Sonic Generations For PS3, 360, PC & 3DS.

I wonder what that level entrance with all the gears around it is. They run straight past it at 1:30
All I can make from it's title is "DeathEgg Robot" So I guess these are actually where you go to fight the bosses.

Thats right, it's been used in a few other previews.

Plus I thought Blaze died in Sonic '06 or something?

I've skipped almost everything after Heroes but I do know that the resolution to the plot of '06 ment that the entire plot never happened and that Blaze has been in several handheld games.

Where's Omega? He's awesome! If they had characters standing outside boss levels, I'd bet Omega would be outside the Death Egg Robot Boss.

He may still have a small cameo, they've managed to fit in references to Mighty, Ray, Bark, Bean and Nack/Fang so there could be something Omega related in the background.

Oddly the "Perfect Chaos" Boss room is after Seaside Hill. And they spell it all one word; "Perfectchaos"

Boss room placement could just be for hub consistancy if the spelling is wrong I'm blaming it being the french version of the game for now.

I hope Mr Time Eater isn't the boss of Planet Wisp. I hope we get a level exclusive to Generations after Planet Wisp.

There's a boss for the modern era that'll have to fit in somewhere so there's a reasonable chance of it being after Planet Wisp.

Oh yeah! I forgot about everything in 06 being undone...
Also, I skipped out Colours because I don't have any of the consoles it was on.

Unless we get an exclusive level, which I'd bet is just all the levels clashed together like in Sonic 06

I am keeping an eye on this game, looks intriguing. Plus it is a platformer, and hey, the lower price point helps. I have about 40 or so credit at gamestop to use up in addition to other money so I might get it. I mean, the demo was fairly fun.2011-10-29 02:35:00

I'm getting it the day it comes out (in the UK) via amazon for ?35.71. Awkward price.

Plus, a BOGUS rumour about the Time Eater:
He is Mighty the Armadillo, who is p*ssed at SEGA for dropping him, so he becomes the Time Eater to remove Sonic's timeline and become the hero himself

I'm having a field day listening to the leaked songs of the game. Planet Wisp Modern being my favorite for now. I feel so spoiled yet it doesn't feel bad at all. After all the game is almost here. I'm debating on getting this game first then R&C All4One later. Decisions, decisions. :32011-10-31 17:04:00

I'm surprised I'm getting this. Feels weird buying a Sonic game. :/

But yeah, I ordered from Gamestop since I had 40 bucks credit earlier, and only got VAlue, so it may not come for like a week still. Ah well, hopefully it's worth it lol.

I actually can't wait till friday.
I have the urge to break out the gamecube and play SA1, SA2b and Sonic Mega Collection - I want to play the classics to see what the fuss is about. I've played the first couple of acts for each before but I didn't have the dedication, or skill.
Friday it is!
I love how it's a game made especially for Sonic fans. All the private jokes such as Ray and Mighty on the "Missing" posters in City Escape... hell, the fact that they put all those awesome levels into the game.
I bet in 20 years we'll be seeing a Sonic Generations 2. I think I spoke about that before, but I bet we will. And then I'll be the retro guy from the second sonic generation complaining about the new, new Sonic. I wonder what they'll call today's "Modern" sonic in 20 years?
Also, blast you Americans and your early release dates D:

Yeah, there's no denying that you're right about that. Still, I wish they had left it alone. Changing it kind of kills the nostalgia.

Just opened it up, so far so good. Playing as Classic in Green Hill made me smile. And here goes Modern...

Modern Sonic stages, not so fun.

I started getting the hang of the modern stages at City Escape, it's just a bit frustrating to play them, and the transitioning between 3D and 2D mid-stage is a tad disorienting. And I'm not even a "Sonic Fan" but Classic is much better in terms of gameplay to me, Modern Sonic is fun once you've memorized the stage well enough not to pit fall or hit an on-coming enemy.

My God... the console port... it's... perfect 0.o Runs smoothly, looks gorgeous, and is actually fun!

I'm so confused... this isn't meant to happen. I'm supposed to be an angry PC gamer that got screwed over again and had to deal with FPS issues and all sorts. But nope! On top of that, it's a Sonic game that's been released in the past 5 years and I'm enjoying it. The world is a crazy place sometimes.
Screenies of 1080p-ness:

May upload a little vid later

EDIT: After some more fiddling the game seems to be capped at 60fps. A little dissapointing as of right now but hopefully a patch will fix that! Also Chemical Plant has a few frame skip issues on the rare occasion. So - not a perfect port but a very good one considering. Hopefully the next ati driver and a patch could fix any issues like this Otherwise I run at a near constant 60 fps.

