The Azure Palace (interviewed by Veronica Belmont on Qore!)
Archive: 392 posts
Ah, the Azure Palace. I played it a couple weeks ago, and it was that balance of being the most well-made level in the game and rediculously frustrating that led me to spend my entire morning on it. Time and again, my key got crushed and I screamed in anger. When I finally got to the key to the altar it was a magical moment... but then there was a boss fight and I didn't know what to do. The second time I got to the boss I sorta figured it out, but the jetpacks randomely got destroyed and I got stranded. The third time, I knew what to do but my sword got lost and I couldn't find it. The fourth time I beat him! I think it took around 80 tries to complete the level properly. But it was sooo well made... atmosphere and rediculously well crafted boss characters--something I never considered before in LittleBigPlanet. And the underwater concept too, really great idea and well done. | 2008-11-23 17:32:00 Author: Grethiwha Posts: 61 |

They are just trying to keep the brotha man down. Maybe Sony's mad at all the bad rap it got that weekend it was taken down the first time. :hero: | 2008-11-30 00:50:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Man, after the last time you'd think Sony or MM would listen to our suggestions. HELLO SONY, have someone working on the weekends. As of right now, Azure Palace down again.. this is lame. | 2008-11-30 01:27:00 Author: docpac Posts: 601 |
I guess that lends some credibility to the theory at least. Sony needs to staff people 7 days a week to prevent this kind of problem. | 2008-11-30 03:59:00 Author: Unknown User |
This is definitely going to bring my review score down when I get to the review. | 2008-11-30 04:42:00 Author: Unknown User |
I'm rather whatever about the situation atm, but it sure as heck isn't making me want to finish my other level I'm working on right now. | 2008-11-30 05:28:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |

I'm rather whatever about the situation atm, but it sure as heck isn't making me want to finish my other level I'm working on right now. I wonder why it's your level. Some of the other big icon levels were still up. It's like they're focusing on the Azure Palace and nothing else. I'm likely wrong but mang.. .twice? | 2008-11-30 08:23:00 Author: docpac Posts: 601 |
I don't know if they hired trained monkeys for the mod team, or they just have a poorly designed mod system. | 2008-11-30 09:26:00 Author: DarkDedede Posts: 672 |
Hey peeps, small question about it as i'm stuck :/ I'm currently stuck at the part where this guy says "use the key to..blah blah blah". And there are eggs next to him. what am I supposed to do? | 2008-11-30 11:13:00 Author: oldage Posts: 2824 |

Hey peeps, small question about it as i'm stuck :/ I'm currently stuck at the part where this guy says "use the key to..blah blah blah". And there are eggs next to him. what am I supposed to do? Did you not pop the key into the little key holder in front of him? Wait, it's still up? I thought it was taken down...? O_o That's a good question actually. I'm at work so I couldn't check in the first place. | 2008-11-30 15:57:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Question: What did it get taken down for? Specifically. | 2008-11-30 16:00:00 Author: Unknown User |
Question: What did it get taken down for? Specifically. Ask Sony. They haven't told me anything about the last time it was taken down so I don't expect them to tell me about it this time. Like I said, I haven't even republished it since so there really shouldn't be a reason why it was sent for moderation in the first place. It's all inappropriate griefing from here on out. | 2008-11-30 16:08:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
I think that "The Azure Palace" is one of the best levels i have ever played on LittleBigPlanet. Too bad that they keep taking it down. | 2008-11-30 16:27:00 Author: Zorez Posts: 83 |

