My guess is that the whole "can't swim" thing is just so no "early access" to other areas (like Mexico, or Tall Tress and such) is possible. | Here's a little question that would seem odd in another thread: Where are the ducks? I can't find them! I shot one in the great plains I think, they are in that area of West Elizabeth. Just look near water in the south and they have a very distinctive call and silhouette. The one that's bugging me is seagulls, can we kill one? I hear them all the time near water but can't see one anywhere. I'd say the swimming thing has to be to inhibit exploration early on, of course people could swim back then, we always could so long as we wanted to explore. Obviously rapids etc would be dangerous. I think the game should have made it so certain water is treated as poisonous to John if you haven't unlocked the next area, but once you get say Mexico unlocked you can swim around there. | Swimming is like.. basic passtime for anyone who lives near water and has been for thousands of years... My bet is with Silverleon. No, Lime's right too. Like i said, Marston's not the smartest guy, aka, he was illiterate, sure there may have been many people who knew how to swim then, but there were many who didn't either. Unlike today, they didn't have pools everywhere, and swimming wasn't that "needed" or used frequently, and they already had boats, so back then swimming wasn't a "must" skill to know. And even today, you hear of people drownin on small bodies of water, and a lot of people don't know how to swim. Keep in mind as well that he was a farmer/ bandit, 2 things that require minimal to no knowledge of swimming. | Not technically "intellingence" but the fact that he didn't grow up in an environment where he could learn this kind of stuff or anything else for that matter. Remember, he grew up as a bandit, and i don't think bandits take much time to be teaching him a lot of anything, they're not gonna go up to a pond/ lake and teach him how to swim... And like Talbot said, its a video game...it doesn't have to be 100% realistic (which would be EXTREMELY more boring that way) or would you rather he died of a single bulletwound o the chest area, or that he could be paralized, or that he could break a bone and you'd have to play the "required time" incapacitated? | Worst for me was when I accidentally stepped too close to a cliff after evading the fuzz. I slipped down to the river's edge, water to my left, cliff to my right. Amazingly I was still standing. I walked cautiously along the bank of the river hoping to round the cliff and get somewhere with a slighter slope. About five steps in, Marston slips into the water, submerged. The game then informed me "You are dead." You have got to be kidding. Why is this still a rule with open-world games? GTA made you tip-toe around the lava water and then in the sequels you could swim. Same happened with Assassin's Creed. I mean for god's sake, just start out with a swimming option. It wouldn't be THAT hard to still limit the players to certain areas. Plus you don't get the fun of swimming across the border in this game. I didn't encounter any problems in the few weeks I had the unfinished version installed and the two outfits unlocked as they should. | Weird, I just had a pretty odd glitch the other day. I was in a Staggercoach and went down a steep hill, obviously enough I fell, but when I fell, JAck just stayed in the floor there w/out moving.... He wasn't dead or anything, he was just laying there w/out moving. O_o Was pretty weird. Oh oh, and last night in MP I was checking some stuff, you know, challenges and stuff, in the pause menu. Then suddendly I was dead...I didn't see anyone nearby, and I checked the map and saw someone moving awya from where I was, obviously a hit and run (which I wasn't gonna let go that easly...) Later on, he/she and its posse were in that town all the way on the left right below the border river, clearing the hideout, and I was right on the other side, where I heard them talking (was within sound range it seems) and you know if you're within sound range, you're within sniping range... :kz: So...I just kept sniping them, I was on the other side behind some rocks, so they couldn't see me, and I kept hearing all that "where's he shooting from" and that. It was a pretty fun revenge actually. XD Sniping a Hit'n'runner and ts posse from across the border until they all gave up and left is probably one of my vest revenge runs I've had actually. He's nearly indestructable, and all you'll need is to swing your torch at the right moments (and probably chase the animals). Now... where the ******* is that blasted Chupacabra?! | Well, something frecked up and my data got deleted... :/ Faneffintastic... ._. Not only do I have to re do ALL on story mode, and all the challenges, but I also have to re-level my character online, which was about to reach level 40 before the data was lost... | very weak ending, but I must admit I [spoiler] Well at least you got to see the ending. I never got to see it because when i was breaking The 4th horse of the Apocalypse known as Death, My PS3 Froze during the autosave I had no choice but to reset the system. I had a feeling that my savedata would have become corrupt but when i booted up the game again to see if it had, there were no messages telling me that the save was corrupt or anything and i got a message saying that i obtained the Death horse so i assumed everything was ok. When i called for the horse, my previous horse Famine came to me instead and Death was nowhere to be found. and while riding around, my PS3 spontaneously froze which never happened before the autosave crash. I knew something wasn't right so i reset and tried again and within 5 minutes of play, my PS3 crashed again. I tried yet again and the same thing happened once more. I wish i had because now Undead Nightmare has become an unplayable nightmare. :'( I have not yet checked to see if the main single player mode is affected or not. | I've been playing this from morning to night on Xbox Live since I got XBL for Christmas. Gonna prestige today hopefully, I was gonna prestige my first time yesterday but I ended up going to my grandparents house in the middle of a gang hideout that would have leveled me up to 46. (For those who are wondering, that specific gang hideout is Pike's Basin. Doing it over and over. Dead-eye is your friend with this one, just use it and kill as much guys as you can. Cougars: North of Tall Trees It is best to look near Nekoti Rock for all of the animals, but many cougars have been sighted along the road running from Solomon's Folly to Plainview. I just rode around the top of tall trees / nekoti rock for a while and didn't see any animals for a while, but then ran into ONE cougar. Two more Edit - Whoo! One more instantly spawned. One to go edit 30 minutes later - Got it. haha. I saw him running down the mountain and he fell down a cliff so I gave chase, killing my horse, so I had to take him on on foot. | The undead nightmare is great, I didn't really like the ending though. In the undead nightmare you can get special mounts , there are; two varieties of Undead Horses, The Four Horses of The Appocalypse (War, Death, Pestilence and Famine) as well as a Unicorn. Just standing out in the open listening to the wind and the critters is really cool. Especially great if you fire off a few shotgun shells and the sound will continue down the valley like a train. Even the golden guns are ONLY for single player which I don't think they clarified too well (maybe they did I can't remember it's been so long since I was last on the PSN Store) My friend wasn't so lucky as to have read the fine print like me before he bought the guns. It's still a good thing though that you still have something to work for in multiplayer to show off to your friends.
