CC11 - Artillery Weapon!

| No-one knows yet, But if you keep an open mind and cover the basics.... Like for example, I'm making a secret entrance to a lab, which will lead to a blank room where I will put my contraption! =D | 2010-05-31 00:08:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |
| Look up @Woflgod and find "Atomic Blast" or "C11 ENTRY" Hmm... I like the aesthetics and everything, But it is just pretty basic with the emitter... Looks like you spent more time on the background than the contraption itself though! | 2010-05-31 10:19:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |
| C'mon everyone! Lets place our bets! I'm guessing that the pharoh's X-bow will win, barring an amazing contraption I didn't see (so I reserve the right to change my opinion at a moments notice! lol) | 2010-05-31 19:38:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |

| it was greatly detailed not too much logic though. Never needed alot of logic, just springs and elastic applying the force to the ammo. The winches only pull it back and release it . Does it need huge amounts of logic to be a contender for the final 4 ? | 2010-06-01 17:26:00 Author: OKINGO Posts: 84 |

| I personally don't care and haven't played any other levels anyway. I'm just entering so that I have something specific to build I normally wouldn't. | 2010-06-02 15:51:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
No one else making any predictions or are you guys ignoring this thread until the finalist announcement video is released? ![]() I made mine!! ![]() And @Syroc that's exactly the same reason I love the contraption challenges!! | 2010-06-02 15:52:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |
No one else making any predictions or are you guys ignoring this thread until the finalist announcement video is released? ![]() No predictions because it's always controversial. Look at the last one ! ( not yours but a lot of the others ). NuclearFish has already admitted the judging has been a complete mess AGAIN this time. Not really surprising as he seems to be the only one judging ( when he feels like it ) thus it's not exactly a broad range of views is it when only 1 person chooses the finalists. | 2010-06-02 16:13:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
Considering that the challenge is spread across all European Playstation forums I doubt it very much that there is only one judge. ![]() | 2010-06-02 16:37:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
Considering that the challenge is spread across all European Playstation forums I doubt it very much that there is only one judge. ![]() Also, if you look at CC10, all of the finalists were different in some way and all had fundamental differences in operation. So even IF nuclearfish was the only judge, (which i'm pretty sure he's not), there will most likely be a pretty good spread of mechanisms at play. | 2010-06-02 18:20:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
| We don't have to keep prodding the little problems otherwise they'll go big and red and sore and something bad'll happen, etc the contraption Challenge will stop. | 2010-06-02 19:12:00 Author: Kern Posts: 5078 |
| Well Asbestos I was just going on what he said himself so try reading it again. Here you go : I'm not sure why it's taking so long, but it was only a couple of days ago I got a a shortlist of about 20-30 levels which I'll need to pick the finalists from. However, I've been a bit busy lately playing MNR (and organising and awesome event for that which should be starting tomorrow), so haven't had much time for LBP. Also this quote of his from post #240; Once again, the judging system was a complete mess. Even worse than last time. We'll definately need to sort something better out for CC12, even if it means I have to play hundreds of entries myself. | 2010-06-02 21:29:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |

| Ahh lol, fair enough, but i'm sure Fish is probably worrying himself trying to be as fair as possible and avoid potential accusations of favouritism, and so i'm sure the finalists will have earnt their spots. | 2010-06-02 22:08:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
| Yeah, either that or he's sat there thinking "Will these guys just SHUT UP!!! Give me chance!!" XD | 2010-06-02 22:09:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |
If he's got time to be sat around watching E-whip him then he should be judging more levels! Lol, i'm pretty sure we're just waiting on the finalist video to get put up on youtube anyhoo, so I think it's out of his hands ![]() | 2010-06-02 22:18:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |

Me and asbestos already guessed the winner ![]() *Pushes strangepom back into cryo chamber* AND DON'T COME BACK WITHOUT THAT FUTURISTIC TECH!! XD I kid, I kid! *Helps out of chamber* Can't wait to see who's there! Oh, and I've almost finished making a secret lab to host one of my CC12 entries when I make one! Not the one I'm gonna do with asbestos though... Can't wait for that either ^^ =D | 2010-06-08 17:09:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |

Anyone want to play a game of guess the winner? I might guess later, I haven't played enough yet to judge! ![]() Well, I've got my guess all ready! I've managed to guess the winner every challenge since CC07, but who knows, I'm going to be wrong sooner or later. Anywho, a bit of background information (or clues if you like) on my seven favourite entries, without revaling what they are (although you can try and guess ). The first 4 are the finalists, the other 3 would have been finalists but couldn't be for various reasons, but will be in the More We Liked vid (along with many other awesome ones).1) Should get award for 'most annoying PSN name to search for'. Only realised today we'd been typing it wrong for weeks! 2) Destroys the target in a way that comes as a complete surprise... (unless you're already seen it of course). 3) Made me lol. 4) Possibly the slowest moving projectile ever. 5) Creator is from the US. Also had an entry in CC10 that was in the More We Liked vid. 6) From the same creator as one of the finalists. A lot of you will be expecting it to have been this one, but for some reason we thought the other entry was better. 7) The creator already knows this was likely to be disqualified. ![]() | 2010-06-08 21:41:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |
| 2,3,4 and 6 fit the description of Asbestos101 !! 2) being his magic bean launcher 3) Well, it made me lol 4) His entry with a complicated name had a very slow moving projectile and 6) he won CC10 -therefore he was in the finalists. The berry launcher was one of my favourites, because it was reusable and fun to use! But I think that creator was in the US... | 2010-06-08 21:46:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |

| Yeah, we've got the finalists video ready and the voting will be starting. In other news, I've just had an awesome idea for CC12. If I can go ahead with it then we may just see some of the most original contraptions yet. ![]() | 2010-06-09 17:34:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |
| Swweeett!!! I just hope my contraption will be "oiriginal" enough to cut it in CC12 ![]() WOAH! On the official thread over at the EU forums, O-K-I-N-G-0 (See the 0 and o mix up problem there??) just said: Having Nuclearfish and Chimpanzee on my scoreboard must be a good sign ? Sounds like he's in there somewhere ![]() | 2010-06-09 17:36:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |
| Sounding good ^^ I wish i'd started doing these at CC09 because I had an awesome idea on the bus coming home today. You know on the Mm temples levels when you pull the rolly blocks and cubes come out very subtly? I'd have made a vehicle that a little box extends upwards into the sky with lots of little interlocking pieces and then flips down and forwards to bridge the gap... GAH!! In all fairness though, the winner of CC09 had a pretty unbeatable entry. EDIT: I always read it as O-K-I-N-G-O with a letter O at the end, rather than the number 0. It's easy to confuse, I think you're on to something there... | 2010-06-09 17:53:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
| I know! The bridge builder is one of my favourite contraptions of all the challenges! (Apart from your CC10 entry of course, asbestos!) EDIT: Woop! I know ^^ EDIT 2: Seems me and asbestos are this thread's chief posters!! =O >.< | 2010-06-09 17:56:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |

| I'd forgotten about that sheep one! When I played it last time around it didn't work properly for me and the cameras malfunctioned, that was the first time I saw the whole thing 0.o was pretty spectacular! Haha, yeah cheers falcon, it took a bit of doing, there is a little bit of a hiccup with the sound when it starts though....at least it's not as bad as half the wheels on my car not turning! ![]() I pretty much expected OKINGO to be there with one or the other of his gorgeous entries, congrats to the other finalists and thanks. | 2010-06-09 19:11:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |

| Yeah, I thought that was just me that hadn't seen the whole sheep thing!! And some hiccups can't be helped! Like that piece of cement that drops down instead of dissolving on the bridge... I had to make a failsafe in which the truck dissolved the remaining pieces when it came close enough! Oh, and I never noticed the wheel glitch you mentioned... Finally, I PREDICTED TWO OF THOSE!! ![]() Good luck to you guys! EDIT: Okisaan, I'm almost certain yours will be in the "More we liked" vid, cos NuclearFish was wanting an Angry Birds level, And you delivered it! Was a really great level, certainly lived up to what I was asking for, only problem was it was a little too glitchy to be a finalist. The other three that'll be in the more we liked that I mentioned are the Berry one by AngusMcKrock, O-K-I-N-G-0's Crossbow, and Asbestos' Bean O Matic. | I'm doing better in the votes than I expected, at the moment its 8 / 3 / 5 / 8 from top to bottom. I say that because every thread talks about how amazing okingo's entry is, and so it deserves! | It looks like the voting has crawled to a halt with all of 39 people having voted. I wonder how much of that is lack of publicising and how much is the voting system... It's the voting system for me. It's very unclear how you actually vote. I'm guessing lots of people think they've voted when they haven't because I notice some are just making a post naming their choice but I don't think that actually counts as a vote. Does it ? It's very confusing. BTW where is the MWL video. I can't find it. I'll be disappointed if I'm not in that because I thought I'd have at least one in the finals to be honest. At least 1 of mine fulfilled the criteria of being an 'Artillery weapon' better than any of the finalists. I really think also that for CC12 NF should just say "there are no rules, make what you want" because it always seems to turn out that way anyway. | 2010-06-11 11:11:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
To vote, simply Kudos the post which contains the level name and author of the entry you would like to win the competition. Just click the icon to submit your vote. It's not that confusing. ![]() In order to vote, you must have been registered as a member of our forum for 2 weeks and viewed our forum 500 times. | It looks like the voting has crawled to a halt with all of 39 people having voted. I wonder how much of that is lack of publicising and how much is the voting system... Probably the voting system. Don't worry though - if all goes to plan, for CC12 there'll be a much MUCH better voting system, which could possibly see hundreds of people voting. We were planning to use it for this challenge but it wasn't ready. It's the voting system for me. It's very unclear how you actually vote. I'm guessing lots of people think they've voted when they haven't because I notice some are just making a post naming their choice but I don't think that actually counts as a vote. Does it ? It's very confusing. No, posting doesn't count. I don't think it's unclear though, I think it's just that, as Syroc says above, it's annoying that most newer members are unable to vote (or even people who have been there for months but haven't viewed the forum enough). BTW where is the MWL video. I can't find it. I'll be disappointed if I'm not in that because I thought I'd have at least one in the finals to be honest. I really think also that for CC12 NF should just say "there are no rules, make what you want" because it always seems to turn out that way anyway. MWL vid isn't done yet. I still don't know all of the levels that'll be in it, I plan to play a few more in a few days. Vid will be out sometime after the voting has ended. ![]() 'Artillery Weapon' is also just the name of the challenge (and the only name we could think of that worked). All of the finalists do what we asked - destroy a target by launching or throwing something at it. As long as it does that, you can make almost whatever you want. A catapult throwing a farting sheep may not be what you might consider a typical artillery weapon, but it gets that job done and is a lot more interesting than many of the military-themed cannons I saw. Anywho - CC12 certainly will be a lot more open than any of the previous challenges. | 2010-06-11 13:14:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |
| Well done to all finalists Personally I'm torn between asbestos and okino.... The sheep entry as funny as it is...(nearly pi55ed myself!!) something, just not, err, it kinda feels like it is missing something, great plot but lacks atmospere. The cement truck. nice sequence of events, but truck does some odd things 1st kinda spoilt it a bit for me. okino's entry has a more polished theme and its environment is overall more visualy appealing. The jetpack at the end is a nice touch. However asbestos101 has the more complex/impressive structure (love the plasma ball effect), would like to have seen the B/W effect to have stayed the duration of the projectile's movement (like time distortion). Well I can see what I'm up against... I feel I rushed my last entry, be assured the next challenge will see something special. | 2010-06-11 14:01:00 Author: Strangepom Posts: 445 |

How do you mean odd things ![]() The only thing I found odd was when a car randomly appears near the end. But I think all the bits before that are good - the first part when the cement truck shoots the cement at the wall to knock it down made me think "Oh, it's going to do the same thing again next time".... how wrong I was! | 2010-06-11 18:06:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |

But I think all the bits before that are good - the first part when the cement truck shoots the cement at the wall to knock it down made me think "Oh, it's going to do the same thing again next time".... how wrong I was!The car appearing was supposed to make it look like a car transporter when it no longer had the cement barrel at the end! I see now that was one of my bad Ideas! Also, I realised only after the deadline, that it was unclear the cement was being fired by a block and piston, rather than being emitted! Ah well... Oh, And NuclearFish, Asbestos101 and I are planning on making a contraption for CC12 together. Would it be okay to label it with both our names if we get into the finalists or MWL video? | 2010-06-11 18:14:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |

| Well I hope CC12 is run a lot better than this one. For an official Sony contest the lack of information in this thread is abysmal. I just found out that OKINGO won but I guess nobody could be bothered to tell us. As for the "More we liked" video, it looks like they couldn't be bothered with that either. | Chimpanzee (http://www.youtube.com/user/ChimpanzeePS3) does a lot of HD recordings on YouTube of littlebigplanet. He's a friend of NuclearFish's who records and edits all the footage for the contraption challenges. There has been a lack of information because NuclearFish has been busy sorting out another competition for MNR (I think) among other things. And most of us thought you'd all check the votes anyway! The MWL vid isn't up yet because NF is on holiday for (about another week or so now, I've lost track) he'll finish looking at ones he likes and send them off to Chimpanzee to record and edit. Finally, CC12 will most likely be better informed than this one if NF, Chimp and any other officials involved aren't too busy! | 2010-07-09 23:16:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |

Who is this "chimp" that Nuclearfish said would be doing it ? He's been conspicuous by his absence. Sorry for not announcing the winner in this thread, I've only just realised myself that I must have forgot. However, this competition is run at the Official Playstation forums (where the winner WAS announced). I've never wanted to force everyone here to post over there if they don't want to, which is why I keep the dicussion going at LBPC and keep updating this thread, as this is a much better community. I don't have to post any information here at all, but I do anyway, and sometimes I will forget to repost everything. Everything is always posted at the OPC first anyway, so it's best to check there regularly. No, as for the MWL video, I left 'this "chimp"' with the list of levels so he could make a start on it whilst I was away. However, apparantly he has a life and so can't spend all of his time recording and editing videos, particularly when he has a lot more videos to do than just the CC. I believe he's recorded most levels but was unable to do some for various reasons, so we'll be sorting that out this week. | 2010-07-12 14:35:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |

| Right people - I need some feedback. Currently we had a plan for CC12, however, whilst I was away I had a different, better idea for what the challenge could be. I've also realised that we've only had 2 challenges in half a year, whereas we had pretty much one a month in 2009. Clearly that's because the contest became much bigger, and we're getting hundreds of competitiors rather than just about 30. I want this event to run much smoother from now on so it can be a lot more regular, so I'm open to any suggestions you may have. And just to make that clear, NOT challenge ideas, but suggestions for how to improve the event itself.Good to have you back NuclearFish! Have fun? I did indeed thanks! | 2010-07-12 22:14:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |
| ...suggestions for how to improve the event itself. 1. Maybe instead of the MVP's playing through all the levels then picking finalists you could give the community one week to vote on finalists (like some of the earlier CC's) 2. Avoid material prizes and the legal issues that come with. 3. Limit to one entry per PSN | 2010-07-13 15:20:00 Author: IStwisted Posts: 428 |
| Limit to three entries per PSN (As in CC11) Ask the community to vote for their 15 favourite contraptions, and then you and maybe other judges work it down to about 5... Perhaps as well as the kudos system on the playstation blog, you can post each contraption in it's own post in a CC thread on this site, and each thanks counts as a vote too (Considering there are over 1000 registered users and LBP fans on this site) aaanddd.... those are all the ideas I have for now... I can see a slight problem with the community picking 15 though, because there may or may not be that many good contraptions abiding by the rules, and also there could be some really good contraptions that the community haven't found or played, and gets left out for that reason... | 2010-07-13 16:03:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |

| I don't like the idea of the community having any vote in who is a finalist. If it's a popularity contest like that, people that put up levels first will have an advantage, little kiddies or just prats that spam people to their levels first with keys will have an advantage, popular people will have an advantage (and so would people in tight nit community cliques). I like the way it's done now, but I think that limiting the entrants down to 1 per person could work cut down the work loads of judges. It would also mean people can't hedge their bets, I know I was doing that a bit in the last one haha ![]() Also, virtual rewards only would be cool, crown or ingame bit of DLC that's easy for Mm to create would be awesome. (and you should definatly suggest giving them retroactively to all previous contest winners lololololol j/k )Yeah, I agree... But not with the 1 entry per player. I know that for both contraption challenges so far, I have had multiple ideas that I wanted to put into practice! And what about the collab project we were talking about doing, asbestos? If we could only enter one each, then one of us wouldn't be able to make something on our own! I still think the 3 entry limit is good. So basically, run it the same as the others, but let there be a voting system on LBPC too - Especially since there is a poll feature you can add to each thread - This would be very useful! And then you can add up the votes on here with the kudos' on the Sony EU blog for the final scores! | 2010-07-13 19:36:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |
| Oops, I shoulda' made my post more clear as well, I don't like the idea of the community at large helping to decide who the finalists are. Maybe 3 is a good number, surely not unlimited though. | 2010-07-13 19:49:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |

Thanks for the feedback so far. ![]() Community judging - we did this for CC07 and 08 and it worked quite well, but there were very entries back then. Now we're getting hundreds, and letting anyone judge won't work because how would we know if you've done it fairly? A lot of people would only play a few levels from their friends or with high ratings and vote for them. A lot of finalists in previous challenges have been some of the more unknown ones. So this can't happen. ![]() Prizes - like the idea of getting a digital prize such as a crown. But there'll probably still be all the legal stuff with that like there is with a physical prize. Ideally we need something that isn't an actual 'prize' but is still good enough to get loads of people entering. For instance, would simply being shown in the finalists video which gets featured on the PlayStation Blog and the LBP website be good enough? Hopefully with no prize we could remove the EU only limit, I haven't liked having to leave awesome entries out of the finalists these last two challenges. Limiting entries - I'll probably keep this at 3, because a lot of the best creators make multiple entries which increases the number of good contraptions, and it's always nice seeing what else the creator has made. LBPC voting - won't happen. Sony want to keep it official and stuff, plus there's no way of knowing if someone votes twice by voting in both places. | 2010-07-13 23:08:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |

| I still like the idea of contacting Media Molecule for a Contraption Challenge themed DLC prize! Any legal problems won't be any worse than it was for the PSP and game... (I can't really think of much else... And having the video privelage won't count much, because you'll be putting all the finalists in a video, which means there won't be one outright winner...) Perhaps having the footage of your contraption shown somewhere in Playstation Home? (Even though I never play that...) Hmmm... Would you be allowed to let international entrants have a chance of winning if you were sending out DLC codes, or is that a situation with SCEE wanting to keep it within the EU for some reason? | 2010-07-14 00:16:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |

| Just found out we're apparantly commited to giving LPB PSP as a prize for the next 3 challenges. Is that like a miniature version of this (http://www.vgboxart.com/boxes/PS3/15124_apb-orig.jpg) ? | Just found out we're apparantly commited to giving LPB PSP as a prize for the next 3 challenges. Any chance North Americans will be eligible to win those? | 2010-07-20 22:27:00 Author: IStwisted Posts: 428 |
| Any chance North Americans will be eligible to win those? Sorry, still no. It's Sony EU arranging it and they only let most of the EU countries win, not even all of them! | 2010-07-20 22:28:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |
shame that its not limited to only people who are signed up to central then the site would either get more members or the competitions would be back to how they used to be, i miss the cc challenges i want a new 1 soon ![]() | 2010-07-21 19:09:00 Author: ghostrider135 Posts: 259 |

Besides, the competition is mainly hosted on the Playstation EU site, not LBPCentral... And there will be another ContraptionChallenge not too long after the "More we liked" video. | 2010-07-21 20:00:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |
| but most of the people who enter now just enter for the prizes like lbp psp and the like id be happy with just a crown or somethin since thats all i really need for my lbp now lol, ah well such is life, and cool thanks 4 the heads up | 2010-07-21 20:14:00 Author: ghostrider135 Posts: 259 |

It doesn't really matter why they're entering, just as long as they take part and provide us with interesting contraptions! | 2010-07-21 20:17:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |

It doesn't really matter why they're entering, just as long as they take part and provide us with interesting contraptions! I'm pretty sure the psp was only for the 10th competition. CC12 13 and 14 will all be just the LBP PSP game. | 2010-07-22 16:28:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