I wanted to try out what you said donkey show, but it's taken down again >.< Any ideas on when it will be back? Who knows, but I finally got a response from them. From: Sam_Protagonist Add Sam_Protagonist to Friends|Ignore Sam_Protagonist Date: 12-01-2008 05:59 AM Hi David Your level did not need to be republished as it was unblocked after the last time it was moderated. I've raised this as an issue already, and should get a response quickly. Sam Better than nothing I suppose. | 2008-12-01 14:19:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Who knows, but I finally got a response from them. Better than nothing I suppose. Wait, are they actually removing it for nothing?>.< | 2008-12-01 14:37:00 Author: oldage Posts: 2824 |
Wait, are they actually removing it for nothing?>.< LOL, no. It seems as if the level gets griefed, then it goes down for moderation. Then it goes back up after nothing is found wrong. Considering this is the second time it's been brought down and I have not republished it since, there was no legitimate reason it should have come down a second time. I also got another reply in response to asking if I can know exactly why it was griefed. Hi David I'd like to be able to give that information out, but at present due to the way that moderation works it is not possible to do so. We know where all the issues are with the system and it is being resolved, hopefully with more news very soon. Sam No dice, but at least they responded this time. Can't complain about that. | 2008-12-01 14:46:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Glad to see they're finally responding. That's one small step for MM, one giant leap for Sackboy I suppose we have no choice but to endure the current moderation system until they fix it. Still, it would be nice if they could just turn the shoddy thing off until then | 2008-12-01 15:15:00 Author: Gilgamesh Posts: 2536 |

wait how is the azure palace down. what movie/game does it refer to? It didn't get taken down by the 'mods' it got taken down because it got Griefed. Some losers got jealous of his awesome level and decided to be jerks and Grief it, so that it would get immediately taken down. | 2008-12-02 02:17:00 Author: Unknown User |

Haha, The Azure Palace shows up twice in the new "Life in LBP 4" video on PSN, although they never show the underwater parts. More of a reason to get it out of moderation yeah? xD | 2008-12-06 03:34:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |

Yup, still down. That's cuze The Azure Palace sound to much Epic. YOu should have named it "ramp" or "The world fastest sackboy". | 2008-12-06 04:07:00 Author: Unknown User |
That is so cool that you got a message from the Official PSM saying they want to feature you. Thats when you know your level has made an impact I hope that your level can get brought back soon so that i can play it again. | 2008-12-06 13:42:00 Author: chiropractor345 Posts: 161 |
Good Job, with the PSM and all. So... What I understand from what I'm reading, some jealous Idiot decided to grief Azure Palace because it's a hundred times better than anything they could ever make. I'll admit, Ill never make anything like The Azure Palace, but STILL! Thats no reason to Grief it! Donkey Show, you should have a Topic where you answer questions about how you made the Level, or give tips to help others make levels that get Griefed for being too good! | 2008-12-06 18:53:00 Author: DRT99 Posts: 431 |
Is it back up yet? | 2008-12-07 02:43:00 Author: Thee-Flash Posts: 3154 |
Correct me if I am wrong but the pirhana's swimming in the background are pre-made objects earned in Story mode. Very minor point but if everything is claimed to be from scratch then everything should be made from scratch. This does not detract from your level in any way though. Well, if you want to be that picky then yeah... not everything is from scratch. But considering it was such a minor background element and placed in at such an early stage that I really just discount it. Thanks for the comments though and every one else. It's what keeps me wanting to continue to create levels for the community even in the light of all this moderation madness. Obviously 5 stars and hearted. I tired out the mech thing your working on and it is good but still not Azure Palace quality. I look forward to the final build though. Considering it's more traditional in terms of platforming in the first half, then yeah I completely agree. If anything, I just want to make a solid level right now with no issues whatsoever. But you're right, wait until later on. The experimental stuff is coming and the first stage is really only 10% of what is coming in the future. There's too much to fit all on one stage. And no it's still not up yet. LOL, there's nothing wrong with asking here. I just like making things that are genuinely different from the rest of the what is out there. Don't get me wrong though. I think I've been really lucky with the way the Azure Palace has been received, both good and bad. | 2008-12-07 04:53:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
I think Azure Palace is a very solid level, but I don't understand why everyone thinks it is the best level out there. For me, I don't think it would make top ten. However, that might just be because I like old school platforming. I love jumping around and I think jet-packs are just kind of lame. Anyways, this moderations crap is ridiculous. I hope they get it sorted out soon. | 2008-12-07 08:33:00 Author: Walter-Kovacs Posts: 542 |
...there are definitely other levels out there (again, some from these very forums) that deserve the same recognition but will probably never get it. So yes I agree with you but at the same time we should appalud the work of art known as the Azure Palace. Good response, I can agree with that. | 2008-12-07 09:27:00 Author: Walter-Kovacs Posts: 542 |
Heya Gevurah, Great job on the level, using Jet packs for underwater ? That was the most original idea... when i played the level i thought you worked for MM, i'm sure you get that a lot. Sorry your level keeps Catchin' da Grief, thats retarded because your level was featured in the Video (TWICE) that advertises LBP online play as a level that you can play. Jokes on SCEA for false advertisement. that video was just released Thurs too... Mods Should be in charge of playing the levels and making them un greifable... if we REALLY wanted to protest we would GRIEF Spam the MM welcome Level, everyone greif it once, and have 1000's of players greifing it... But i prefer to be constructive and not destructive, so thats something i wouldn't participate in... i really dunno - there is no "power to the players" and if we quit playing there's 100,000's of players to take our place, and no one to miss us... as if we never existed... Kudo's to your talent and for all the haters they know what they can do. -Brine EDIT: PS thanks for referring me to this site, gave you credit for it on the REG page. | 2008-12-07 11:08:00 Author: Unknown User |
I think Azure Palace is a very solid level, but I don't understand why everyone thinks it is the best level out there. LOL. Don't worry, I feel the same way too. Considering the level is focused on a gameplay aspect that isn't extremely fleshed out like normal old-school platforming, things tend to get wonky especially since so many things are suspended in the air to achieve that underwater feeling. But hey, I can't complain if people want to think that. :hero: Sorry your level keeps Catchin' da Grief, thats retarded because your level was featured in the Video (TWICE) that advertises LBP online play as a level that you can play. Jokes on SCEA for false advertisement. that video was just released Thurs too... Yeah, I was watching it on Friday and said... "seriously guys?" What can you do when the system is broken? Anyway, thanks again for the comments everyone and you're welcome about the site referral. ^^ | 2008-12-07 13:49:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
I did first find out about this site from the internet reference on this level. I thought that if there were people with this level of design integrity out, then it would be a great idea to connect with them. I forgot to list you as a referring person though. :o But once again, thank you for your high quality levels. | 2008-12-07 14:44:00 Author: Elbee23 Posts: 1280 |
Awesome. I should get some XP for all these referrals. Seriously though, this is a good community here and they're willing to support whatever you do. Welcome aboard and I'm glad you enjoyed The Azure Palace. ^^ | 2008-12-07 15:13:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
While personally I don't think it's the BEST level out there, I must give it credit for being pretty much the ONLY popular good level out there. While there are awesome levels, many made by people here, pretty much no one knows of them. So, at least you made a level that is both popular AND good, instead of those trophy levels and RAMP >_<. Um... yeah. Actually, I never managed to finish this level, suprisingly enough. I guess I'll have to soon, though. | 2008-12-07 15:19:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |
So... it's been down for over a week now? I thought the official word was that within 48 hours a level would be brought back up if nothing was wrong with it (and nothing is wrong with it, the moderators themselves have checked it over once before). I don't think giving griefers the ability to take down an honest level for OVER A WEEK is good business at all. This needs to be brought to MM and Sony's attention... very very loudly grr | 2008-12-07 17:01:00 Author: Gilgamesh Posts: 2536 |
So much for me giving this game anything close to a 10... | 2008-12-07 17:23:00 Author: Unknown User |
This is ridiculous. The fact that good levels like this one are getting taken down is very discouraging. I can't even imagine how much work was put into some of the levels that have been taken down, what a waste. | 2008-12-07 22:59:00 Author: xbriandeadx Posts: 134 |
How does griefing work? Is the level temporarily suspended, or permenantly removed? Honestly, I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with this level, it's fun, well created, and certainly do-able by all means. | 2008-12-07 23:55:00 Author: Shining Aquas Posts: 353 |