So I've been enjoying the game and everything, it's all pretty fun! However... That city escape music is the worst in game music I've ever heard. I mean seriously... After 1 minute I had to actually exit the level and change the music (and then forgot to do it for modern sonic so just stuck through it). Decent level, but why did they put such crap in the game, regardless of whether it's part of the game it's taking inspiration from.2011-11-04 15:08:00

Well a lot of people liked the classic city escape music remix. not many cared for the modern remix though. so like everything, it's not that it's bad. it's just depends on who is playing and their opinion, everyone likes different things. i liked the classic remix fairly well myself. *mew2011-11-04 16:35:00

It's just the really awful singing which ruins it. I don't want rubbish attempts at punk-rock or anything of the sort in the background of my sonic game D: Singing in background music should be illegal. There was another song called His World that started out kinda cool, then it went into this abomination of painful singing and I immediately regretted my decision
It is only a minor gripe though as I can choose the songs before going into the level. I'm actually really enjoying the game otherwise so far. I never do the boss until I get all the challenges in the 3 zones before it done too. Loved the Sonic 2 boss battle throwback, and the fight against metal sonic Shadow didn't give me much of a problem, did it second time.

After seeing this thread, I got the game. It's brilliant! I've unlocked the original game which has a save feature and I also got the unlimited continues. Maybe I'll FINALLY get past labyrinth zone.
I thought i'd prefer the classic sonic levels but the modern sonic ones are just as fun. The challenges are creative and the red rings add some good replay value.
I also like the skills. They're a great addition.
The only thing I think would be good is a classic style of Knuckles.
The classic style is so much better looking imo. His facial expressions are just great!
Haven't beaten the first boss yet as I'm doing challenges and red rings first. I'm sure the rest of the game will be good too. Looking forward to the Shadow, Silver and Metal Sonic challenges.

So some more thoughts on this game. I actually love pretty much every level for both Acts. And all the bosses so far have been great (just got to get all the challenges done before i move on to 3rd then final boss, as thats just how I role).
HOWEVER
Oh my god why did they have to slaughter the last classic sonic level. I mean, it looks awesome, then goes into this great looking base.
THEN YOU HAVE TO USE A TERRIBLE POWER UP FOR THE REST OF THE LEVEL D:
It destroys momentum and is generally just UNFUN. UNENJOYMENTFUL. UNGOOD. Terrible level, I was gutted. But the modern sonic version of that level is great, the simple power-up works so much better.
Other than that though everything rocks.
HOWEVER
The method of collecting the emeralds in this game sucks. SERIOUSLY SUCKS. There are 3 decent ones (Shadow, Silver, Robot Sonic) but the rest are awful. Just doing it for the boss battle? Heck, one you get in a cutscene where he just RUNS OVER TO IT. WHAT. RUBBISH I SAY. Bring back Special Stages. An updated version of the Sonic 2 ones would be immense for example.

I'll say this first; the game was too short. But I can understand this as there are only 9 games in the main series. They could have bulked it out with more bosses or two levels per game.
I will not rest until I get an S in every act and complete every challenge.
All you have to do to get an S rank in Modern Green Hill is to change the music to Sonic Boom, seriously.
I need to unlock some decent music too, so far I've unlocked the music that is basically scraping the poo-barrel, like Kingdom Valley. At least I have Angel Island and Emerald Hill.
I actually hate the music for modern City Escape, it's just rubbish really. I hope I can unlock the classic version so I can change the modern version to the classic track.
Shadow is quite hard, because he has infinite boost.
Silver was fun, but it sucked that he didn't go 'IT'S NO USE!'
Metal Sonic was fun for a sub-boss, not too challenging
Death Egg robot was easy, but that was expected for a first boss
Perfect Chaos was a massive pushover, that was just wasting his potential
Egg Dragoon was brilliant. It took me about half an hour and a lot of deaths to finally beat him (no hints - played hardcore) like a decent boss should be
Haven't beaten the Time Eater yet. Always run out of rings before I can hit him a second time.
I've completed all Green Hill challenges, just need the red rings.
Got Ss and As on the Dreamcast levels

Twenty minutes.

For twenty minutes I mashed that ******* square button. And for what?

Nothing.

**** this ***** game. Whoever at Sega thinks that THIS is what is able to constitute a final boss, or "fun", or even PLAYABLE, deserves to be fired. This boss is enough to make me wish I hadn't gave them fifty dollars when they so obviously still can't comprehend what makes a GOOD game. >_<

Haha just one boss battle don't ruin a game. or 90% of games i have played would be ruined in my mind. it's the whole package that matters. plus the most fun thing about sonic games is to replay your fave levels ETC. *mew

PS: I rarely enjoy any last boss battle on any game. they almost always suck on every game of any type of game.

Impressive!

I'm holding off on the final boss to get the challenges done. The red rings can wait until later. The hardest challenges are the doppelgangers. But Rouge's Modern Sonic one was the most frustrating. Her ability nearly never worked!

What do you think is the hardest stage? For me it is:
Crisis City - Both Classic and Modern. It's so hard to get a perfect run!

