Although they definitely did way (way) better than Microsoft, the approach was pretty much carpet-bombing with games. Reggie even says at the end of the presentation, "hopefully there was SOMETHING here for you to get excited about." So that sort of outlines their strategy. What do gamers like? They liked Goldeneye right? Do a Goldeneye. They want Kid Icarus? Do a Donkey Kong too. And why not, let's do a new kirby. you got your Zelda, you got your Metroid. Who doesn't like Mickey? Let's throw in some mario sports too, why the hell not. etc etc... They just absolutely carpet-bombed with old nintendo franchises. So, as expected, there are a few hits and a few misses. Most of these games look like wiiware material to be honest. no announcement of a Wii HD. Way too many of these games are just capitalizing on nostalgia. Goldeneye? Really? So we can be nostalgic about it? Goldeneye was great, but it does NOT hold up well over time. Kirby's a sidescrolling platformer, the new Donkey Kong is clearly just another Donkey Kong Country - which I love to this day, but by the time I played through the 3rd I felt like it had run its course. Rehashes and nostalgia trips almost across the board here. Zelda made me cringe. I also really don't like the look. They tried to meet halfway between windwaker and twilight princess, and the result is kind of awkward. Not to mention some other awkward things in the presentation (ouch ouch ouch). For all this talk about Zelda being all-new and going in a new direction and heavily departing from the formula, this looked quite humdrum and WAY too similar to the recent games. to be honest, the only thing that got me excited was the 3DS. That seems like it has potential and the kid icarus game looked great, and the developers had some pretty cool things to say about the system. 3d photos is just an awesome feature too... Wish I could get my hands on one of these! I really think the ball's in Sony's court right now. With really strong early buzz about the Move (let's hope the presenters are smart enough to make fun of Nintendo for their Zelda screwup without overdoing it), the Last Guardian, LittleBigPlanet2, and whatever else they have up their sleeve, they really have the chance to blow away the other guys at this year's e3. As far as I'm concerned, they're only up against one thing, and that's the 3DS. "Kinect" is a casual-gaming joke as far as I'm concerned. Some really cool potential for multimedia menu control - minority-report kind of stuff, manipulating the screen with your voice and hands - but the games were just... oh god. I could hardly watch some of them! I'm definitely hyped about Sony's conference. And I have to disagreed with YOU y friend, you do realize this is E3 a place to show ALL of the companie's best upcoming games, and i think its better they did what they did, i mean a comptnay better make games for EVERYONE or else its just dumb to target a single audience, I'm quite sure you'd make a similar rant wether they had done tht or not. It would seem by the entirety of yer post that you're playing favoritism towards SONY and just want them to do best, tho it doesn't rreally matter, its not about who's "got the cake" its not a competition m8, its a place to announce Games, now if you don't like it that Nintendo announced games then i don't see why you're watching E3... On another matter unrelated to that post... You know what the problem was? Microsoft wasted too much time making and promoting Natal/ Kinect (whoever made the neame better get fired btw) that they didn't even care to make any good games for it, which MAY (nnot a sure thing) lead to its downfall, that's the major flaw/ problem of Microsoft/ Kinect, that while Nintendo and sony have already plenty of good playable actua games for their new technologies, Microsoft/ Kinect have none and only have lame little minigames and "other" features no one really cares about, they should've taken more time to prepare Kinect and implement it to more games and stuff, rather than rush it to try and beat SONY/ Nintendo... | Here's an overview of everything from today's presentation on LBP2. So now we have competitive scoring! Awesome. This is obviously in top-down view, I believe the cameras are very advanced. The create-iniator is a hat that emits any object, and has custom controls. So the magic glove is something else. There is a competitive camera mode where every person gets their own camera! They invited people to the MM office, and gave them a day to create a bunch of amazing crap. The story mode will stick to platforming. Advanced AI. Strategy-game demonstration. | Man, I have to admit, I was disappointed almost across the board with a few exceptions. 1. the 3DS really sounds like it could be the real deal. From what developers and people on the floor are saying, it really is incredible. 2. Oh, my dearest Zelda... 3. No really impressive Move killer app? All the amazing tech demos we've seen, and there's really no game so far that's gotten me interested. a move remix of RE5? I played RE5! I'm done with it! SOCOM? I'm not going to buy SOCOM! And I don't think I'm going to get Sorcery either! Grrr... Although I would play through Heavy Rain again with the Move update. But I am very bummed that there weren't any bigger announcements for this thing. Still, I'm excited about the future potential and especially to hear what people on the show floor have to say about the controls. 4. I'm sick and freaking tired of FPS games. I'm not kidding. I thought it was hilarious when Epic announced: "We love sequels too, but there's magic in creating a new IP, something truly original. This... is 'BULLESTORM'. It's an over the top bloody first person shooter." They showed Medal of Honor multiplayer and I couldn't imagine anyone being excited about it. It looks EXACTLY like every other fps on the market. | Nintendo's conference was impressive only if you are a big fan of their franchises and into nostalgia...I'm not. The Donkey Kong game looked fun but not for a full price game. Zelda looked un-playable with the heavy emphasis on motion controls...ugh. Basically there was nothing there that I have to play. The 3DS could be quite cool, it depends on what the graphics upgrade is (beyond the 3d)...certainly not requiring glasses makes it at least interesting. For polish and presentation I thought Sony did a good job...although I'm not very interested in Move and don't plan on getting a 3d tv. I'm also sick of hearing about GT5...just wake me up when I can buy the stupid thing and stop adding features! Very dissappointed that there was nothing about Last Guardian. | Outside of LBP2 Sony really had nothing great to show. In my opinion. I can't wait for Donkey Kong, Retro Studios did much more than a bang-up job with the Metroid Prime games. I think you should wait and see. They have many creative minds working behind their stuff. And don't judge the Zelda based on what they showed, there were 5 million game journalists in there, there had to be a lot of interference. | Here's what bummed me out about the whole Zelda reveal. Up until now we've been lead to believe that this was going to be a major reboot. I really imagined a Zelda that would somehow not even look anything like the previous 4 incarnations. What we ended up with is a game that fits right alongside them. It looks exactly halfway between windwaker and twilight. the only real difference is the sword and shield motion controls are a big step up from Twilight, and certainly the other items have a bit of a motion upgrade. There are rumors that they've done away with the traditional, predictable flow of the game and it's not so much about dungeons and bosses now. But you'd have fooled me with that trailer they showed. But really it just looks like the previous games with yet another coat of paint. This is NOT the reboot I was expecting and hoping for. I really think it needs major new life breathed into it, and a watercolor palette and a bit of motion control just isn't going to cut it, at least not enough to get me really excited about it. Will I buy it? Undoubtedly. But I can't find myself particularly thrilled about it. I was downright crushed by the lack of Last Guardian. | Well, at the end of the show I am not surprised at all, and everything that I was waiting is proven to be good. My highlights are LBP2, Vanquish and Castlevania. A lot of good games, but those 3 are the top for me. Could you imagine trying to play an actual shooter with it? How would you run and crouch and throw grenades? You'd also run into a lot more problems with a hardcore shooter, too, like movements registering as different actions than what you're trying to do, or not registering at all.