You're welcome. ^^ Anyway... Hi David Sorry for the delay in replying. I'm looking into your levels particularly at the moment as I believe there may be something more unusual going on. We're working on a far more transparent means of moderating levels as there clearly isn't enough done to help legitimate creators understand what's happened at the moment. As far as your levels are concerned my overriding suspicion right now is that there's an object used in each of the affected levels that has been flagged as inappropriate (I know that the bloody Sackboy in Azure Palace fell foul of moderation first time around), so if you've reused anything between levels that could be the explanation. Beyond that, I'll keep investigating, but it's not the easiest system to query at the moment. Sam At least I was able to get somewhat of a defined answer to the first time The Azure Palace was sent for moderation. As for all my other levels... the suspicion grows. | 2008-12-08 23:27:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Thanks for keeping us updated. I'm very relieved that we're finally getting more answers on what's going on. I can somewhat accept that they wouldn't like the bloody sackboy (at least it wasn't the small blood spot by the dragon skull). Still, if that really IS the problem, it seems like quite a tempest in a teacup for all the trouble it's causing. It's interesting to note that even someone on the inside seems to have trouble getting answers out of the moderation system. I think we can assume that they know about the problem quite well. | 2008-12-08 23:52:00 Author: Gilgamesh Posts: 2536 |
tempest in a teacup[UNKNOWN SIMILE DETECTED] BTW, you can't have blood? Or just not on a humanoid type creature? | 2008-12-08 23:55:00 Author: Voltiare Posts: 646 |
[UNKNOWN SIMILE DETECTED] BTW, you can't have blood? Or just not on a humanoid type creature? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tempest_in_a_teacup AFAIK, they can't refuse having blood, because the Story Levels themselves have some. I don't know if a level with Evil Dead-esque quantities of blood would pass though, so having as little as possible is probably better. | 2008-12-09 00:13:00 Author: Gilgamesh Posts: 2536 |
Beyond that, I'll keep investigating, but it's not the easiest system to query at the moment. Sam Wow even the developers are having trouble finding what's wrong? Who knew the mod system was so poorly designed. This game just keeps on screaming "rush job," with every passing day. | 2008-12-09 04:07:00 Author: DarkDedede Posts: 672 |
AFAIK, they can't refuse having blood, because the Story Levels themselves have some. Really? Which ones? | 2008-12-09 04:25:00 Author: Unknown User |
Really? Which ones? The volcano level for example. Inside one of the places where you have to pull the switch. It's where the spears are. | 2008-12-09 04:45:00 Author: Unknown User |
I'm sure levels get taken down with a certain number of "Good Grief!" reports. Then they are submitted to the moderators for them to see what's wrong with it. Pretty certain that's how it works. Lazyness on their part, really. | 2008-12-09 05:13:00 Author: aer0blue Posts: 1603 |
I used the grief system for the first time today. The level was called "Sadam Husein's Execution" (could you blame me?). Anyways, I noticed that you only had the option to set preset tags (similar to the ones for rating and searching) for the "reason" for the grief report. I posted "offensive" as my tag. I assume that the mod will have to actually check and see what is offensive about the modded level. It won't be too hard in my case, but the way they designed this mod system is just pathetic and amateurish. I still think that it's unbelievable that they charge $60 for this rush job. These are supposedly experienced professional developers working on this game, yes? | 2008-12-09 06:13:00 Author: DarkDedede Posts: 672 |
These are supposedly experienced professional developers working on this game, yes? Or so they say. However, Sony's the one in charge of moderating. Not Media Molecule. Mm has done just fine, delivering constant DLC and getting the upcoming patches ready. | 2008-12-09 06:32:00 Author: aer0blue Posts: 1603 |
I wouldn't call it a "fine job." I'm sure Sony didn't design the moderation system, and all the other various design oversights that came with the game. Although I will put the blame on Sony for the apparent rush job that this game is right now, and MM is probably spending their time cleaning up the mess they made to make Sony's deadline. | 2008-12-09 08:38:00 Author: DarkDedede Posts: 672 |
Huh, my friend at work just told me he was playing it last night. I guess it's back up. | 2008-12-10 17:15:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
........nope, just tried it. Still dead. According to your profile page, the only level you have up is "Mobile Suit Sackboy" | 2008-12-10 18:37:00 Author: Shining Aquas Posts: 353 |

