaround to use it for sound effects like in your level?

You can also record it ontop of a Sackbot action.
So if you set a Sackbot to do a little dance and sing, it will do them together no magic mouth necessary.
I'm pretty sure the sound is global, so you could basically trigger Sackbots to make pre-recorded noises.

It's not so much of an issue though. The thing about pins is that they are self contained within LBP.

The thing about LBP1 is that a lot of trophy whor-ADDICTS, would tell their friends that LBP1 is a great game to get easy trophies from, so you had a load of people coming to the game with only the expectation to get trophies and then trade it in.

I saw it a lot in various forums.

The thing is, it doesn't way if you play the game properly. You have to cheat, and beg, and whine to get the Create trophy. These are things that some people are not above.

I forsee the same thing happening again in LBP2, except people only after the trophies won't bother getting any pins, because they won't add to that silly little PSN level system one iota.

Little kids will still go after pins, definatly, but the majority of pins are easy enough to get, and the create ones hold no worth to non-creators.

Plus the upper cap on the create pins is massive, so good luck trying to cheat your way there.

You mean "good luck trying to get there legitimately" - cheating is generally faster than playing legitimately :/

Anyway I will simply point out that CoD's multiplayer is "self-contained" as you say, but that doesn't stop people boosting and cheating to raise their KDR or get the challenges completed. They don't get trophies for it but they still cheat? Why wouldn't the same happen in LBP2? I for one would probably try to get as many pins as possible... and if that means going into a "free pins" level I may well do that... so the demand is there - all it takes is someone to make a level and it's on the top of the cool pages...

I did specify the Create pins.

The only ones you'd be able to 'cheat' are ones like X number of hours spent in create. All the ones such as Highest Rated and plays are harder to get by cheating.

You could lock the level and send keys only to an h4h group that'll rate them high and play them but, that wouldn't affect the rest of the community.

To both:

I didn't actually make the level, I just made the music. KingACA and others created the level. I guess I can forward the minor grammar quirk

It looks like a movie camera is being activated with transition type "Cross Fade", to get that fade to scoreboard effect.

It uses my ray casting technique that I discuss on my blog

I thought of toying with the layer glitch to improve the 3D illusion but it looks like he beat me to the punch, which makes sense I guess since he's done so many things with emitted glitched layer slices.

But all in all, I guess I'd agree. Even going into the ray casting entirely, it was just to see if it could be done. Unfortunately there are too many limitations that prevent things from being too "fun"...

1) Very low resolution no matter what
2) Depends on impact sensors, too many impact sensors in one place breaks the game
3) Since you can't have too many impact sensors, that lowers the variety that can be displayed in the level - whether its different wall materials or game sprites.
4) Low resolution is hard enough on walls, it's absolute murder on game sprites.
5) Low resolution is not just in terms of screen columns, but also in terms of drawable depths. One way or another you have to manually create the illusion of depth for each distance, meaning a tradeoff that ends up being:
a) Too cramped
b) Too low resolution screen column wise
c) Feeling too blocky when stretching depth resolution out
D) Getting lose in empty space when there is no ray hit.

Since unlike in a raycaster in C we can't scale and position things exactly as we like.

Me three.. I think it amazing at what he has done in the Beta. Some major "This is LBP2!?!??" moments!

However, I am struggling with the point of why. I hate to say it so please forgive me, but it ends up being a somewhat lame version of the game they are trying to be regardless at how amazingly they have pushed the envelope.

I guess mrSC said it best.. "Technically impressive, but doesn't look like much fun"

I'm not. This sort of thing you do just to show it can be done. If it then turns out to be fun to play, too, that's wonderful, but if it doesn't, no loss. Finding out how to create it, that's the real fun.

LBP2 was not built with the intention of re-creating other games- it is built with the intention of providing you with a wide range of tools as to which you can make your OWN games. Re-creating other games is possible, sometimes entirely, but usually only to the extent that is shown here. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the tagline isn't "Play, Copy, Share".

One a positive note however, it is technically impressive, and something I would probably never be able to do. And has history has shown us, the whole "We want to do it to prove that we can" does not always end up with bad, short term, results. Ever heard of this little thing called the Eiffel Tower? Simply build to show that you could construct a building entirely out of steel. And then we have that little event around the 50's and 60's called the Space Race, and the main goal of that was to go to space, and prove that it could be done. So who knows, the tech displayed here may come in use somewhere else.

But in the end, this video is a great example as to why originality will triumph over re-creations in Little Big Planet 2.

That's a very good point. Things like these make you think outside the box, where you might run into interesting new tech that's useful elsewhere.