One thing I have found is that the game is VERY generous on the ranks. It is reasonably simple to get an A rank. I took 7 and a half minutes on the Classic stage mentioned in the spoiler. Got an A. ??? What?! I was hoping S rank would be a challenge. Oh well.

Loving the soundtrack to this. Sonic boom, Green Hill, Live and Learn, Open Your Heart, City Escape. But I am disappointed that this is not in the game:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-6YxZ8G0ZU&feature=related

Hoping for some DLC levels. Maybe one of the Sonic Advanced stages.

I agree with the Ranks being too easy. I remember playing Sonic Heroes and being flabbergasted by how difficult the Ranks were to acheive. Somewhere inbetween that and this would of been nice!2011-11-07 23:52:00

I think it's stupid that to get an S-rank all you have to do is not get hurt.
They should have it the proper way; I thought Ss were supposed to be for a perfect run?

Also, final Bosses:
Perfect Chaos; sucked
Final Hazard; sucked
Metal Overlord; haven't played it, can't have an opinion
Solaris; sucked
Dark Gaia; sucked

so the Time Eater falls into this rule as well.
I think the Egg Dragoon was pretty impressive, worthy of a penultimate boss stage.
Did the Egg Dragoon take place in the Sonic Unleashed timeline or not? Because I think Eggman may have noticed if Sonic wasn't a werehog.

Hardest Stage?
Planet Wisp, really long and pretty repetitive

Yeah, I liked the visuals, but the classic section relied on the buzzsaw a lot, and the modern section when you had to climb the tree thingy it got pretty repetitive, but I think that was actually probably because I died a lot and had to keep playing the same bit over and over again.

The modern sonic version is fine, I enjoyed the level. But I hated the classic sonic version due to the awful pink spinny thing. And that voice every time I got it too... eurgh >.>

Also, very dissapointed with how slow super sonic is for Classic Sonic :/ Seriously, it's pretty much the same speed! I couldn't even go up a loop at one point cause i didn't have enough of a run up. This shouldn't be the case with Super Sonic. Though the modern one is good when using the boost.

Got S rank on all stages! The final boss was fine except for a huge lack in rings! I had to restart so many times because of rings!

I haven't tried modern super sonic but classic is disappointing. There is no difference. Though he does look awesome!

Only thing left is red rings and some of the trophy challenges.

Edit: Got all red rings in Planet Wisp act 1 and got homing attack for classic sonic. Very helpful.

In regards to my hatred for the final boss, forget about it. I totally was not mashing the square button instead of holding it down. To think I was is criminal.

Anyway, I have three S rank levels left- both Planet Wisps, and Modern Crisis City. The thing is... I ALREADY ACED CLASSIC WISP. Why it said I jsut got an A and didn't perfect clear well, I guess they just wanted to force me through it again.

Anyway... does anyone know if getting an S rank on the challenge rooms is required for platinum? lol :/

I don't think so, the trophy info says stages, not challenges and stages. Plus I hope not, those doppelgangers are hard to S!

In other news I just got my last classic sonic red ring. Now for modern sonic!

Yohoohohoo~ I made that mistake on Sonic-Unleashed. i had no idea until after i beat the game that you could just hold the button down without mashing it to boost. xD *mew

PS: I still wish they had just made the last boss a simple yet cool 2.5D platformer battle,
instead of... whatever it was.

What a fitting song for this game. And I do believe I hear a little bit of a Sonic Unleashed song at some parts. Forgot what stage though.

If we're finding the awful Sonic R track that fits Generations I choose Living in the City because of all the city based levels.

Just got my last red ring. But I'm still missing the Byway or the Highway trophy
I tried replaying the level, went to where the ring is and it isn't there (Since the game knows I have it). I finished the level incase that'd trigger it but nothing.

AAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry but I'm quite frustrated about this.
Any ideas?

Edit: Restarted a second time, replayed the level and it appeared. WTF?!

So just No damage on the final boss and ranking attack on all stages to go!

Got Platinum! The Final boss with no hits trophy is a pain. The only way to know if you've been hit is to hold boost the whole time. If at any point Sonic (either) stops boosting, you have been hit. But I finally did it!

Ordered the strat guide for this game Basically, I'm going to do what Jedi_1993 did, but sort of cheat at it. If there's anything interesting in it, I'll post it here.2011-11-13 14:49:00

Yeah, I looked up some of the red ring locations online. About 4 of them I think. There's several Youtube videos.

Yeah, but strategy guides are more awesome and they're written more in-depth than what you get online, and you actually get a sense that people care about what they're writing, rather than "Oh, diz red ring iz over here, innit"
I suppose it's just more fun to have a strategy guide, also I don't have to start my laptop up every time I can't do something in-game, I just fllick to the right page.
I have the LBP2 one as well, imagine looking up Prize bubble locations all over the place when they're just all neatly compressed into one page in a book?

Anyway, here's some pictures:

Just a random page, this one was a bit cut off by my scanner as it was inside the book.