Although I will put the blame on Sony for the apparent rush job that this game is right now, and MM is probably spending their time cleaning up the mess they made to make Sony's deadline. Media Molecule designed the Good Greif! system (which is surprisingly intuitive for a grief system), but I do not believe they designed the way that data would be sent or handled once it got to it's destination. You can also attribute the "rush job" that LittleBigPlanet seems to be to Sony, as I am sure they patted Mm on the butt more than once to get it out the door. I mean, a year to go from one demo to a full game? That's a lot of work in a short amount of time, and to me it looks like Sony was working to get better games out for this Holiday so they can hold their financial footing until next year. Sadly, LittleBigPlanet was rushed out the door because of this, and we probably won't see a polished product for the next 6 months or so. | 2008-12-13 09:49:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |

So for those of you who still wanted to play it, go for it! =P Good for you. To answer Elbee23s question, my interpretation is that his original is still locked. He republished it with a changed name is all. They asked for it anyway. It looks like its just so people who want to play it can. My bet is that donkeyshow will put his old copy back up (which will still have its hearts and plays) when they unlock it. | 2008-12-15 02:19:00 Author: Hexagohn Posts: 335 |

And here's something to think about... I was just reading the Jan. issue of EGM where Shane interviews the executive producer of LBP Siobhan Reddy. Reddy said that the Azure Palace was one of her favorite levels (to include Escape from Alcatraz, Black, and World of Colour). If that's the case, you know Mm really is out of the loop of the moderation of their own game. | 2008-12-15 02:23:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |

I've said it a hundred times and I'll say it again: those in charge of Moderation? Sony. Oh that's a given. I'm just saying that it's a shame Mm doesn't have more hands in the whole process. For technically promoting levels that are taken down because of faulty moderation, wouldn't you think someone up there would take a faster stance at correcting the issue instead of just updating the news section in the game mentioning we're "doing" something about it... But yeah, if you haven't played it yet, now's your chance! =P | 2008-12-15 04:09:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Exactly. And here's something to think about... I was just reading the Jan. issue of EGM where Shane interviews the executive producer of LBP Siobhan Reddy. Reddy said that the Azure Palace was one of his favorite levels (to include Escape from Alcatraz, Black, and World of Colour). If that's the case, you know Mm really is out of the loop of the moderation of their own game. Yeah, it's weird how little influence they have. Also, Siobhan Reddy is a woman. Just to let you know. | 2008-12-15 04:32:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |
Well I learn something new everyday. xD Thanks for that tip. I'll make sure I don't mess that up again, lol. | 2008-12-15 05:05:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |

Just a quick note - I've been giving this a lot of thought lately, and I think I know the answer to your moderation problems. Here's some suggestions that might prevent your level from getting moderated: 1. Since many people who play the game are fairly young, they may not completely understand the term "Good Grief" (Charlie Brown is probably before their time). This being said, maybe they think it means "This is great stuff". So, if you tone down your quality a little this could prevent this reaction. 2. There are areas of your game that may scare certain parents. When first entering the level, there is a sack boy who's eyes light up. Try adding a smile sticker. This will give the player and their parents a nice warm feeling. 3. The dragon, although cool, can be frightening. However, there are a couple changes you could make in just a few minutes that could rectify this and make the level child friendly: add some purple paint to his head and round out the teeth a little. 4. Change the name. "Azure" is another word for "Blue" - and we see where references to color caused the moderation of "World of Colour". If you like your level the way it is, you could publish a level with the above changes called "Barney's Palace" which contains a key to unlock the real "Azure Palace". Anyone immature enough to hit the "Good Grief" button will also not be able to complete the level, so they will not be able to play "Azure Palace". | 2008-12-16 16:00:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |

That really wouldnt give it the same effect. Thanks for trying to help him though. Come on, this is great stuff! Maybe when Disney comes out with an add-on pack for LBP he could paste "Nemo" stickers on the fish swimming in the background. Haha, CCubbage... I hope you're joking with those ideas... But this level is absolutely incredible. I managed to get round to playing it last night and loved every second of it. 5 star'ed and hearted | 2008-12-16 18:55:00 Author: Enter Sackman Posts: 31 |
This level's still great, even after playing it a bunch of times. It was probably the first user created level that was worth a **** for everyone, and should be honored for managing to stay on top despite not having a rocket powered skateboard in it. | 2008-12-16 19:04:00 Author: Unknown User |
Haha, CCubbage... I hope you're joking with those ideas... But this level is absolutely incredible. I managed to get round to playing it last night and loved every second of it. 5 star'ed and hearted Yes, I was kidding... however, it does have a little truth in it, doesn't it? I put a nice long beginning and a cute cartoonish whale at the beginning of Dante's Temple so that kids would possibly fall asleep before anything interesting happens that they could get scared by.... But yes, Azure Palace is by far my favorite in LittleBigPlanet. I've played it through several times and it is one of the few games that doesn't get old. If it ever get's published again, also check out his "Phantasy" level (I don't remember the exact name). This level was also fantastic. | 2008-12-16 19:10:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |

Such an awesome level. I played it in the beta and it was awesome then. The dragon fight was the most epic thing I've done in LBP. | 2008-12-21 13:35:00 Author: kobrakai15 Posts: 52 |

Donkey Show: Have you heard ANYTHING from Sony or have any plans for republishing LittleBigPhantasy? The reason I ask is I went in and started playing it a few weeks ago, got to the fight with the dragon, didn't finish and had to come back later. I went back in later that night and it was gone, and I haven't seen it since. It game me the incentive to come online and see if I could find out what happened and found this forum. | 2008-12-22 15:15:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |

Yes! It was republished. Stick it to the man Donkey Show. I still don't see it. Gevurah22 only has 2 published levels: Return of Azure Palace and Mobile Suit Armorboy... great stuff, but I was not done with LittleBigPhantasy. Oh well, maybe eventually. | 2008-12-23 03:21:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |

I'd have to remake LittleBigPhantasy because it's bleh. xD But thank you much. ^^ I liked it, but maybe I'm missing something. How about just taking the dragon at the end and making him into a mini-game? (although it would be cool, I am only kidding. No reply necessary...) As long as I am posting this, I think an earlier post I had made about changes that could be made to Azure Palace to prevent it from being moderated was taken seriously... The entire thing was tongue-in-cheek. PLEASE do not take it seriously. It was meant to highlight the issue of players using the "good grief" system inappropriately. | 2008-12-24 13:57:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
I have been playing some of the other levels that are similar to this one(Temple type levels, that and Tomb of Light) and I gotta say, I love the theme. Tried playing this level with my brother and proved to be a bit harder with two people. but either way it was fun | 2008-12-24 19:32:00 Author: Searif Posts: 10 |

Tried playing this level with my brother and proved to be a bit harder with two people. but either way it was fun I agree, I thought it was fun. It was an earlier LBP level. I think authors are getting used to the tools more now and the levels are getting more refined. Of course, by the time you are done spending hours and hours making a level it loses a chunk of it's magic. Can't imagine how Art Garfunkle feels about singing Bridge over Troubled Waters nowadays... I bet you are, man... this game becomes a religious discipline after awhile lol... congratulations on gettin' some shine, man. That's gotta feel awesome. It's like you're LBP's first unsigned hype (a small article in Source magazine that introduces unheard of, independant/underground rappers). | 2009-01-10 01:07:00 Author: Unknown User |

First off I'll like to say I'm gald to have you on my friends list. When I played your level I was like OMG this is amazing. I love it and when I found out they have taking it off of LBP I was like WTF! Why would they do that? You worked so hard on that level and it was really fun to play. So I want to thank you for taking the time to make that level. Its freaking awesome! You rock! | 2009-01-15 10:13:00 Author: sirenrose Posts: 61 |

I've never drawn up a level before either, I just try to think it up as I go along and see what fits it best when i've made it. The problem I found with this is mostly logistical. I also found it was difficult to add secrets etc. | 2009-03-29 07:25:00 Author: dkjestrup Posts: 672 |

Getting a tad off topic (not you Toksyuryel). Great job, David Donkey Show Gevurah22 Dino! I really enjoyed the interview when I saw Qore (I subscribe). i dont know how to beat the boss :S i got my *** handed to me There are glowing parts of the serpent (they have little led's on them) that you have to swing and hit with the sword and they fall off (it helps to use the boost button to swing the sword around). Once you've done all of them, you have to stick the sword in the serpents head. The thing that's interesting about this design is that you can't just sit still to kill the boss - you have to weave up and down to avoid things AND swing at the same time. Creators should take a cue from this - make people feel like they're playing a real game. | 2009-03-30 15:39:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
I ... ahem.... just played this for the first time a few days ago. I feel embarrassed. It was a nice level, but I broke it three times cause for some reason I have awful luck with levels. | 2009-03-30 17:40:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |

It's funny, cause when I started playing... Azure Palace was THE level to play, along with Geosautus' levels and.. you know... Ramp . Time just kept on passing and then it got to be march and i said to myself ... wow. I've never played one of the first popular levels in lbp. lol. | 2009-03-30 17:53:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |

The fact that this level keeps getting brought up is still really wild. But whatever, I'll take it where I can get it. =P Of course when you look back at stuff you've done when the game came out, there's so many ways you can think of streamlining. I usually dismiss going to back to older work or recreations (I was kinda not looking forward to my Contra level even though I jumped on it) but with all the tools and tricks that are out now and will be coming in the near future, I say "why not?" I've already started drawing out the basic concept, which is inherently similar to the original, but a lot of the annoying stuff definitely be cut out and other things will be put into place. It'll be interesting. =) | 2009-03-31 01:51:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Will there be paintinator? I can imagine the visuals will be improved? | 2009-03-31 06:43:00 Author: dkjestrup Posts: 672 |
Yeah! Paintinator! And a rocket car! | 2009-03-31 06:55:00 Author: Fjonan Posts: 359 |
Yeah! Paintinator! And a rocket [b]cheetah! I hope there are more puzzles. Also, I think it would be cool if the chase scene with the dragon was done scrolling vertically (either up or down, preferably up) as a change up, too similar to skulldozer imo. | 2009-03-31 08:32:00 Author: dkjestrup Posts: 672 |
I don't think the paintinator should be in a level like this tbh. But yeah, more puzzles and definitely different setups. | 2009-04-01 08:10:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
I don't think the paintinator should be in a level like this tbh. But yeah, more puzzles and definitely different setups. Also, just my 2 cents, but you should replace the section where you are dodging electric obstacles, it is fairly boring. It was good back then, but imo that sort of gameplay isn't anything new. | 2009-04-01 08:14:00 Author: dkjestrup Posts: 672 |
So after careful consideration and a little testing so to speak... I think I will remake the Azure Palace... but as a separate level with obvious changes (i.e. water) and other neat little tweaks I've written down over the past few months. =) | 2009-08-28 06:38:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |

Thanks man. Judging from what I've tested so far, I have to significantly change the level anyway to accommodate the changes water brings into the mix, so I might as well make it new. | 2009-08-28 08:23:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
